"Oh yeah, am I still beautiful enough to be on prime time?" Alex asked, remembering his compliment on their first date. She missed the days when she wasn't a total blimp.

He laughed a little, shaking his head. "You're better then prime time, Alex. That hasn't changed." He looked out the window, then back at her. "Are you going to be ok?" He knew it probably wasn't what she wanted to talk about, but he also knew she'd have to face what happened eventually, and he wanted to be there for her when she did.

Alex nodded and shivered a little bit. "I'll be fine as long as that bast-" she stopped herself and nodded, knowing he would get what she meant. "Ken, I have a question, why do you stick around me? Every week, something bad happens to us. Why don't you just leave?" she asked with a puzzled look on her face.

Kenshin nodded, letting what she had said be enough to get the point. He frowned. "Why do I stick around? Because I love you, Alex. You're everything to me, and I told you, nothing in this world will keep me from finding a way to be with you." He leaned over and hugged her, careful not to hurt her.

"Well I sure hope not," Alex said quietly in his ear. She attempted moving, and she put her legs over the side of the hospital bed. She didn't want to try and stand, not yet anyway.

The nurse looked up from across the room and frowned. "Please, try not to move, ma'am. I know it's probably uncomfortable, but we need you to stay about where you were, at least till tomorrow."

Kenshin pulled back, and smiled. "Well, doctors orders." He looked at her, then outside. It was well past noon. "You hungry? I can go grab you something from the cafeteria." He looked at the nurse, who nodded her approval.

Alex rolled her eyes and laid back down. "Yes please, something edible, please." she said with a small smile.

He nodded, kissing her again, and stood up. "Turkey Sandwich sound good, or would you prefer something with ham?" He waited for her answer as the nurse came over and set down a remote for the TV hanging on the wall. "We get basic cable, dear, and the TV's all yours, so you can watch whatever you want, that we get. The button at the side of the bed pages someone, and we'll be in ASAP. Or, just yell like before, and we'll come running." She smiled at Alex, obviously trying to be a little funny, to ease the mood, then turned and left the room.

Alex looked at Kenshin. "Ham please?" she asked, then looked at the nurse. "I'd prefer the button, my voice will go." she joked. "Thank you ma'am." she nodded and flipped on the TV.

The nurse smiled, and nodded, as she left.

Kenshin also nodded to her, kissing her forehead. "Try not to get bored till I return." He smiled at her, then headed out. He returned a few minutes later with a Ham and Cheddar sandwich, a pickle, some red jello, and a soft chocolate chip cookie on a tray. He also got her some Apple Juice, because he wasn't sure she'd want a soda with a stab wound, just to be safe. "Lunch is here."

Alex's head shot over to him like a bullet, the room had become so quiet, he scared her. She smiled and hugged him, then grabbed the tray. "Thanks Ken, I'm starving."

He nodded, and kissed her. "You're welcome, Alex." He sat down next to her, and bit into an apple he'd gotten for himself. "How are you feeling now? Does it still hurt?"

Alex nodded and bit into the pickle. "It still hurts, but only in small bursts of pain, I'm okay." she chewed and swallowed. "How are you?"

He smiled sadly at her. "Happy, that you are ok, and mad at myself I didn't get there sooner." He leaned back, "but glad I got there before it was too late." He looked at the wall, towards the room her dad was in. "And angry as hell at your father. If he didn't have two armed police officers watching his door, I'd just go over there and beat him until he deserves to be in a hospital." He gritted his teeth, trying to calm himself down.

Alex sighed lightly. "Don't get too upset, just think, he'll be in there probably longer than I will," she said. That made her think, her father hated her and Kenshin. "Ken, how are we supposed to pay for that hospital bill? This one, and the one when I have the baby, my father won't pay for them, and my mother would be dead by the time she convinces him to pay for it, that on top of the fact that he's going to jail!" she worried.

Kenshin thought about it. "Well, we could see if, when we get him put away, we could get the court to force him to pay for the hospital bill. My Mother would take are case, I'm sure of it. As for the baby, I'm sure I can cover it." He grimaced. "Though, it's not going to be cheap, and it'll probably be everything I've got saved." He looked at her, then put a hand on the side of her belly, away from the stab wound. "But, he's worth it." He looks at her, with a determined smile, and nodded. "I'll take care of it, Alex, don't worry."

Alex nodded, she would have fought back and found some other way to pay for the hospital bill, but there really was no other way. "I'm sorry I put you through all of this, really, I am." she said quietly.

He shook his head, trying to smile reassuringly at her. "It's not your fault, on any level, so you don't have to be sorry about anything, ok?"

Alex shook her head. "I was the one who suggested going in the hot tub!" she said, frowning a bit.

Kenshin nodded, sitting back. "I don't blame you for that, though. You have nothing to be sorry about." He stood up, and walked over, kissing her passionately for a few seconds before pulling back just slightly. "If I had a choice, I'd do it all again. I'd just make sure I got to you sooner today."

Alex smiled weakly and nodded. "Thanks hun. That means a lot to me. What's the date?" she asked. She wanted to know so she could see how long she had before the baby came.

((It would be 8 months and a day after she got back, and they were in school, and in the beginning of the rp she fell on ice, so I would guess September...ish? I think))

Kenshin looked at his watch, which had a small date feature. "It's the 9th." He looked up. "Still of September. When are you due?"

Alex sighed and rubbed her eyes. "October fourth." she said. She looked at the clock by her bed then over at Kenshin again. "Visiting hours end in 10 minutes, I feel like a jailbird." she said.
