Amelia smiled politely. The smile didn't quite reach her eyes, which, to people who knew her well, was a signal to back off before they got yelled at. "Thanks, but no thanks. I can handle myself just fine." Her tone was a little more snippy than she intended it to be, but at the moment, Amelia was tired of people trying to solve her problems for her. "I'll talk to my brother later, don't worry about it." She gave a warmer smile this time, to let Jeff know that he wasn't on her bad side. Then, as if dismissing him, Amelia looked around her new surroundings. "Where are we?" She asked everyone.
|
Jeff shoved his hands into his pockets. "Well if he bothers you too much I can always stick him," he said mostly as a joke. After Amelia made notice of their surroundings, Jeff pulled out his new gift. "Maybe we should talk to our new boss?" he said as he held up the knife. He then looked to Todd. "You said something about... Zombies?"
Julia shuddered. Oh good gods, did she hate zombies. She wanted to cry. She had seen to many zombie movies and watched Jeff play to many zombie games. "This is going to totally suck. You see those human's getting owned by zombies in all those movies? Yeah thats us guys. So dead." |
Abby looked around at her surroundings. it looked like some sort of grave yard with nothing but empty graves. she shudderd as she felt goose bumps go all up and down her body. she didn't like the idea of zombies trying to eat her brains. that is what they always did in the movies. she started to walk to get closer to the others. she tripped over a root of a nearby tree falling headfirst into a grave. she screamed a high pitched ear peircing scream.
|
Jeff had glanced over just as Abby tripped and fell into the empty grave. "Aw, damnit," he muttered. He quickly trotted over to where Abby fell and looked down at her after she stopped her hysterics. "It's just a hole. Are you alright? Did you hurt your ankle again?" He leaned over and offered her a hand. The grave was dug farely deep, it was going to be kind of hard to pull her out.
Julia sighed and crossed her arms. They didn't need a clutz in this group. Julie hoped against all odds that Abby would be able to some how call forth the lighting again, instead of tripping over her feet or anything else in her path. |
Abby grabbed Jeff's hand when he offered it. It was proving difficult to get her out but after a few minutes of struggle she was out, and covered in dirt. she was so embarressed why couldn't she keep upright? why did she always have to fall down or trip over something? or run into people? she wondered to herself. She didn't know how much help she was going to be if she spent over half of her time on the ground. she looked around at everyone. "I'm ok. shall we continue? we need to find whatever artifact we need from here and be gone."
|
"Let's find some place that is not outside," Jeff suggested. He always enjoyed a good zombie movie or even a game, but he never thought he'd actually have to deal with a real one. Maybe he wouldn't have to? "Once we find someplace then we can contact Rabbit to find out what we need."
"Yeah, lets hope we get it fast before we have a run in with a zombie." Jeff started walking. The graveyard was pretty big. Of in the distance he could see dark colored metal fencing. It was rather medieval looking, as a lot of old cemeteries looked. Once they reached the gate they could see part of the town they were in. It looked rather run down, yet still people seemed to live here. Not seeing an obvious opening to the gate, Jeff hoped the fence. Julia followed with out any trouble. The gate wasn't very hight. Maybe three feet or so. "Maybe we can find a public place. A restaurant or something?" |
Abby walked up to the fence. there was no way she was going to make it over this without falling on her face she thought to herself. but she didn't really want to feel like a fool for asking for help when Julia was able to get over it without any difficulty. so she went and grabbed the top to try to heeve herself over it.
Todd saw that Abby was going to have a hard time getting over the fence so he went and got on his knee and offered her to stand on it to get over. she accepted. Once she was safely on the other side he offered the same for Amelia and Alex. Marcus and chris had no problem getting over the fence as well and so Todd just waited to see if the other women would like to use his leg before he went over. 'Abby seems to be prone to falling down so I think I'm going to try to stay close to her just in case she may need me' he thought to himself. besides he didn't like the fact that Jeff was getting all of her attention and beig her knight in shinning armor all the time. he wanted to do that job. he wanted to be the one her eyes sparkled for, not Jeff, HIM! 'if he even tries to hit on Abby I'll pop him one' he said so quietly that no one else could hear him |
"Where's a shotgun when you need it?" Marcus asked, trying to lighten the situation. "I didn't come prepared for the zombie apocolypse." Video games were one thing, but knowing he was about to face real life zombies that could very well kill him was enough to make Marcus want to curl up in the fetal position and suck his thumb. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Julia, and puffed out his chest just slightly. Even in the face of danger, he could be cool and suave. He hoped she would at least have some hope by his joking. "Or just any gun would do. A well aimed shot to the head would down any ol' zombie." At least, that's what video games had taught him. Who knew what would happen in real life?
|
Jeff laughed at Marcus' joke. "You ever play Resident Evil 5? You shoot half those fuckers in the head and they get about ten times worse. Let's hope we don't deal with those sort of Zombies." Jeff had just recently bought the game. It gave Zombies a whole new name. Serious, he hoped they only delt with walking dead, otherwise, they were screwed. He wondered why that idiot Todd had to bring them to such a dangerous place for their first assignment. They had no weapons (besides the knife) and only Abby and Julia had some sort of power, but he was sure they weren't going to be able to control or use it when they needed it. Things like that always seemed to happen when you don't need them and when you do need them you can't figure out how to use it.
Smiling, Julia agreed with both Marcus and Jeff. "We probaly will need something to defend ourselves if we run into one. And we should probably find some locals to find out these zombie's MO so we know what we are dealing with." |
Alex didn't need any help hopping over the fence. It was a simple enough task for her. She was pretty good at climbing things. She offered a thanks anyways and caught up with the guys who were ahead.
After a rather long walk they found a deli where they could sit and rest. The food looked good, but she had no money, besides.. This world probably didn't even accept the same currency. That made her sad. How were they supposed to survive with no money? A woman who worked in the deli asked if they needed anything. Alex asked about their so called Zombies. "You must not be from around here," she said as she walkd around the corner. "We have been cursed by the gods," she told them. Everybody gave her a strange look, hoping she would tell them more. "We tried to bring back the dead using a forbidden magic. The gods didn't approve of this and so they cursed the dead to come back to life. But not as they were before, just animated corpse. They wreck havoc all over the towns, in the fields, mines, all over. People travel in groups and carry weapons to keep themself safe. The undead walk the earth mainly after nightfall, but some have been seen during the day." Alex looked back at her friends. Shivers ran up her arms. "So, tell me more about them." "They are nothing but animated corpse. though they are much stronger than any human. They attack people and rip them apart, but they are easily put down with a blow to the head. Usually with a shotgun or any other weapon to damage them enough. They have a bite. It's poisonous. The poison will spread through your body so fast you wont be able to move with in minutes, then your vision goes, and soon the rest of your organs fail." "Oh, that doesn't sound pleasant," Chris murmured. Poisonous zombies. What the hell... "So is there a cure?" Alex asked. The woman explained there was a cure. She explained that the cure was to drink from a holy cup which would purify your body. After more questioning she explained that itw as the last gift the gods gave them before their curse. The woman excused herself as a few people walked in. "So, you think this holy cup might be the artifact we need?" She asked. She then turned to Jeff. "I think we should use your own godly gift to find out. |
"Let's find out if it is," Jeff said as he placed the knife on the table. He wished he would have practiced with this thing before leaving to this new world. He didn't even know what the hell he was supposed to do really. Maybe somebody else could try if he couldn't figure it out. At first he just stared at it, of course it didn't do anything. He picked it by the hilt and placed the shiethed blade to his forehead. Okay, so he just had to do what Rabbit said right? Can't be that hard.
|
The knife in Jeff's hands started to vibrate and hum. He quickly pulled it away in surprise. Suddenly a voice spoke from Jeff that was not his own but the Rabbit's voice instead. "Ah, good. It seems that yo u figured out how to use the knife," Jeff, but not Jeff, spoke. Alex explained the zombie situation and told him about the goblet that the woman spoke about. Rabbit told them that the goblet was one of the artifacts they needed to obtain, but in order to obtain it from the people they would have to give the people a reason to give it to them. Because they needed the goblet they would have to take care of the Zombie problem that way the people would give it to them. It was the only way. No zombies; no need for the cup.
"The goblet has powers of healing. It will aid you in your journey. I am out of time. Contact me when you finish your assignment." The Rabbit "left". |
Julia was weirded out. Maybe that wasn't really the right term for it. She was surprised to hear Rabbit's voice speaking through Jeff. It just wasn't natural, but it did work.....
"So, how are we supposed to fix their zombie problem?" Jeff didn't reply he was recovering from the shock of having somebody else take over his body. It was like his soul was pushed to the far corners of his body. He could still hear, see, and everything else, just not control what ever his body did. Very unnerving. After flexing a few times he was glad to know everything was still okay. "I think we should find a place to stay and find out more about his problem and avoid going out.. Seeing how we don't really have much protection; I saw we stay inside all night where the Zombies wont be..." |
Abby frowned. "how are we supposed to go to a hotel when we have no money in this world?" she asked. she hadn't really eaten much of her breakfast and she was starting to really get hungry. her stomach growled. she looked away from the others hoping that they didn't notice.
Todd turned to Abby when she asked about money. this was another thing that he would come in handy for he thought to himself. He took out his wallet and took out a credit card from within. "order anything you want to eat" he said holding it up. "what I have here may look like an ordanary credit card to you guys but it's not. right here is an interworld credit card. meaning that no matter the currancy they take this card will work. it allows me to be able to spend longer amonts of time in different realms. Now I don't know exactly how it works and how it knows which currancy to use, but it does." he said. after they ordered lunch they walked to a nearby hotel and Todd turned around to face them. "do you want to share a room? or shall we get two rooms where the ladies can be in one and the gentlemen can be in the other?" he asked and then thought. "maybe they have joined rooms available if we do it that way" he waited for them to decide how many rooms were needed. |
((I was a bit annoyed when I typed this. Don't take anything to heart. Jeff doesn't like Todd. Because, there is a woman I know like Todd that i don't like either. Slightly humorous though...))
"I wasn't suggesting a motel or anything. Just a place to stay," Jeff said. He knew they didn't have money he was just hoping somebody would be kind enough to let a bunch of strangers stay inside over night. He figured they would be able to find somebody. People can't be so heartless to let them stay outside and be eating by zombies, right? It was when Todd spoke about his payment plans that Jeff started getting annoyed. Honestly, he didn't like him one bit. "So how do you go about paying your credit off? Or do you just rip off people in every world you visit?" He knew deep inside Todd didn't like him either. He didn't like him because of Abby. If Jeff wanted a fight, then the guy would have it. He was a psychopathic jerk and a complete fake. Jeff just knew it. He folded his arms across his chest and frowned. He would have to go along with Todd even if he didn't like the guy. He was their guide after all. Screw that, he had the knife. He didn't need some Dimension hopping jerk. |
"Screw finding a pace to stay. Why are we hiding out when we could kick some zombie butt?" Amelia piped up. She was tired of talking. "Besides, what if the currency here isn't in dollars? For all we know it could be pencil shavings." She knew she sounded rude. She was in a bad mood, and with her twin avoiding her gaze, it made Amelia feel especially snippy. She folded her arms and made a grunting noise. The others would probably disagree with her, but at the moment, she didn't care. If she had to, she would go off by herself and fight, just to release some tension. Amelia wasn't even thinking about the consequences, they mattered very little at the moment.

Abby looked around at the girls in the room. so now what were they supposed to do? she wondered to herself. it was a nice hotel and she supposed that they might have a pool or at least a gym or something. she decided to go to see if she could find something to do. Todd walked around the corner of the nearby street. there was a weapon shop there. he decided that it would be a good idea if they all had weapons to use while dealing with the zombies. he decided to get a wide selection of weapons and let everyone choose what they wanted. he would use what was left over he didn't have a problem with that. he carried the weapons back to the hotel and knocked on the girl's room asking them to come over to the guys' room. when they came over he noticed that Abby was missing. Alex, Jules, and Amelia informed him that she went to see if there was anything to do here in the hotel and that she would be back soon. He dumped the weapontry out on his bed so that they could all see what was there. "I thought these might come in handy" he said looking around. "take your pick, Abby and I will get what is left." |
Julia looked down at the arsenal of weapons and cringed. "I can't use any of these," she said. "I don't even know how to use a kitchen knife with out chopping a finger off." Jeff laughed and agreed. He picked up a hand gun from the bed and examined it. He didn't know much about guns. "Don't we need a license to be carrying all this weaponry around?" he asked. God, he the last thing they needed was to be arrested. But then again, maybe it as okay to carry such things, with the zombies and all... He handed the gun to Julia. She whimpered and took it. "The safety is on," Jeff told her and pointed to the little switch on the gun. "It's automatic. You don't have to cock it. Aim, squeeze the trigger, and thats all you have to do." Julia turned to him with wide eyes.
"Are you serious? I'm going to kill one of us!" "I trust you're not so stupid as to point a loaded gun at anybody." He leaned over and picked up a magazine and handed that to her also. Jeff had never used any sort of weapon. He had fired off guns with his father a long time ago. And that was the extent of his knowledge; weapon safety. Julia turned to Todd. With a frown she spoke, "you don't think we're going to know how to handle these weapons do you? Half of us are going to get hurt because of our incompetence." "Well at least Amelia will get to have her fun," he smiled and winked at her. In a more friendly than flirtatious way. There was another gun, just like Julia's and he picked it up and claimed it. He wasn't going to use anything he didn't know how to use. Any gun bigger than this he'd probably just hurt himself instead of these Zombies. "I'm going to go out and find out more about these zombies. I rather have knowledge before going into this battle. Our main goal isn't zombie slaughter; it's to get that cup. In order to do that we need to find a way to permanently rid these people of their zombie problem." Jeff shoved the gun under the band of his jeans and pulled his shirt down over it, then left. Maybe he would find Abby and he could tell her what was going on. With a whistle and his hands in his pockets, Jeff sought out to find some locals. |
Marcus picked out a rifle. It would prove useful, while Amelia grabbed a shotgun. It was one of her favorite weapons, even outside of video games. Hopefully this would work out well. "Damn straight I'm going to have fun." She muttered. After careful inspection of the gun, and Marcus's rifle, Amelia focused on Todd. "Did you buy ammo for the guns? There's a few bullets here," Amelia pointed to the bed, where there were a few assorted bullets for each gun that was purchased. "But I don't think it'll be enough to kill off an entire horde."
"I have to agree with my twin." Marcus said. His voice was cold toward her, neither were ready to forgive each other. "I also think we should partner up and split up. We'd cover more ground that way." Marcus glanced hopefully at Julia, but then looked at Todd. "Just an idea." he mumbled. "I pick Christopher." Amelia said immediately. She ignored the scowl and protest from her brother. She smiled at Chris and stood by his side. "So now when do we get going?" |
Jeff didn't like the idea of splitting up; however, it might be a good thing to do. "Well, Okay. What is our plan? We're not going to just go after these zombies are we?" Then again if they did meet any zombies, they would learn more about them first hand then they would from just speaking with people. "What ever you do, don't get bitten. How big of a group are we splitting into. Two, Three, Four?"
"I don't want to split up," she pouted. "I'm not a fighter. I don't fight. I'd rather run away than face a zombie horde. And I'm so useless I'll get whoever I'm with killed." She smiled patheticly back at Marcus. All this sounded exciting and fun, but it was reality not a game. They could die. She had a gun, but she had never used one before. She wasn't going to be much help at all. "I dont' want to get people killed." "Let's just split our forces in half then." Julia nodded. "Marcus can come with us. He seems like he knows what he's doing." "Then Todd can go with Amelia. That way they have two strong people. Chris and Alex can go with Todd and Amelia. Abby can come with us. Does anybody object? I think it is fair groupings." Julia, Jeff, Marcus and Abby decided to make way down stairs to the main lobby. While everybody was looking around, Jeff talked to the pretty lady behind the counter. They spoke about these zombies and he found out just about the same things Alex did earlier from the woman and the deli. The zombies- like the ones in the movies- were easily defeated with some sort of blow to the head. Many people were now carrying all sorts of guns in order to protect themselves. When Jeff anounced that they were leaving to find out more the woman told them that they shouldn't leave until after day break. It was their job to help, he told her. She smiled sadly and didn't really believe him. What strangers would really risk their lives to help defeat an undead horde? Somebody crazy, and Jeff really thought he was going crazy. He brushed his fingers over thie butt of his gun, making sure it was still there, and got reasurence of the cool metal. "Let's go. I think this is all the information we are going to get for now." With a nervous sigh, Jeff walked out the double glass doors. |
Abby walked back into the room as Jeff said her name. she noticed that there was a bunch of weapons laying on one of the beds, this was a bad idea she thought to herself. she didn't need a gun, she would shot herself with it. she looked around the room confused. everyone turned to look at her when she walked in.
Todd was kind enough to explain all the weapons to her and told her that they would be splitting up to go and see what can be done with the zombies. When he told her that she was to be in his group everyone looked at him because they had already decided that she would be going with Jeff, Julia, and Marcus. "Er... I mean Jeff's group" he corrected. "now listen up" he said, "we wont get in trouble by carrying these weapons with the zombie problem and all, but we will once the problem is solved, so as soon as we are done with the zombies we need to sell all this weapontry back to the shop. Also I think it would be a good idea if we go to the shooting range to let everyone get used to their weapons. then after that we can split up. stay in the group you are in and with these people at all times. and meet back here just before sunset, we don't need to be out at night with the zombies, we can take care of the ones we find in the day time for right now, once we feel more confidant, and have a little more expirence each at killing the zombies then we will try to get more at night. does everyone understand?" he asked. He didn't want to sound bossy or anything, but that is how he feared he came off as. Abby didn't want to interupt Todd during his long list of instructions but she had been talking to the manager downstairs and she found out something that she thought might be usefull information. "um... I don't mean to sound stupid or anything, but I was talking to the manager downstairs and she told me that she thought that if we are able to put the zombies back into their correct graves that it might solve the problem." she said, knowing that in all of here reading and movie watching about zombies no where did it ever say anything like that. she was beginning to think that she really did sound like an idiot. "so maybe it is worth a try and we wont have to use the guns at all????" she looked around at everyone's faces. they all looked at here like she was an idiot for even listening to what the girl downstairs had said. she didn't know what to do so she picked up a gun from the bed. if she was going to have to use this thing she may as well learn how to do it first she thought!!! |
"How exactly are we supposed to put them in their graves if they are bent on attacking people, including us?" Julia asked. She didn't like the idea of using guns just as much as Abby, but those zombies weren't just going to lay down and do what they say. "I think we should find out exactly how they are coming to live. They say the gods are punishing them, and I say bullshit. What kind of gods would turn family's relatives into these creatures and send them to kill them? I say if what Abby says is right then there has to be some sort of curse or somebody behind these zombies."
Jeff whole heartedly agreed with everything. "Let's do as Todd suggested. Get to a shooting range for a bit of practice, then we'll go out. Because there's not going to be any negotiating with zombies." |
The group practiced at the range until each of them got a feel for their weapons. Alex talked with a few people who were also practicing in order to keep themselves safe from the zombies. An elderly man talked about his theory behind the zombies. Necromancers. Some people claimed that all the zombies were raised from their graves by somebody, no the gods. After all these people did once try to raise the dead on their own. Maybe there ewas somebody else doing the same thing. It was worth looking into, she thought. After they spent a couple hours everybody was starting to get hungry for dinner. They went out to a restraunt were Todd paid for them again and headed back to the hotel where they got themselves ready for the hunt. Once ready they split back up into their groups and headed out of the hotel. The sun was starting to set and everybody they passed was running and most looked worried. All of them told them to hurry inside before the sun set, but of course they couldn't do that. Alex was interested in all this raising the dead sort of things and she even read some things about it. It wasn't possible in her world, but it was int his one. Even though the subject was intriguing, she was frightened as hell about the zombies. She stayed close to Marcus as they walked down the empty street.
|
Jeff had to admit; it was rather scary being out in the open, in the dark, where zombies could pop out at them any moment. His hands were shaking in shear terror of what could happen to him or Julia. He was glad to have her nearby where he could keep an eye on her and protect her if need be.
Julia was more afraid than anybody else in their group. She had to force herself to stay calm. Her heart was beating so fast that it sometimes made her dizzy and they had to stop so she could calm down. They had been walking for only a half our or so and there were still no signs of any zombies around. Jeff hoped to god that they didn't have to face one. But they had to stop one and test out the theory Abby found out. Putting them back in their grave. So, first they had to capture a zombie, incapacitate it, then ID it, and lastly put it in its grave. Jeff walked with his gun out (Its semi-auto. I said it was automatic earlier and I just now realized that hand guns aren't automatic. Ha) and a with his other hand he held a flash light, resting on his gun hand's wrist. Just like he saw in the police shows. |
(( I don't even remember if I picked out a weapon for Alex and Chris. But I'm going to say Chris got a fancy ass sword and Alex picked... Um... let's say there was a mace.. Yeah.. A morning star.. Yeah...... yeah... No guns for her..))
Alex clutched her weapon with both hands. So tight that her nuckled blanched and her fingers hurt, but that didn't cause her to loosen her grip. Oh, no. She was going to bash this thing straight into the first zombie that popped out at them. Smash their stupid brains in, thats what she would do to them. Everybody else picked up guns, but she didn't want to touch one. She hated guns. Sure, maybe she had a better chance of survivle with one, but even with practice she wouldn't be able to hit anything and she most likely would shoot one of her friends or somebody else. She was used to beating people, in a friendly way, with blunt objects, so this weapon would do nicely. Chris also didn't choose a gun, because he didn't like them either. Well, he didn't mind them. He just perfered a bladed weapon to a gun. After all he had much more experience with them. Though, he never used a sword on anybody, he and his brother used to spar with makeshift swords made of bamboo and some were made of wood. He wasn't sure how he would fare against a zombie, but he felt he had better odds with a sword than a gun. Alex eyed Todd and Chris. Chris didn't look to scared, mostly nervous she thought. She couldn't tell what was going on with Todd and he hoped he would be able to handle things. He had magic after all, right? "I hope we don't run into a zombie horde," she said. "Really, we might have a chance with just one zombie... and the guys can deal with one zombie on their own right?" |
