Sarah Jane and John

Sarah Jane's eyes widened. "Look here, Vanessa is it? Call me old fashioned, but I think this constant... hatred between Werewolves and vampires is a bit cliche. I mean, why? I understand you, don't get me wrong, but don't you think that she's acting the way she is because she wants to prove you wrong? You call her an 'it' and you want to get rid of her, but you haven't given her a chance. I'm not blaming you, I'm playing devil's advocate, but she chose you out of what, 8 billion people? She chose you and I think there's a reason for that. And if my brilliant mind doesn't fool me, I think... that you don't want to admit that there is something in your head that argues with you. And because Malakani does what she wants that frightens you. All that freedom... all that power?" She spoke softly, and she stared into the girl's eyes.

"Now, do you think Malakani wants to talk to me or John? Ask her." Sarah Jane said, and it sounded like an idea not like a demand. "And I promise that I'll help you get your control back. If I can open that door from here without a key, would you trust me?" She pointed at a door about 20 feet from her, the Janitor's closet. She pulled her Sonic Pen out of her pocket, pointed it at the door and the device whirred and a blue light shone and the door sprung open. "And close." Sarah Jane said, seemingly enjoying herself, as she changed the setting and the door locked itself again.

Vanessa's eyes narrowed sharply at the girl in front of her. She straightened her back, forcing her body to be still as she spoke. Her voice was hard and measured, as if she were trying very hard to keep an even tone and not shout. Despite her best efforts, however, her anger still rang through.

"You do not know me. Or Malakani. Do not pretend that you do. You do not know the things she has done. The crimes against nature that she has committed through my body. You want to know the reason why she chose me? Me, out of all those millions of people? Because I am a werewolf, as you said. Because it would please her to watch me tear myself apart in shame and guilt for the things she makes me do when she takes over. Do not pretend like she is just some misunderstood creature. Her intentions are perfectly plain. I would have thought you would have seen that when she broke my control."

As she spoke, her voice grew harder, angrier, and she knew she had to calm down. Getting angry was one thing for a normal human, but she knew what anger led to in her condition. She wasn't harmless. If she let her anger get the better of her, she might change and lash out. She wasn't much better than Malakani after all, but at least she didn't consciously hurt people. That was the only thing she could hold on to, the only thing that kept her from killing herself or having herself locked up so she wouldn't hurt anyone. And there was still a job to be done. She couldn't do it angry. She took a few deep, calming breaths, closing her eyes and breathing in and out until her heart stopped pumping rage through her blood.

When she opened her eyes, she focused again on the girl and spoke. Her demeanor was still cold, but her voice was steadier, less harsh. Her eyes were still hard, however, and it was plain to see how much offense she took to this, despite trying to stay calm and look at it objectively. It was never something she could step away from and look at objectively. It was much too personal.

"As for the vampire-werewolf thing...I cannot help that. It is written into my blood. It is entwined in my instincts. It is as much a part of this body as my soul, and I could not hope to cut it out any sooner than I could cut out my own consciousness. And please do not think I asked for this. I was just a normal human a year ago. But my blood tells me the Wyrm are unnatural. Despite the rare few who do not drink," she said, inclining her head in respect for the male who had spoken before, "the mass of them feed on the living to maintain their life and their victims are rarely given the mercy of a quick death. They have grown so much that they break the balance. It is my job to maintain that balance. Protecting the humans and cutting down the vampires that would kill and feed on them is my duty. And that is why we do not abide them. Besides, if you could smell the stench of death on them, perhaps you would be a little less keen on them too."

She stooped down to lift her bags up, turning her face briefly in the direction she had been pointed in, before looking back at the girl. Her temper had simmered and died, but there was lingering irritation in her voice. She did not like people assuming things about her. And she hated when people jumped to conclusions, especially about her situation with Malakani. Couldn't they understand that not everyone was blessed with a benevolent Other? Couldn't they see that is was not a gift, but a curse? Maybe not. They were not all so unfortunate.

"We are not children, neither Malakani nor I. It is not a matter of 'giving her a chance' or 'learning to all play nice'. I am not afraid of power, nor freedom. But that sort of freedom is just the abandonment of humanity. I would not trade my soul for all the freedom and all the power in the world. It would be meaningless, and I would be damned, just as she is. I gave her a chance. She tortured and slaughtered an entire town with it. I will not make that mistake again."

She turned away from the girl, her voice slightly softer, tired. She was weary of this struggle, but she knew better than to rest.

'No rest for the wicked,' Malakani sang mockingly in her head. Vanessa couldn't help but silently agree. She turned her eyes to the girl's trick with the door and looked away, unsurprised.

"Magic is no mystery to me. Your tricks and talents will not win my trust. And though you say you are merely playing Devil's Advocate, let me warn you now; neither will siding with a monster. Malakani invaded my mind. She has raped my consciousness and forced her presence here where only one should dwell. She is not a guest. She is not a friend. She is not welcome."

Her tensed muscles slumped a little and she let out a heavy sigh, giving the girl a sympathetic look over her shoulder.

"I'm sorry; I'm not here to make enemies. But I'm not here to make friends either. If it should happen along the way, then I will not fight it, but my priority, first and foremost, is to keep Malakani from hurting any more people. She doesn't belong here, and I refuse to let her use my body for her wickedness. I thank you for your assistance, but I'm sorry. You were wrong about us."

She put one foot in front of the other, resolute. She was sorry for having to come down so hard on that girl. She was sorry that she couldn't be more likable, more normal, like the others. She was sorry her Other wasn't there to teach her and help her grow in a friendly, mentoring way. Most of all, she was sorry she had to turn away from these possible friends. Her life had always been lonely and she longed for the companionship. But she hadn't lied before. Her priority was keeping the world safe from Malakani, in any way she could. Sometimes there had to be sacrifices. Being sorry wouldn't change anything, and it wouldn't protect them. She had to find other ways to do that.

Still, the hallway had never seemed longer.

Sarah Jane and John

John snarled at Sarah Jane. "Drop the act!" He hissed at his host, very angry. "Just because you don't want to be here, there is no reason to tantalise people who don't deserve your attitude!" Calm your temper, John! "No, I will not! I am sick to death of you treating people like they are nothing compared to you! SHUT UP, JOHN! You have no idea!" Sarah Jane was back and this time tears in her eyes. She turned to the girl. "You think you have it bad! Try having a mother who was banished from her home and who died giving birth to you, a father who when you see him might be a completely different person because he died and came back to life, try having the UNIVERSE in your head and not just an Other! Try seeing the deaths of millions of people in history in your dreams, over and over again! Try seeing if certain events in time are fixed or in flux, and you try dealing with the fact that you are the only type of what you are in the entire Universes!" She paused there, great tears running down her face. "Sarah Jane, shut up! No, John! This time it's my turn to be honest! People will never believe that I am what I am because, they don't believe that such things exist! I have two hearts! I have a Sonic Device, and I am not ready to hear that someone is having a bad life until they've seen mine! It's the worst being like me! I can see those that died in history, I see their faces, I know their names, and do you know why? I SAW IT HAPPEN, I MADE IT HAPPEN! All those people, I couldn't save them! I sacrificed myself so many times, but my friends sacrificed themselves for me!" Her voice had risen to a scream and the tears blurred her vision. She looked crazed, mad. Faces... images flashed before her eyes. Her mother, her friends, people she had tried to rescue and the times that they died because of her.

"I have seen the filth of the Universe, and I have fought for this little world, this TINY little world, and yet nothing I do can balance the things I have done! I keep running because I dare not look back, because the things I have done are nothing to what your Other could do! I have destroyed PLANETS, caused the death of millions of people, because I wasn't able to save them! But they are all here," She tapped her head. "All in here, because they are always there when I close my eyes. Staring at me, accusing me, and they are right!" She sobbed and then looked up again. "If you still think that your life is so much harder than mine..." She whispered and John took control. "ENOUGH, Sarah Jane!" And he began to cry. "You... you... promised me, you said that it wasn't your fault..." All those years... those many many lies. "Look here, you've revealed your true self!" He hissed harshly and continued. "You abhor violence, and yet... I thought I knew everything about you. Your adventurous life, your travels... the people you had helped." He trailed off, unable to continue. Sarah Jane returned and her eyes flickered back to blue. "You see what I am now, Vanessa? I am a worse monster than Malakani. And now you have it. The real story of Sarah Jane." She stopped and rubbed her eyes. "Now, if you'd be so kind as to forgive my assumings." She cleared her throat, but her voice was still thick with tears. She pulled her face into an expression of calm, but it kept falling back into the hurt, crazed and ashamed expression that truly expressed her being. But she couldn't stop now. It didn't matter now anyway. "I have killed more often than you could imagine. And nothing, absolutely nothing you can do will make me believe that you have a life worse than mine. So what if you have an Other that lives off other living beings? SO DO THE HUMANS! NOW TELL ME THAT VAMPIRES ARE SO MUCH WORSE!" She screamed. "Humans are ruining this world and sometimes, instead of fighting for it, I feel like turning away. You, the humans, you brought this upon yourself! Your greed, your hate, your selfishness, the very ground you stand on is poisoned by your corruption! And then you expect others to clean up after you! My mother, my mother, died on this planet. Do you wanna know why? The pollution was too much for her system. She could've saved herself and sacrificed me, but she died, to protect me, SHE DIED BECAUSE OF YOU!" Renewed tears ran down her face. "Aliens come here to learn from you, and do you know what they see? Blood, and war, and revenge and FILTH! This Earth, this once beautiful Earth has been poisoned, corrupted and killed because the Human Race couldn't ever have enough!" She pressed the balls of her hands against her eyes and then looked up again. "I don't have to help you, and fight off what might kill you, but I do, and do you know why? BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE WORTH FIGHTING FOR, THAT YOU CAN EVOLVE INTO SOMETHING BETTER! Prove to me that my mother did not die in vain. Prove it to me, and do something clever with your life! Tell that to the world, because I swear, that I will not stop fighting! NEVER!"

((Well, I always thought that werewolves have a certain smell about them. Bit like dog, you know, but that is just my imagination running wild. Forgive me. Yeah, and she just assumed because of her reaction to vampires. She's a big ol' pot full of arrogant assumings. Again, forgive me. ))

((It's okay, honey. Looking back at my profile, I did neglect to say she had the smell of Man. Vanessa is actually a character I've run in White Wolf games and I just converted her to fit this game's form. It was my fault for not remembering to put that in, so I apologize. But let's just continue on; thank you for being such a lovely, patient darling. *Hugs*))

Rain & Akemi

Rain heard something down the hall, and with Akemi, decided to go check it out. She snapped her heels back on and straightened her shirt, then went down the hall and turned left, the direction Akemi had said, and saw a door open and close itself. She peeked down that hallway and found Azura, along with two other girls. One had wings as well, and a pen. Does EVERYONE have pens that do something? First Derrick's knife in his pen, and then this magical pen. Akemi chuckled and led her down the hall, stopping near the two girls. "Is everything okay here? You two seem newer to the hav-" Akemi stopped as he heard their argument, "-en. My name is Akemi." Rain noticed that he didn't say anything about her, and when she tried to push forward to gain control, he blocked her simply as if he was swatting away a fly. Kemmy! Don't get all worked up. This isn't the best situation. Akemi cleared his throat and waited, standing there in Rain's body, waiting for something, anything.

Azura & Rose
Responding to Malakani's question Azura answered quietly "Yes They do work...." Rose took over to explain the situation in detail, "That's why we're here, I want to show the wings off all the time while Azura wants to keep them hidden." "Another vampire...fun..."
Azura spoke trailing her words off not wanting to upset anyone. "It's okay, Vanessa, Rose had guessed at her name because she saw a name on the suitcases and assumed it was hers, "Everyone comes to the Haven to learn control and equality between you and your other.She finished speaking and nodded.

"Thank you for protecting us."Azura and Rose whispered into Sarah Jane's ear before taking a few steps backwards into a wall to stay away from the coming imminent physical fight between the two supernatural beings.

Azura looked at Rain and shrugged, she motioned for Rain to come closer, whispering to her Azura speaks,"I've been here the whole time and I'm confused with what's going on...""Same here"Rose said coming forward. They looked at Rain with confusion. "Do you think we could find a way to stop the arguement?" Rose had went back into the body because she was too confused to try and control the body for more than a few seconds. It's alright Rose, I think Sarah Jane is trying to protect us.I'm glad I'm her friend Rose nodded to Azura inside.

Rain & Akemi

Akemi nodded. "I'm sure I'll find a way. I could always use my power," Akemi whispered back. He moved closer toward Azura, resting a hand on her shoulder. Are you going to try to lift them into the air? I'll try doing one of them first, and then the other. I've only lifted people a couple of times. Don't over-do it, you might hurt yourself. Akemi nodded and focused on the two who were arguing, picking up the one with the wings first, and then the other. He moved between them, looking up at the both of them on the ceiling. "Would you two care to tell me what this is all about? I'll release you gently if so, but you don't want to go flying through the walls, do you?" Inside, Rain knew he wouldn't throw them through the walls, but she knew that he had his serious poker face on. Akemi . . Please don't . . .

Azura & Rose

"Okay" Azura said to Rain quietly. She watched in amazement as Akemi raised the two arguing girls into the air. At the same time Rose watched in total fascination, she was going to ask Akemi a bunch of questions when all of this was over with. woah!!!!! Do you see what I'm seeing Azura??? I see it, Rose, I see it.... Azura's mind faded off still taking in the floating people.

Sarah Jane and John

Sarah Jane turned in the air, using her wings to manouver her. "I don't see why you don't understand, you've been listening, haven't you!" She hissed. She struggled against it. "Fancy tricks, levitation, what next? Even if I went flying through walls, would it undo all that I've done? I don't want to care anymore, I just want to go back, I want to go back to my father. I don't give a damn about this place, because nothing, nothing can make me better!" She shouted but then paused, and smiled, but it looked more like a grimace. "But if you really want to know. Well, Vanessa dear and I were talking because her Other was taking control and Vanessa didn't like that one bit. So I tried to be kind, I tried to help, but obviously, I don't need to help the Human Race because they are fine where the are, rotting on this stinking planet. I could just leave, send a distress signal and be picked up. I could turn my back on this planet, let it be invaded. But I never would. Do you know why? Because I care. And if again, my brilliant mind isn't decieving me, you're using some low frequency causing the air molecules around me to shift and bend, therefore lifting me. If I could find that frequency and reverse, what would happen? But that's a shame, because I haven't got a Sonic Device. Oh, yes I have. But I won't spoil your fun." Sarah Jane said and pulled the Sonic Pen out and waved it around teasingly. She knew that finding the frequency and tuning it correctly could, a, take very long and, b, go horribly wrong. She hoped that this person, he or she or whatever, didn't know that. But she had a very convincing face."And, what do you think of the true story of Sarah Jane, Destroyer of Worlds?" She said softly and rubbed tears from her eyes.

Rain & Akemi

Akemi sighed and rubbed his head, holding the struggling girl in the air against her will. "I only heard the last part about something about what you really are. Sonic Device? Let me see." He forcefully pulled it down out of her grasp, looking at the pen. "And no. Pure levitation, source unknown. If I was changing the air, then all of us would be up there, and I would have to put you two down to put myself down. As far as this pen.." Akemi reached out and touched it, closing his eyes and feeling its power. His eyes snapped open and he let it fall to the ground. "Where did you get that?" It was more of a command than a question, and his eyes blazed with rage. "Who gave you this object. What was his name? His name!" Rain was starting to worry. Akemi . . Calm down! Akemi!

Azura & Rose
"Do whatever you want to do Sarah Jane." Rose spoke directly to the girl, not caring what was going on "No one is going to force you to stay here, it's your choice. If you don't want to be here then leave. You are kind, and you are helpful, but if you don't want help earth, don't. It's your choice. Rose finished coming around the floating being to be parrallel with Rain so she could look into Sarah Jane's eyes. Rose is right, It's all your choice."Azura stared at Sarah Jane and listened to Akemi's frantic voice. "What's wrong?"

Sarah Jane and John

Sarah Jane lunged for the pen when it was pulled out of her grip. She watched it clatter to the ground, her face pulled into a snarl. "He was my father, my father, a Timelord." The word seemed to echo in the hall, the sound waves bouncing off the walls. She stretched towards her Sonic Pen. "His name?" She laughed. But it was a cold laugh. "His name burns in the stars, but no-one but he knows it." She whispered. "But they know him as..." She broke off. "I've told you enough. How do I know I can trust you?" She listened to Rose and a single tear ran down her face. "The Doctor. He is known as the Doctor. I don't see how it matters!" She called down to him. "Give it back to me!" She cried out. Father... father... John was silent. He had been. For a while.

Rain & Akemi

Akemi snarled again and dropped the winged girl without warning. "Go. Do not speak that name in my presence. Leave my sight." He didn't even bat an eye towards the girl as she fell to the ground. He looked up at the other girl, suspended in the air, and dropped her softly, landing her on her feet. He looked daggers at the winged girl Rose had called Sarah Jane, and said in a softer tone, "Your father killed my brother with one of those stupid experiments. My brother, my poor brother, defenseless and come to spread word of something that had happened in the town where they resided. Your father saw him as a threat, and tortured him, then taking his life with that disgusting pen. Leave, girl, as I do not speak your nor his name, and if there is trouble out of you, you will be dealing with me and Derrick." Rain's eyes popped open. Derrick? That useless brat? What do you want with that fag? Though he did some things in the past it seems he has regained himself with Noelani. He's strong, and- retarded. If he does anything at all to Evie...

Sarah Jane and John

"LIAR!" Sarah Jane screamed after him. "My father is a great man! And using a Sonic Device for torture isn't even possible! He always gives people a chance and he does not kill. nor does he torture!" She screamed again. Blood leaked from a corner of her mouth and she slumped of the floor and cried. Her shoulder racked with gentle sobs, and her fingers searched for her Sonic Pen and she clutched on to it, as if her life depended on it. "Such a world this is... saviours not welcome. They curse us, hate us, my Other turned on me. I have nothing... absolutely nothing..." She whispered and pushed herself into a sitting position, pointed the pen to her mouth and pressed the button. The sonic waves healed the cuts and bruises. She looked at Rose and Azura. "It is time I told you what I am." She said softly. She was still crying and she fixed them with her clever eyes.

Azura & Rose

Azura and Rose watched in terror as the 4 beings argued. "Don't cry Sarah Jane. Rose spoke in a quiet voice. Rose.... Just shush...I want her to be okay though, Zura.I know, but these two need to work out their differences.

Rain & Akemi

Akemi looked at the girl. "Your father killed my brother. There is nothing else to it. Did he show you what else the pen can do? Did he? Did he show you it can be used as a weapon? Did he?" Akemi was furious. He walked over and snatched the pen out of her hands, not caring that she was crying. He turned the pen over in his hands, twisting the pen cap in his hands. It didn't loosen, instead switched to a different mode. He set it at the ground near her hand. "Aim that pen at a door or wall. It will make a hole in the wall. If you aim it elsehwhere, at a person, it will kill them, and if you kill anyone here, I will come back in another body and kick your ass."

His eyes glowered with rage. Kemmy.. You have a brother? Had a brother. Right.. I'm.. so sorry.. Don't be. Rain took over her body, ignoring Akemi's protest. She walked over to Sarah Jane and kneeled by her, helping her up. "I'm sorry. My name is Rain, and I am the host of this body. Akemi's never been like this before, and I don't know what's into him." She ran her thumb over the girl's cheek, wiping her tears away. "You have the right to be mad at him, but I think he also has the right to be mad at you. Either way, I have no say in this at all."

Azura & Rose

Rose stands on the opposite side of Sarah Jane rubbing her back trying to calm her. "You're alright, Sarah Jane, You're alright, everything will go back to normal."Rose nodded though she had no idea if it ever would.

Tally and Homany were sitting by themselves. Homany was in control still and he was once more using his mind to probe around looking for people to meet. All of a sudden he came upon a group, mostly inhuman, nearby. He moved Tally's body to where they were and stood a little ways away.
