[[What about Derrick?]] Derrick & Noelani Derrick dug his face into Evie's neck and let his tears fall soundlessly. He held on to her for dear life, and Noey patted his back inside their mind. Derrick, oh, Derrick.. Avena.. I-I can't... I'm sorry, Avena, I can't help you.. I'm sorry.. Avena? I tried, Avena.. Noey was starting to get worried. Whoever this Avena person was.. And he was holding something from Evie. He had a secret that even Noey didn't know, and it seemed like Derrick was stuck inside his mind. Noey sprang out and took control. "Evie.. There's something wrong with Derrick. I don't know what's.." Noey started stuttering as she listened to Derrick. Avena.. He won't hurt you anymore. We can leave now, Avena, we can leave.. We can take Caleb and leave... Noey sat up. "He keeps mumbling about a woman named Avena.. I think that's his mother. He's stuck in his memories, Evie.. We have to do something about it.. We can't just let him..." Derrick went back through his memories, taking Noey with him. His body slumped forward towards Evie, his eyes went blank. They were in a basement. It was cold, and the floor was damp. Derrick was holding a woman and his younger brother in his arms, and they were covering their ears as there was someone stomping around and breaking things. It stayed that way for a while, the woman and the child crying, Derrick unphased. The basement door flew open, and a man, clearly drunk, stepped in and looked around. "I knuw yur in here, ya bashterd! Give meh my wifes an' shiled back..." Derrick got up from their hiding space, the woman tugging on his pants for him to sit back down. "Don't..." She begged, but Derrick walked up to the door and faced the man. "You.. You're not my father. You can't boss me around. Go back to the gutters that you came from." The man staggered and leaned against the door. "Dun back-shass meh, shiled! Nuw wher's my whife?" Derrick reeled his hand back and backhanded the man, and the man cracked the bottle over his head. Derrick! Stop.. I don't want to see this. The man kicked him in the groin, and when Derrick reeled over, gave the same treatment to his face. He shoved the bottle at his temples, and Derrick rolled, gaining a scratch. Derrick! No! They were in the living room now, and the man had found his pistol. He began firing at Derrick, missing by many feet. The pistol ran out, and Derrick grabbed the sword off the wall. The older man raised the pistol again, aiming at Derrick's face. He pulled the trigger, and nothing came out. He looked in the barrel, suprised, then back at Derrick. Derrick had raised the knife... DERRICK! Stop... Noey was sobbing now, begging, pleading him to stop the memory. Somehow it was harder for her to watch than for her to look back and see her comrades dying at her feet.. |
Evalign & Michaela Evie held Derrick, but was surprised to hear Noey's female tone in his voice. She pulled back and looked at the man. "Derrick...?" As Noey mentioned a womans voice her eyes narrowed as she ventured into his mind. "Avena..his mother.." Suddenly the boy slumped an she was wisked away into his memory along with Noey. She held him up as her eyes went wide and she left her body a moment, michi too afraid to come forth and hid away. Evie's body slumped as her spirit was momentarily taken into Derricks subconcious. She looked around and saw Derick with his mother, it was if she was there, but she phased through everything, like she was a ghost. "Derrick..?" she yelled, then boy not hearing her. As the door open she gasped at the man. "Go Away!" She watched Derrick approach and strike the man. Yelling out she ran foward trying to his the man, but her fists went right through him. "LEAVE HIM ALONE!" When Derrick rolled into the living room she went to him, standing feebly infront of him protectively, hoping it might do something. Seeing the pistole be drawn she tried to grab it, having no effect as Derrick dodged them all. Evie turned to see Derrick grab the sword and didnt know what to do. She was useless. Once out of bullets Derrick raised the blade and Evie turned away covering her ears. "NOO!!" Her dream self collapsed on the ground with ears covered. |
Derrick & Noelani Derrick's hand came down, impaling the older man into the couch with his eyes open, staring up into nothing. Derrick watched, blood splattered his face, and he closed his eyes and turned away. "Avena, Caleb.. It's over." The woman ran to him, and the child as well. His eyes ran around the room, his arms holding his mother and brother. "Let's get out of here." Avena looked up into her son's eyes. "But where will we go? We have no money, no food, no means of traveling.." She looked down at her younger son, petting his head and pressing his face against her chest, determined to keep him there. Oh, Derrick.. Noey sobbed in the corner, ghost-like, clinging to Derrick's form. At that time, I was thirteen, he said, and nothing more. Derrick, fifteen now, loading his mother and brother in a boat, pretending to be the Captain's Assistant as he had mugged the real, putting the clothes on, completing the look. "You'll be safe there," he said to them, kissing their foreheads, hugging them so. "You're the man of the family, now, Caleb. Take care of Av- Mommy." Caleb's eyes widened. "You're not leaving, are you Derry? You can't leave! You can-" Derrick clamped his hand over the boys' mouth. "Shh, Caleb. Yes, I must leave. You two will be safer wherever this boat goes. And Caleb, Avena.. I love you guys." He ran from the boat, dodging into alleyways, going back to the house they had abandoned. There, he lived with the others who had bought the place as their son until Junior year in high school, then took the lives of them, taking the name of the man's, Benjamin Kova. He lived the man's life until he was caught, sent to prison, then escaped. I don't know how long they've searched, but I know the case has been dropped by now. Noey looked up at Derrick as he lifted his hair, exposing his forehead. He had a long, ugly scratch above his right ear, and it was parted there as no hair had grown. Noey understood. He kept his hair long, but not too long, so no-one could see the long scar. |

[imgright]http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m44/Kasumi_Makoto/Rp%20Characters/VanessaSwayHomidCrinosResized.jpg[/imgright]She hadn't gotten more than three steps when the dam broke. Every feeling, every stab of guilt, seemed to be pouring out of this woman. It was incredible, such a small frame could hold so much burden, so much pain. It stopped Vanessa in her tracks and she felt her heart breaking for this girl.
How could she be so selfish? How could she have thought her burden could be so much worse than this girl's? As the truth poured out, she couldn't help but cry with her. What a terrible fate, what a curse, to have to see those things. To have to know and never be able to stop the death of so many people. The bags slid from her hands, but the sound of them hitting the floor was lost in the girl's sobbing voice. Vanessa knew the laments of the dead, knew regrets, knew pain, but they had all passed. Their suffering was over. This girl still lived, still suffered. She didn't bother wiping her face of the tears that were streaming down them. She didn't think, she didn't question. Even being raised into the air and then put down didn't phase her. She just crossed the small distance between them and put her arms around the girl. It felt so inadequate, so tiny a gesture, but she had to. She couldn't bear the girl's pain, but she had to do what she could to help. Her voice, so forceful and strong before, was tiny now, weak, but all the anger had gone from it. Now there was only sorrow. "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. I didn't know...." What useless words. What good were words, now? How could a person ever convey this feeling, this regret, this self-loathing, in something so inadequate as words? She just held tight to the girl, crouched on the floor. Looking up at the other young woman who had levitated them, she arranged her face into one of calm determination. "Please. Now is not the time. Can you not see she is hurting as it is? The quarrel you have is with her father, not her. You cannot blame his crimes, if they indeed happened, on her. If you have nothing helpful to add, please, walk away. Now is not the time for this." Malakani was surprisingly silent in her head, but she felt her presence. For a brief moment, she wished she could love her, as everyone else loved their Other. But how? How could she forgive her? It was true, what Sarah Jane had said. Humans were terrible in their own right. Even she was guilty of not doing all she could. She would have liked to say she was doing better now. It was her job to save the earth, and she worked so hard at it. She hoped someday she could become something better, like Sarah Jane hoped. How could she ever restore that hope now though, when the girl was so close to shaking apart? She stroked the girl's hair, drying her face with the sleeve of her coat. Her voice was stronger now, yet gentle. Soothing. "Come on, why don't we get you out of here? Where is your room? Is it nearby? We could go to mine, if it's closer." 'We're not unpacked. We don't have anything to offer,' Malakani spoke softly in her mind. 'Anywhere is better than here. I think the best thing for her now is to get away from this. We'll make do,' she responded, surprised at the gentleness in Mal's thoughts. She had never known her to be gentle before. A stab of guilt hit her heart like an arrow. Was she wrong? But the faces of her victims flashed across her mind and reminded her. No. Not entirely wrong. Malakani was a monster. But...maybe, redemption was not out of reach. There might be hope, however small, however distant. That wasn't what mattered right now though. She reached down and touched Sarah Jane's hand. "Come on. Let's get you somewhere quiet." ((Vanessa wouldn't have her name on her luggage, it's not a sort of thing she'd do, but we can say you assumed the name from what Mal said earlier, Sexy Blue. But please, in the future, don't assume facts about my character. It's a peeve of mine when people do that.)) |
Akemi was furious with the other girl he had released from the air. "You, you need to stay out of this. I don't care whether its the time for this or not. I levitated the two of you to distract you from your arguement. She began to tease and get an attitude with me. LISTEN, child, and maybe you would know. I don't start things like this. Don't bring your sass to me and expect- Anywho, Hello, I'm Rain, Akemi's Host. He gets pretty pumped up about his brother, but I have to admit you came off rude, telling him what to do and all, saying he didn't have anything helpful to say. You both have a point, but still this girl is not feeling the best, I say." Rain slapped Akemi mentally and left him there, fuming and suprised at her slap. She sighed and wondered what the hell she would do next. She ran a hand through her hair, sighing.
|
[imgleft]http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m44/Kasumi_Makoto/Rp%20Characters/VanessaSwayHomidCrinosResized.jpg[/imgleft]She stood, the hardness back in her eyes. How dare he? Was his hurt pride so much more important than a person's suffering? She bit her tongue until the host spoke and she put herself in front of the girl, still crouched on the floor. She was careful to keep her tone even, not wanting to give into the anger that had flared inside her. Now was not the time for anger.
"I heard perfectly clear, and I do not appreciate your Other's tone, nor of his use of "child". I have long been of age. He is not innocent of rudeness either, might I say. I made a very simple and polite request that he walk away, rather than continue to attack this girl emotionally. If I came off as rude, it was only to spare this girl any further suffering. And can he not see? Was he not listening? This girl has suffered, suffers still, for her mere existence. She has had to bear terrible things, things nobody should ever have to bear. His loss is truly tragic, it is, but was it her hand that caused it? Was it she who killed his brother? No. His anger is woefully misdirected." She glanced down at the girl, feeling a pain of sympathy, before looking calmly back into the other girl's eyes. "She was in pain and she lashed out at his interference, yes, and that was wrong, but she is not in a state to make good decisions, now is she? And neither is your Other. He is too full of anger right now. He is not without fault. Nobody is innocent in this situation. Neither of them are fit to continue this like logical adults. And I did not say he didn't have anything helpful to say. I said if he didn't, then he should leave. It was a simple misunderstanding." She took a deep breath, letting her frazzled nerves relax. She felt so exhausted, so tired of fighting. Her head throbbed from all the yelling. The air was so thick with emotion; she felt like she was choking on it. Still, she continued, resolute. Her tone softened, her eyes slightly pleading. She just wanted this fighting to end. It was accomplishing nothing, only serving to hurt all involved. "Now, I think..."she began again, putting emphasis on the words,"...the best thing for everyone is to walk away from this and approach the issue later, when everyone is calm and able to think clearly. I believe things should never be decided in anger. So, again I ask you please, walk away." She crouched down by the girl again, a hand on her back and the other held for her to take. |
Akemi cocked his head. "You think that she's the only one? All of us have some hardships to go through, honey." He laughed. "I was raised in an abusive family. Day and night I was abused, and when my thirteenth birthday came, I was already doped up on everything. High as a plane, and there was no stopping me. This girl hasn't been through half the things that I have been, and I doubt you'd want to know anything about my past. On that note, I leave you. Feel pity for me, feel pity for the girl, but pity parties accomplish nothing. Rain, say goodbye to your friends, we're leaving." With that, Akemi shut himself inside their mind, locking Rain out.
Rain sighed again, taking control. "Look, I'm sorry about this. Akemi's not usually.. Like this. He's all kind and caring and loveable and everything. I'm not a fighter so I have nothing to throw in." She scratched her head, and turned away. "Goodbye. I hope we meet on better circumstances. And Azura, later, kay?" She looked back over her shoulder and smiled, waving to Azura before walking down the hall. As soon as she hit the front door, she walked outside the haven and down the street. AKEMI! What the hell is your problem? My problem? Who's side are you on here? No side. I'm Switzerland, the neutral. Don't go taking your anger out on other people. She- I DON'T CARE if she started it! What happened to my loveable buddy Akemi? Akemi flinched. Buddy? That's all they were? Nothing happened to him. He's right here. No, don't you even try to get all 'I'm perfectly fine' with me. Don't try to play me like this, Akemi. I know you play dirty, and it won't work this time. Rain- Akemi. I- You? I'm sorry. You're sorry? Akemi.. You need to get a control on your anger, and be more respectful to people. I'm sorry I didn't have the best life ever. I'm sorry I was raised on cocaine and marijuana. I'm sorry my father wasn't there for me. Some people take things for granted. The one fucking person who ever cared about me is GONE, Rain, and what am I supposed to do? Go back and apologize, 'I'm sorry I blew up. It's okay that your family killed my brother, really. Let's be the best of friends.' Really? You were raised with both of your parents, scar-free, and you're so nice that you can't even pass a bum on the street without giving him five dollars. Akemi humphed, and locked himself away again. Rain sat against a wall and rubbed her temples, sighing, figuring out what to do with him. There was always the option of having him taken to another body, if someone skilled enough was glad to do so. |
Vanessa huffed, slightly irritated. Hasn't been through half of what he has? Of course not, this girl's life had been completely different. They all hurt. They all suffered. Just because their ways of suffering differed didn't mean they were any less painful.
She suffered from her life being torn from her, everything she knew changing into a new, terrifying, dark reality that only nightmares had glimpsed. She had to bear the weight of a heavy responsibility; to protect the earth from the dark horrors that would seek to harm it. Be they human, vampire, or even werewolves gone mad. And yet, she was meant to protect the humans. Nothing about her future was clear and every day she knew would bring another challenge to her door. She had become a tool for evil, a tool for slaughter and torture, when her Other would take over. Innocent people were killed with these hands, and she couldn't stop it. Every time she managed to wrest control from Malakani, it was too late; she was already covered in blood. She had to see the faces of her victims every day and dread the next time Malakani might break from her hold. How did that sort of pain not matter? And what about Sarah Jane? Doomed to a life of always knowing what would happen, of watching people die and never being able to stop it. A life of loneliness, when even her father was always someone different, nothing constant. Watching the people you love die for you, being powerless, and having to shoulder the terrible burden of all the knowledge in the Universe? Any mortal would be driven crazy and perhaps it was the fact that she was not mortal that saved her, but how long would that last? How long until she couldn't take it anymore? And of course there was Rain's Other, Akemi. He had grown up in a cold, unforgiving world that had no love for him, even from his family. Beaten down with abuse and strung up on drugs for most his life, it couldn't have possibly been easy. Even Death could not erase the memories. His pain was as real as anyone else's, even if that life had been left behind him. They all suffered. It pained her heart to think of this. And here, they were only hurting each other more. She watched the girl go with a heavy heart. She'd have to make it up to her later. Someone else needed her a lot more right now. |
Homany didn't follow as Rain and Akemi headed past him and Tally down the hall. He'd witnessed the whole thing between her and Vanessa vicariously through their thoughts and had been quite flabbergasted. He pushed the whole thing from his mind though; there was no use in revealing his gifts to the world right this moment. Instead, he let Tally come forward, she was the more tender of the two. "Sarah Jane! What's wrong?" She said, rushing forward as if she hadn't witnessed the whole thing. She knelt beside the girl and looked up at Vanessa. "What happened? Why is she crying?" She would have asked Sarah Jane herself but didn't think the girl capable of concious thought or of being able to give an answer to the question herself. Without waiting for an answer she turned her attention back to Sarah Jane. She pulled the girl against her shoulder. In their mind, Homany replayed the whole scene in his and Tally's minds eye. Parts of it stood out but he didn't stop. Quite a sight isn't it? Can you believe we've been here less than 2 days? |
She stood there, tensing at the arrival of another person, but she immediately relaxed when the girl knelt down by Sarah Jane, obviously concerned. She jumped a little when the other addressed her in such a soft voice. It was strange how used to the screaming she felt; a softer voice seemed foreign. It was a welcome change. She knelt down next to her, sighing.
"It's a bit of a complicated matter. It can be explained later; right now I think we should get her into a room. She should probably lie down, or at least sit in a comfortable chair and relax. It's been very...emotionally stressful. I admit to being a cause of some of that stress as well," she said shamefully. She should have known better than to lose her cool the way she had. She wasn't a child, after all, and even with her temper, it wasn't right to lash out at Sarah Jane the way she did. Maybe she didn't understand her and Malakani. Maybe she had the facts wrong. Was it really worth it now, blowing up at her like that? She should have just walked away, cooled down, then gotten the story straight with Sarah Jane and her Other. Maybe if she had, none of this would have happened. She hadn't been here for more than an hour and already she was causing problems. She frowned, scolding herself for her carelessness. "Are you a friend of hers? Do you know where her room is? I think we should get her something warm to drink, to calm her nerves." |
"Understood. Completely. Actually, my Other is explaining things quite well." She blushed slightly as Vanessa knelt down. "Kind of lost your temper a bit their, eh Vanessa?" She gave the other girl a small smile then turned to Sarah Jane once again. "Alright. Up and at em'." She hitched an arm under the crying girls and heaved them both to their feet. Once standing, Tally kept one hand on Sarah Jane's elbow. She turned her attention to Vanessa. She offered one hand for a handshake.""I'm Tally...." Her eyes shifted, darkened to the blue that was Homany. "And I'm Homany. I'm a telepath so there is no need to introduce yourself." Their eyes shifted again, lightening this time. "Homany stop that! Be nice and let me handle this for once. You should be proud I'm actually talking to them..." At this, Tally's eyes popped open wide. "Oops... didn't mean to say that outloud." "Anyway! No, I'm not Sarah Jane's friend. At least not yet. I'm new here myself... my first day out of my room actually. You guys can come to mine if you like though. It's up the stairs and down the hall a bit. If that's to far though, Homany can always ask her where her room is silently. She may think the answer if we ask and Homany could pick up on it." Tally stopped talking, she knew that she was ranting. ((I need to go. I have to be up and on the road early tomorrow. From this point until I get back, I give express permission for Tally and Homany to be controlled by anyone. They are now NPC's until probably tomorrow night/evening. Feel free to drag them along where it's needed)) |
Vanessa took the hand and shook it, then shuddered involuntarily. She didn't like the idea of anyone else in her thoughts. It was crowded enough in there as it was. Mal gave a deep chuckle as if to emphasize this point.
'But still,' Vanessa reminded herself, 'they might not be able to control it. Don't jump to conclusions. Being hasty is what started this whole mess.' 'Yeah, you really stuck your foot in it, Nessy,' Malakani said, breaking her relative silence with a mocking laugh. 'Hush,' started Vanessa, irritated at Mal's use of pet names, 'I don't have time to deal with you right now. Please just leave me alone.' "My room is closer. Heh, but you probably already know that, right?" she asked, tapping her own head. Her expression faltered a moment as she picked up her luggage and started leading the way down the hall, her eye flicking from door to door for hers. "And...if I may, I would appreciate it if your Other, Homany, would try to stay out of my mind, if that's possible. I understand if it's an unconscious thing, but if you can prevent it, please do. My thoughts are very personal and I don't like people being able to spy on them." She managed a smile back at the girl following her, despite how heavy her heart felt from the past half hour. "Just a request. Anyways, here we are. You'll have to let me unpack some things, but I should be able to find the hot cocoa and a coffeemaker." She slipped the key into the lock and twisted; the door swung open easily. The room was fairly small, but she didn't need much. A bed, an armchair in the corner. A door that probably led to a little bathroom. A small kitchen area that was little more than a mini-fridge and a counter with a sink. She shuffled inside, setting her bags down out of the way and holding the door open for the girls. "Sit her down in the chair. If she needs to, we can move her to the bed. I'll start digging for the coffeemaker and some cocoa packets." She set to work, closing the door once they were inside. |
Sarah Jane and John Time flew by Sarah Jane, as voices and faces were blurred by reality. But one face was clearer than the rest. "Vanessa..." She sighed. "Thank you..." It was accepting, grateful and apologising. She clutched the sleek, shiny Sonic Pen in her hand. "Do you want to know... what I am?" The question came out of the blue, but she was burning to tell. "My planet, my home, my mother?" She whispered softly. "Astrid and the Doctor..." She whispered and a sad smile on her face. She pushed herself up in the arm chair. Her blue hair was matted and her strong eyes now looked weary and tired, like her years had caught up with her. She folded her legs and stared at the two. "My father is a Time Lord, from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. I lived there with my father for a while, the vast mountains with fields of lush red, topped with shining white snow. The second of the twin Suns would rise in the South and the mountains would shine, and the silver-leafed trees would look like a burning forest." She looked out the window, and could see it so clearly. Her home... her father's home. "My mother." She chuckled. "An alien that looked like an angel. The humans called them angels, and their true name is lost in history. My mother Astrid dreamt of travelling and was banished from her planet, and my father met her. They travelled for a while and got married and mother became pregnant. They settled down on Messaline, a beautiful planet with the sweetest of air." She sighed and watched a lone bird swooping around in the blue grey sky. "That boy, Akemi, he was wrong. My father would never do such a thing. And this," She held up her Sonic Pen, "Could never be used to torture." She looked sad. "It hurts me to think that people hate me, because I'm nor human or anything Earthly. I wish people could just understand that I share their suffering, and that I have seen so many things... I thank you, Vanessa, Malakani, Tally and Homany. For being so kind to me. And yet, you should be hostile towards me, I do not deserve this kindness." She searched in the darkness of her mind, searching for John. Leave me alone. Came the harsh reply to her probing mind. |
[[I got tired of writing 'Rain & Akemi' every five seconds. XD]]
Rain sat against the wall, thinking.. Akemi had never told her about his life, other than his father wasn't there for him and he wasn't in the best neighborhood. But drugs? She couldn't imagine Akemi doing drugs, not even getting a Motrin or Tylenol. She felt alone now, with nobody there to talk to her. But she would try to get him to come back. Akemi? Silence. Kemmy... Ake-chan.. No answer, and Rain was starting to get worried and mad at the same time. She walked back the short way to the haven, and when there straight up to her room. She passed a few rooms on the way. Don't you think you could have mistaken her father for another man? There's a lot of people who go by 'The Doctor' you know... She felt something that felt like rage flare up, and once she got to her room she laid down on her bed and cried. She would go see the man she saw when she first arrived, Eric, and discuss this problem and how to get him back. Maybe I should go eat a P A N C A K E. With lots of syrup on top, hmm? She felt something else and stopped crying, only to have it vanish again. "It's no use! He's never coming back!" She shouted at the wall, and resumed crying. To hell if anyone heard her. |
Evalign & Michaela Evie opened her eyes and saw she was on a boat and saw Derrick loading his mother and brother onto it. Running to them she heard Derricks brother Caleb's words and started crying.. "He lefts his family.." When Derrick ran off she ran after him, only to appear back at the house. Watching him grow quickly with years passing she watched him turn into a man. She cringed and turned away as he took the lives of the two people. Her cheeks were stained with tears and her eyes were red. Suddenly the world around her swirled into blackness as Evie's eyes fluttered open, they were a pale greyish purple and slowly becoming more vibrant as her spirit returned to her body. She took a deep breath as her lungs started to work again and turned her head to look at Derrick. She was still laying on the bed which her bady had limpy collapsed on just moments before. "Derrick..." she whispered softly. |
The small gathering had all but vanished, wandering off with smiles on their faces and bizarre gifts from afar in their hands. The last few that remained snapped their attention away from Tina, tuning in to what sounded like screams and bursts of energy for those who could feel that sort of phenomena. Bidding her farewell, now excited at the prospect of a fight in the first few days of their arrival, some rushed to find it. Others returned to their rooms, upset at the possibility of violence. Tina only leaned against the window's edge, her chin turned up to gaze up at the clouds floating lazily across the sky. Her blinks became less frequent, and she began to daydream...
'No' came the reply. The answer made the corners of her lips curl, her lips turning into a smile that almost became a grin in her own amusement. With one last glance into her dim reflection in the window, she tucked a wild curl back into place, pushing off from the edge of the wall. Each step she took resounded with a confident "clunk" of her boot heels, leading her closer and closer to a momentary goal: food. It was a miracle Tina didn't weigh over 20 stones with her appetite. She was a voracious eater, and avid about the quality of food. Commonly, she was found helping in the kitchens of the cafeteria, not out of kindness or the desire to help, but to share the love of a good meal with others in the Haven. Too often she had seen the mysterious tins of "meat" and canned vegetables, abhorring at the idea of anyone actually putting it in their mouth. Taking on the task of reformation, Tina had designed a budget for the cafeteria which allowed for fresh foods and two new handsomely-paid chefs to deliver the best they had to offer. On occasion, she liked to push their limits, along with the tastebuds of the others in the Haven. A habit not always looked forward to by those looking for a slice of pizza. This is why she now found herself meandering through the cafeteria, weaving her way past the few tables and chairs to the counter. The cooks were not available now, but she thought a quick cold sandwich wouldn't be too much trouble. Stepping into the back, she hung her bag on a hook, slipping on a clean white apron and pushing up the sleeves of her soft gray sweater. Her hands clasped together, pointer-fingers raised much like the imitation of a gun as she tapped her lower lip for a moment in thought. "Something mild..." And she was off, nearly scolding her hands with the hot water before collecting various ingredients from the refrigerators, taking small amounts of what she needed before putting it all away, humming along as she worked. "Why do birds suddenly appear..." She cooed. |
Vanessa had found the coffeemaker, but when the girl's voice broke the silence, she froze. She needed to say this, and Vanessa needed to hear. She stayed there, crouched, the little black and white machine caught in her hands, her ears listening, her eyes trained on the girl. Her heart went out to her, but she was so glad that she was talking now. The worst of it seemed to have passed and when she finished, Vanessa quickly went about setting up the coffee machine while talking in soothing tones to the blue-haired woman in the chair.
"I don't know anything about Time Lords, or Angels, except what's been told to me. Stories in the bible. But the bible was written by man. Man is flawed. We, of course, know that...." She was pouring water into the container, letting the machine heat it and let it drip into the glass pot beneath. She went about digging cups out of one of her bags, rinsing them out quickly in the sink as she continued to speak. "But your mother, whether she was divine as humans thought, was truly a wonderful person. I know this because of you. You share her genes. And despite enormous suffering and having to constantly fight the slings and arrows of those who don't understand you, you are still here. You still care, like you said. Even though the humans are flawed and hurtful, even though anger runs as thickly through their veins as blood, you still try." The water was ready and she poured it into the mug, tearing open a packet of cocoa mix and stirring it into the cup until the warm, chocolate scent filled her nostrils. She walked over to Sarah Jane and crouched in front of her, putting the cup in her hands, murmuring, "Drink it slowly, it's still hot." Her eyes met the girls and there was only kindness there. She couldn't believe she had been so callous with this poor creature. "You do not deserve our anger. I was wrong to lash out at you, and knowing what you've been through grieves my heart, the way it grieves to feel the pain of the earth. You may not be of this planet, but you belong here, as truly as the sky or the trees. You will belong here as long as you wish it. And I will make sure nobody tells you otherwise." One hand reached out and touched the girl's face softly. "You are not a monster. Those people...you couldn't save. You tried. Their deaths are not your fault. You are not the same as Malakani. She kills with the intent in her heart. You try to save them. You are not the same." She felt a twitch in her mind and knew Malakani was perking up to listen to what she was saying about her, but as soon as the words had left her lips, she felt her retreat again. This time, she reached out for her. 'Malakani....you know it's true.' 'I know it,' came her quiet reply. She sounded thoughtful and even...remorseful? 'It doesn't have to be this way, you know,' she offered, a tiny spark of hope glimmering in between her mind and Mal's. 'Stupid girl. Of course it doesn't. I choose it,' was her forceful reply. Vanessa was taken aback by the anger in Mal's voice and with a sigh she recognized the mocking laughter that followed. Deciding to tackle that later, she turned her attention back to Sarah Jane. "Stay here as long as you want, Sarah Jane. It's not much, but it's quiet, and you won't have to talk to anyone you don't want to. You can stay and rest, until you feel better. And then we can go together." Her smile was warm and for a moment, one could almost see the mother she might have been. |
When Vanessa had asked Homany to not read her thoughts, he had laughed with bountiful mirth. Of course he could stay out of her thoughts, but of course he wouldn't. It was for the sheer fact that she'd asked him not to that he would. Evie was another telepath, she could feel him in her mind so he would stay out of it. Vanessa was a different story. He could read her thoughts without any worry of her knowing. He'd just have to be careful not to let on that he was doing it. "Shhh... Sarah Jane you have no reason to talk as such. Everyone deserves some sort of kindness, even if most or even themselves think it unearned." Tally was finally in her element. When people were outgoing and cocky or otherwise overconfident, Tally became very reserved, but when they acted like they needing help, she was the one to see. She had a kind heart and always did what she could to help those that needed it; even if they didn't think they deserved it or didn't think they needed it. Those were the times she was most outgoing. "Sarah Jane, and you too John, you should both take care. People will be harsh and unkind to you here, but you mustn't let it get to you like this. If you do, you will always be sad. You mustn't do it alright? You've got to at least try and be happy, even if it means completely ignoring the jibes from others." You tell her Tally! Homany cheered from the back of their mind. Shush you, you aren't helping out much. Oh but I am! I'm giving you the details that you need to know! How do you think you knew the name of her other? Tally mentally rolled her eyes and tried to block out Homany's ranting. |
Sarah Jane and John Sarah Jane stared at the second girl. "The only thing left to me. My father, was blamed for the death of a boy, a human. Killing the race that he loved to protect so much? Your Other is a mind reader. He knows what is inside my head. I can see, the eruption of Vesuvius, World War 2, I can see Hiroshima, I can see Raxacoricofallapatorius being ruined by one family's greed. I can see if certain events are fixed in time. Or if they are in flux. This moment is in flux, anything could happen right now." She whispered, her eyes wide. "Do you really think that a little more prodding and poking will make me sadder? I protect this stinking world, because my father taught me. When I killed those people he took me in his arms and told me that it was wrong, but that he had done similar things, and he told me that instead of killing we always have a choice. I became a better person because of my father." She smiled at Vanessa. "I thank you. One day, I swear upon my life, this will all come back to you." She whispered back and nipped at the cup. It was a strong flavour but she liked it, and stared at the two girls. She took out her Sonic Pen, changed the setting. "The leaving gift from my father. A little gadget able to unlock locked doors, hack into computers and do all sorts of jiggerypockery with." John grumbled angrily, but watched. Sarah Jane's hearts sped up and she could hear the blood rushing through her body. |
Derrick & Noelani Derrick and Noey were pulled back to their body with a jump. They fell back to Evie's shoulder before getting up all the way and leaning on the wall. That.. Wasn't meant to be shown. Derrick.. I had no idea... Nobody ever does, Noe.. Not unless they see the real thing. Derrick shifted. "You okay, Evie?" He said, picking her up. "I hope we didn't scare you with leaving our body." Noey gasped. Derrick.. She left her body too. You didn't notice her there? What!? No, she couldn't have! You were too busy focusing on the past to realize what you have in the present, Derry. Derrick flinched. DO NOT call me that. Only Caleb has that right to call me that nickname. Noey flinched when he raised his tone, and nodded. Derrick looked back at Evie. He cleared his throat. "Evie.. I, uh.." He dropped his head. He didn't know how to get through this. Out of all the lies he'd made and people he'd killed.. Merely talking to a woman - no, his girlfriend - was harder. It's because you love her. This is why I believe John doesn't really love Evie. If he did, he'd be stammering all over the place like you. When you love someone, you don't just come out and say "I LOVE YOU!" or anything like that. It takes time... and it gets harder every day. Smartass. The smartass who loves you. As a brother or something, don't take that the wrong way. Tch. Whatever. Derrick smiled at her innerly, and then grabbed Evie and kissed her softly, holding her close to his chest. "I'm not sure if you still feel the same way now, Evie.. I don't know if you're scared or mad or even sad... I just don't.. want you to leave me." |
Evalign & Michaela Evie was slightly shocked when Derrick sat up abruptly, jumping a bit and hugging he knees to her chest in a slight fetal position. Silently she listened to the two talk, flinching as she heard the harsh mental yelling of Derrick. He loves me...she whispered innerly to herself... Michi nodded and hugged Evie. You mean alot to him Evie-bee..She said softly. With a smiled Evie replied. I know..thanks Michi-boo.. When Derrick cleared his thought Evie looked up, her eyes still slightly glazed over from the absence from her body. He didnt know what to say, and neither did she. Listening to Noeys inner words Evie started to tear, she tried to push them back, she knew Derrick hated seeing her cry, even if it was out of happiness. Yet once she felt Derrick lips against hers she closed her eyes and two tears slid down her cheeks. Wrapping an arm around him she held herself close. "I'll always feel the same.." She whispered against his chest. "And I'll never leave you.." she added, pulling herself closer. |
[[Soap Opera, much? XD]]
Derrick & Noelani Derrick smiled to himself and stroked her hair. "Cry if you need to, Evie.." With his thumb, he wiped her tears away. Noey laughed. Why are you laughing? Because you guys are so.. Okay, look. She sent him a picture of them sitting in the room, but switched it up a bit so that Evie was holding Derrick. Now imagine that. If someone walked in... I'm sorry, but that's hilarious to me. Wrong time, I know. Wow... You're quite the spaz, Noe. Derrick grinned and shook his head at her. Silly, silly girl. He sat Evie up and looked at her, his hand on her cheek. "I'm glad to know that, Evie. But I think we should go get some food." His stomach rumbled, and he blushed a bit, grinning and messing her hair up before moving to the bathroom and fixing his face. |
Evalign & Michaela Evie shooked her head. "No, Im fine." She wiped her eyes and smiled. "Yeah, Food sounds nice right about now.." She looked down, still seeing she wasnt wearing pants...wait..she wasnt wearing pants? Looking around she felt her pants under the covers. Did anything happen last night? I remember getting in bed with them on.. Michi giggled. Maybe Derrick likes you without them? She looked toward the bathroom. "Derrick, why are my pants under the covers?" She called to him as she went to her bag rummaging for fresh clothes. |
