A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words

.... or so the old addage goes. What sorts of stories and adventures could be inspired by an image, though? Where would we go to, who could we be? We all find inspiration in different places -- personal experience, music, literature. This is an RP where I want you to be inspired by images. Just like any RP, there is a starting point, some introduction of the world and the people that live in it. Then there is a conflict, and a struggle for resolution. Using the pictures that will be provided, what sort of world and characters, what sorts of conflicts and clever resolutions will be created? It's sort of an adventure for all of us.


How does this work?

There is no set genre for this RP. It may start in one genre and gradually make its way to another. All I ask is that you allow yourself to be inspired by the images I'll post. You can use the images to inspire your characters, to describe a setting or a memory, anything. Be creative and see how you can turn a picture into a muse. This will not simply be a collection of random writings inspired by the pictures -- it is an RP like any other: collaborative and cooperative. You may start with your own character or setting, but be open to contributions to your imagination from the pictures.


Rules

o1 First and foremost, obey the rules of the site. That means RP content cannot be above a PG-13 level. I allow for some cursing, but don't overdo it. If your character is prone to colorful language, find some creative way to get this across without dropping an F-bomb every third word. Some hints at sexuality and sensuality are okay, but know when to use discretion and draw the line. DO NOT "take it to PMs" if things get steamy. Or if you do, know that I don't wanna know about it, and I don't condone it. I don't want the banhammer for allowing above PG-13 level sexual content in my RP. The same goes for violence and drug use. Be mindful that we have some younger members whose parents may not want them knowing how to cook and use cocaine or how to disembowel their enemy. I'm not saying it should be avoided altogether, but try to understand when enough is enough.

o2 This is a literate RP. I reserve the right to deny anyone participation in the RP if I feel your skills are not up to the standard I'm looking for. If you aren't sure if you're a literate RPer or not, take a look at the "Labels" section of this post. I think they explain it rather well there.

o3 Be creative! Yes, I realize that what I'm going for is an RP whose events, characters, and settings are partially inspired by pictures, but that does not mean you should copy things exactly as they are portrayed in the image. The goal here is inspiration, not plagiarism. I will be rotating the images at random intervals to provide for fresh inspiration, and I will do my best to make sure they represent a variety of themes.

o4 Be active~~ One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone makes a post, and a good one at that, and then never comes back to continue to RP. I realize that real life takes precedence over internet matters, but please be considerate of the other players who may be waiting to interact with your character, or waiting on your character for the green light to do or say something. If you abandon your character, I reserve the right to do with them as I wish, and they may just get eaten by a yeti.

o5 Don't monopolize the thread. Just as it's important to be active, don't fill up five pages of the RP with just a conversation between your character and one other person's. I don't want to wake up in the morning, check the thread, and find that your character is a week ahead of everyone else's because you didn't have the patience or courtesy to wait for someone else to post as well.

o6 Do not godmod. Just don't do it. Don't assume that your character is super special awesome and just because they might actually be a god can automatically hit every target they aim for/kill anything they like. You don't know what sorts of capabilities another's character may possess. By the same token, unless your character is actually and logically immortal, your character is not immortal. They can get cuts and bruises and possibly even die.

o7 Don't annoy me or your fellow RPers. This can be generally avoided by being amicable and pleasant and not whining about unnecessary in-game (or out of game) drama. We don't want it; take your wankery elsewhere.

o8 If I create enough RPs around here, you'll probably notice that I'm not a huge fan of profiles or character sheets. They're long, they're boring, and, if you're a good RPer, unnecessary. Therefore, all that I ask for if you'd like to join is a PM stating your intent, and an included writing sample. The sample is a must. It can be from an RP here on Menewsha or another site, it can be a creative writing sample from something you've written, or it can be entirely new and made up off the top of your head. I just need something to go on in order to decide if you're literate or not. DO NOT LINK ME TO SOMETHING. POST THE SAMPLE IN THE PM.

Plot developments

I think this will be helpful once the RP is up and running, just to keep a running narrative of everything that's going on. I'll update this every few days or so as new and interesting things happen.
