Throwing on some new workclothes, the grumbling, bed-head Gavin never took a single glance in a mirror as he put on deodorant and brushed his teeth. Throughout it all, he complained about work and 'getting up so damn early to work for an ungrateful prick'
Meriel had just finished her shower when she stepped out, only to squeek in pain as she landed hard on her rear. By the end of the shower, she was wet enough to change back, and stepping in the now wet floor cinched the deal. Frowning, the young woman took the nearest towel and dried off her tail, wanting her legs back. |
Kiwi heard her fall and peeked in, worried.
"Hey, everything okay? Ah..." He noticed her tail. "Once you get dry enough, you should change back. Try to get one of the towels underneath you so you're not completely drenched in water. I've got some clothes out for you on the dresser once you're finished. Okay?" With that, he slipped the door shut again, to give her some privacy. |
Smiling as she saw Kiwi, Meriel nodded, beaming at him. "Yes Kiwi! Meriel will be out soon!"
|
While he waited for her, Kiwi finished getting ready, running a brush through his hair lazily and straightening out his clothing.
|
Meriel finally walked out of the bathroom, leaving the wet towels in the bathroom, forgetting this left her more than slightly exposed. Walking towards the dresser, she smiled happily at her own clothes set out. "Thank you Kiwi." the young female said happily, teal eyes shining in excitement.
|
Kiwi blinked when she walked out...completely nude...but, he brushed it off, smiling in response. "You're welcome. I hope Gavin gets up. Only three minutes to go before the bell rings..."
He paused. "We'd better get up there." |
Somehow or another, Gavin managed to get up and to his station before Kiwi. No one would ever know how, not even Gavin. The only sign of him rushing was a crooked tie and his mussy hair.
Meriel got dressed and waited for Kiwi's instructions, eager to please. She hoped his boss wouldn't be too mean to her. |
Kiwi leaned over, brush in hand, and brushed through her hair a few times to make it neat, smiling. "Okay...follow me--we'll see what we can do," he offered, starting to head above deck to the dining hall.
|
Meriel nodded, smiling as she followed the young man. She was curious what she would do today. Thinking, she made sure to go over the instructions in her head. Tell the boss she didn't speak much English if he asked.
|
Kiwi managed to shuffle both himself and Meriel into the dining hall just a few seconds before the breakfast bell rang. He sighed in relief, ambling over towards Gavin. He was glad he hadn't been late. It'd been awful for him the last time he was actually late.
|
His scowl turning into an instant grin, Gavin clapped his friend on the shoulder. "Whaddya know, will wonders never cease? I am the luckiest guy in the world to be dating the ever so lovely and kick ass Deckle, you're dating a mermaid, and I'm earlier to duty than you are for once!" Gavin whispered delightedly.
Seeing Gavin, Meriel smiled and waved, but otherwise kept close to Kiwi. |
"You're earlier because I was helping Meriel out," Kiwi informed him, lightly konking him on the head. "I brought her up to see if I can get her a job here. I don't know how well the boss will take to her, though...I still plan on using my 'she's my cousin from Russia and doesn't know a lot of English' backstory."
|
"Excuses excuses mate. I slept in, had some makeout time, dragged my sorry ass to my room, and still got here before you." Gavin snickered in defense, noogying him back. Looking at Meriel he nodded. "Good luck mate, hope it works out..just...we gotta make sure she doesn't touch water y'know?"
|
"Oh, well," Kiwi grumbled, playfully, before stretching. "She can touch water...she just can't get it all over her, or she'll change back. A place behind the food bar would be best for her. She wouldn't have to talk to people and there's barely any water-based materials back there."
|
"I see...wait...then how the hell is she suppossed to shower or bathe for her human self?" a curious Gavin asked, shutting up as the boss made himself present.
|
Kiwi shrugged a little, watching the boss carefully and keeping Meriel behind him. He would politely wait for him to ask. Despite the way he treated the male employees, he was aware that the boss made a big deal of being polite to females, even in the workplace. He hoped he treated Meriel well.
|
((I'm sooooooooo sorry for a lack of response! Been busy with school, and been kinda brain dead recently. T_T
I am back from my anime convention...now lets see if I can get back into a good ryhthem and get this thing started again.)) Gavin watched the captain approach the two with a focused and slightly anxious look of anticipation in his eyes. Good luck he thought to the two, hoping all went well. Looking over at Kiwi with a scowl, the man paused as he saw a shy looking Meriel behind him. "Who is this?! You cannot bring any playmates or girlfriends to work with you Kiwi. In any case, if that is someone's daughter, I will have you fired on the spot!" Meriel flinched at his tone and his stern glare at Kiwi. |
((That's okay! ^^ Let's try to get this in gear once more.))
Kiwi grinned, scratching his head. "This is my cousin," he lied, rather convincingly. "From Russia. She'd like to help out here, if possible. She doesn't know a whole lot of English, so maintenance behind the food bar would be best for her, where she doesn't have to do a whole lot of talking. I was thinking I could help her out, and show her what to do. Always beneficial to have an extra set of hands to help out, isn't it?" |
The boss frowned, glaring at Kiwi as he shook his head to silence him. "Enough. I will decide where she works, and she can tell me where she'd be most comfortable."
Going over to her, he spoke. "Name?" "M-Meriel." Blinking, the boss looked from Meriel to Kiwi. "She does not have a Russian accent at all." Deciding it wasn't important, he began to speak again. There was only one problem. He was speaking in Russian, asking her what her skills were. Needless to say, Meriel was startled and nervous. What was she to do?! She didn't recognize any of these words. |
Kiwi was fluent in some Russian, but not a lot. Luckily, he knew a bit about careers and skills, from what little he had learned from his real Russian cousins. Behind his back, he made tiny hand signals to her that his boss couldn't see. He made some kind of motion to go with food service, particularly at a buffet like this one.
|
Watching Kiwi, Meriel pointed to the buffet line and the food and signaled preparing it as Kiwi did. Unfortunately, she did not know the words, and as such, kept her mouth shut.
"You did not mention she was a selective mute or had selective hearing Kiwi..." |
"I'm sorry...she's really shy...she..."
Kiwi looked around, waiting on purpose for the area to be slightly clear before he leaned in to his boss, pointedly. "She has a right to be, you know. Around men, especially. She was...raped, recently. In the past two months. The man is still loose out there somewhere. She's been really quiet...and just doesn't want to talk..." Kiwi was skilled with lying only when it came to emergencies. When he tried to lie on a regular basis...well...that never went well. Unless he was lucky. |
Eyes widenening, the boss looked outraged.
Now, he was a strict man and disliked Kiwi. However, he despised any man low enough to force himself onto a woman. Nodding in understanding, the boss felt his expression soften at the girl. Poor thing! "Well then, Perhaps the food prep aisle would be allright for you miss? You come to me, or whoever you are comfortable with, if you need something. Work hard, and you shall do well on this ship." Meriel blinked, wondering what Kiwi was whispering about. Whatever he did, the boss seemed less...scary and mean than he did a few moments ago. |
"I'll make sure she knows what to do and everything. If there's a problem, I'll send her your way," Kiwi assured him, nodding. "At least count on me to do that much."
He patted Meriel's arm and directed her over towards the buffet area. "You'll help me back here today," he explained once they slid behind the counter. "All we have to do is replace the food trays when they get low." He motioned to the trays, filled with food. "The food is stored either in the ovens or the freezers behind us. The ovens are hot, so...I'll be handling them today. You can handle fetching things out of the freezer. The freezers have blue handles. You pull on the handle and pull out the entire tray, once something cold is low. Then, you take the empty tray out and replace it with the new one." Kiwi eyed her. "Do you understand?" |
"Very well. I reccommend no touching her if I were you, not after being touched by a scumbag." ordered the boss before walking off, giving Gavin his chores. Gavin could be heard complaining and whining.
"C-come on! I did that yesterday! I wasn't referring to you sir.....!" he whined, having been caught mocking the boss. Meriel nodded, listening to his instructions. Taking note of which items steamed and which didn't, the female noted the difference between the hot foods and cold foods. "Meriel understands. Meriel puts cold food out when trays run out of cold food?" |
