A pirate story in the past
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...indarpgirl.jpg
She looked something like this when she was younger, her name is Amelia, nickname Amy, but she told them that her name is Andrew. Captured at a very young age she learned the way of being a cabin boy, always looking out for her family, or someone to save her when she was out cleaning railings, or making sure that ropes were tied. Her nature is to be positive and helpful, so she feels no regret for helping them. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...a/pirates3.jpg This is what she looks like now, just about, except that she tries to hide her chest by tying it and she keeps a loose shirt on like the other pirates wear. She's now 17 and was able to hide it until than surprisingly. Quote:
---------- Amelia sat in her cabin, though small since she was a cabin boy, was cozy, and gave her some much needed privacy when no one knew that she was female. She bit her lip as she wrapped a bandage around her chest pinning it down as much as she could. Someone was going to find out very soon that she was not male. She slid the white pirate shirt over her head and popped her arms out the side. perfect. She ran a hand through her hair mussing it up and put her tri-corner hat on it and headed up to the deck. She figured she could have some fun climbing the ropes before she had to get to work cleaning. |
Nicki was up at the wheel leaning over a map spread on the thick rail. His father's heavy coat hung loosely off his shoulders and every few minutes he had to pause his work to pull it back up. He was tracing a new route to an island his father had been working on finding for years. Of course no one knew where it really was, and they often got lost, but that was the whole fun of it. Nicki definitely wasn't planning on sitting around for an expensive ship to raid.
Nicki heard a scuffling on the ropes above him and looked up to see Andrew climbing toward the crows nest. "Heyo, Andrew! Tha's not yer place this mornin'!" he shouted. |
When Nicki called up to her she cringed, failure one, not noticing who else was on deck. failure two, it was the captain calling at her. She scratched the back of her head holding on by one hand and swung forward landing on her feet next to him. "Sorry captain Nicki, I'as just looking around before i got ta ma duties sir." She gave a mock salute. Sure she had been friends with him when he hung out with her before, but now he was captain and it seemed a little bit awkward. Plus, it was great fun to mess around with him for being a captain.
|
Nicki smiled and tapped her lightly on the nose. "Ya can relax later. Cook has a nasty mess in ta galley, one o' the crew gotta bad stomach offa ta stew. Get yer rear down there an' help," he finished with a wave of his hand. The coat fell off his shoulder again and he quickly pulled it back up before turning his focus back to the map. Gone were the days that Nicki and Andrew would be climbing the ropes to annoy the hell out of the lookout in the crows nest. Sometimes he wondered if he should be captain. But if not him, then who? The rest of the crew was far too lazy to trust with the ship. Andrew might've been a reasonable choice, if not for his skittish behavior whenever someone got too close. Andrew used to be full of confidence and vigor, but after his 17th birthday he turned began to turn skittish. It made Nicki suspicious that one of the crew might be harrassing Andrew.
|
"Ye'sir." Inwards she groaned, when a member of the crew got sick, was her least favorite job on the entire ship. It really was the most disgusting chore ever. She thought this as she took of towards the galley. Quite a bit of it was in a run knowing that she had to get there fast because no one else would like it. The smell was horrible every time.
As she entered the galley her stomach agreed with her thoughts and she opened her mouth to breath through it instead of her nose. "Hey Cook! " She called giving a wave as she went to the distinct source of the smell. Popping into a nearby closet she grabbed a bucket and a cloth that she figured would cover the job. Heading into the kitchen she filled the bucket up with water and moved back and got on her knees to clean. Her stomach lurched slightly but she had learned how to hold it all. |
As Nicki watched Andrew run off, his expression turned curious. The young man seemed to be maturing backwards with every year. Even now his legs were much more slim and shapely beneath the ragged trousers than they had been the year before. That round little rear of his was also quite outstanding, swinging back and forth like that....
Nicki suddenly shook his head and tore his eyes away, his face furious. What the hell was wrong with him?! Thinking such about another man, it wasn't like him at all. Nicki huffed and focused back on the map, shoving any thought of Andrew from his mind. ------------------ The cook, Barnaby, merely grunted in reply at Andrew's welcome before continuing to stir whatever was in the huge pot in front of him. He was a big, square man with a wild beard and leathery skin. He didn't talk much, even when Nicki addressed him, so it was no surprise he wouldn't give much attention to Andrew. Another man did though, and that was Jozo, the sleazy bos'n of the ship who always seemed to appear whenever Andrew was in an unfortunate situation. This was mostly due to his smugness about his "educated speech," which he liked to show off to anyone who would listen. "Well, well, what an unfortunate predicament we have here. Poor little cabin boy scrubbing up vomit," Jozo said with a chuckle as he walked in down the stairs into the galley. |
Andrew rolled her eyes and continued scrubbing as Jozo came in. She was well accustomed to his taunts and badgering. "Would ya like ter help?" she said turning and smiling up at him, holding the cloth towards him. It was covered with vomit, she needed to rinse the rag of and would have been about to if he hadn't have shown up. Normally she wouldn't do that but she had found she was really moody lately, and him showing off his 'superb' speech annoyed her. She could talk just like him is she wasn't constantly pretending to be a pirate.
|
Jozo stepped back with his hands held up. "No way, that's your work, not mine." He began to chuckle again but then his eyes were drawn immediately to her chest. He raised one eyebrow. "What sort of critter you keeping in there?"
|
(-reads all the errors in my last message- wow, when you use school computers, sentences fail. O.o )
"Keepin' where?" She stared at him as if nothing was wrong for a second before turning to rinse out the rag, "We'll if ya aren't goin' to help..." She let the end of that sentence hang as she wrinkled her nose and set back to work. 'Andrew' didn't like the question about her chest and she wasn't sure how to answer it so she figured the best choice was to just pretend he hadn't asked her anything or avoid the question. |
{XD}
Jozo snorted and crouched down next to her. The cook looked over from his station, his interest peaked as well. "Something you want to tell us, laddie?" he sneered. He wouldn't back down now that he was curious, and Jozo was an extremely persistant man, no matter the scuffles it might get him in. He wiggled his hand closer along the wet floor. |
'Andrew' shook her head, "Na, I ain't got nothing to tell, Jozo. I'm just cleaning up the puke. I already offered to let you help but ya turned that down." She wiggled her nose seeing hsi hand come closer, it was hard to just breath through the mouth, and she was nervous at the moment. She scrubbed a little harder trying to get it done faster. How in the world can I divert his attention, he's such a persistant jerk! Amelia was screaming in her head that she was going to get found out, she'd kept it hidden for so long ,Why now! Why while I'm covered in puke that i'm cleaning up!
|
Just as Jozo had lifted his hand toward the front of her shirt, the captain's whistle sounded from above. "Jozo! Hank! Daggan! Up on deck, now!" Nicki yelled. Jozo grumbled and stood, turning to run back up the stairs. With him gone the atmosphere seemed a little less tense, but the cook was still staring at her with narrowed eyes.
|
Andrew let out a sigh of relief as Jozo took off her shoulders visibly relaxing and she bit her lip remembering that the cook was still standing there. She turned up lifting the bucket having finished cleaning. "All done, do you need anything else while I'm down here cook?" She always called him cook despite knowing that his name was Barnaby because he didn't talk much and that unnerved her, so she figured staying on a sort of formal talk would be the smart idea. She stood there holding the bucket with both hands for a minute, the rag hanging over the edge of it to wait for an answer.
|
Barnaby nodded, though the look in eyes didn't change a bit. From up above came the sound of a group of hurried footsteps, all heading toward Nicki's station.
|
Andrew nodded, "I'll be back later than. Need to get rid of this. " She moved the bucket slightly and than headed for the deck where she would get rid of the contaminated water overboard. It wasn't like there was any running water on board. She moved her way back up avoiding the three pirates running to their captain's call. Her eyes fell on them as they gathered to get their orders. By the looks of it Nicki had most likely figured out his next course to take for finding the Island. She nodded in their direction heaving the bucket up to dump the contents over the rail.
There, that's the completion of that job. She sighed looking up at the position of the sun, no time to swing around on the ropes now, she had to get her duties completed. (is that a yes or a no? o.O) |
{yes}
Nicki spotted Andrew throwing the stuff over the rail and called out to her. "Heyo, Andrew! Get back down below an' tell Barnaby ta double ta rations!" He gestured toward the horizon, where the form of a ship could be seen heading for them. The flag of the ship was of Captain Horst, an ally from Germany. Captain Horst agreed to continue to supply them with weapons even after the death of Nicki's father, a deal that wasn't often made between pirates. |
"Aye captain!" Andrew called back before rushing back below deck to the galley, "Hey cook, captain said ta double ta rations. What else did ya need?" She wanted to get the work done around the ship, maybe get up to see the exchange between the two ships. See if there was any news of people looking for her.
|
Barnaby walked over to a giant pantry and took out several armfuls of vegetables to lay out on on empty counter. Then he got out a large knife and held it out to her. He wanted her to chop all the vegetables.
|
Andrew nodded setting the bucket down on the ground, she'd need it later, and took the knife that Barnaby offered to her. Taking it gingerly in her hand at first, because sometimes the knifes she was handed weighed differently she started to cut the vegetables up. Slowly at first but faster as she got into the thicker parts of them. It was a simple enough task, and she didn't mind helping anyways.
She hummed a tune in her head that she remembered, but couldn't remember who had sung it to her, it was that long ago. Slicing through the green stalks of some kind, she wasn't sure what exactly it was, she was nearing the end of that group. There was some carrots she hadn't cut though yet. |
"Having trouble keeping those wraps in place?" Barnaby asked, his eye's never moving from the pot in front of him. He raised the spoon to taste it and then reached up above for the dried fish.
|
If Amelia had been drinking or eating anything she would have choked, instead she only dropped the knife in surprise. Bad move, cover it, see if he's just implying to get me to say something. She gave a nervous laugh instead, "What wraps cook?" What she was really thinking was, He knows! How long as he known? I'm in so much trouble. She picked the knife up carefully pricking the tip of her finger as if that was why she had dropped it. Making sure that he didn't see. With her other hand she grabbed a cloth that was nearby which she ripped a piece from and wrapped around her finger.
"Almost done!" She said brightly, slicing the last of the carrots. |
"Keep far from Jozo fer now on," Barnaby replied. He stepped over to gather up the chopped vegetables, throwing armfuls of them into the pot. He then added a couple handfuls of dried fish and started stirring again. From up above they could hear the other ship coming closer; the two crews were yelling back and forth in greeting.
|
"I'll try..." She looked down at the table she had been cutting on thinking to herself, It is getting to obvious what I actually am. I'm going to need to figure out something. "Er, I mean yes Barnaby, I will." She blinked at herself in surprise, she had actually used his name.
Turning her head to listen to the crews above she wondered if it would be a good idea to go up there after all. "'nethin else? Else I'm off to clean the cabins fer later." |
Barnaby shook his head. "Don' let Horst gedda good look at ya either. Man's gotta a sharp eye," he warned. He then moved to let her pass.
|
She gulped, nodding her thanks in passing. Time to work and think... She headed out of the galley and down to the cabins, bucket with water and rag in tow. She'd probably be cleaning the floor and straightening up a bit. Not that any of them minded that the place was a mess. It was there stuff in the cabins, but in Amelia's opinion, it didn't have to be, that much of a mess.
She opened the door cautiously, just incase anyone was sleeping and went in. She'd start on the far end, wasn't usually cleaned because most people slept by the door to get out quicker if the captain called. |
