"Oh- really? That's pretty neat, I guess. Never heard of that one before." She giggled a bit, smiling to him easily. "Must come in handy though for work, right? In this case, it just proves that."
"You keep referring to what I do as work," he said looking at her.
"Is this not at all a job?" She looked at him curiously. "It's a fun job, but in a way, it's still a type of job as you are working to achieve a goal, right?"
"A goal? Oh no, no I have no goal. I don't go anyway in particular, and I certainly don't go looking for danger. It's all just coincidental, well...mostly coincidental. You see I'm just a traveler. That's all I ever do is travel, place to place, time to time. No one charged me with a task and I'm certainly not required to do any of this," he said as the walked through the front garden.
"But how do you afford food then and the like?" She felt her head move to her shoulder a bit more, eyes still glazed with the same curiosity. "I don't know much about travelers, really, though I had a friend who had gotten into it as a way of looking for work in his field of archaeology. But again, it had to do with work, so this isn't my general type of understanding."
"I don't afford anything. I haven't got any money, you have to remember," he said lowering his voice to a whisper," I'm not a human, I'm a time lord." He looked at the pretty fountain for a second and looked back to her. "Besides I've told you the Tardis has insane amounts of food inside it, so it's never a problem."
"But how'd you get it then?" She looked to him still, smiling a childish smile of sorts. Miyu was known even in her own time and place for her insanely large curiosity that never seemed to go away.
"How'd I get what? The food? The Tardis is a type 40, it came with all the food freshly stocked. I don't know how it just always keeps is freshly stocked, so I never worry about it.
"That must be pretty convenient. I'm envious it can do such a thing." She giggled a bit, smiling to him easily. It was true, though- she'd never heard of such a thing, so the idea was foreign to her. Though it was interesting nonetheless. "I'm happy- I just learned something new again!"
"See? The Professor does teach sometimes. It's not all gallivanting into the arms of danger," he laughed. They approached a large wooden door with a guard standing next to it. The Professor flashed the paper again and the guard opened the door.
Laughter escaped her in response. "I'm assuming you either really enjoy teaching or you don't even notice you do it sometimes then, if that isn't at all work." Giggling more, she kept up with him happily, following him as he'd gotten through the door and the like. "Thanks for letting me tag along by the way."
"Oh of course! Couldn't just leave you back there could I? You'd have missed out on so much. Like this piece of art right here," he said indicating a vase to their right. "Got to love early ninth century pottery," he said looking at it.
"It is really well made," She noted slightly, smiling. "You'd never see something like this except in a book picture- it's much more interesting up close when you know there were not edits made to what it's supposed to look like, no?" She smiled, not really getting into much else.
"Precisely, now I believe we've been announced by now I believe it is time to meet the Lord of this land don't you?" he asked. The scarecrows were still in the back of his mind. Curious creatures indeed.
"Land and time," Miyu corrected. "Even the strongest of lords will pass eventually, and a new will rise to take the place, no? Or am I wrong?"
"Indeed you are right, but for courtesy sake let's not bring that up shall we?" the Professor said as they approached the throne room. They entered upon being announced. The Professor approached the Lord and knelt before him. He looked up momentarily and pulled Miyu down into a kneel as well. "Arise," the lord said. They both stood.
"Lord Geoffry, I am the Professor and this is my assistant, Miyu. We are but travelers passing by these lands," the Professor smiled. "A professor? A professor of what, pray tell?" "Most things and some more," the Professor responded. "What brings you to my court, Professor?" "As I say we are mere travelers but we did notice your problem with crops. We believe we can assist with your problem," the Professor explained. "You can solve our problem?" the Lord gasped. "Possibly, I will need more information of course," the Professor replied. "Good sir, if you could dispell the plauge that has befallen our fields I would be in your debt," Lord Geoffry said. "Then I shall do my best, sir. I will need to ask a few questions," the Professor requested. "Of course," the Lord pointed at a soldier, "you there, take them to the guest suit. I shall be with you shortly," the Lord said. "I thank you good sir," the Professor said bowing |
Miyu smiled as she waited quietly, letting the Professor do the talking and just acting more as a person with little to say, since at that point she was. Upon the end of the conversation, when one was ordered to send them to a guest quarters, she curtsied in response as a way of showing thanks. "Thank you very much, sir." She smiled easily to the Lord, seemingly not phased by much of anything at that point.
((Sorry, I spaced out about posting ><))
The Professor looked around the guest quarters they were led to. "It's nice. Not as nice as Henry the 5ths but still nice for this time period. The professor lay on the sofa. "Might as well rest while we wait for the Lord to show up. |
Miyu nodded quietly, smiling simply. She leaned against a nearby wall, not really interested in sitting, and looked around the room and the intricate craftsmanship put into every crevice of it. "People really work hard with aesthetics don't they these days?"
"They did," the Professor corrected, "Remember this is past for you and me." He looked around the room at the decor.
"It is the past to us," Miyu noted. "But right now it's the present. So, to treat it like such would make more sense, wouldn't it?"
"If we were discussing situational topics with people in this era of course, even with each other, but this architecture and art isn't present work, not to you and certainly not to me," the Professor said. He looked at the bowl of fruit in front of sofa were he lay. He picked up an apple from the bowl. He bit into it. "Mmm, I love apples," he said.
"I like apples too," Miyu noted softly with a giggle, walking to the bowl. "But I think I'm more interested in the banana I see here..." Picking the banana up, she picked off the peel carefully and bit it. "Yum." She looked over at him. "Is your apple good?"
He looked down at it, "Apple's an apple. They all taste good," he said. He sat up suddenly, "I think I hear some one coming this way, it might be Geoffry coming to talk to us."
((I'll post the conversation between them later, I feel pretty dead today x.x)) |
She giggled. "Not all. There are different kinds of apples and stuff- sometimes they might not be good if it's a kind you aren't fond of." Instead of pushing the subject, though, she shrugged it off and finished her banana, throwing the peel in a nearby basket that seemed to hold a bit of waste. She looked to the Professor soon after. "Oh? That was fast."
