In a ordinary looking school, the light blue hallways were crowded with students who were all talking to their friends or getting things from the lockers that lined the hallways. They were all eager and nervous since it would be the start of a new school year. When the bell rang for the start of classes, most students bid their farewells to their friends to get to their classes on time. One of the classes, was the science class. It was a pretty nice room, clean and spacious with a few rows of lab tables around the edges of the classroom. Desks that were soon to be filled in the center of the room, and of course, the teachers desk in the front of the room. The desk contained a couple of papers, a name plate that read Damien Grey in black letters, and a couple of other common things one would find sitting on top of a teachers desk. The door was a couple of feet to the left of the desk.
The teacher himself was standing in front of the desk and near the door. At 5'11" he was pretty average in height. He had dark green eyes and jet black hair that he had grown out on the left side so a piece of hair was longer than the rest what was also slightly surprising for a teacher to have was the single earring he wore on his right ear. It was in the shape of a fang., as for his clothing, it was a simple suit that all the others wore. He was handing out a piece of paper, the syllabus for the class, to each student that was coming through the door with a small smile on his face, of course not showing his teeth out of habit. Damien was actually quite eager to see what this year would bring. It would be his second year of teaching, and last year was pretty fun.

There was one girl, unlike most students, that didn't spend time with her friends when she entered the building. Linear stood at about two inches over five feet, an average height for a girl her age. Her wheat-colored hair was kept long, held together in twin pigtails with a good bunch of it kept outside the two purple bows, all of it sweeping down to her lower back. Unlike a lot of the girls, she wore clothes that may make one wonder if she had legs at all, as the bottom of her white dress, which was lined with a purple box pattern, didn't end until around her ankles, and her sleeves were just as long with a similar pattern, just barely letting her fingertips show.
Aquamarine eyes gazed around the classroom before she saw the teacher that was handing out the class syllabus. Of course, thanks to Linear's luck (or lack thereof), she'd gotten a schedule that started her day with one of her weakest classes. Science. Nodding to the man, who seemed to be a rather young teacher compared to the one she'd had last year, she accepted the syllabus and found a seat on the far side of the room near the window. Sitting down, she sighed. She hated the first day of school due to a common thing she'd noticed. Every year, the first day of school involved a lot of ice-breakers.

Damien saw one of the girls that took the syllabus nod, so he nodded in return with a small friendly look in his eyes. As soon as the last of the students came through the door, he looked around the hallway to make sure none were left outside. Soon enough, the bell rang again, signaling that classes would start now, he closed the door and calmly walked back to the front of his desk, where he leaned back a little and stared at the new students. "Welcome to Science class. My name's Damien Grey, pleasure to be teaching you this year. Now, I don't want any of the Mr. Grey thing. Damien or Mr. Damien is fine." he said simply. He never was one for too many formalities, and frankly, sometimes kids tended to make a couple of jokes about his last name. Not that it lasted long. He knew how to make them stop. If he cared enough to even bother. It was all in good fun sometimes
Looking around the many students, he tilted his head and gave a small smirk, "You may sit anywhere you want. There won't be any seating charts since, if you want to be distracted and talk with your friends instead of learning, fine by me. It's your grade that gets affected, not mine." he stated bluntly. "If you insist though, to interrupt the class, you shall be placed in a different seat. You get two warnings before I get serious. Third time, well... " he trailed off, letting the kids make of that as they wanted. He always was one to like these introductions. Now there were a couple of kids who looked slightly taken aback, as well as some curious looks. He chuckled after a second before nodding at the paper. "In your hands, is the syllabus. Read it, memorize, get it signed by your parent or guardian. It has the basics, and some of the projects you'll be doing. How you'll get graded and all that good stuff."

A light sigh escaped Linear's lips upon the last thing Damien had said. Get it signed... Her father wasn't even home at the time- just her luck, of course. As she scribbled down on a piece of paper the situation, she raised her hand quietly, looking to him. She then looked back at the note to check her handwriting, reading it to herself silently.
What do we do if we cannot get it signed due to lack of a guardian at home? Mister Lamari is away on a business trip... I cannot get him to sign it if he is overseas. Is it allowed to be late? Or should I fax it to him?

Damien saw that a girls hand went up after he spoke. Looking over at the girl, he noticed it was the girl in the dress who had nodded at him earlier. He tilted his head and swiftly went over to her desk to see what the problem was. Noticing she had written something down on paper, he glanced at it, managing to read it upside down even as she read over it. "Ah, if your guardian or parent isn't home, don't worry about it and give it to me when he's back. And you are..?" he asked, wondering if Mr. Lamari was her father, or just a guardian. He had honestly found himself slightly surprised, since most students just take it home and don't even ask their parents. Usually they just forge signatures. he thought to himself. There was also the fact that she wrote the question down, instead of actually asking. Maybe she was mute or incredibly shy? He wasn't sure. But, there was the rest of the year to figure that out.

Hearing his answer, she nodded to show she understood. Upon his secondary question as to who she was, however, she wrote her name, which was hyphenated at the end. Linear did usually go by the same last name as her caretaker, however she still wanted to keep close to her origins, thus she hyphenated her last names to make sure they were separated but clearly together. Written on the paper, she looked up at it, tapping on the name: Linear Carina-Lamari.

Damien read the name and nodded. He'll have to keep that in mind to mark it down somewhere. He would just have to watch out for her, since she couldn't really raise her voice to call on him. It was a different name, that was for sure. "Alright then Linear. I'll make a note to remind myself that you'll just have the syllabus in late. Anything else you need help with?" He asked, looking at her with a small smile.

Linear thought on his question for a moment- there wasn't anything else, was there? She felt as though she was forgetting something, but shook it off and smiled weakly to him, her head nodding to show she was fine (or at least, she hoped that it would show that). Writing down to confirm that she was fine, she looked around the room anxiously, awaiting the end of the class to go to the next one.

He nodded once again and straightened back up. "Gew-- Good." he said, having corrected himself on the silly word. He'd gotten in trouble last year for saying 'Gewd' since it seemed like a childish and non professional word. Offering her one last smile once he was sure she didn't need anything, he went back to the front and looked at the other students, who had all by this time started talking to their neighbors. Glancing at the clock, he noticed that there was still some time to do what he had planned. "Alright, Now that you know what's expected of you, we'll start with, not introductions and the like, since I dare-say you'll have Plenty of that from your next classes." At this, there was a collective sigh of relief. He just shook his head before smirking. "Now now kiddies. Settle down. As I was saying.. You'll have to make sure you get your science book from the library, since you'll be having homework tomorrow. You'll need a binder, a notebook for your notes and a separate notebook for writing down lab assignments and the like. It'll all in the syllabus. Today, is a free day, do whatever you want, so long as you don't burn down or harm the room." he stated and then after pausing he chuckled, "I did that last year, turns out, they Don't want the room harmed, even if it is a science class." he added jokingly, but also slightly serious.
Sitting down he took the roll sheet and counted how many students were here, and how many were absent. After this, he went and called out the names in alphabetical order, (all saying 'here' or 'present' when they heard their names.) and marking the ones that weren't there. He tried memorizing their faces as well, to make it easier. When he came across Linear's name, he looked up at the girl and nodded, not sure if she'd say 'Here' or not. Either way, he knew she was there.

Hearing that there was no classwork, Linear let out a soft sigh of relief to herself. No work meant no major trouble first thing in the morning from having no idea what she was doing, after all. She ripped a sheet of paper off of her notepad to write to herself what she had to do that day. Go to the library to get science book. Alright. Oh- I almost forgot to work on the shopping list. I won't be able to make curry if I don't get some ingredients from the store...
She continued on this tangent internally for a good amount of time, noting that the bell rang when it seemed like she was barely halfway done. Standing up, she walked over to the teach and bowed her head in a polite, courteous manner before going to her next few classes. Most of them went on the same way, luckily, so she did manage to finish what she needed. After a good chunk of time, she looked over her schedule- her next class, at that point, was music. Something she truly enjoyed.

The music room was in a far side of the school, down the hallway. It was a double door room, and one of the doors was held open by a door stopper. There were a couple of students already heading to the room. The inside of the room was massive. There was half the room lined up in a semi circle with chairs and music stands in front of them. There was a slightly raised platform in the middle of the semi circle that held a single music stand where the instructor was standing. The teacher, was familiar face. Damien was currently putting away a couple of music sheets from his last class in a folder. The other half of the room had three steps, with a couple of feet in between the steps, making it an elevated platform.
There, there were bells and marimbas, vibes, a bass drum, and a row of white lockers of various sizes to hold any instrument a student had. There was also another set of double doors that was currently closed to the left of the 'stage'.On the left corner of the room, were three doors. Two of them had windows to see through the doors. One of them had a drawer or two, and a couple of instruments in there. the second was the teachers office, the third was unknown for the moment. The students there, weren't too many. Roughly around twenty kids, and a little more than half of them were males for some reason. The room held a sort of different atmosphere than some of the other classes as well, something that didn't seem to bother Damien.

Linear entered the room and sat down quietly in a chair at the far back of the classroom. She'd recognized the face in the center of the room, but decided against pointing it out in any way that was possible. Instead, she did what a few other students were doing- practicing and tuning their instruments.
Digging out the small blue and white ceramic item out of her pocket, she covered two bottom holes and then began to choose some on top to cover as well. Then, she brought the mouthpiece to her lips, blowing into it gently to let the wind-like sound come out from the openings still noticeable. After the breath, she took her lips away to let out a sigh. It sounded off somehow to her- was she not trying properly?

Damien looked up at the people tuning their instruments and noticed Linear sitting at the end of the chairs, practicing her own instrument. He looked a little surprised since he hadn't expected her to be in two of his classes. But it wasn't a bother. Looking around, he noticed that he had a lot of returning students, and for that he chuckled. Soon as the bell rang, he walked over to close the door once again. After letting them tune their instruments, he passed down the rows a stack of note cards as he walked back to the little podium. "Hello there kiddies. What I just passed out is, obviously a note card. On there I want you all to write down your name, year, what instrument you play and how long you've played/been interested in music. This'll help me assess what level you're at and allow me to work with you better. I am also going to ask you to play a small piece, of any choice to see, again, where you're at." he said.

Linear let out a soft sigh of relief- writing was fine. She took the card and looked at it carefully, writing down the information as needed. Linear Carina-Lamari, third year in high school. I have been playing ocarina since roughly age five- about eleven or twelve years, now? Interested in music since age two or three. She blushed slightly, and then walked over to hand it in. She was nervous- she found it hard to believe how long she'd loved music and how long she'd been playing such a lesser known instrument. But, it was her family talent.

Damien was looking around and taking attendance when he saw Linear come up. He looked slightly amused, since the kids always passed their cards down the row to prevent a lot of people standing and moving. Since she was in the last row alone, it was alright. He wouldn't embarrass her. "Thank you." he said cheerfully before reading the card. He blinked in surprise. "You can play an ocarina?" he asked, since he hadn't really met anyone who played it before. Honestly, he loved the sound of it, but he wasn't sure what he could teach her since he hadn't taught anyone with it before. But now there was someone here who had played it for a very long time.

She nodded quietly, smiling to him as she wrote down a response on a nearby paper, which she had checked to make sure it was safe to use- it was just an ordinary piece of notebook paper with nothing on it. Scribbling down she noted, My father was a musician. Mr. Lamari says that's why I can play it- because it's a family trait.

He quickly read what she had written and seemed impressed. "Wow. It's rare to have someone play it. Only time I've seen someone use anything similar to an ocarina in real life, it was a carrorina." he said with a small smile. It was a carrot made to play similar to a ocarina. The carrot did actually play, though it would probably have rotted by now. "I don't have any sheet music for ocarinas, so I'm going to have go out and get some." he said, wondering what kind she might be able to play, or if there were any that she didn't already know.

She scribbled down on the paper again. I learn better by ear, but if you can just tell me the song and the notes needed generally, I can figure something out on my own if you need me to. Though don't expect anything great. Again, me and sheet music usually don't mesh. Of course it was true, being that having a good ear was the reason her father was able to play ocarina in the first place. However, she had to note it anyway, hiding any embarrassment. Years of music classes and she never learned music theory.

He smirked a little and nodded. "Fair enough, I used to learn by ear better as well. Still do. Though, I'll try and teach you how to read it as well." he offered. While it got him by more often than not, it was still vital to know how to read the music. The fact that she's been learning music so long and still struggled, from what he could understand, was a tab bit surprising, but not unheard of. "How much do you know of reading notes and the like?" he asked.

As always, her hand was scribbling. However, she dropped her pen, causing her to jump when it fell to the ground. When she calmed herself, she bent down using her knees primarily, lifting the pen and getting up to write again. I know the note meanings, but I don't understand the staff at all. Too confusing. And all those things that aren't notes...

He noticed that she seemed a bit jumpy when she dropped the pen. Though he didn't really point it out as he read what she had written. So staff and the rest of the things. Maybe he could help her after all. "I think I might be able to help. You mean the sharps and flats and stuff? And, finding the notes on the staff?" he asked. He personally had his own method of teaching them. Hopefully he'd be able to help her.

Rather then saying any word or writing any either, she responded simply by nodding her head. After she felt basically done with the conversation, she waved lightly to show she was walking away, then head to the far end of the room to an empty seat, sitting and taking the ceramic instrument back to her lips to play what she considered a soothing, natural melody.
