Scarlett stepped onto the campus and sighed softly. The school had recently became integrated and she could sense the foul darkness of demons corsing through the school. Shuddering, she walked up to the main building with her schedule in her hand. She was wearing blue jeans that hung low on her hips, a pink spaghetti strap top with a sheer white button down blouse over it.

There was complete tension throughout the school between the races and it made Scarlett seeth. Her first class was algebra and she couldn't wait to see what abominations were invading her classroom. The school was huge, newly built for the special needs of housing both angels and demons.

Zach grumbled to himself. Why'd we even integrate in the first place? Like we needed to go to an angel's school! The demon school was fine! So what if the campus was all covered with graffitti? he sighed.

He was already beginning to loathe the angry stares from the angels that had been going here long before this whole "Angel and demon integration" crap had come along. Neither the angels nor the demons were happy about it, Zach was already suspicious as to how they intended to make this work out.

First class, Algebra... he said, leading himself to the Algebra room, before stopping cold. All angels in the class?! You've gotta be kidding me.. Who's the wise guy- his thoughts were disrupted by all the spiteful stares coming in his direction. He shuddered, a bad chill having run down his spine.

Hell's got nothing on this place..

Scarlett walked past her classroom a few times, glancing in to see how many demons there were. So far it was mostly angels, obviously demons weren't keen on being on time. She sighed and walked in, being greeted by her friends. She did see that one demon was in the room. She sighed and rolled her eyes gently, taking her seat amongst her friends. Regretably it was close to where the demon boy had sat.

The bell rang just after a few more students trailed in, most being demons over angels. Well this is going to be fun... she thought sarcastically as their teacher walked in to begin class.

The teacher, Zach had to admit, was hot. For an angel. he caught himself, scoffing a bit. He could tell a few other of the male demons were thinking the same thing while the females were either oogling the males or doing something seductive like they usually do. Nothing new there...

The lesson for today was boring, as math classes tend to be, and Zach was simply not paying attention and preferred to joke amongst his friends rather than work, much to the anger of the teacher.

We'll just make them see that integration was a stupid idea. then we can all go home. Provided one of us doesn't get killed by the end of the day. he thought, rolling his eyes.

Scarlett sighed and turned towards the demons who were joking around. "You know, we may not like this integration but some of us are here to actually learn something." she snapped, her eyes meeting the demon boy that seemed to be the ringleader. She had heard the teacher call him Zach when she called role.

"If you don't like it, get out. You're making this any better for anyone." she added, her eyes shooting daggers at him.

Boys are idiots but it seems that demon boys are worse. she thought bitterly, her eyes not wavering from his.

"Your eyes may have fire in them, but I've lived in fire for years, and it don't affect me one bit." he retorted. "Plus, if I get counted truant, my folks will hang me. Literally. and I'd rather not be dead just because I don't find this interesting and I decided to leave. No thanks."

Zach rested his legs on his desk, the teacher still somehow managing to focus over top of the quarreling. He had to hand it to the teacher, she was a tough one. "But very well then. please continue to yammer on about how you despise us all and contribute to the noise, or are you going to listen to the teacher who's kindly decided to continue despite more much of a jerk I'm being right now?" he sneered.

Keep trying. I dare you. It makes my day more interesting.

Scarlett rolled her eyes. "Whatever, I hope you do go truant then." she replied before turning back to the teacher. The good thing was that the bell rang right after her last remark. She stood and smirked at him before she left the classroom to head to her art class. Ugh! This is going to be a horrible year! she thought as she walked out of the class. Her friends came up and nudged her playfully. "What was that all about? It looked like ya'll had a thing or something." they giggled.
Scarlett flushed and rolled her eyes once more. "Shut up, there is nothing going on with that waste of space." she replied as they got to her next class.

Thank Satan, Art is next period.. hopefully I don't get stuck with that witch again.. regardless, I get lost my art anyway.. even if she was it'll be like she wasn't even there... he said, absent-mindedly heading to art class.

Zach could have been a bit of an artsy one, but he enjoyed his comedy as much as his art, which often distracted him from being the best he could be. This year, he was going to try and remedy that, seeing as he wouldn't want to talk to the angels anyway.

The strange thing was, most demons didn't care for art unless it was used for vandalism, making Zach one of the out-of-the-ordinary demons.

Which means I'm gonna get stuck in a class packed to the brim with angels. As soon as he arrived he knew he was going to be right, nearly every single seat was filled by an angel. He decided to take a seat in the back to save himself the trouble.

Scarlett walked into her class and checked the seating arrangement and saw she was supposed to sit near the back. "Oh for heavens sake!" she said, seething in anger as she made her way to the back of the class. Her seat was right next to Zach and she knew that the teacher wouldn't let them move because he wasn't that nice about things like that. She growled slightly and sat next to him in a huff. I just won't talk to him. she thought angrily.
There were art supplies set up for everyone because they were starting with painting that day. There was a model in the middle of the room ready to pose so they could paint him.

Zach was already a bit upset that she was there, but chose the same thing she did and chose not to talk to her. He immediately set to work, attacking the canvas with harsh brush strokes, a huge contrast to the style of painting the angels were using. despite the more vigorous strokes, it was suprisingly detailed with a good choice of color and shading. Quite a few of the angels were suprised, having looked over to Zach's easel to see where all the noise was coming from.

Zach of course, wasn't paying attention to any of that, focusing solely on getting his art as perfect as he could. He swapped his vigorous strokes to a more delicate dabs as he hammered out the rest of the details. He actually smiled a little bit while doing so, surprising the angels even more.

And they thought they knew me. he thought, chuckling inside.

Scarlett shuddered at the sounds of his brush strokes, she sighed and pulled her ipod out of her bag and put on some music. Everything seemed to melt around her and she smiled to herself, as she started to paint. Instead of using colors to match his skin and the colors around him, she used opposite colors and made it in a negative point of view. She hummed quietly to herself to block everything out even more.

Zach finished and sighed to himself. It was harder than he had expected. Towards the end the stares of the angels were starting to distract him; he even made an error that he had to correct. He looked at Scarlett's canvas and was impressed yet confused. He'd never really seen anyone paint opposites.

Eh, everyone's got their own style I guess. he thought, shrugging it off and beginning to pick up his things and head to his next class, English. Oh joy.. I hate writing. he complained in his head, trudging off to meet his doom.

Scarlett looked over at Zach, feeling his eyes upon her painting. "What?" she asked softly, not really sounding rude. Painting had actually calmed her down from the days previous events. She stood and washed her brushes and put away the supplies before giving the teacher her things to dry. She went back to her easel and grabbed her things before she walked out of the room right when the bell rang. A sigh of relief washed over her when she walked into her history class and saw that he wasn't there.
Next was lunch, Let's see how many people get into fights within the next hour... she thought to herself as an almost challenge. Scarlett made her way to the snack bar line and got herself something to drink and a bag of chips. She walked outside to the courtyard and basked in the sunlight while she ate her lunch, hoping no one would bug her.

As soon as that bell rang Zach barreled out of English, almost kissing the ground outside of the room. An hour of absolute torture was something he was not ready for. At least lunch was next period.. His eyes stared at the array of foods in dismay, most of it being vegetables and other healthy choices. Being a demon, most hated vegetables and were die-hard carnivores. He was relieved there was at least a sandwich with some meat in it, but he was going to have to complain about the lunch selection later.

He sat down in a dark corner by himself rather than choosing to go outside, most of the demons deciding to eat by themselves somewhere in the shaded darkness. It's not that light harmed them, it was typically more annoying was all. The darkness was where they felt comfort the most, and it would be foolish to step out of one's comfort with all the spiteful looks being shot everywhere.

Zach ate in silence, hoping that nobody would disturb him.

The bell soon ran for the 5 minute warning before their fourth period class. Scarlett stood up and threw her trash away before she grabbed her things and headed to her english class.
She loved english, it was easy for her but her next class was hopefully going to be her favorite. That was only because she assumed that demons weren't that artistic to understand the art of performance.
She walked into the large theater and smiled to herself as she took a seat on the edge of the stage, chattering with people she knew before class started.

Much to Zach's horror, the school had put him in a blocked English, or 2 periods, because he was so poor at it. But as they only had the theater branch of English left, they decided to have him stuck in it, which would supposedly "Improve his writing and reading skills by over saturation" or some crap like that.

I think those damn angels are just trying to tick me off. he knew full well very few demons would take theater, which meant he was going to get stuck with a lot of angels, again.

He entered and his hopes that there might be quite a few demons were immediately crushed. Not only that, most of the people there were women. Moody ones.. oh great.. and to top it all off, there was Scarlett, sitting on the stage and talking to her friends.

Satan, kill me now.. Zach complained, just standing at the door, not wanting to go inside and face his doom.

Scarlett was happy there weren't any demons, to her knowledge, in that class. She did see a few younger timid ones walk in and sit huddled together. The teacher soon walked in and it surprised Scarlett to see she was a demon. Slightly dissappointed, she moved to a spot where she could see the teacher well and the bell soon rang for class to start.
Great...... she thought as Zach finally walked in. Please don't let this be a romance play... she pleaded to the heavens. It was almost a given that Scarlett would get the lead because she was the only one with the most experience in theater. Her friends usually enjoyed making the costumes and props and being her supporters. And Zach was the only other male that was old enough to be the leading male.

Please, Satan, no romance plays.. Zach also knew fully well he would be drafted for a lead role, since he was the oldest there and one of the very few guys that actually was in the class. Especially not with that Scarlett chick. anyone but her. Even if it's a romance, just not with her. please. he continued to hope, thinking that maybe the constant wishing would save him.

Scarlett sighed and kept her attention away from Zach and she looked up at the teacher in horror when she announced that the play would be Moulin Rouge. Scarlett's heart stopped. Crap... she thought with a soft sigh. The teacher continued on, telling what the play was about for those who didn't know and she finally announced the two leads. "Scarlett, you will be playing Satine, and Zach, you will be our Christian" she said happily. "Seeing as Scarlett is the most senior actress and well Zach, you're the only senior boy in this class." she added.

Zach's hand was shaking as he stood up. "I'm sorry teacher, but you must be insane. You should know better than all of us that drafting two opposite races that DESPISE each other as the leading roles of a love story is absurd! I cannot agree to this." Zach proclaimed, hoping his argument would at least convince the teacher of something. He sat back down, burying his face in his hand.

How could this day get any worse?

Scarlett was about to protest when Zach stood up. She sat back and watched the scene unfold. "Well I'm sorry Zach, you're in here for a reason. I expect you both to play nice and participate or I will fail you and you will not graduate." the teacher threatened. Hmpf.... I could always challenge him and get him to shut up. Scarlett thought with a grin. "Oh I have no problem with the play at all ma'am, especially since it's just a play and I care about graduating." she told the teacher with a sickly sweet smile. She could help but look at Zach with a raised eyebrow, completing her challenging move towards him. Maybe playing with fire isn't so bad.... she thought. "Thank you Scarlett for being so mature about this." the teacher finally said in surprise.

"Kiss-up.." he grumbled. All the angels were glaring at Zach now. "Oh come on! I didn't even CHOOSE to be here!" he snapped, moving further back in the room. He just wanted to crawl in a corner and die at this point. not only was he embarrassed to the point of mortification, everyone hated him for it!

No.. they hate me because I'm a demon.. and the teacher acts more like an angel than a demon! What's the world come to..

Scarlett was having a hard time not laughing. The teacher shook her head and handed out the scripts. She did hate the fact that the schools had been integrated but she wasn't going to treat students differently because it would cost her her job.
Scarlett looked through the script and almost threw up when she saw that they were going to have to kiss within the first two scenes. "Um, I don't think the school will allow this. There is a lot of rather risque scenes in here..." she said, gesturing towards the kissing scenes. Of course there were going to be other males from other classes playing the other male roles in the play but the teacher had picked them two together because they were in the same class. "I already cleared it with the board." replied with teacher. Scarlett frowned and sighed softly, nodding in dismay. The plan was that they would be practicing after school in order to get all the scenes together with the other classes so they could have this ready by the middle of the semester and they would be doing another play for the spring semester.
