The female trembled in the rotting log. Her black fur was fluffed, patches wet from where the rain was leaking through the log. With a tiny whimper, Amaya turned her head, glancing at the wolf behind her. She seemed to be in shock somewhat, unable to deal with her family being dead. Her fur was still singed, from earlier when she'd tried to rush into the den, past the flames blocking the entrance, and her front paw seemed to be in fairly bad shape. After laying like that for quite a while, she finally spoke to her compainion, "What do we do now, Alka?" |
Alka lifted up he head when talked to. His front right leg was shot. His mind started to race. When he ran into the den a rock had fallen from the roof and smashed his leg. He almost didnt make it out with Amaya. The den was now coverd in flames and rock. The humans did this and Alka wanted revenge. He would have to wait. "We have to make it to the southern Den. If anyone made it out alive they would go there. We are still at war with the Southern Den but with what just happened they will take us in." Alka tryed to get up but soon fell. He didnt want to stay here it was to dangerous for them.
Another whine filled the log, and Amaya inched forward, licking at Alka's leg. "Do you truly expect us to travel like that? Rest, for tonight. Humans aren't fond of the rain, and they may think all of the wolves in the den are gone...Maybe they won't look for us...Let your leg heal a bit." Her body shook still, but Amaya wasn't sure if it was because of rage or the cold sinking into her underfur. "I will hunt for us soon, don't worry, Alka."
Alka gave a few wines as she licked his wound. He gave a slight nod telling her okay. "Be safe. Watch your back." Alka started to close his eyes. The rain was a good thing. It was hard to hunt for the humans. The rain will wash away all tracks. In the morning they would think that they got all of the den since no tracks will be found. Alka soon fell asleep. He knew she was going to be safe tonight so he didnt mind falling asleep first.
Amaya paused, licking Alka once more, before she stepped out of the dead tree. She shook, sniffing in the wet air. No humans, although it was diffucult to smell anything with the water drenching everything. It had been such a nice day earlier. Amaya sighed, stepping away. She moved through the forest quickly, using the trails the wolves had created in the undergrowth. If she was lucky, she could find a tiny fawn hidden, though it would be easier to smell than see. After a bit, Amaya spotted a rabbit, and chased eagerly. The morsel got away, however, and rather than looking for another one, Amaya set herself to digging at the hole, keeping an eye out in case it popped up at another hole.
Alka noticed her leave. He was the runt of the litter but he was the best hunter in the whole den. Today he was teaching her how to hunt. She was a fast learner. He could still smell her even in the rain. He kept his nose up and made sure he could still smell her. If she goes to far he would go after her. Even if his leg i shot he cares more about her then himself. Truth be told they were friends since birth. She was the strongest out of her mothers litter. She favored him because he was always the small male. It wasnt until a few moons ago when they started to sneek out of the den at night. He tought to himself that this was a good thing now. If they didnt they would of been dead.
Amaya had located the rabbit, and found out why it hadn't left through another route. She ate the kittens, being unable to carry them all to Alka fast enough. The fat mother, however, was lifted in the wolf's jaw. She began trotting back, quickly crawling inside and dropping the burden in front of Alka, panting laughter. "Eat up!"
Alka saw the fat plump feast infront of him. He was proud and nuzzeld the female. "Thank you." HE started to use his good paw to hold it down while he riped the fur coved skin open. He started to tear off the meat and soon found a leg bone. He riped it out of the socket and nudged it to the female. "For you." Alka gave a grin and then started to naw on his meal.
Amaya chewed on the body happily, her eyes on the male eating. "When do you think you'll be ready to move on that leg? And do you truly think the Southern Den will help us?"
Alka stoped eating and finished what he had in his mouth. "At Dawn we move. We will have to see. If they wont take us we will just make our own den. Me and you can make a new one and fill it with pups." Alka wasnt sure how she would take his back up plan. The two spent alot of time together but thats going a little far.
Amaya tilted her head, evaluating her options. After a moment, her maw turned away, a wolfie version of a shrug. "We will have to see what events play out..." With that, she moved, pushing next to Alka in the tiny space, and laying down. She rested her head on her paws, letting the amber orbs flutter shut.
Alka moved next to her for heat. He didnt want to let it show but even this small movment hurt. He closed his eyes and soon fell asleep.
In the morning, Amaya yawned, not remembering the earlier events for a moment. Then she whined, turning her head to nuzzle Alka. She quickly moved to his leg, sniffing at the wound. Her amber eyes sought out Alka's golden ones, wanting to know if he felt well enough today.
Alka was awoken when Amaya brushed up against him. He looked her in the eyes and gave a head shake. Hes leg was in to much pain to walk. The sun was out. He knew that he had to find a good spot and let the sun hit his leg. The heat would make it be able to move by night fall. The rain must of washed it out. It wasnt to bad now. The sun and about another day will make it better. In a few days he will get back to 100%
Amaya tilted her head, guessing at what Alka was thinking. She climbed out of the log, tugging at parts and scrapping with her teeth. Eventually, a tiny hole bathed the inside with light, allowing the warm rays to bathe Alka. "Better?" The female asked, moving back inside, laying down to bathe her own singed paw.
Alka moaned at the sun. It was to make him feel better but the first rays hurt. After awhile it felt good. Him and her baskin in the rays of light. "What shall we do today?" Alka was always the one with the plan but now he wanted her to put in.
Amaya panted laughter, glancing at the male. "We aren't going to be able to do much, though maybe later you could attempt to strech the leg?" Her tail wagged, the wolf hauling herself to her feet, nuzzling Alka's face. With a bit more serious of a tone, she added, "We'll need to keep an eye out, though..."
Alka gave a nod at her last words. He nuzzled against her. The he thought it would be funny if he said the same thing she said in the same tone she used. After he did he laughed and rested his head on his good leg.
Amaya chuckled, before resting her head next to the male. "Alka...I don't want to leave to the southern den. I want to hurt the humans, kill their cubs like our pack, make them regret it..." Her amber eyes were partly closed, the normally peaceful wolf ashamed of the violence she felt.
Even he wanted to go with the new plan. He would give anything to kill them. His dad once told him that somone who takes an eye for an eye will make the whole world go blind. The best thing they could do was look the other way. This way they live. No doubt in his mind that if they went they will die. "Listen to me. I would love to but we must go and seek out the elders in the southern den." He lowed his head and put his paws over his eyes. He could not look at her now.
The wolf was silent for a while, before giving Alka a tiny lick. "As you wish. Come...let's work you lazy leg a bit." The black form hefted to it's feet, inching out of the log, looking back to the male and wagging her tail as she teased.
Alka winced as he got up. He started to walk out and tryed to bite her tail. He laughed it off like it didnt hurt. It did but not as bad as before another night and he would be ready to move. As for now he better no strain in so be layed down on some under brush of a tree and rested his head on some leafs.
Amaya yelped as Alka's teeth grazed her tail, the female bounding around the meadow. She snapped at a few butterflies, before moving to Alka's side, laying next to the male, panting in the heat. She didn't speak, instead lapping at the male's leg, not wanting the wound to fester.
