As soon as the man raised his voice, Kasimir had abandoned his seat and was strolling over. When the man looked like he might grab her, however, he quickened his pace and, as the man reached for her, grabbed his arm, tightly. His eyes looked dark, and venomous.
"If you lay a hand on one of my students without her permission, you will lose that hand." His voice was just as terrifying as his expression--a low, deep rumble. Cutting. Caustic. He could be one nasty man if he needed to be. And he wasn't about to allow an innocent student to get berated like this...like she was inferior. The scheduling changes had been his fault, anyway. |
Amais and many other students were shocked at what was playing out. She froze and wondered if she should be relieved that someone came to her rescue or be scared of the outcome.
A trail of sweat trailed down the shorter man's face as he suppressed a shiver. He was stubborn and he wouldn't give up. "You're that new teacher. Vittorio was it?” He sent up his own glare but wasn't as terrifying, “Just to inform you, she is one of my students as well. Well, WAS before the classes changed.” Reika prepared to stand from her seat, ready to take Amais out and run if she had to. “Would you let go of my hand?” The band director asked in a growl. Amais held in her breath, her emerald eyes going back and forth between the director and Kasimir. |
Kasimir let his arm go, half-shoving him away from the girls' table. "The schedule change was not her fault. It was my arrival that prompted the change of so many schedules. So back the hell off, or take it out on someone your own size. Leave. Before I do something I'll regret later."
He couldn't stand teachers who did nothing but yell, yell, yell...especially if the yelling was provoked by something that was not the student's fault. He'd had this happen back home in Italy, especially with older male teachers. He'd almost killed a teacher back home for slapping a girl, straight across the face. |
The shorter man struggled to regain his balance and he rubbed his sore arm, glaring up at the taller teacher. He had a few choice words that he wanted to say but restrained himself from doing anything further. With a scowl and a glance back at Amais he turned his heel and left.
The students in the cafeteria began whispering to each other about the scene and no doubt the administration would hear about it. Amais let out the breath she had been holding and looked up at Kasimir with a smile, "Thank you, Kaz, really. It seems like I've been troubling you so much today. I'm sorry for being such a nuisance." She was worried and she couldn't hide it. |
Kasimir glared at him until he was out of sight, then completely relaxed and grinned. "It's not a problem. I just have issues with teachers who are downright nasty to students, without a logical reason to be. If he has a problem, he should blame it on my arrival--it was because of me your schedule was changed."
He patted her on the shoulder reassuringly. "Don't worry about it. If he troubles you again, tell me." He turned and headed back to his table to finish what was left of his...'lunch.' |
Smiling, she nodded and watched him walk away. Reika and Amaya shot up, taking the girl out of the lunch room.
Reika looked over her shoulder to Kasimir, "Thanks, teach!" The two proceeded to take her out to the courtyard for some fresh air. While outside the three sighed in unison. "You okay?" Reika looked at Amais and scanned her over, "I thought you were going to pass out on us in there." She just laughed nervously once more and turned away to start walking to class, "I'm fine!" |
Kasimir felt smug, and accomplished, as he finished his lunch. He was aware that he was probably going to get chewed out by the higher-ups already. But they could review the security footage from the cafeteria if they really wanted to see whose story was correct. He had a feeling the man would simply lie and say Kasimir came at him with no reason or provocation.
Once he finished his lunch, he headed back to his room, for his next class. |
Amais was well aware that problems will arise from the event. She frowned, blocking out Reika and Amaya's whispering, hoping that the tapes and her own word would count for the principle of the school. He was fond of students, it was just he was absent so often that he barely knew what was going on. Taking a deep breath and sighing she decided that she would deal with it as it came, knowing that Reika and Amaya would plan something to take her mind off it if need be.
She didn't want to be any more trouble than she was. |
Kasimir slipped back into his classroom as soon as he reached it, turning his laptop off and resting his head on his desk, wearily. He'd had enough. He wanted to go home and take a nice, long nap. For hours...
As the nest class started to file in, they stared at him, attempting to sleep at his desk. It looked amusing... |
Amais and Amaya walked into class together; Reika had the class next door to theirs. The people were whispering in their groups. It wasn't suprising to find that the whole student body would find out about the incident. The event spread around like wildfired. The emotions in the room were mixed: some were excited, scared, and some hints of anger. One student glared at Amais and another asked if she was all right.
With a solemn smile she sat at her desk and from across the room Amaya held up the 'ok' sign with a concerned look on her face. Amais only nodded in responce and turned her attention to the front of the room making eye contact with her social studies teacher who sent her a kind smile. The bell rang again. When the lecture started, Amais only half-listened for the worry was getting to her. |
Kasimir allowed his new class to do...whatever. They weren't all that interested in him or his life, so he spent his time dozing in his chair, content. He was half-expecting the music teacher to return with an administrative figure. Hell, he was expecting it, by now. He had been expecting students to bother him about the incident, as well. He was surprised they were so quiet...
Kasimir stared at the ceiling, eyes half-lidded. He would get a good night's sleep tonight--that's for sure. It wasn't often he let his temper take control of him. |
Amais stared ahead at the board, taking notes on the lecture and glancing up at the clock every now and then. For now, she'll try to forget what happened and go through the day normally without any problems. Fifteen more minutes of staying stationary, fifteen more minutes until the next hour, and fifteen more minutes to ignore most of the glances.
|
By this point, Kasimir was almost wishing the administration would come to try and chew him out. It was so boring...all these students did was gossip...gossip...gossip!
"Did you hear? The slut cheated on him again..." "Yeah, I shoved that kid in his locker the other day!" "Hey, did you hear?!" Kasimir hated petty gossip. He never gossiped as a child or even as a teenager. He would, for the most part, mind his own business. |
The bell rang and everyone shot up from their seats. Amais went to Amaya desk to wait for her as the brunette chatted away. Finding that there would probably be no end to their gossip, Amais grabbed the collar of Amaya's uniform shirt and pulled her out of the room to meet with Reika.
"Do the three of us have Martin?" Both Amais and Amaya nodded when she released her hold. The three walked together into the photography class. Amais' music class was what filled in for her fine art credit, but photography was her backup. Hopefully, she wasn't too behind. |
As soon as the period ended, Kasimir glanced over his schedule. He was relieved to see he had no class this period. Just as he was about to recline back and relax, his door opened, and an older man poked his head in, asking him to come with him to the conference room nearby.
Kasimir grinned inwardly, standing up and following the man. He looked peeved, so this was probably about the cafeteria incident. They would probably have the band teacher in the room as well, he reasoned, as he followed the administration member to the room and stepped inside with him. |
Amais sat down in a seat between Reika and Amaya. She soon began fiddling with the extra camera that Reika always carried around with her. Students flooded into the classroom, Martin was a popular teacher due to the fact he was funny and had a birds and the bees talk at the beginning of each quarter.
"Did you hear what happened today?" A girl behind her asked another. "No. Wait...you mean between the band director and the new teacher?" "Yeah." "Well, in my opinion the director deserved it! He has been handling students like that and kept bothering the girl to be the pianist. I wouldn't have been suprised if he tried to do any-" The girl was cut off by the bell and by Reika's glare. Amais smiled at her friend when she turned back around. "Thanks." |
The room was empty, at the moment. "Sit down," the administration member grunted, heading back towards the door. "I'm going to fetch the...new friend...you made today."
Ignoring Kasimir's rolling eyes and grin, the man left to fetch the band director. He knocked on the door, seeing he currently had a study hall, and waited outside for him. |
The teacher let them out of class in order to take pictures. Reika showed her how to take the pictures and use the other function of the camera. Amais only watched her two friends for a while, watching as they seemed enthusiastic. The school grounds were large and the dorm areas were at least half a mile away from the school. Most of the area was surrounded by trees.
"So, what's going to happen?" She heard a person ask from a few feet away. "I don't know. Maybe the administration is going to sort it out or something." Someone answered. "Hopefully nothing too drastic happens. Can't have too many teachers being fired now, else the school is gonna get a bad rep." With a sigh Amais began to take pictures of the area. |
The man explained what was going on to the band director, gruffly, and led him towards the conference room, stepping inside.
Kasimir studied his feet the whole time, somewhat smug. He would be extremely amused if the man was still frightened of him, but he did want to get this over with quickly, so that he could spend his free period...as a free period, instead of forty-five minutes of interrogation. |
Click. One. Click. Two. Click. Thr-
"Amais!" Turning around she smiled at Amaya who was waving back at her. She went to join her and grabbed her wrist to check her watch. 45 more minutes of class. "Do you want to do anything later today?" Amaya asked her with a smile. "No. I have some homework to do for tomorrow's lab then I was thinking of heading to the resturant early today." |
After cycling through both teachers' stories, the administration member was getting quite annoyed. One would start talking and the other would interrupt at once, crying blasphemy, lies. He was fed up.
"All right! Both of you...just stay quiet." The man rubbed his temples for a moment, then reached over and opened up his laptop, which he always carried around with him. He searched up Amais' schedule and then phoned her photography teacher, asking for Amais to be sent to the conference room to provide an unbiased story. |
While Amaya was pointing out what was considered good shots their teacher came up to them.
"Miss Nagamiya." Amais turned back, "Yes?" "An administration member wants to speak with you." "Oh. Ok." Amais handed Amaya the camera as she began walking back to the school, her friend wishing her luck before she ran off to tell Reika the news. The school halls were quiet, aside from some of the teacher's voices being heard, and her footsteps echoed in the hallways. When she made it to the administrator's room, she knocked. |
The administration member opened it. "Nagamiya? Come. Sit."
He motioned towards the mostly-empty conference table. On one side was the band director, and on the other was a bored-looking Kasimir, who waved to her pleasantly. "I assume you know what this is about? I want to have these two both recap the incident in their own words. Please tell me whose story is most accurate." He stared at the band director, nodding at him to go first. |
Amais walked into the room timidly with a small smile and nod to the administrator. She returned the wave that Kasimir gave with a small one of her own, to not make the choice so biased. Taking a seat between the two sides, she looked up at the administrator who explained what was going on to her.
She looked at the band director who was signaled to go first. "Well," the band director began, "I recently found out the news this morning that I lost my pianist and the concert is a few weeks away. So, I went searching for Nagamiya, who-as a good student-would be kept in class. I found her in the cafeteria and I approached her, urging the girl to come with me so that we could get her classes changed back. As I reached out to guide her way..." the director paused and took a deep breath, and pointed an accusing finger at Kasimir, "then this BARBARIAN comes up, nearly breaks my arm, and threatens me! I only wanted my pianist back!" While she was listening Amais looked down at her lap. Honestly, it was her fault. She could have taken the offer Kasimir had made her, but decided not to. Before she could interject the administrator thanked the band director for explaining. |
Kasimir resisted the urge to laugh at the man's dramatic intake of breath before calling him a barbarian.
"Yeah, let me fill in some of the cracks there. He didn't even let her speak when he approached her. He accused her of leaving his class on purpose and nearly screamed at her for no reason whatsoever. When she kept trying to explain herself, he would cut her off, and he looked as if he was going to grab her arm, about as roughly as I grabbed his, and drag her off to change her schedule and receive a punishment she most certainly didn't deserve." He glanced at Amais, hoping she would verify his story. It had been true...it looked like the director would have attacked her if he hadn't been surrounded by other people. |
