“Well we won’t be lonely in out next class.” As the words left his mouth josh realized that he had just commented on what Lawrence was thinking not what he had said. “sorry.” Josh said sheepishly. “I did not mean to do that just now.” Now josh was worried that Lawrence was going to get just as annoyed as he had been when Tzalmon had read his mind.
|
Lawrence blinked. Being a very private person, he was obviously miffed, but he seemed to be understanding. "It's okay. I know it's hard to control powers like that. Just try not to pry, okay? It's fine if you want to read some of my thoughts, but I'd prefer it if you stayed out of the back regions of my mind," he said finally, nodding.
|
Being slightly startled by his reaction josh frowned. “I don’t go prying, I only know how to read what you are broadcasting. But I will be asking for him to teach me how not to, because it is a bit rude.” They had to clime some stairs to the Astronomy tower. It was odd to have a tower in the middle of the school but one of the first teachers of Astronomy said that they would build the tower or he would not teach. “It’s a good thing we don’t have to walk up these stairs each day, my legs might fall off.”
|
"Once we become better friends, I might not mind you prying. But it's okay for now, I guess, until you learn how to control it..." Lawrence frowned. "Really? I don't mind the stairs that much..."
He seemed ten times happier than he had when Josh had seen him in his second class. |
Making sure there were no students around, josh stopped Lawrence. “About prying…” he leaned his hand agented the wall. “I seem to have the ability to see… people when they are away from me. I saw you in your class.” It was a bit unnerving to josh to say it but he felt that he should get it out. “Now I will try not to watch you.” The bell to arrive at class rang. “Dang it.” if he wants me to explain more I will but I…. oh dang it! I just can’t tell him this. He would hate me even more if I told him why I did it. turning he started to head up the stairs to get to class.
|
Lawrence blinked, then grumbled when he heard the bell ring. He knew it wouldn't be marked on his permanent record if he said he was helping a new student get to class, after finding him lost.
"You...were watching me? Why, though? Were you worried about me or something?" He asked, walking with him up the stairs. |
“I..” josh seemed to stumble over the thought before catching it again. “I wanted to know what you were doing. If you were as bored as me, what your class was like, who was sitting near you.” I wanted to see you. he would never say it out loud, not until he know how Lawrence really felt about him. “I won’t do it if you really don’t want me to. I know I can control that one.” His words tumbled out of his mouth running on the tail of the one before it.
|
Lawrence blinked again. "Well...as long as you're being respectful and all, I don't mind you watching me in class...especially if you're bored."
It's not like I would mind...I get bored without him around, too... Lawrence seemed to have forgotten that Josh could read his mind. He wasn't used to being around people, especially not those with powers--seeing as he didn't know about his own. |
Stumbling on the step he reached out to catch himself. “so you don’t mind me spying on you in class?” Josh sounded a bit happy for this news. “I promise I will not spy on you when you’re in the shower or changing.” he gets bored with me not around? Why? as they reached the top landing the door before them started to close.
|
"Nope, not at all. As long as you don't find a way to distract me from taking notes, I'm fine," Lawrence replied, contently. He seemed glad that he was considering his privacy.
|
“I will do my best.” The teacher hearing them talking looked out the door he was closing.
“Mister Lynley, Mister Marleigh I presume.” The teacher opened the door so they could slip by. “and you two are late why?” a snicker escaped the students in the class. The teacher turned a cool stair at the rest of the class. oh great, now we are in trouble. |
Lawrence pointed at Josh. "He's a new student this year. I didn't see him anywhere near where he was suppose to be, so I went looking for him and helped him back here." He sounded quite honest...such a talented liar...
|
Josh mentally groaned yet thanked Lawrence at the same time. “Yes sir I am new here this year, I will try not to be late again.” With that the teacher nodded and pointed to two seats. Sadly the seats were separated by another seat that was occupied by William Stanton.
“Have a seat you two, I will keep an eye on you.” Turning back the door he shut it. Josh looked at the seats and felt lonely again. It was not like Lawrence would be in a different class; he would just be one seat away. But he had been looking forward to sitting near him in this class. |
Lawrence looked lonely, as well, as he sat down. Students that had been here for most of their schooling years knew that he was a kind boy...but he dressed strangely, so most of them avoided him.
Ugh...now all I feel like doing is putting my head down and sleeping... He did want to sit with him, and he was hoping William would either switch seats with one of them or condone note-passing between them. |
I so agree with you. josh thought wishing that Lawrence could hear him. “Alright students, unless you get my permission to swap seats, these are your seats for the week. At the end of the week if I feel there is a need I will swap your seat to where I think you should be.” Looking around the room the teacher made it seem like he was catching every one’s eyes. “Now if you would pick up your books from my desk we can began.”
|
Lawrence had had this teacher before in the past, for Meterology. He was also hoping he would notice something off about his behavior--Lawrence was always an eager and dedicated student. But right now, he looked listless and quite uninterested in learning.
He stood up to go and get his book. |
Catching Lawrence’s hand as he got up to get his book William looked at the teacher. “I know you well enough that I know something is up.” He looked over at Josh. “You want to sit by him? Promise that you will do me a favorer if it in your power latter in life.” He spoke quietly enough that the other students around them would not hear. Josh had gotten up and gone to the teacher desk, hoping to at least have one last word with Lawrence he had grabbed him a book too and was now heading back.
|
Lawrence nearly jumped out of his skin when William grabbed his hand, then scratched his head, shocked. "Um...what kind of favor?" he asked, quietly, quite puzzled. He had no idea what he wanted from him, but he did want to sit with Josh, very much.
|
“At the moment I don’t know, but I will not ask you something that is not within your power when I do ask.” He nodded as Josh walked up, then turned and went to talk to the teacher.
“What was that about?” Josh looked back at William as he handed the book to Lawrence. He thought of commenting about how he agreed with Lawrence about the class without the other one next to him but stopped before saying anything. He knew that it had been Lawrence’s privet thought not something he had said out loud. |
Lawrence looked confused, but thankful. "Um...he's going to let us sit together," Lawrence mumbled, hoping that was what he was really doing instead of saying something nasty to the teacher. It wasn't that he didn't trust William in particular...he had a little mistrust for the student body in general, so he was wary. He studied his book carefully.
|
Sitting back down Josh smiled. “well then, sit.” He patted the seat that William had just left a few moments ago. Walking back William smiled at Lawrence and then at josh.
I know you can hear me, you owe me big time, whoever you really are. josh nearly dropped his book as he heard Williams voice in his head. He had not known that some one else in the room could hear thoughts. “how…” realizing he had just spoken aloud josh closed his mouth with a snap. How did you know? the teacher glared at josh but said nothing. He know what was going on, he had seen it many a times with other students. One of the more talented talking to a new student in his mind. There was nothing the teachers could do about it if they did not have the talent other then try to punish the offenders. But that just took time out of class that he did not have. “alright students this is Astronomy, the study of the celestial bodies in their heavenly home.” The teacher pushed his glasses up on his nose. “as ordered by the school board I will be teaching both the physical and Magical property’s of the stars.” you will be able to do this too soon enough. Just remember you owe me. |
Lawrence didn't smile--he looked quite shy as he sat in his new seat. His timid nature concerning most other students was well-known among the student body. He was concerned that Josh, who William didn't know and wasn't fond of in the least most likely, would also owe him. He wasn't familiar with William, though he had many classes with him, so he hoped he wouldn't do anything...well...mean.
|
Throughout the rest of class josh made comments that would have brought a laugh to Lawrence about whatever the teacher was talking about. All the while trying to think up ways that he could pass notes to Lawrence without the teacher noticing. As they were sitting in the front row and he would notice anything that passed between them.
|
Lawrence seemed happy just to be sitting next to him, and he happily paid attention to both him and the teacher, at the same time. He was content, but was also tired for some reason.
Uuuurgh...maybe I don't feel well...I never get tired in class, and I slept well... |
“I don’t think you slept as well as you think.” Josh whispered to him, then blushed, “sorry could not help but over hear that thought.” The teacher glared at them then went on as josh looked forward again. “I had a nightmare there for you had me making noise when you’re used to only your own sounds in the room.” Again the teacher turned towards them.
“Would you two care to explain what I was just talking about to the rest of the class?” the teacher gave them both a disgruntled look. |
