Shadow stalked into his bedroom when he was told to and slammed the door shut. This always happened when his father went into important meetings with the other leaders of the dark realm. He was twenty years old, for Satan's sake! He should have been allowed in their meetings long ago, and the fact that he still wasn't was a disgrace to him. He went to the window and pulled it open quickly. If I can't go to the meetings, I'll go somewhere else... Shadow was very defiant in everything he did. He had always been that way, and he liked it about him. He slowly stepped out of the window and climbed down the vine on the side of the mansion, landing with a muffled, thump. He smirked and began to storm in the direction of the forest.

Shadow stopped in his tracks when he heard singing. He turned his head in the direction, which seemed to be much deeper into the forest and began to head that way. When he came to a break in the trees, he spotted a pretty female sitting on a rock, singing to herself. He smirked at her, thinking that she had a beautiful voice, and started to recognize the song. He couldn't place where he had heard it before, but he knew that it was familiar. Somehow. He climbed up a tree before she had time to finish the song and laid himself lazily over a tree branch, overlooking her. He was out of sight still, and he had a better view than before.

Shadow closed his eyes as he listened to her. When he heard her stop singing and almost let out a small groan, wanting to hear more, but he kept his mouth closed and let her start heading off. He started to follow her and when he was close enough, he stepped out of the protection of the forest and into the moonlight. His dark features were the first thing apparent about him. He stepped forward loudly to get her attention.

Shadow looked her over. Of course he was in the light kingdom. How could he have not noticed what with the woman dressed in all white and the surroundings all around him completely visible. "My name is Shadow." He shrugged. "I came out for some air..." Then he looked around and smirked. "Getting a breath of fresh air isn't illegal here, is it?" He snickered. "I swear, you lighteners are all way to stuck up and up tight." He chuckled. "Your a lightener...tell me...just how much does it suck to not know the dark?"

Shadow closed his eyes as she sang, listening to her and again getting the feeling that he had heard it somewhere before... He tried to remember it, but every time he seemed to get close to remembering, something would block his mind and he couldn't place it. "I...I know this..." He said more to himself than to her.

Shadow stopped in his place and he froze. "Well. This is quiet the surprise, is it not?" He sighed and explained. "I am the prince of darkness. Otherwise known as, Shadow Night." He frowned and looked over to his shoulder to the forest, which was getting darker as he stared at it. "Scamper home, princess, I have more important things to be scolded over." He grinned and began backing up into the shadows. "I do hope we shall meet again, princess..."

Shadow didn't catch her last words. He was running back to the mansion before day broke and they noticed he was gone. He climbed back up into his room and frowned seeing that his mother was sitting on the edge of his bed with her arms crossed and an extrememly annoyed expression on her wrinkled face. He climbed through the window and walked up to her. He knew what would happen, so he opened his arms and smiled lovingly at her. "Mother!" Just then, as if in a flash, his mother stood up and slapped him right across the cheek. "INSOLENT!" She yelled. "How dare you just leave like that! Worthless little pile of mistake!" Shadow, who was now holding the left side of his face smiled cheerily back at her. "Yep. Thats me. The future king of darkness." He chuckled. His mother gave him a look of disgust and stormed out of the room. "I'm telling your father." She whispered under her breath, leaving Shadow with a horror struck face.

Shadow watched as his mother left the room. He re-opened the window and began running when he hit the ground. There was no way he was getting in trouble with his dad. Not again. Last time he was in trouble with his dad...Things didn't go well....He ran into the forest and stopped as he noticed the sky was turning orange. He frowned and cursed under his breath. He couldn't be out when the sun was out. He had learned that the hard way. He was already too far into the forest, so he couldn't run back and make it in time. So, instead, he began running in the direction of the princess's palace instead.

He came to a break in the forest and kept running. When he found himself in a flace of roses, he knew for sure that he had to be in the palace for light. He smiled as he heard the familiar singing again and began walking towards it.

Shadow walked slowly into a place where the princess sat. He leaned his body against a tree trunk and waited to be noticed.

Shadow frowned at her, then glanced back at the sky. It was turning a more red now. Sunrise would be here in no more than a few minutes. "May I come inside your palace for today?" He asked. "I cannot survive in pure sunlight and I am too far from my palace to make it back in time..." He shrugged, acting as if about to lose his life was no big deal. "I'll pay you back somehow. Just please give me a bit of shelter for the day while the sun is out..."
