Mehrana and Iltu - Title coming later.
Alright, me and Mehrana, RPin' it up in here!
Name: Marius Emam Age: 44 Height: 5’3 Gender: Male Race: Human Appearance: Short, pale, and rather fat. Corpulent, even. In public, he is typically seen wearing white sorcerer’s robes. The top of his head is bald, but the short hair that remains on the sides is medium brown. His eyes are dark blue and he wears oval-shaped glasses. Personality: Kind, generous, eccentric, easily excitable. He's extremely loyal, and trusting to a fault. He gets mean when you breach that trust. Bio: Marius is a sorcerer, and would be considered one of the best of the age—if he didn’t mix magic with the art of science, which is generally frowned upon, as his world tends to be wary of most things scientific, preferring to use magical means. The experiments he conducts in his free time involve the two, and often go haywire. These have earned him more infamy than anything in magic-using circles and have caused his family much distress at all stages of his life, though he is a benevolent and well-meaning fellow at heart. He has been married to Aedenna for eighteen years and is the father of a seventeen year old daughter named Ettawynne. Powers/Skills/Strengths: Extremely talented at sorcery, very intelligent, adjusts quickly, ability to problem-solve, open to new methods and ideas. Weaknesses: Easily manipulated by his loyalties, too trusting, quickly exhausted by physical activity, terribly partial to food. Other Notes: -He works as a record keeper for the chapter of the Sorcerer’s Guild that’s located in his town (when not making a mess of things with his experiments, that is), and does various jobs involving science and magic for clients. Not all of this is strictly legal, but he always has the best of intentions, and is usually unaware of any law bending he has aided or taken part in. Name: Aedenna Emam Age: 42 Height: 5’9 Gender: Female Race: Human, some elf ancestry Appearance: Willowy build, silver eyes, upswept eyebrows, cheekbones are unusually high and ears slightly pointed due to some elf blood from several generations ago, but other than that her elven heritage is in no way present, in her appearance or abilities. Typically wears her brown hair in whatever the latest stylish up-do is, and dresses primarily in costly dresses and sorcerer’s robes—and lots of jewelry. Personality: A bit stuck up, but is polite enough. Warm and friendly with people she likes, cold and standoffish with people who've drawn her ire. Passionate and loyal, stubborn and steadfast. Powers/Skills/Strengths: Sorcery, enchanting objects and animals, intelligent, quick and sure-footed, unusual rapport with hippogriffs, birds, and horses. Weaknesses: Quick pass judgment, holds grudges, vain, has difficulty enchanting beings capable of higher thinking, and is below the skill level of an average sorceress. Bio: While her magical ability should have made her an obvious choice sorcerer’s pupil, Aedenna was instead apprenticed to a smith/jeweler at a young age. She made jewelry for the purpose of holding enchantments and when she was older, developed methods of using gems as mediums for channeling, storing, and controlling large amounts of magic, as opposed to the more common staff. This is where her fortune comes from, though she abandoned the profession when she finally earned enough to be able to purchase a large estate just outside of town. Wife of Marius, who she met through her jewel-work for the sorcerer’s guild, and mother of Ettawynne. Other Notes: -Aedenna’s wealth that came from jeweling was not enough to support her forever, so she now breeds hippogriffs for a living. -While she loves her husband dearly, his experiments make her incredibly nervous. To ease her worries, she hired Tascha. -She never, ever enchants her hippogriffs, preferring to have them do what she asks of them out of trust and love. She only enchants horses and birds in extreme circumstances. She has no qualms about enchanting other animals. Less Important Characters (that still need to be mentioned): Tascha - A non-human that works as a bodyguard for the Emam family, more to keep an eye on Marius and deal with his experiments gone wrong than to actually protect the family and their estate. Ettawynne- Seventeen year old daughter of Marius and Aedenna. Away at a boarding school for girls gifted with magic, and is studying to become a full fledged enchantress, though she frequently visits home. Always with her summoned Guardian, Gogol. |
Name: Xeina
Age: 112 Height: 4”6 Gender: Female Race: Dryad Appearance: Very thin, very short and just tiny in general, she has long, curly brown hair and dark green eyes. She appears to be no older than ten, although she normally wears what one would call “practically nothing”. Personality: She can be rather offensive, with a “my way or the highway” attitude. She’s very impatient nearly all of the time, and she could care less about what you’ve got to say. Under the influence of chocolate, however, she tends to be a bit of a spazz, but much kinder than she would be if she were “sober”. She has a bit of a wanderlust problem, and doesn’t like to sit still. Bio: She was born in a nameless forest near an equally nameless mountain, and by her fortieth birthday she had explored nearly all she could find within the borders of her fairly large home- and in turn became very bored. So, to be rid of said boredom, she left the forest to find something to do. She doesn’t stay in one area very long, so she doesn’t really have a place of residence. Powers/Skills/Strengths: She can run and climb very fast, and has skills in the area of stealth. Weaknesses: She’s addicted to chocolate (it does very strange things to Dryads) and has trouble resisting men. Other Notes: --- (( You can start it! )) |
“You wanted to go to the sorcery bookstore? And that is all, right Marius?”
“Er… yes, yes, of course! Just there.” Marius and Aedenna each rode a hippogriff, both the animals trotting merrily down the dirt road towards town. Their estate was four miles away, and they had covered three of those miles—farmland was giving away to scattered houses now. The grass along the road was well-groomed and scatterings of blue, white, and yellow flowers grew not far off. There were only a few trees—there were mostly fields in this area. Aedenna looked suspiciously at Marius, not buying her husband’s words for a moment. The hippogriff she sat astride was bay in color, with a magnificent ruff of jet black feathers on its head, its front, bird-like legs and horse tail were both same color. A white streak ran down its face and to the tip of it’s beak, the rest of which was as dark as its ruff. On a lead she held a young hippogriff, traces of grey down feather still present in its newly grown, sleeker plumes of light brown. The feathers faded into a golden coat of horse fur dappled with pale brown spots. Its tail was a creamy white, as was the crest of feathers on his head. The young hippogriff was smaller than the tall and regal one Aedenna rode, and each time it got excited and attempted to pull away, the older one nipped at it with its beak, startling it back to proper behavior. Marius sat upon a stout, muscular specimen, its entire body peppered in gray, white, and black, save for its beak and tail, both black. The hippogriffs would have been happier in the air, but that would have made controlling the young one more difficult—and really, the hippogriffs enjoyed a trip to town no matter what. Marius’ cooed in pleasure every once in a while, enjoying the breeze and sunshine. “You don’t plan to go to the alchemy store while I’m getting Coulter measured for his first saddle?” “Wouldn’t dream of it!” Marius said as jovially as he could—but Aedenna caught his voice quaver. “Marius,” Aedenna said, sounding exasperated. “Alchemy is a science. They try to make potions and… and transform things without magic! It’s completely unnatural, and I wish you would just listen to me and stay out of it. It’s always a disaster when you mix it with your magic.” “Not always!” Marius tried to insist, but Aedenna held up a slender, silencing hand, adorned with a sapphire set in a gold ring on her index finger and her golden wedding band. “Last time, when you tried to see if you could make a substance to increase strength and experimented with it on arachnids, we ended up having to lock a dozen giant spiders in your workroom so they didn’t swarm the house. Tascha was not pleased when she had to get rid of those.” “Yes, but—” “And when you tried to make a more effective fertilizer? And it gave the crops you gave it to ended up attacking people who tried to harvest them? And Shindel had to come fix it?” “Er, that was—” “And don’t forget when you tried to make a self-propelled carriage and it—” “Yes, yes, alright, there have been a few, er… incidents over the years. Aedenna raised an upswept eyebrow, jerking on the young hippogriff’s lead as he tried to pull away. “A few?” “Alright,” Marius conceded, “A lot. There have been some success to, remember when—” “Marius.” “Yes, yes, fine,” he sighed, conceding to his wife's wishes. “I’ll keep away from the alchemy store today.” |
Xeina was quietly meandering through a rather boring town, staying in the shadows or on the roof. She'd already been through a few towns similar to this one, and walking through the streets tended to attract a lot of attention when you looked like a scantily clad eight year old.
She was currently peering through the back window of a sweets shop and eyeing the rather large chocolate treats lined up at the front, trying her best to resist the urge to barge in and steal some. She sighed and turned away, knowing that there was no way she was going to get at it right now. "Oh well..." She muttered to herself, kicking the dirt at her feet with a lack of enthusiasm as she left the general area. After a little while, she found herself lounging on a rooftop that was rather out of the way, drawing imaginary shapes on the shingling with her long, pointed fingernails. "There's nothing to do here." She huffed, sitting back up and looking over the bustling streets. (( Was that okay? Any continuity errors or anything? )) |
The couple reached the stable just outside of town shortly after their conversation. Two carriages sat outside, horses absent- likely, they were in the stable, or in the pasture behind. Six or seven were visible from where Marius and Aedenna stood, the latter sliding off her hippogriff with an easy grace, the former clumsily clambering off his. In addition to the half dozen or so horses, four hippogriffs, two mules, a pegasus, and a unicorn. The unicorn, was, of course, part horse-its horn was shorter than a regular unicorn's, its form less slender, and it's coat a dark grey instead of brilliant white or silver. Besides, no full blooded unicorn would stand to be kept as a steed!
Aedenna squinted at the hippogriffs for a moment before breaking into a smile and lifting her head proudly. Three were her stock! She recognized two of them as ones that had been sold the previous autumn, the other had been one of the first she'd sold, not long after Ettawynne was born. She would have to ask Mandolgus if she might go out and visit them after he'd taken Coulter's measurements... Two stable boys hurried out to take their beasts from them, and Aedenna waved on off. "Go tell Mandolgus I'm here, Fletcher, there's a good boy. Jehal, just take Uriel from Marius, I'll take care of Coulter and Gwenhwyfar here." Jehal nodded, taking Uriel's reins from Marius and leading the hippogriff through the stable doors and into the building. Before she followed him, Aedenna turned and gave Marius a pointed look. "The sorcery book store, right?" "Right." He smiled ruefully, deeply regretting that he'd miss out on the alchemy shop this day. "Just the sorcery book store. I'll meet you here when I'm done, shall I?" After hearing Aedenna's affirmative and goodbye, Marius replied in kind and set off into town. He wandered down an out of the way street, and stood staring longingly into the window of a shot full of science books, scales, ingredients for portions of non-magical nature, sets of weights, mortar and pestles, retorts, calcinators, alembics, the list went on and on! He was so entranced by the shop's contents that he did not bother to look up, in which case he would have seen a girl who looked to be about ten lounging on the roof... With a sigh, he turned and trudged off, determined to not make a liar of himself. But oh, how he wanted to just stop in! |
(( :gonk: I am the worst roleplay partner, ever. ))
After a few more minutes, she realized her brooding wasn't really getting her anywhere. She looked over at teh town- or all of it she could see- trying to find something to entertain her. She could always... Well, she didn't really know. She caught sight of a rather short, plump man gazing at the windows of a shop- the shop she was lounging on, to be specific. He looked like he really wanted something inside, but alas, he sighed and trudged away with a dissapointed look on his face. Xeina was now sitting on the very edge of the roof with her toes dangling over the edge, swinging back and forth in front of one of the windows. It was just her luck that the shopkeeper happened to glance in that general direction- "Hey, you!" Xeina looked down, seeing the shopkeeper shaking his fist at her. "Get down from there!" |
((You are NOT. >:c Heaven knows I've taken longer! It's about having fun, not rushing to get a reply out. So no worries, ever! Besides, you're a great writer, and that more than makes up for any wait. c: ))
Marius turned around with a start as he heard the shop keeper yell. The tone of voice always made him stop and look; four times out of five, someone was yelling at him about something his experiments had done- or supposedly done. This, of course, happened more in the guild hall and in his house than out in public. Still it never hurt to be sure. Upon seeing that the shop keeper was not, in fact, shouting at him (and indeed he'd only just registered the words used and realized he wasn't doing anything to warrant them) he glanced up at the source of the other man's ire. It was with a start that he noticed the girl on the roof. Why, children ought not to sit on buildings, that was dangerous! What, oh what, would the child's parents have to say about that? Surely, they would not approve! Fatherly instinct kicking in a bit, he puffed back over, looking up at her. "Er," he said hesitantly, not wanting to sound angry, bossy, or rude (just the sort of things that would make he not want to come down!), "he's right, you know! You ought to get down off of there. It's not safe, you know!" |
(( N'awww, you're too nice. >.< ))
"Oh, hush up- both of you. I'm not causing anyone harm by being up here, now am I?" She snapped. Why was it that she was never allowed to be up high? But suddenly an idea popped into her head- a trade, perhaps. She turned to the shopkeeper. "Find me some chocolate, and I'll get down." She said. She really didn't want to get down, but staring at nothing but roof shingles and her own two hands was getting rather boring- not to mention she really wanted that chocolate. |
((I am not nice, just truthful. c: ))
"Well, er, you're not causing anyone any harm," Marius replied, glancing at the shopkeeper nervously before looking back up at the girl, "but suppose you fall? I imagine your... parents or guardian or caretaker or what-have-you shouldn't be very thrilled! Besides you ought not to annoy people by, um, sitting on their... establishments." He glanced at the shopkeeper, who he was unfamiliar with (perhaps he'd recently been hired), wondering if the man would acquiesce to her request for chocolate or just shout some more. He rather hoped he didn't shout, it was such an unpleasant way to deal with young ones. He certainly wouldn't have let Ettawynne demand such a trade if she was acting up, he would just insist he she stop! Of course, this was not his child, and he didn't want to offend anyone by trying to boss her about. He thought the girl must be very spoiled, but reconsidered that upon noting that she was wearing very little. It didn't seem like parents who spoiled their children would give her anything less than finery to wear. Was she just defiant, then? |
