"Yes. I had one or two dormant gifts. My elder sister woke them for me..."
At the mention of his sister, Shadow looked strangely solemn, heartbroken. This look lasted only a split second before his normal expression returned. He took another bite of his food and swallowed. "Your powers seem to be a mix of two kinds...dormant kinds and kinds that Finders couldn't locate. Once you've had your fill of food, we can try to awaken those, if you'd like." |
I dont think so, not tonight any ways. he did not want to have to face down new gifts or the truth that Shadow did not know what he was talking about so soon after finding that his whole family was dead. slowly he ate the bowl of soup.
"All right...definitely this week, though. And then, I suppose we will see who is right--myself, or you." Shadow's tone indicated that he welcomed the challenge and was thinking of it in a playful manner. He sighed quietly, finishing up his food. He went for another bowl. "By the way. For tonight, would you like me to cast a spell that will prevent you from having nightmares for the night? I don't think you need any more stress, after opening up that memory."
could I sleep in the garden not in the bed? I dont like the fell of it against my skin. he had never liked sleeping in the caravans when he could help it. that was why Angelo had been under the wagon on the night of the attack.
"If you can deal with the insects, sure," Shadow murmured. "Though, I will warn you that I often get a lot of pest-like insects out in the garden...ones that bite, cause rashes...that sort of pest..."
I dont mind the insects, I have delt with them for a long while now. finishing his soup he smiled sadly. thank you for this.
"You are welcome. If they bother you too much, you are welcome to come back inside at any time." Shadow gathered up all the dishes so he could wash them.
going up stairs he garbed some of the bedding and brought it back down. he had never been bugged by the bugs around him, his sisters always claimed when they had to sleep out in the grass that he had some sort of gift to drive away the ones that would harm him. thinking of his sisters he sniffed trying to hold back the tears. he would always miss them but there was nothing that he could do about that now.
Shadow knew it would take a long, long time for Angelo to fully accept that they were gone. It had taken Shadow many, many years to accept his sister's passing, but that was because she had been all he had. He still didn't want to talk about his past, but if Angelo grew curious enough to ask him, he would gladly tell him. Perhaps after seeing that they had something in common, he would trust him a bit more.
finding a spot he could sleep in without crushing to many plants Angelo sighed and crowed into the blankets. it had been nice last night too sleep in the grass again, the slave pit had been the worst for him, with only stone around him.
Shadow finished cleaning up and headed back up to his room to sleep. He was tired and wanted to relax. So Angelo could feel it, Shadow established a weak mental connection to him so he could cast the spell he wanted. He cast it quickly, and it messed around with the part of his mind that produced dreams. Then, he pulled out. By this time, he'd reached his room. Thankfully, he headed in and curled up in his bed.
grumbling about meddlesome people Angelo lay down in his nest. he was never going to want to sleep up stairs with Shadow, he could not understand people that lived rooted to one spot but had no connection to the land around them. a farmer oh yah sure he could see doing that, but to live in a place like this and not work the fields around it, what was the point? as he thought of the stupid of the Romans and any one else that lived like them he fell asleep.
Shadow didn't like staying in one place for too long. He moved every three years or so--he itched for travel, but tended to stay in one place for three or four years. He had a personal garden out behind the house that he watered every morning when he woke up. He rarely realized he did it, and he never made it too large, since he didn't stay in one place for more than four years...
Quietly, he closed his eyes. He used to rip the ceiling out of homes he purchased, in the bedroom, so he could see the sky. He found that the homes would not sell, then, and he'd stopped. |
the next morning dawned bright and clear, Angelo did not notice, he was still sleeping. he had rolled over three or four plants to finely curl up to a bush.
Shadow grumbled when he woke up. He wasn't feeling too well, and he was quite thirsty. Unwillingly, he wandered out of bed and back downstairs. As to not wake Angelo, he crept quietly through the garden--which wasn't too glamorous, just a few bushes and a lot of grass--to his back garden, which was filled with flowers and fruit.
waking with a start Angelo looked around. he had been dreaming... something but could not recall it now. it did not matter, today was another day of that beast of a man. getting up he pulled some small twigs from his hair. he knew that he had dreamed but of what he could not recall, nor did he see that it mattered.
Shadow peeked around the corner of his private garden, hearing him stir. "Good morning. Do you want to help me?" He was busy tending to his plants, scowling at the fact that some new weeds had started growing in.
looking up from folding the bedding he sighed. "with what?" Josh's voice rasped out as he spoke. it was not as good as he had hope that it would be. setting the bedding aside he walked to the doorway to the back.
Shadow's garden was a beautiful thing...it was filled with many exotic flowers and plants. When he moved, he would often take them with him to new places. He had many very rare flowers in there, as well as lots of fruits and vegetables. "With this." He was currently pulling out weeds.
walking over he looked down at what Shadow was trying to pull up. "why are you wanting to take that out of the ground. it is not edible." Angelo winced at the pain of his throat.
Shadow set the weeds aside. "You may still think what you'd like to say, if that is easier for you. These plants...I pity them, I do, and it is true I cannot eat them. But..."
He studied his flowers, and his greens. "When they appear near these flowers and other plants, they end up overpopulating the area and killing them. These are very sensitive plants." |
"so you take them out? what do you do with them?" he was not going to use his thoughts to speak, it just was not natural. bending down he looked at the ones that had already been pulled up.
"I either take them out somewhere else and replant them or use them as fuel for cooking fires and such, once they shrivel up. I can't eat them, after all." Shadow continued to pull out the weeds, setting them aside in a neat pile.
slowly sorting through the pile already made he made them into a few different piles, each one was a single type of plant. "this one here makes a nice smell when burned fresh." he looked up at Shadow and then reached out for a plant to pull. his fingers slowly closed around a plant.
Shadow watched him, thankful he didn't touch his garden plants--only the invasive weeds he didn't want there. "I did not know that..."
