"ok." Angelo slowly ate his food the whole time staring at it trying to guess at what it could be and why it would be helpful. his mind went over so many Ideas that he just turned down as to stupid or dumb.

Shadow finished his food after a while, seeming content now that he was full. He had been rather hungry. He wasn't looking forward to possibly explaining about why he still looked upset, but if he had to, he would.

Angelo slowly finished the food that had been put before him. looking over at Shadow he sighed then went back to the last of his food. never should have asked, he is not happy now.

Shadow cleaned up his eating area silently. He was waiting patiently for Angelo to finish and check out the item in the den...he wanted to explain, but he didn't want to explain...it was strange.

finishing up Angelo walked over to the item and slowly started to lift the edge of the cloth.

Underneath the cloth was a very beautiful, colorful portrait of a frail-looking young boy, with crimson hair and owlish golden eyes. He was pale, and had a big smile on his face. His birth and death dates were hastily scrawled in the bottom right corner of the portrait.

"so how is the to explane what you almost said?" Angelo throw back the cloth so he could get a full view of the picture.

"Yes..." Shadow nodded slowly, leaning against the wall. He waited for the inevitable deluge of questions and accusations. He was used to others being very critical of him because of this picture...

Angelo looked at the picture and then back at Shadow. "so who is he? he is not you, to red in the hair, the face does not fit ether." sitting down next to the picture Angelo waited for the story that should come with the picture.

"He was my best friend. Another of my kind." Shadow hadn't specifically said he wasn't human, but he'd admitted it, now. He seemed very uncomfortable talking about him. "Rosethorn. He was murdered by humans, in the last ten years or so..."

"who would name a kid rosethron?" Angelo said, not really feeling like he wanted to push too hard to find out what Shadow was.

"He named himself," Shadow informed him. "He had no parents when I found him. I took him in..."

"so you took him in like you have taken me in? so how is that a big secret?" ok maybe he was going to have to push a little bit, but he did not want to hurt this man, not yet.

Shadow didn't say anything for a moment. Then, he shifted a bit, and he stood up. He walked out into the kitchen to get some water and then returned, leaning against the doorframe. "He and I were in love." He paused, expecting the reaction he'd gotten from everyone he'd told--the damnation, the accustations...not only had Rosethorn been male, he had also been underage.

" YOUR NOT GETTING ME AT YOUR LOVER!!!" Angelo jumped up and moved away form Shadow. he know it, the earthbound rootgrubber was wanting him for his toy. now way was Angelo going to allow that to happen he was not going to become some mans lover without feeling love himself, and he was not feeling loved here.

Shadow rolled his eyes. "At the moment, I wouldn't touch you to kick you," he replied, caustically. "Love is different than lust, young man. Rosethorn and I were together for over a century. We were connected on an emotional level, more so than a bodily level. I don't feel anything for you, and even if I did, I wouldn't act without your consent. I'm not that kind of man."

" a century? he dose not look that old, nether do you." Angelo's hands were flat against the wall that he was backed up against.

"We are not human...he...wasn't human, I suppose, since he has passed. I stopped aging at the age of twenty-four, and he stopped aging at the age of sixteen," Shadow explained, finishing the glass of water he had.

" what are you then?" Angelo tried to hide the shivers that started when Shadow said that he was not human.

"If I told you, only more accusations would come my way, and I know that. For now, I'll just say that I have no intention of harming you unless you do something that warrants it. Fair enough?" Shadow seemed like he was done being accused of things for the day. When the two of them trusted each other more, he would be more than happy to tell Angelo the truth.

"no its not fair." he was scared, he know of things that looked human but were not. he know that there were monsters out there that harmed children and men. right now his mind ticked off all the possibility that Shadow could be.

"Then promise me you're not going to freak out on me. As I said...I have no intention of harming you unless you do something that warrants me harming you." Shadow's voice was calm.

"wont freak out? how can I not freak out, your not human, you dont belong in this world." his mind had decided that the most likely thing was that he was a snow demon hiding till the snow came back.

"Actually, I was here before humans evolved," Shadow informed him, offhandedly. "Don't give me that rubbish. I've been here longer than your species, and I have just as much of a right to live here as you do. Now, are you going to overreact? If you are, I won't tell you."

trying to slow down his beating heart Angelo tried to think of what had been here before the humans. snow demons were said to have but they never stayed where the snow did not. a regular demon would not have stayed here ether. he was in no way a god. so what was he?
