“Oh had I known you were a Life shadow….” The Cartwright sighed. “But what is passed is passed. How long do you need him to stay still?” he looked back towards where Angelo was lying, before a look of confusion crossed his face. “I thought you had to bury them before they could rise.”

"That is another strain. A different variation, or breed, so to speak. There are several. My breed does not require that. All we need is calm around us...and to stay unmoving for a while," Shadow explained. "I can lift him without moving him too much, but that would require using some of my magic." He peered around at the seemingly quiet forest. "I do not think the people here will like that."

“Well then!” putting his hands on his hips the Cartwright stormed out to look at the villagers that were still around. “DO YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO BUT GAWK AT MY HOUSE!?! IF YOU ARE NOT GONE WHEN I CAME BACK OUT EACH OF YOU WILL SUFFER…..” he left it to them to think of how they would suffer as he walked back into the house. “That should get them gone. So how did you know about me and my family connection?”

"I suspected...I have had Angelo with me for many years--I recognized the native tongue...plus...I can hear his voice in my mind. We can speak to each other. And he suspected, as well," Shadow replied, amused. "Hang on, I will fetch him..." Shadow dipped back inside, heading for Angelo.

“well then you go get him and I will drive the last ones away.” He turned and walked out the door.

Shadow leaned down and kissed Angelo, affectionately. "Yes. You just have to be still." He felt very paranoid now that he'd revealed himself, but that was just a natural reaction.

~He is not going to betray us. I…~ Angelo sighed and then went on feeling a bit bad that he had done this. ~I watched his thoughts and read what he was thinking. He is happy to help one of the families. He plans on sending out word after we leave to all of the clans nearby that he knows of to have them looking for us so that they can aid us.~ looking at what the Cartwright was doing Angelo smiled. ~he is now marking the wagon with symbols declaring us family and destined to the Black Rose.~

~I do not think that will change my wariness. I have always been wary of humans, any kind of humans, finding out what I am.~ Shadow didn't seem to be that fond of the general human population. It was no wonder why, considering that they had taken his previous love away from him. He studied Angelo carefully. ~Does it still hurt to move?~

~so do you think you will be able to handle a whole group of humans and others that know about you?~ Angelo opened his eyes and looked over at Shadow. ~it still hurts, kind of like a bad sun burn.~

~It will take time for me to settle down. My trust is something that is not usually given unless it is earned...~ Shadow sighed and nodded. "All right...I am going to lift you up. Try not to move." He used his powers to lift Angelo up, completely, without moving him too much. He walked outside, allowing his body to follow him through the door.

~well don’t worry about the Black Rose families, they all have at least one family members that are vampires like us.~ Angelo held as still as he could trying to hope that he would cause problems for himself and his sire. ~so what would happen if I moved while I was still in this state?~

~It would just hurt. Terribly.~ Shadow walked back over to the Cartwright, making sure Angelo's body stayed in a perfectly horizontal position.

the cartwright had by now had driven the rest of the people off. "my daughter set up some blankets for him in the cart, it would be best if you just kept up the ruse that he is dead untill your a ways from here. the rest would not be accepting if you were to take him in the wagon." his daughter smiled and nodded to them as she finished laying out the silk sheets. "but would you mind if you took her back to her grand mother? I am guessing your going to go to to the Black rose's"

"That is the plan, yes..." Gently, Shadow lowered Angelo onto the blankets, hoping the ride wouldn't be too bumpy for him. "I planned to keep up the ruse...I do not want to push my luck. The last time I revealed myself to the populace, they tried to kill me...and killed someone I loved."

“would you mind taking her along? She will be able to help with the beast and I could have a few more things packed for her, you two will need less food am I right?” the Cartwright had a hopeful look on his face.
~she can acted as our introduction to the Black Rose’s. I do not think they would take us if we just showed up and said we wanted to join. The mark in to wagon will help but she would help more.~ |
"We will not need as much food, no. And we will take her with us, if you would like that." Shadow seemed to be growing a tad more agreeable, though he had every right to be wary.

“thank you let me write up a introduction you can carry with you as well in case something happens, the gods forbid but it could.” Looking around he found some louse paper and started writing. As he finished up a few minutes later his daughter walked in.

Shadow ran a hand through his hair, feeling quite apprehensive. "What shall I do? How do I approach them? I, uh...if you have not already guessed, I am not the most social of creatures..."

“You Kith will know how.” He pointed to where Angelo lay. “Your child. And my daughter will be able to tell you where to find them if they are camping around here.” The daughter seemed to brighten up when she heard this.

Shadow nodded, then sighed. "I had better gather up the last of the things I am taking...the worst hassle will be making my garden portable." He had no idea how he was going to accomplish that.

“ ah about your garden.” The young woman said and smiled. “Come see what my siblings have done.” Leading him out of the house she showed a bunch of younger kids carefully bringing up the plants from the ground they were in. then just as gently placing them in dirt filled pots. As the child ran out of dirt filled pots their other pots were taken away to the cart and more were brought from a nearby dirt pile where the youngest was putting the dirt happily into the pots. “We can fix them up so that they are safer after we are on the road.”

"Thank you very much. I'll work on fetching the rest of my things." Looking a little happier, and friendlier, Shadow dipped back inside for a moment and returned with a few very odd items he'd stashed in the cellar for safekeeping. After a few more minutes--now at liberty to use his magic to lift things--he was able to fit everything inside the wagon. "That should do it."

Holding his hand out the Cartwright smiled, taking Shadows hand shaking it he smiled. “You have been a sent blessing to me and I hope that I have been to you. May the road guide you safely on to brighter fields and greater rewards.” He slipped a small coin purse into Shadows hand as he spoke. “A little gift between you and I, do not let her know.”

"You didn't have to...but thank you...thank you very much." Shadow shook the man's hand contently. He looked around, after surreptitiously slipping the purse into his pocket. "We should leave." He glanced over at the young woman. "Are you ready to go?"

The young woman nodded and then was swamped by her siblings that wanted to say good bye. Her father had already started to walk back into his house. ~he did have to even if he is in a way doing this for us. He had to give you something as payment. He knows what it is like to live on the road and he sees me as family.~
