"I hate politics sometimes." The words were followed by a loud moan as Duke Matthias leaned his head out of the carriage window impatiently, having been surveying the Duchess Amaterasu's duchy since they had entered her borders. The servant sitting across from him was about to say something, but he held up his hand to silence them. "Scratch that. I love politics. What I hate is traveling for hours in a rickety carriage. It's so boring!"

Letting the curtain fall back over the window he placed his face in his white-gloved palms. He felt like screaming at the top of his lungs just to hear something aside from the countryside peace. If the ride weren't more than a few minutes longer he probably would have tried to get out and walk the distance just to get some sort of change.

Once he calmed himself down he looked back up at the servant and gave them a crooked, confident grin. "This had better be worth it," he ran his fingers through his shoulder-length raven black hair, "or I'm going to be very upset we traveled all this way. Very upset."

Of course there was no answer from the servant. She was mute - that's why he picked this one as the head servant. The last thing he needed was someone going and spreading all the dirty little secrets her kind heard, and that was his best guarantee. She folded laundry well, too.

Matthias was used to getting what he wanted, and not just with servants. Ever since he was a child he was considered the favorite. Not only was he the eldest, but he was bold and his appearance was fair. It seemed that a large ego and a pretty face got him everything his bloodline did not.

Oh, and that face was pretty. Not only was he tall and well muscled, but his features were very strong, but not heavyset enough to be overbearing, and his pale skin made his dark hair seem exotic. More than any of his other good fortunes he used his appearance to get what he wanted. Safe to say he was used to getting his way with the opposite sex on virtually anything, just with a coy look and a few seductive whisperings. He was hoping Amaterasu would be the same way - they always were, so he wasn't worried. He had confidence, remember?

The carriage stopped, and without a moment's hesitation he leaped out to the ground. The look of elation on his face at being out of the vehicle was that of childlike joy. He was so happy he could have kissed the earth.

Brushing off his red, white and gold finery, he looked around for the duchess, ready to wow her with his charms.

As he awaited the duchess he bounced on his heels impatiently, looking around at her home. Surprisingly...humble, considering the wealth she was rumored to have. Still impressive, of course, and more than most could afford. He heard the arriving footsteps of his host and his head snapped upward to get a good look at her.

Amaterasu was beautiful, to be sure. If she wanted to, she could have easily ridden by on life with her looks, but her dress was modest enough to suggest that she didn't. In fact the contrast between his flamboyant, colorful suit and her simple black dress threw him off guard. Where before his smirk had been one to attempt to flatter, now it was one of cocky amusement.

She was one of those quiet ones with a sense of morals. They were always the most fun to chase after. He'd give her two days before he'd have her in his bed. Was it wrong to think this of a lady he had just met? Definitely, but that had never stopped him before and wouldn't stop him this time.

She invited him in with a coldness that spoke of how little he awed her, and although it didn't deter him it made him slightly frustrated. Rejection was something he didn't believe in letting happen.

Throughout the tour she was very polite, he noticed, following all rules of etiquette. Amidst his thoughts of conquest he made only a small note of how much nicer the house appeared on the inside, his focus largely placed on trying to say the right phrase to invoke an emotional reaction from her. The duchess remained cold. I'll try a more straightforward approach later, he decided to himself, and it seemed the perfect moment when they were alone in the parlor.

"If I May I can tell you my hobbies,likes,dislikes so we can both get to know each other," she said. Her words seemed so bored, so emotionless, he just wanted to do something to catch her off guard.

Leaning forward and doing his best at a dashing smile he said, "That sounds delightful. However, there are...other ways to get to know each other, if you're interested."
