Léan was tightly curled up, breathing slowly. It looked like just the stress of being in the tank had been very detrimental to his health. He opened his eyes when she neared, looking tired and very hungry. "Are we going, now...?"
Roger watched and shook his head slightly, as if in pity more than anything else. Emy looked relieved when he woke and talked to her. She nodded slightly and gently took his hand. 'Come on...time for you to go home.' She mouthed and smiled softly, but a little sadly.
Léan nodded slowly, uncurling himself from on the rock. He pushed himself off of the rock with what little energy he had and helped her back up to the surface.
Emy smiled sadly and went with him. Once they broke the surface, Roger held out a hand for Emy. Who, not really wanting to let go of Léandre's hand, frowned slightly. Then sighed and let go of his hand, taking Roger's. Roger pulled her out, then she went into the back without a word to dry off and change into something she brought in case she got wet. Roger looked down at Léandre and held out a hand after spreading out a tarp. "Come on."
Léan was visibly unnerved--he didn't like human men, more so than human women--but he held out his hand, trusting Emy's word on this. He appeared to start to slowly sink as he did so, losing energy.
Roger noticed his unease, but didn't have time, nor was he the type, to comfort him. He noticed also that he was starting to sink. Roger quickly shot out his hand and pulled him up smoothly and up onto the tarp. "Now all you need to do is lay there. Emy and myself will do the rest." He smiled and called for Emy. She popped her head out and nodded, coming out in all black, nothing shiny or visible except her hands and face. Roger was already dressed in all black, but his shirt was sleeveless and he didn't cover his hair because it was dark, unlike Emy's. She took up two corners of the tarp and Roger took the other two. Then began to carry Léandre off the walkway and into the back.
Léan seemed to feel a lot better once he was out of the tank--a bit of color returned to him, and he curled up in the tarp to rest. His tail flopped for a brief moment, not that used to being out of water, but other than that, he was completely relaxed.
Emy noticed and was sort of confused as to why he would seem better, but didn't question it. When they got to the bottom of the steps, they set him onto a long flat rolling cart. Like the ones they use for moving big boxes. Roger took control of the cart and Emy was look out. She went ahead and peaked around the corner. She knew where all the cameras were and how to get around them. She navigated Roger through them. Once they were outside, the breeze was cool and itwas very dark.
Léan was very relaxed. He continued to rest the entire time they helped him out, though he shivered a bit when the cool breeze hit him full-force.
Emy made sure the gaurds weren't paying attention, then waved Roger out with Léandre. Who took him to the large SUV.
Léan curled the tarp around him more to combat the cold, his eyelids drooping closed. He looked ten times better than he had in the tank, and a little happier, for sure.
Emy hurried after them and opened the back of the SUV for Roger. Then they lifted the tarp, putting Léandre into the back. Emy smiled, seeing how much better he looked. "We'll be right back, Léandre. We have to make it look like we didn't take you. We still have to live here." She smiled and gently touched his arm, then closed up the back. Emy and Roger snuck back into the aquarium, then casually walked out, talking about getting some food. To make it look like they were done with whatever they were doing.
Léan spared her a smile before dropping his head back onto his arms and closing his eyes again. His entire body ached for the touch of real sea water once more. He longed to smell the air, frolic with the wildlife, see his brother again...so, patiently, he awaited their return.
Emy smiled happily when they got back. "Hey, Léandre. We're going to drive to my house first. Ok? I have to drop off my car. But, so you aren't nervous staying with Roger. Me and him are going to switch cars." Roger spoke up, sounding like he'd been had. "Hey!" Emy glared at him. "Just get in the car. Just because you're wanted and Léandre probably won't ever be seen by us again, doesn't mean that you can make me a wanted criminal as well. So, damnit, get in the car!" Her eyes widened as she noticed what she said, then looked at the ground sadly. "I'm sorry..." Roger blinked, extremely surprised. His eyes then turned very caring and her wrapped his arms around her. "This must be very hard on you...you've never cursed at me....don't apologize....." He whispered to her, then kissed her forehead. "Go on." He released her and switched keys with her. Emy climbed into the SUV and put her smile back on. "Ready to go?" She said happily.
Léan watched them bicker and then make up for a long moment, idly. He'd never had a caring adult figure in his life, so their exchanges were rather alien to him. "All right...I can live with that. I am ready...more than ready..."
Emy smiled gently and kindly at him in the rearview mirror as she started the car and started to drive as Roger pulled out. "It'll be about a half hour to my house, then another two to the ocean. I don't think Roger could get anything closer to the Bering Sea. I'm sorry."
"It is fine..." Léan sounded a little solemn, but he really did not mind being so far away from the Bering Sea. He would reach it eventually. No, something else seemed to be bothering him. But, only minutely.
((I've got to take a shower, so I'll be back a little later. :3)) |
Emy noticed there was something bothering him, but didn't pry, though she looked a little worried. She turned her eyes back onto the road, turning onto the interstate. She kept in view of Roger for about fifteen minutes until he got too far ahead of her. "Roger...if you've taken my car anywhere but my house, there'll be hell to pay..." She muttered to herself as she drove faster.
Léan stayed curled up in the back, jumping whenever the tires hit a snag or bump on the road. Of course, he wouldn't be used to vehicles...there were no cars in his world.
Emy glanced back and winced slightly. "I'm sorry. Guess you're not used to that. I'll try not to go into any pot holes."
"Thank you..." Léan wasn't sure what a pot hole was, but somehow, he didn't really want to know. Instead, he focused on relaxing and getting through the trip in one piece.
Emy nodded. "No prob." She got off at her exit and was going down her street two minutes later. She cursed, loudly. "Where the hell is he?!" She was fumming. "That lousy...good for nothing...criminal!" She hopped out of the car and looked around. Then closed the door so Léandre couldn't hear. Then screamed threats at nobody. She took a deep breath and got back in with a sigh. "I guess I'm taking you by myself." She muttered. Then pulled out of the driveway and started back to the interstate.
"Perhaps you should give him a few more minutes?" Léan suggested timidly. "Or find a way to contact him..." He sounded a little nervous. He didn't like being around angry humans.
Emy blinked and looked at him. "What? Oh. No. He knew the way here. He knows how important this is. If he wasn't already here waiting to get in then he isn't coming. He went off somewhere with my car. But that's not what I'm angry about." She bit her lip for a moment, trying to calm down. She looked at him, sort of studying his body language. "I'm making you uncomfortable....sorry." She did sound it too, her eyes seemed to go soft and her face resigned.
Léan nodded silently and curled up again, resting his head on the seat and wrapping his arms around himself. He stayed quiet for a while longer, creating an awkward silence.
