"He possibly has a mate. I am not sure if it is still going well, but I want to check," Léan replied, contently. "I worry about my brother. He needs someone to take care of him."
Emy shook her head a little. "Ah, that's right. I keep forgetting you guys don't marry." She thought for a moment, then smiled a little. "You really are a good brother."
"Oh, no I'm not..." Léan assured her, scratching his head. "He thinks I am, but I'm probably not." He paused suddenly, then yawned, stretching his tail out. He seemed very relaxed.
Emy smiled softly and shook her head. "Just caring for your brother and wanting to help and take care of him, even a little, makes you a good brother." Her smile slowly slipped from her face. "Unlike me."
Léan frowned. "We are not going to make this into a self-esteem workshop for the both of us," he stated, firmly. "Let's change the subject something a tad happier."
Emy couldn't help but flinch slightly, but she nodded a little. "So...umm...I don't really know what to talk about..."
Léan was silent for a while as cars whizzed by. He closed his eyes. "I...what is music like in your world? Is it much the same as in ours?" he asked, finally.
Emy quietly watched the road as she drove. Then blinked slightly and glanced into the rearview mirror at him. "The music? Well, I'm not sure. I could turn the radio on for you if you'd like."
Léan looked curious at the mention of the radio. "A radio? What is that?" he asked, mystified. "Sure, if you want to..."
Emy smiled a little at his curiousity. "Here. I'll just turn it on for you." She switched on the radio and switched it to one of her channels. "Just tell me if you don't like the music. I'll change it again."
Léan seemed surprised that music could come out of that box. He watched it with insatiable curiosity, fascinated by it, as the music poured out.
Emy smiled. He looked so very out of his element, but he seemed to love it. "I would explain it to you, but I don't think it'd make any sense to you."
"It probably wouldn't," Léan agreed absently, closing his eyes and resting his head on the seat. He listened contently to the music.
Emy smiled, glancing at him in the rearview mirror. The content look he had made her feel happy, but she wasn't sure why exactly. She shrugged slightly to herself and watched the road, glancing at the clock. Wow...it hadn't even been an hour.
Léan listened for the music for a long while until he absently began to sing along to it. His kind had two forms of singing--the siren's song and regular singing that formed words. He was more fond of using his siren voice when he sang, but only softly. It still had the same strange effects on human ears.
Emy did love to hear his voice, but also focused on driving. She knew if she didn't she would crash and both of them would probably be killed. But, she didn't ask him to stop, not wanting to ruin his happiness.
It took Léan a few minutes to realize what he was doing. He abruptly stopped and cleared his throat. "My apologies, if I distracted you from what you're doing...I didn't mean to."
Emy smiled softly, a little lovingly without noticing it. Shaking her head slightly, very slow like. "No...its ok."
Léan sighed, relieved--he had been expecting to be reprimanded. "I am sorry. I'll try not to do it again." He quieted down, listening to the music tranquilly.
Emy smiled and reached back, patting his tail slightly, in a comforting way. "It told you it was ok. You don't have to keep yourself from singing if you really want to." She meant it.
Léan twitched at the touch--it seemed like a knee-jerk reaction to twitch or squirm when he was touched. "No, no...my throat is a bit dry, anyway..."
Emy pulled her hand back quickly at first, then slowly brought it back and set it on the wheel. She didn't want to offend him or anything. Ok, so no physical contact....got it. She smiled softly, though it was much less enthusiastic as before. "Alright, then."
Léan had noticed her reaction. "It is not that I don't like being touched, or take offense to it...I'm just no used to it," he amended, quietly. He hadn't wanted to upset her.
Emy shook her head slightly. "Its alright...I should have asked if it was alright first. I assume too much." She shrugged slightly, but anyone could tell that she felt like she'd done something wrong.
"I am simply not used to it. No need to feel like you've wronged me," Léan insisted, rather contently. He seemed adamant about that.
