Emy looked a little nervous. "Umm...ok...I'm gonna need to not be all...oh my gosh look at that...arent' I?" She thought that might be hard from the discription he'd given her of what the mer-cities looked like.
Léan seemed to sense what the problem was. "...If you want, I can go in alone...you can wait outside..." he offered, kindly. "If you think you won't be able to act naturally, that's all right. I understand."
Emy smiled softly. "That's...very kind of you.." She didn't really want to stay outside the place alone either...what if something happened? She just barely knew how to swim.
Léan gave her a funny look, like he was puzzled by her tone, then sighed. "I suppose we will just have to let you look at the settlement we find from afar for a while...I know there is a large city in the Gulf Of Mexico, very deep down..."
Emy blinked, then nodded slightly. "That might be a good idea..." Then she looked at him for a moment. "How far down?"
"Below a thousand feet. It's going to be dark." Merpeople could, for the most part, get around in the dark by themselves as long as there was a little tidbit of light. But someone with human eyes...
"It is very, very dark...you will need to hold my hand on the way down, I'm afraid...someone with your vision won't be able to see properly and will get lost," Léan revealed, quietly. |
Emy's eyes widened slightly once he was done speaking, then swallowed slightly and nodded. "I can stay with you. I'll hold your hand and go where ever you lead." She trusted him wholeheartedly.
Léan smiled and nodded. "All right. Marconium should fix your eyesight, but until then we have to be very careful. Erm...the city, since it's so deep down, will be covered in fluorescent light...fluorescent fish tanks line the outsides of most buildings. And, of course, they're used as lights...I supposed I should warn you, since we want you to act natural." He paused. "We should get something to eat, first. Do you want me to teach you how to hunt, or would you rather have me do it for now?"
Emy listened to him and nodded slightly, listening intently. She would remember everything. Then he mentioned hunting and she cringed slightly. "Umm....could you do it for now....please?" She didn't like the idea of doing what he'd done in the tank.
Léan took note of her cringe. "Stay here until I return, all right? There are more dangers in the water than you would think...I'll find some food..." He turned and gracefully swam away, in search of fish to eat.
Emy blushed a little and wathed him swim off. She knew she'd have to get used to it....there wasn't fire underwater, so they couldn't cook the fish...she'd have to eat if raw. Again she cringed...this was going to be hard.
Léan didn't take long. He returned about ten minutes later with two large fish, one for each of them. He'd taken notice of how she didn't seem so happy about this part of existence beneath the water, but it was necessary. He quietly held one of the fish out to her. "Your taste buds will have changed a little bit. Fish are an important part of a merperson's diet," he reminded her, pointedly.
Emy became alert again when he came back, but relaxed slightly when she figured out it was him. She'd been spacing out and could've been sneaked up upon by anything or anyone. She eyed the fish warily, then carefully took it.
Léan settled himself on some of the rocks and, without hesitation, bit into his fish. He'd been eating fish like this for all his life, after all. It was nothing new to him, and to him, fish tasted wonderful raw, as long as he didn't clamp down on any bones by accident.
Emy eyed her fish for a moment, then sighed and quickly bit into it. She didn't really like the squishness of it, but the taste wasn't as bad as she'd thought it would be. Maybe he was right about her tastebuds changing a little.
Léan watched her out of the corner of his eye. "If you want, you could try to find some sea plants to wrap fish in, and then eat it, if that would make it better..." he offered, absently. "I only wrap it in seaweed, when I can..."
Emy blinked, then shook her head. She then ripped off a piece and chewed slightly before swallowing. She had to eat it the normal way....she couldn't wrap it in plants all the time...so she needed to get used to it.
Léan hummed, then continued eating. He was finished rather quickly, since he was used to eating in this manner. Patiently, he waited for Emy. He would give her all the time she needed.
Emy soon realized that he had finished and was waiting on her. She hated making people wait for her, so she tried to speed up slightly. She finished about 10 minutes later, though...she couldn't really see how to get around the bones.
Léan had set the bones of his fish down on one of the rocks. The other creatures would take care of them, since he didn't really need them. He sighed, then stretched his tail out. "So, to the city?"
Emy looked over at him, then nodded slightly. "Ok.." Then she threw down her fish bones and swam up to him.
Léan was gauging the distance between them and the city, and concluded it wouldn't take long as long as they didn't run into any obstacles. He sighed, then steeled himself and offered his hand to her.
"Shall we?" |
Emy blinked slightly, then took his hand with a little smile. "ready"
Léan started his swim, holding onto her hand tightly. It didn't take long for them to breach the continental shelf and plunge into deeper water. The lower they went...the darker it got, and the more sea life they came across.
Emy swam beside him, holding his hand back almost as tightly. She didn't want to be dragged, nor be left behind. She looked around as they went along and a small chill went up her back as it got slightly colder and she saw more marine life.
