Tauna was floating all over the place, bored, as she looked around for something to do. Not many people took the tour of the house despite being a historical landmark. Must have been too cold outdoors or too hot. Either way, she didn't know. She enjoyed watching the people as they walked around. She always waited for them to show up as she never went outside. The curtains were drawn as well and she could not pull the cord. She sighed as she kept floating, her hair actually visible and moving behind her as if been blown by a slight wind.

Taya stood in front of the old Victorian house. This is where she would be staying for at least the next 4 years. She had been accepted into a collage in town as a history major and needed a place to stay. Friends of her parents owned the place, they ran a haunted tour of the manor, though lately business had been slow. They had a store to run so Taya was allowed to stay in the house while she attended classes, she just had to give the tour whenever she was in.
Taya walked up the steps and unlocked the door. Inside the house was chilly and a little dusty from lack of use. The house was furnished in the original furniture. She dropped her bags near the door and started to give herself a personal tour. Donna, the owner, said there was a caretaker's quarter's near the back of the house. "Home sweet home. Or as close as can be."

From the back of the house in the caretaker's quarters Tauna somehow heard the lock of the front door being unlocked. She turned herself around and listened again. Nothing... She couldn't see very far from where she was either. A few seconds later she heard something being dropped on the ground. She slowly and carefully, as to not to be seen, made her way to the entrance and spotted some bags which she suspected had been what was dropped. She knew then that there was someone in her house. Or what used to be her house. If there was a tour, the entrance would be full of bags and jackets so she figured this was an individual. She heard the voice then and was even more curious as she made her way back towards the caretaker's quarters in hoping of finding something not realizing she was making the area colder with each movement.

Taya opened the door to the caretaker's rooms. There were three in total, a small bedroom, a full bathroom and a common room where she now stood. It was sparsely furnished, unlike the rest of the house. The whole room contained a kitchen table, the usual kitchen items (oven, fridge, sink, cupboards), a desk and chair, a couch and a small tv. She walked around the room opening the drawers of the desk and checking the fridge for food.
The bathroom was stocked with towels bearing the house crest, There were a few bars of nameless soap and a half empty bottles of shampoo resting on a shelf by the big tub. Taya tossed the last into the garbage on her way out the door. As she passed trough the common room she shivered. "It's colder than I remember in here. Donna must have put the a/c on high. Trying to convince me there are ghosts in this house." She looked around the room for the controls and found none. "Odd." Taya walked into the bedroom and saw the full bed, dresser, mirror and closet but no a/c. "Ok, well maybe it's wired through the whole house."

Tauna was floating almost right behind the girl but above ground level near the ceiling. She watched with shyness as she entered her older brother's old bedroom. It was in the caretaker's quarters even though he wasn't a caretaker. It was the only room in the house left which he insisted on taking after he allowed her to use the small bedroom. He said it was comfortable with only a mattress on the floor. Her parents took the other room which by now was used for storage, the doorway hidden or blocked off by something. The kitchen was a lot smaller when she lived there and was moved to another location of the house, more near the entrance to the side she thought. Over the decades with the common room being unused, the previous owners had moved everything around. The mattress was either too old to keep or was put into storage and the common room became the new kitchen with improvements decade after decade. It wasn't her house anymore from the inside except her own bedroom. It pretty much stayed the same. The bathroom was a lot different, too. Mostly the items in it. They'd been improved, too.
She was so focused on looking around her house after noticing all these new things she didn't notice she had floated into her room and was laying on her bed under the covers making them float upward as if there was someone laying in the bed. She was usually up laying on the ceiling or in a light dish as the tours went on and she never really looked through her house at new things. She didn't even hear the voice.

Taya left the caretaker's rooms and wandered through the kitchen of the main house. The looked from another time. It was as if she had stepped back in time. Nothing looked out of place, except the layer of dust everything. "Dusting is the first thing on my list after unpacking. There has to be cleaning supplies somewhere." Taya exited the kitchen through third doorway and found herself in a grand dining room complete with chandelier . The long table was set for a dozen people who would never eat. The sight of it make Taya a little sad.
She continued through the room to a formal sitting room. There were low couches and wooden chairs facing a large fireplace and a piano in the corner. The more of this place Taya sat the more uncomfortable she felt here. It was as if the place had been abandoned in the middle of a party. No wonder Donna and her husband thought there were ghosts. They had created the perfect atmosphere for one. Taya moved through the room and back into the hallway where her bags were. Here she paused for a few moments deciding whether to go upstairs of take her things to her room.

Tauna heard the girl exit her bedroom and figured she hadn't seen the lump in the bed. She sighed a bit and got out of bed and wandered around some more. She spotted the girl in the main part of the house and watched her for a while. She wasn't sure what to do. Come face to face with her, try to get her attention somehow... She was so shy she didn't really want to be seen by anyone, but this girl felt different than the others. Somehow normal... No. Normal wasn't the word for it. She wasn't sure what the word was. She just knew the girl seemed like family or something. Not a person to invade or judge the house like the tourists were. Even the current owners would find something out of place and fix it. Tauna sat down at the piano bench and continued to watch from a distance as her curiosity grew. She actually wanted to meet this person, but again, she was too shy.

Taya walked over to her bags and fished out the folder stuffed with literature on the house and former inhabitants. Clipped on top of the folder was a map of the house. Donna had marked each room with a number and drawn a path through the house to show the tour route. The tour started in the room she had just left and circled around the house before heading up the stairs. Taya headed up the stairs slowly, realizing how eerily quiet the place was. Halfway up the stairs she turned and caught a glimpse of something in the corner of her eye.
She turned and craned to see into the sitting room. "Hello? Is there someone there?" She hurried back down the stairs and looked through the doorway. The room appeared to be empty. Strange. She was sure there had been someone sitting at the piano. Taya checked the front door, making sure it had locked behind her. Maybe it was just a trick of the light. She headed back up the stairs intent on seeing the rest of the house before dark.

Keeping her distance, Tauna slowly and carefully moved away from the piano bench as the girl walked up the stairs. She must have seen something as the girl took a double take. Tauna was now behind the piano peeping out from behind it slightly. Enough to not be seen. She waited till the sound of footsteps could be heard again coming from the stairs and worried about them. She knew one of the steps was broken or very cracked and another soon to break from more cracks.
She followed Taya up the stairs carefully and above her head to watch for any danger that may come. The steps may have been fixed since then, but she wasn't completely sure as she couldn't walk on them with pressure anymore. Plus it was a bit too dark to see them clearly from where she was. She knew that others have climbed them and seemed okay afterwards, but with each new visiter, the steps got more flexible or fragile in a way and could give way any day now. If that happened she wouldn't be able to help her. Except warn her of danger, but again... Shyness took over. She'd tried in the past to warn people, but only a high-pitched squeak was heard usually...
