"I can see why" Serena blurted out before going red with embarrassment. "I mean... um... well, uh... nevermind" she muttered before turning away from him to hide her bright red face.
Cormac snickers. "Ah, well." He doesn't seem embarrassed, or even shocked, really. He runs a hand through his hair before getting off the wagon and tying the horse to the pole. As he does, one of his sleeves slips down and what looks like cut marks are visible. He doesn't seem to notice the sleeve move.
The slip of the sleeve didn't escape Serena's eyes, neither did the cut marks. What happened? she asked herself, training her eyes on them. I can't very well go up and inspect them myself... nor can I just ask him what they are. Last I checked, those kinds of cuts are very personal... I'm not close enough to him to ask. If it is what I think it is... what pushed him to do that? she wondered, not noticing that she was slowly inching forward to the point that by the time her thought had ended, she was off the wagon and about a foot away from Cormac.
Cormac finishes tying the horse off as a blur of white attacks him, squealing. "Maaaaacy!" Cormac wobbles, rolling his eyes. "Cassiel. You're blind. Stop knowing that it's me!" The blur straightens up, looking like this: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/v...1DarkAngel.jpg. He giggles. "Aw, you love me, dear. You're being social!" He then spots Serena. "Hi! I'm Cassiel Deus, one of Cormac's self deemed followers." He puffs his chest out to look important. Cormac facepalms. "He's...a pain."
Serena blinks and basically stares at the new comer. She waved shyly "I'm... Serena, his... um... companion person... thing. Or more accurately, he's my... uh... travel guide" she introduced.
Cassiel claps. "That's sooo cuuute! Macy's got a giirlfriend." He hangs on Cormac, who just stares at him. "You're a lamprey. Off." Cassiel pouts. "Stop pickin' on the blind guy." Cormac snorts. "You picked me out of a crowd. Shush." He glances at Serena. "Help mee."
Unfortunately for Cormac, Serena's mind shut off when Cassiel called her Cormac's girlfriend. Her face switched to one of annoyance and she grabbed the fornt of Cassiel's shirt and pulled him down until they were nose to nose "listen, punk, I wouldn't date him if he was the last male period, including animals! Don't you dare suggest that I am anything more than a friend... if that" she growled.
Cassiel goes completely still and silent. His eyes, pure white, become unseeing. "Drop him," Cormac commands. "Now." He slowly backs away from Cassiel, never taking his eyes off of him. Cassiel doesn't move.
Serena blinked, rolled her eyes, and did as was commanded "whatever" she muttered and walked off in a direction, away from Cormac. She wasn't in the mood to be around him. Yeah, he was fun to be around with, yeah he was impecably gorgeous... but that was exactly why she wanted to be away from him. He wasn't human, and she didn't like the idea of being in love with a werewolf.
Cormac doesn't touch Cassiel, but instead watches as a sliver light comes over him and a vampire bat is in his place. "Cassiel. Don't." He grimaces as the bat lets out a screech to high for normal ears and bolts, barely missing Serena. Cormac groans. "And we wonder why I stay home," he mutters, looking tired.
Serena screamed and dodged to the side, tripping over her own two feet as she did so. Once she'd gained her bearings, she stared up at the bat with eyes wide with fear. She kept her jaw clenched and she didn't move, she wasn't the type to outwardly show fear... or any emotion. She sure as heck wasn't going to start now. Maybe I should've stayed home... right now... I don't know what's worse she mused as she watched the bat, waiting for her doom.
Cormac wanders over. "Cassiel. Stop it." He sound annoyed by this point and looks tired. After a moment the bat settles next to him and turns back into Cassiel. he doesn't look at Serena as he mumbles, "I meant no harm by what I said. it was a joke, you didn't need to grab me..." He shuffles behind Cormac, wrapping his arms around himself. Cormac stands there, tiredly.
By now, Serena's mind was too muddled to make any cohearant thought. She glared at both Cassiel and Cormac, got to her feet, and bolted away, ignoring the tears that were prickling her eyes. She ran and ran, not looking back. She had no clue where she was going, she just knew that she didn't want to be around either of them... though she was pretty sure she'd rather be around Cormac than Cassiel. She dropped to her knees when she reached a small pool of water. Gosh, I look horrible, she thought as she reached into the water to splash some onto her face.
"She went to the lake, we might want to go get her. We don't want her pulled in..." Cassiel mutters, sighing. "..." Cormac doesn't respond. "I give up. All I do is fuck up. I'm going home." He turns and heads back to the wagon. He sits in it and puts his head down. After a few moments, he's asleep. Cassiel frowns and heads to the lake. He stays pretty far away. "I'd be careful if I were you. There are water spirits that like to pull people in."
Serena whirled around at the sound of Cassiel's voice "go away. Leave me alone. There's a reason why I ran away in the first place! If they're going to pull me in, then so be it, at least I wouldn't have to deal with freaks like you and Cormac! I never thought I'd say this, but I actually want to go home. I'd rather go home and die by my father's hand, than stay here around people like you!" she accused.
"You're in love with Cormac," he states knowingly. "He's going to snap soon. And the snap is going to be him going to Angeni and letting her hurt--even kill-- him," he murmurs, his voice soft and calm. "And he will only blame himself if you die."
"I am not in love with him!" she argued. But, deep down, she wasn't so sure if that was true. "Besides, even if I was... what am I supposed to do about it? If he's so stressed out that that he's going to snap, then what in the world should I do about it? Even if I was in love with him, which I'm not, what difference does it make? He's not in love with me" she pointed out.
"Cormac...doesn't know what love is. The only person he loved was his sister, and that wasn't this type of love. But, he does have feelings for you. Or he would have left you a while ago. Nor would he have defended you like he did." Again, his odd knowing of things is creeping up. "And if you didn't have feelings for him, you wouldn't have tried to attack me, correct?" He rests against the tree. "And he believes that all he does is mess up. He said that after you left. Emotions scare him, so when a big wave of them, such as what he feels when he's with you, happens he freezes. Which is what has been happening lately, and that frustrates him. So, his answer is going to fight with one of the three people he blames for all of this. And he can't fight with two of them, seeing they're dead. So that leaves Ang."
(-stares- God, Cassiel babbled. Majorly. XD) |
Serena stared back at the water, at her reflection in particular. Her eyes were red from crying so much. She was in a strange new world... unexpectedly... and she didn't know what to do. It scared her. She got a handful of water again and splashed her face. She sighed and rested her forehead on her knee "you have a point, I do have feelings for him. But may I also point out that feelings of hate are also feelings" she pointed out with a sigh "I attacked you because I... I don't know anymore, it just all happened in an instant" she admitted. You do know... you just don't want to admit it. You don't want to admit that you're in denial, she mused. "Maybe we can come to a comprimise. I can go back and talk to him... telling him that I ran because I... because I was stressed from all of the sudden changes. Then I can tell him that's he's been doing a wonderful job, I just need to... no... that won't work, he'll follow me. Argh! Why is he so complicated!?"
Cassiel ponders her words. "I..think he will be fine if you explain just how difficult this is. He's lived here his whole life, so he doesn't understand the sudden change thing." He shrugs. "So, just talk to him."
Serena snorted a little, but stood up nonetheless. She faced Cassiel "sudden change is an understatement. If y'all were at least human, I might be able to handle this better. That said... how about you show me how to get back. I have no clue where I am, let alone in relation to where I was" she stated.
Cassiel nods silently. He headed back towards where they had been, passing it to go to where Cormac left the wagon. He stood over it and nodded to himself. "You can either wake him up or wait," he murmured.
Serena sighed and sat next to Cormac, hugging her knees to her chest "if what you say is true, about him about to snap... then I should just let him sleep, he's probably exausted" she commented. He looks so... peaceful, when he sleeps. it's almost like... he's human. Stop it, Serena. He's not human, don't go thinking he is because then you'll think it's ok to be in love with him, which it totally isn't! she mused.
"...That isn't to say his sleep will be peaceful, I remember when he found me he'd been having horrible nightmares." Cassiel frowns a bit at that. "I'm not sure if he still has them. But, he always gets odd after one."
Serena glared at Cassiel "if I simply must tolerate your presence, even for the time being, the please refrain from reading my mind. I think because I don't what it to be heard!" she snapped angerily. She glared at Cassiel for a moment before shifting her gaze to Cormac, it instantly softned. She reached out and started to pet his hair. A soothing action that she figured would soothe him as much as it soothed her. If what Cassiel said was true, which it probably was, then Cormac would need all the soothing he could get.
