I like it just fine and I rp here because I see rp's I like. If I need to spend real money to get to RP then I'm out of here! Stop charging us real cash to keep your shit alive and get it from people who actually have money to spare! You're turning into a second gaia only thinking of ways to make more money! Think of people who don't have money for a change and come up with stuff for them!

Inso: For an 18+ section, would this be considered a 'balls-to-the-wall' type of section for Roleplay? I would like to still see some/the majority of the site's role-playing rules still apply there. Such as flaming and harassment would still not be allowed. This would require a moderator team to make sure that these types of things are getting capped off quickly before a lot of people notice it.
In some states, and possibly countries, I know you must be 21+ to view Erotic material. Such as Utah, Idaho and I believe Arizona. That sense of control would be a tad bit more difficult to do per account. Though, it could create a legal issue that the site would probably not want to deal with. I am for, as well as against an 18+ area. I don't want to see role-plays that could be for all ages to be put into an Adult area only that will not have anything that would pertain to the roleplay to make it belong in there.. To me that could cause a segregation of 13-17 age ranges caused by the 18+ group. Aloriel You can do what is called 'Subscribing' to a thread. If you click on 'Advanced Reply' scroll down to additional options. There are two drop down boxes. The first one has multiple options. If you do not want an email (which I dont suggest doing in fast paced replies.. unless you check it at work and can't get on Menewsha) I suggest selecting the "No Email Notification." The second drop down box is the Folder you wish to put it in. Once subscribed you can go to the "My Account" on the tab and view all your subscribed threads.:) ---------- Quote:
I say these things because some people just do not report things. Does not make it right none-the-less for the environment Menewsha wants to portray to users. Especially if a poster in there has had issues with these things before. --------- And to Note one last thing: If this was to be a no-gold-earning area. Why would people expect to be treated different then Word Games? Word Games still gets corrections to it due to different types of things. Adults will be adults and act as so. This could involve lots of out of character "Go fuck yourself you stupid bitch" and other things to that effect. Then, the other wants to suck it up and not be thinned-skin so they do not report it. Is person A okay to say that to person B? |

I'm no mod but I've got to touch on this a bit ... Every event they run EVERY event has lodes of free EI's and commons, infact they have never run an event that required money to get the items. So don't go saying they don't do anything for the non-paying members. Hell there is an event going on right now with new event items you can buy with gold, not mennies but gold. Quote:

I heard a suggestion for more fonts, and I think that would be useful for those who play more than one character at once, because in really large roleplays it gets confusing.
I don't know how hard this would be to implement but maybe a link at the end of a users post that links to the character or characters profile they play in a roleplay? I think that would be useful for slow or really large roleplays. Again, I don't know if you could do that, though. |
I only have this much to say about the 18+ section for RPs: Any RP that strays into the 18+ area can easily be toned down enough to fit within within PG-13 guidelines.
If an RP absolutely requires explicit descriptions of sex and/or violence, then there is probably no need for it on a PG-13 site. All that being said, there is obviously a large group of people who feel it is necessary. Would there be any way to make 18+ threads and/or posts made in 18+ threads not show up when searching for a users posts? |

Insomniac: Excellent. I would hate to be going through a user's threads and find something incriminating.
|
I'd love an 18+ section, but it would make me sad if I didn't earn gold for it. Any way a mod could be appointed who didn't mind 18+ material?
That being said, I'd rather have it and not earn gold, than not have it. And I disagree with alonegirl-rocks-the-world: — I've written a lot of PG-13 material, and there's something to be said for allowing your characters to become explicit. Cutting to black doesn't always allow for characters to develop their relationships the way relationship in the real world develop during sex, or even during violence. And why do you write about finding something incriminating? There's nothing illegal about writing 18+ material involving characters who are of-age, with a RP partner who is also of-age. Regarding roleplaying here in general: it's the first forum site I've used; I used to always RP on LiveJournal, where things were just so different it's really hard to compare. For instance, the person running the RP would make a post setting the scene, and then characters would reply to that. It's just really different. I do wish we had more literate roleplayers interested in the material I like, but that's not really something the administration can do anything about. :) |
anime_scholar: I understand that. My opinion is merely that if people wish for their characters to develop relationships in an explicit manner, then they shouldn't attempt it on a pg-13 site.
I have nothing against 18+ Role-plays or anything of the sort and I'm not suggesting "cutting black" to avoid the messy bits. There are ways of someone losing arm without going into detail about every muscle being sawed through. There are places for more mature subject matter. Also: The incriminating point was more along the lines of "discovering a thread that deals with subject matter that may be offensive and/or illegal." One of the earlier posts mentioned something about how not every location allowed explicit material at 18. It would also keep underage users from just going to a profile and just reading someone's posts. |
alonegirl-rocks-the-world:: Well, I can understand your opinion. From my standpoint, as Menewsha is my main RP, gaming, and forum site, and I have a lot of great roleplaying friends here, I'd really like to be able to go into 18+ territory.
|
anime_scholar: I understand. :)
I have a feeling they will eventually make part of the site 18+. The replies from this thread alone show that there is support for it. |

On a serious note: That is one of those moral things. If they do not want to read Erotica, you literally cannot force them to. I think there is maybe one or two who would. Which can be overwhelming for a role-playing forum. |
I roleplay because it's fun and to improve my skill as a table-top GM.
I would like to see an 18+ section. As anime_scholar pointed out, some things cannot be fully described in PG-13 guidelines. How can you play in a harem RP without describing sex? How can you play in a combative RP with being able to describe the crushing of vertebrae or the evisceration of a mortal enemy? I would like to the following developed for RPs:
I would not mind paying $5/month for access to the 18+ area. Also, most people 18+ are working and have income (even college students), so $5/month is a very reasonable monthly fee for an "anything goes" area for mature people. Also, I don't see why, if moderators are already required for the 18+ section, the posters should not get gold for posting. It's not like an RPG in the 18+ section will be any less significant than in the PG-13 section. |

Second: no comment. Third:hmm..features..can't think of any. Forth: mennies..I would only buy that if it worth for me .. Fifth: I never roleplay on other sites, besides Menewsha. last: You're welcome..:) |

I personally find it nonsense to pay $5 for something as a 18+ board. I do agree that it will bring down the possibilities of cybering and what not. But still, not every 18+ year old can afford to pay $5 per month to be able to rp 18+ content. I sure can't afford it. Also I am terrified by the idea of an 18+ forum on a pg-13 site. It isn't a pg-13 site for nothing, right? And how will you guys make sure the people in that 18+ section (if it is here)are actually 18+? (I also think that this thread should be moved to the suggestion forum....) |
Role playing is, for me, an escape, therapy and practice writing. It can also be, sometimes, an act of social activism.
I choose to role play on Menewsha because of the overall stricter requirements for posting which seems to weed out a lot of the behavior that I feel ruins the atmosphere for me. The people are, for the most part, kind and considerate without being fake and the community has a good vibe. I have role played over at RPGateway and I may again in the future but what I really like about Menewsha is the variety. RPGateway is all about role playing but only about role playing and while I can see an advantage or two in that there are other forums on Menewsha that I enjoy frequenting. (Specifically quests and charity to help out others.) In the end I left Gaia Online because of the community's bad vibes and game economy but the quality of role playing had also greatly deteriorated. That being said, I would be interested in an 18+ section for role players but I worry that the quality of role playing in that section would be.. well, vastly inferior. Would it simply become the playground of amateur porn writers? What limits, if any, would be placed on what goes on in the 18+ section? A character database where people could create a generic profile for characters they use frequently and could link to would be interesting but I'm not sure about feasibility. It seems to me that it would require a lot more work than is really affordable. Other than that it's just a dice system for me. I think RPGateway only has ads but I'm not sure. |
Scribbled Lore: Could you elaborate a bit more on RPGateway for me? It's one of those sites I was looking at earlier and I'd love to hear more about it's features and users if you're got the time?

Yay! RPers are a nicely sized piece of Mene!
Dunno why I RP. I've always written stories though, and RPing is just writing stories, but with other people filling in some other details. I RP on Mene because no one on Gaia will RP with me anymore... I'm okay on the PG-13 thing, I can keep it in check, but it'd be nice to have an adult level RP with a couple of friends. Something where there wouldn't be paranoia about language or actions... Dunno about the lack of gold thing though, thought, that does make sense, what with possible spammers... Uhm, what kind of features would make an RP better? What about mennies for goals to be met, or something like that? As in, meet a goal and get 5 mennies or something simple. I don't really know. Thanks for making Mene a fun place to be, Inso! |

I mean - even a non-gold forum has to be moderated for violations and abuse of terms of service, and harassment, etc. There should be moderators going over all of that and reading everything ANYHOW. So I don't really understand why taking away the gold suddenly means you don't need moderators for the forum. If anything, I'd think you need very sensitive, specific kinds of moderators for that section who you butter up more because you love them so very much for willing to do this. People still will put threads in the wrong section, and mods will have to move them, etc - if it's a free for all, no one's going to be happy with it. It will need to be organized and moderated if it's going to be a GOOD 18+ forum. THAT'S why I don't understand why we can't have gold - because I can't fathom a non-moderated 18+ forum. :P |
I roleplay because I love creating stories of my own (well sort of of my mine). It is a story that I can influence, decide who the characters are, what they should do, and why. I chose Menewsha because I trust the friends that I roleplay with. They are excellent writers and have fabulous ideas, plots, and characters.
I myself prefer to write PG-13 only. I do enjoy reading good 18+ roleplays so it would be interesting for those who do like to write those to have their own space. I, though, like the PG-13. I don't have to worry about if the roleplay will eventually have to be placed higher in the higher rating. I really don't know if there is anything for the roleplayers that can cost mennies. As for what can make roleplaying better here, definitely agreeing with everyone who says we need a delete button. Delete would be so very helpful for ones like me. When I write IRL I go through tons of bottles of white out (since I don't use a computer to write). Delete button is something Menewsha should think about seriously putting in. I have roleplayed on Menewsha, Solia, and Gaia. Was not impressed with Gaia. The people I was playing with were not the best at it I believe, nor were they very friendly in the way they played. Solia is a different story. I really enjoyed my Solia roleplay. I still rp there. The atmosphere is similar to Menewsha and the people are just a nice. Plus they are very good in their writing abilities. As for the features they had that I liked, well, none for Gaia, but Solia's seems to me a lot like Menewsha's which is probably why I like it. Menewsha is the first site I have roleplayed on. |
