Dorian looked around the room, but he couldn't see what was trying to kill him clearly. He didn't care how odd the warning was, but he took it nonetheless. Taking hold of Aubrey's hand, he ran toward the misty figure in the room and flew through it. Dorian began to shiver violently as he came to a brief pause. It felt like his brain was on the fritz, but he worked through it to kick in another hole in the floor and mumbled, "Go Aubrey, I'll be right behind you." He groans and spoke louder, "Just go down there and then make a right. It'll lead you outside the gates of this place. Now go!" Dorian swung Aubrey around him and let her slip into the gap.

Aubrey, still in shock that Dorian had grabbed her hand, nodded and slid through the hole. She kept going andwhen she could, she took the right and was outside. She inhaled the fresh air. Where now? She wondered if Dorian was going to be alright. She wondered what exatly he was doing. |
Dorian looked back at the figure and dove into the hole in his room. He knew that the nurses and doctor would go looking for the psychic pair, but getting away from whatever was trying to kill him. As he rode through his tunnel, he tried to remember where he put his emergency bag on the opposite side of the home. Dorian shot out of the tube and landed next to Aubrey. "Damn, I didn't think that I was going to fall through like that. Anyway, glad you made it through safely." He stood up and dusted himself off as he turned and looked around for his possessions. After checking for a couple of minutes, he found a camping bag and walked over to his partner. "Okay so lets head that way. We can probably see about finding some help to fight whatever that thing was."

Aubrey jumped as Dorian was slammed down next to her. She cringed at the thought of how painful that looked. She didn't say anything. She was still trying to take everything in. She sighed and smiled up at him. "Thanks." She nodded and began to follow Dorian to who-knows-where.

Dorian walked to the east, knowing that this would be his best bet considering that the town wasn't too fair from them. When Aubrey said her words of thanks, the boy shook his head and said, "No, thank you. If it weren't for you, I'd be dead right about now." As the two walked next to each other, an air of awkwardness washed over Dorian. It came to a point where he couldn't bear it any longer. He looked around at the billboard that they'd passed up and mumbled, "So exactly what was that thing that tried to end me?" The words were sort of cautious, but then they were also entangled with confusion.

Aubrey looked to the ground. She let out a deep quiet sigh. "Well, I'm not sure exactly, but they've been following me everywhere I go. They go after the people closest to me. When I was little they didn't kill my father, but they took him somewhere. That's why I can't get too close to my mom because I'm afraid. Afraid that... they're going to take her away too. I don't know why they're doing this and I wish they'd leave my family and friends alone." She bit her lip as they kept on walking. "I'm really sorry. But those things are going to come back. Probably in bigger numbers next time."

Dorian had a serious look on his face as he tried to listen intently to Aubrey, but something was bugging him. Why was something like this happening to such a nice girl. His eyes were trained on her and he realized something that he should have noticed before. She called him her friend. "Well I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I promise I will do whatever I can to help you find him, but if that thing comes back with some friends, it's time to open up a can of kickass." The clairvoyant boy wanted to make Aubrey feel better about the whole situation, but there was no telling if he was making progress. Coming to a sudden halt, he felt like he disappeared into a void of darkness. His vision was shaken, a dull light shone on his face. He was in a room with uneven walls, it was a cave. Looking around, he saw little gears and pieces spread out on the floor and Aubrey was standing in the mouth of the cave, but then he was being pulled away from the vision. Dorian looked at his partner and gave a smile that told her everything was fine.

Aubrey shifted her eyes towards the ground at the awkward silence between them. She then laughed a little at his comment. Dorian, then, stopped. Aubrey looked at him, confused. He began to disappear from her and Aubrey immediately began to panic even though Dorian had given her the look that it was okay. This was definitely not okay. She was scared for him and she was alone.

Dorian looked at Aubrey apologetically because of his sudden disappearance. "I'm sorry, I didn't know that I would fade out like that. I thought it would be a simple glimpse with me near you, but the ones where I actually disappear are pretty rare. I'll try to control those," he said softly. Running to catch up with her, Dorian smiled and wrapped his arms around her shoulder. "Okay so I have a plan and I have an idea of where to go," he whispered to her.

Aubrey sighed of relief. She put her hand on Dorian's shoulder. "I'm sorry, Dorian, but that really frightened me.." She shook her hair from her face and looked up at him. She looked in his eyes and saw confidence in them. "Really? Dorian! That'd be awesome" She smiled widely.

There was something about the wide smile that made Dorian feel more serene. Maybe it was how well they were getting along in the past few hours. Aubrey appeared to be genuinely worried about him and he knew there would be moments where he might vanish into thin air. Those would be times that would cause problems for him. Motioning again, Dorian moved toward the town and eventually he passed a sign saying "Welcome to Parenlok." He turned back and smiled happily as they made it to the first part of their destination. After wandering through the city, he noticed a large store and he decided to go inside to get some supplies for their trip. Dorian turned back to his friend and whispered, "Okay Aubrey, this is what we have to do. We have to get a couple of flashlights, those energy-saving light bulbs and some other stuff. You get those two things and I'll get the rest. Got it?" He knew they had to get the essentials, but then they also needed to get some other things that would help make their tools more useful.

Aubrey followed closely by Dorian to a place with a sign that said "Welcome to Parenlock." She tilted her head as Dorian looked back at her. She finally understood that they had finally made progress to escape and never be found again by the nurses or anyone. They walked on and stopped by a large non-chain store. Aubrey followed him in. She listened to him carefully and nodded. "I can do that." She looked around the hardware section and grabbed two flashlights, seven packs of batteries, and five light bulbs. She, then, looked around more for other things they may need. Aubrey was, then, stopped by one of the employees. "May I help you find anything?" Aubrey shook her head. He looked at her more. "Are you sure?... Wait, haven't I seen you someplace?" Aubrey's eyes widened and shook her head. She didn't know this person and she began shaking. She wasn't sure why.

Dorian walked around the store, grabbing items left and right. Among his list of necessities was bread, peanut butter, jelly and a bunch of other things. After grabbing a couple of toothbrushes and toothpaste, he looked through the store for anything else that they would need, but there was nothing left. The boy wandered into the hardware department and saw a man who worked there, or appeared to, and Aubrey looking horrified. "Is everything okay, Aubrey? You look like you've seen a ..." he stopped, not knowing if it was possible for such a thing to happen at that moment.

Aubrey tooka step back and then saw Dorian come up to her. She was still stiff and she bit her lip. "Please," the man said. "I think I know you." Aubrey saw the featyres on the man's face shift into something horrid. Blood dripped from the top of his hairline down to his neck. The left eyeball had been mashed and pushed far into his socket and his nose was hanging by a skin-like thread. Aubrey's hands shook vigorously and she took off. She ran to the front of the register and hoped Dorian followed close behind. She looked behind her and saw no one. She looked back and the disfigured man appeared in front of her. She jumped in shock and fell on her behind. She couldn't move. It wasn't out of fear. It was something forcing her to not move. Fear swam in her eyes, as she tried to scream, but nothing came out of her mouth.

Dorian watched the scene with Aubrey and followed behind her as she ran out of the store. There was a figure that seemed to be a bit clear, more visible than the first ghost. There was almost a moment where no one was around to help the kids in distress and this bugged Dorian a great deal. He ran toward the antagonizing fiend and dove to tackle it, but the result was the boy falling to the ground and colliding with the ground. A groan escaped his lips and he turned around to check on Aubrey’s progress. “You think you can do something to stop that thing?” He said this as he staggered to his feet.

Aubrey stared up at the dead man and jumped as Dorian spoke to her. She looked behind her and said. "I... I don't know. I'll try." She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes. She concentrated very hard, which caused her to flinch and wince. A memory that was not hers, flew throug her mind. She saw the man in his normal form and he was putting away produce in the storage. He also put other things in the hardware section when an electric screwdriver turned on and fell on his face. Aubrey snapped back to reality and she looked back at Dorian. "I think I can do this." She nodded and closed her eyes again, concentrating as hard as she could. She saw the man disappearing in her head, fading into the whiteness. She opened her eyes and the dead man was gone.

Dorian stood in awe as he watched the figure disappear and Aubrey open her eyes. “Whoa, that was freaky! How did you do it,” he shouted hyperactively, walking next to her slowly. He stared at the spot where the spirit had been until he could have burned a hole into the ground. He knew that these incidences were to pose problems for the teens. “So are we going to go back in the store to get the stuff or do we leave without it,” he asked absentmindedly with a small smile.

Aubrey shook her head. "I have no clue how." Her eyes were still widened, bit soon went back to normal size. She exhaled and answeredhim. "We probably should go back and get the stuff. After all, the sonner the better right?" She smiled at him and led him to get the supplies they needed.

Dorian returned Aubrey’s smile, while nodding his head energetically and following her into the store this time. As they made it back to the aisle where they left their items, he looked around warily. He knew that it would be his duty to protect his friend. So reaching out, he grabbed a hold of her hand and placed his other one on the basket so he could push it to the check-out counter. There was a strange feeling holding onto the girl’s hand, it seemed kind of right. Once they made it to counter, the cashier grinned at the pair and rang up all of the items. “So what are all these things for?” Dorian smiled and replied as thought he had the line rehearsed, “We have a project that we have to work on for school.” The cashier seemed to buy the excuse and pulled up the price. The cost of all the supplies reached a total of $228 and giving the woman the money, he pushed the basket outside. “So, tell me about yourself, Aub,” he said laxly.

As dorian held onto Aubrey's hand her heart began to bounce a bit, but was content with it after a while. She smiled as they picked out the things they needed. They went to the cashier and he asked what they had needed all this stuff for. Aubrey could feel her cheeks and ears burning at the question. Luckily Dorian had come up with a nice excuse that the cashier believed. Aubrey seemed kind of shocked at how Dorian had all that money to pay everything, but she decided it best to not ask questions until later. He, later, asked a question that she wasn't expecting out of him. She thought for a minute "Well, at my old school I was labeled as the girl who didn't talk much. I went to a christian school, so we were never labeled based on clothing because we all wore the same thing. That stupid uniform. I never really had friends. My mom was always closest to me through the bad times after Dad had disappeared. To sum it all up, I am a quiet girl with ghost issues who loves her mommy." She half smiled and looked at him. "What about you?" she asked. "What's your story?"

Dorian nodded quietly as he listened intently to Aubrey’s life story. He began to laugh when she spoke disdainfully about the school uniform she had to wear at the Christian School, but stopped when she mentioned her father again. Thinking about his own parents, he wished that they would have taken care like Aubrey’s mother had. Then it was the young man’s turn to talk about his life and he shook his head slowly. “It’s not much a story to be honest. I was classified as a troublemaker,” he said nonchalantly, coming to a halt with pushing the basket. Dorian realized that his hand was still melded with Aub’s, but he really didn’t feel like letting it go, becoming comfortable with their hands being intertwined. He continued with his tale with a slight cough, “Well, I wasn’t the most loved by the authorities and those people. Then my parents thought that I was crazy because of the whole precognitive process. They said I made myself think I could see into the future.” With another shrug, he placed his hand back on the basket and ventured toward a secluded alley.

Aubrey listened as Dorian spoke about his past. She tried to smile in understanding, but couldn't. She couldn't stand to think anybody being put down like that. She bit her lip as they turned into the alley. She looked up at him. She really wanted to embrace him and never let go. She didn't know what it was, but she was somehow attracted to him. She shook her head. No. She couldn't let her feelings get in the way. Not again.

Dorian looked down at Aubrey when he stopped the shopping basket near a dumpster. He didn't know exactly what was going on in Aubrey's head, but he could see it heavily affected her. "Are you okay?" He squeezed the hand that was occupied by Aub's and tilted his head, staring at the worry lines on her face. "I think we can stop here, you can rest for now while I work on the things. Don't know what to call it, but if it comes out right we should be able to protect ourselves." Dorian said this with a reassuring smile.

Aubrey let his hand go. She nodded and sat herself down. Her legs were about ready to give out anyway. "I'm alright." She watched him. "Is there anything you want me to do though?" She asked.

Dorian began to take the objects out of the basket, some were food and others were parts for whatever he was supposed to put together. He stuck his tongue out thoughtfully as he tried to connect an energy-saving lightbulb to a rather large flashlight. Aubrey started talking to him and while still being focused on the mismatched weapon, he answered, "Um ... I'd rather that you try to eat something right now. Don't know how long I'm going to be working on this thing. Matter of fact, I don't even know what I'm supposed to be building." Putting the flashlight down, he rubbed his eyes and sighed. "We've got our work cut out for us if we are going to travel. Are you sure you want to do this," Dorian asked, quietly. |
