Agatha

Agatha does not seem to react to Ling's thank you, or her lack of sincerity. Her attention turns to her Eleanor, though her body language changes little.

Welcome to the inn. If it had a name, I would be glad to tell it to you.
Agatha feels around for the drawer of keys and opens it. She pulls out the first key that makes itself known to her and places it on the counter.
You'll be staying here tonight. It's not a question.

Mika is quite correct. Agatha begins to feel around for the tea kettle again. If you are headed anywhere in particular, you should leave before you take the key. After that, I cannot assure you the inn will allow you free passage in and out.[/color]
----------

Anika

Anika frowns at Tindwyl. She makes polite noises without adding to anything Tindwyl has to say; deciding to hopefully end the conversation there.
Partially to herself she adds,
I'm from the House. Well, Taraque, actually. But I've been staying in the House. Maloch takes me all sorts of weird places. Anika says this with a hint of bitterness.

Anika gets up when she notices Agatha trying to make the cocoa. She rushes over to help.
----------

Agatha
I can handle myself just fine, darling. Agatha snaps.

----------

Anika
I... I know. But you've been doing everything. I really ought to be helping.
It's quite obviously not why she's helping.
----------

Agatha
If it will calm you, darling. Agatha relents.

Scribbled Lore 08-01-2010 07:24 PM

Eleanor

Now she knew the man's name and the name of the strange creature but the others had yet to be made known to her. She picked up the key that the older woman had placed on the counter and examined it rather closely before slipping it into a pouch that hung off her red and gold braided belt.

All of this, she said, sweeping her hand to gesture to the occupants of the inn and the inn itself, reminds me of my own inn. If I may.. where were you all headed before you found the inn?

Meguzu 08-01-2010 07:34 PM

Tindwyl
Tindwyl turns back to Anika. Maloch? Who the hell is Maloch? I assumed you worked for her. Tindwyl gestures vaguely in Agatha's direction.

When neither Mika nor Ling speak up to Eleanor, Tindwyl sighs heavily. I never got elected to f---ing spokesperson. We were trying to get back where we came from. But I'm not travelling at night in a strange forest. And Ling doesn't like the dark or some s---, I don't know.

Ling
Giving a tiny um to catch attention, Ling pulls another sharpie out of the seemingly bottomless pockets of her hoodie, propping the board on her lap when she's done. I don't think I can walk all night. We were out there all day and my glasses are a little scratched...anyways it shouldn't be too hard to get back if we can find the river. After a moment she adds, I'm Ling. Hi. Sorry I don't talk very well.

Nolori 08-01-2010 08:36 PM

Agatha

You own an inn? In the morning, may I ask you to try your hand at opening the cellar door? I can feel the handle is... wrong. Anika says it is woefully broken. But if the door is at all like your own inn, perhaps you can tell us how we might get past it.

I am not entirely certain where I was headed, though I think the inn might have been my destination. I was searching for something rather... insubstantial, so to speak.

----------

Anika

Anika finished the cocoa and hands it to Eleanor. Maloch? Oh, oh I mentioned him didn't I? He's a... friend. I guess. Maybe 'family' would be a better description. I can't really get away from him, after all. She gives a half-hearted laugh.

I was just going wherever it was Maloch wanted to go. He stopped here. So, I don't know, maybe here is where he wants to be. I don't know for sure. He didn't explain it.

Anika stops in order to read Ling's whiteboard. There's a river around here? I didn't see one. But, I guess I didn't go out very far. Anika gives a small frown. If you stay all night you might not be able to find your river again. I've only been here one night where I woke up in the same place. Usually the inn moves when we're asleep. She pauses. Wow, that probably sounds really insane. I'm just trying to warn you. I don't want you to be stuck here, is all.
----------

Agatha

Don't worry for your pride so much, darling. If they stay, they'll see soon enough.

Meguzu 08-02-2010 01:25 AM

Tindwyl
As always, her face seems to alternate too quickly between expressions, but with the goggles, it's hard to tell exactly what those expressions are. And he just left you here? What a prick. I mean, unless he's in your room or something.

Ling
Ling erases the whiteboard with her sleeve. Well there's a river that goes through the City. If we wander back the way we came we should find it.

Mika
Mika snorts. We thought we were wandering back the way we came when we ran into this...place.

Tindwyl
To Anika's concerns, Tindwyl smirks, stretches, oddly catlike. I'm not worried. We don't have to be back where we came from anytime soon anyways. And we know the area around it. If we hit the ocean we walk north, if we hit the mountain we walk south.

Ling
Ling looks unconvinced. We could go farther. Or lateral. How're we going to get back if we go lateral?

Tindwyl
She looks at Ling with something like boredom. 'S better than staying in the City your whole existence. We'll get back somehow, don't worry about it.

Mika
From the discomfort on his face, he clearly isn't happy with the situation. However, he doesn't seem to be about to move. He looks at Ling with raised eyebrows and then goes back to his tea.

Ling
Without Mika's support, she sets down the whiteboard, takes her glasses off to clean them, her expression defeated. Then they're staying.

Scribbled Lore 08-02-2010 01:58 AM

(( Did I read correctly on the first page that Maloch was present or do I need to retcon my post that refers to him? By the way, interesting tidbit.. Anika's last name is my last name IRL. :XD ))

Eleanor

Eleanor listened quietly to the conversation going on around her as she sipped her hot cocoa. To the older woman she spoke, saying, Of course, anything I can do to help, Grandmother..?

Nolori 08-02-2010 06:14 PM

((OOC: @Scrib: Seriously? You have an awesome last name. I approve! Also, yeah Maloch is here. It’s just that he’s inside Anika’s body. Possession and all that. Anika just doesn’t like to talk about because it makes her sound crazy. Not that it matters now! -evil laughter-))
----------

Anika

Well, I don’t think the inn can keep us forever. We’ll all get out eventually and after that we get out of here we can just go back home. I can’t imagine it will be hard once we’re outside.
There are maps outside and all.
----------

Agatha

Agatha smiles at the term. I don’t know anything about running an inn, darling. If you feel the need to do something for the inn, you are welcome to do so. I’m only behind the counter because I arrived here first. She gives a soft laugh.

----------

Anika

Anika turns her attention to Tindwyl. Oh, oh Maloch’s… around. He’s here, he just doesn’t say hello often. She squirms uncomfortably. It’s not particularly… pleasant when he does. You’ll probably meet him eventually. She adds this last sentence as though it’s an apology.

The color in her eyes fades very quickly. Her lips twist into a far more self-assured smile, which looks displaced on her face. When she speaks, her voice is much lower.

Maloch

Was that an introduction, sweet? It wasn’t a very good one. Anika’s body bows and sticks out her hand to Tindwyl. I’m Maloch. When the next fog comes I’ll be glad to give you a more appropriate introduction.

----------

Agatha

Leave the poor girl alone, Maloch. You’ll have plenty have time to harass the guests later.

----------

Anika
Maloch
You, ma’am, are a killer of joy. I’ve already spent centuries of boredom that I cannot begin describe.

----------

Agatha
Then you can wait another day.

Meguzu 08-02-2010 06:53 PM

( OOC - She'll have better luck here than she would anywhere else! Mika knows well the vagaries of having somebody else in your head. I approve of your last name also, Lore 8D Is it spelled the same way? With the accent? I'm fascinated by names with accents P: YOU ARE SO SPECIAL )

Tindwyl
Tindwyl's version of confused is tinged with a little annoyance. She leans on the counter, regarding Anika with a slim eyebrow raised. What? Could you be a little more vague? If you don't want to explain you can just say so.

An uncharacteristic smile slips across Anika's face. Tindwyl recoils a little, adjusting the opacity of her goggles automatically with one of the tiny dials lined up on their thick arm; the lenses fade several smooth shades darker, obscuring her eyes completely.

Uh. What the f--- are you.

Mika
Mika looks up with only brief interest, draining his teacup, before turning back to Agatha to quietly ask for another mug.

Scribbled Lore 08-04-2010 11:17 PM

(( It is spelled the same way and with the accent as well! :D ))

Eleanor

Eleanor had been hoping to find out the older woman's name in that brief exchange but alas! Apparently that was not to be; she'd be content with addressing the woman as Grandmother, as one should respectfully address their elders, but that left her at a loss as how to address the others.

To Agatha she spoke: I'd be happy to see to the inn's needs starting first thing in the morning. Meaning no disrespect, Grandmother, but it's been a long day for me.

During Maloch's bout of impulsiveness she eyes him, in the poor girl's body, warily but she says nothing. Instead she chooses to wait until after Maloch's interaction with the other woman and then speaks to the group as a whole. Excuse me, but I don't think I caught all of your names earlier. Do you mind if we do introductions? Properly, of course, and I'd be happy to start.

My name is Eleanor Kingston and I've just recently left my inn in the charge of my apprentice in order to travel and give the kid a chance to make his own mistakes. It's a pleasure to meet you all.

Nolori 08-05-2010 07:08 PM

(Ooc: In other news! Megu is gone until the 15th, so it's just you and me until then.)
----------

Anika
Maloch
Maloch, which I do believe I've already said, Miss...? And I don't have any deffinable purpose now, so what I am is really of no consequence. You needn't worry yourself with it. I have no interest in making my home in other bodies. It's far too much of a hassle.

His attention turns to Eleanor. This, he points to Ankia's face is Anika. You'll be stuck with her more often than not. She's not quite so boring when you've gotten to know her. He smiles, as though this is a joke.

----------

Agatha
There's certainly no hurry, Eleanor. You need not hurry. the inn isn't going to. After the short exchange with Maloch, Agatha continues. I'm Agatha. Agatha Maine. I suppose I've been rude for not introducing myself earlier. You have my apologies. This places seems to have taken basic social skills from me.
Agatha gets Mika his second cup. His calm, despite the situtation, was a was comforting to have.

----------

Anika
Maloch
You didn't have many to begin with. He laughs again. I remember when you were still very young. Running about all over places you had no business being. I suppose it didn't help that no one was watching you. That woman who tried to keep you fed was far too worried about her getting to her next drug induced coma.

----------

Agatha
Her voice tightens. ... Excuse me? How do you-?

----------

Anika
Maloch
Maloch interupts her. Anika is getting restless in here. I'll see you all when the fog comes next. Maloch's eyes disappear and Anika's darken in their place.

Anika puts a hand on her head and curses under her breath. I'm... I'm sorry. He just... does that sometimes. Not usually. I try to not let him. I'll try harder. I'm sorry about all of that. I... I think I'm going to head to bed.
----------

Agatha
Perhaps we would all do well with some sleep.

Scribbled Lore 08-07-2010 12:08 PM

(( Are we going to move on to the characters heading to bed and the inn changing location without Meguzu? Or do I/we need to stretch out heading to bed until Meguzu returns? ))

Nolori 08-07-2010 07:08 PM

((Ooc: I was figuring we'd deal with the actual night until Megu gets back and just say her characters slept through it. I'll wait for Megu to come back before I lift the fog to a new location. So Eleanor can take a look at the cellar door if you'd like, or I can edit my post and add something else she might be interested in seeing.))

Scribbled Lore 08-07-2010 08:59 PM

(( Someone I know is interested in joining the RP. I'll have him get on tonight and do the necessary for his character. I will post after supper - about 20-30 minutes from now.))

Scribbled Lore 08-07-2010 09:30 PM

(( Please let me know if I need to correct any details in my post. Eleanor is not going through the doorway that leads to the cellar in this post - I just wanted to clarify incase someone misread the post. ))

Eleanor

The witch quietly finished her hot cocoa and instead of setting the mug on the counter she got up from her seat and made her way behind the bar counter. As she walked past Agatha she said to the older woman, Grandmother, I'm taking care of my mug myself.

There were cabinets above and cabinets below but Eleanor knew there had to be a kitchen somewhere. So she slipped through a doorway and behold! She had found the kitchen - a very clean kitchen that looked practically unused - which caused her to squint as she readjusted her eyesight. The motes of magic were a little overwhelming.

I knew there was something.. odd.. going on here, she whispered to herself.

Nolori 08-07-2010 10:35 PM

((Ooc: Fantastic! New people! And there's a puzzle-y thing at the cellar door, so don't worry no one can get in it right now.))
----------

Agatha

Thank you, darling. I-'ll Agatha is cut off and twitches slightly as Eleanor finds the door to the kitchen. New walls. Agatha says quietly. What is it? I... I suppose I should no longer be surprised by anything the inn does. Or anything you wish it to do. It seems to be awfully accommodating when it wants to be. Is everything... alright in there? She has a worried tone in her voice as she calls out to Eleanor in the other room.

----------

Anika

Anika heads up stairs, mumbling a 'good night', and holding her head.
----------

The Inn

The fog begins to intensify around the inn. The area outside waves between the field and a thick gray that washes over everything. The door opens and closes slowly, as though it cannot quite decide which it prefers. The fog seeps through the open doorway and the small places between the wooden panels. The inn has made no indication of movement yet, but it is clearly coming soon. Beneath the inn is a loud rumble, like a great beast settling into sleep. It is hard to hear, but it can be felt as the inn reverberates with the breaths of the sound.
----------

Agatha

I do not trust this place. Agatha says, feeling her way to do the kitchen entrance. It has seen many things, but I cannot make sense of any of them. It's as though it can't be sure what it's seen has actually happened or not. Can you tell?

----------

Maloch

I'm sure she can. As well as you, at any rate.
Maloch's voice does not appear to be coming from a body. When the fog seeps in through the panels, his body is nearly visible as a dark form wherever the fog is touching. When the fog has receded, Maloch's form and voice do as well.
You've more experience with this than the average person, I would wager. If not the inn, than something similar. What are you, then? A mage? A scholar? Child of a daemon? Whatever you might be, I do hope you're not here treasure-hunting. We've had them before.

----------

Agatha

We?

----------

Maloch

I've had them before. Here. It's never ended well. For any involved.

----------

Agatha

You haven't given the others so much trouble. You ought to tend to Anika, for all the trouble you put the girl through, instead of spending your time harassing Eleanor.

----------

Maloch

Anika is a big girl, she can take care of herself. That's beside the point. I'm not worried about the others, save the big albino, but I'll have time for him later. At the moment, I'm concerned with Miss Eleanor here.

----------

((More Ooc: I hope you don't mind that Maloch can tell! He's good with the whole 'magical people' thing. Also, it just kind of seemed like a good base for future stuff. =] ))

Scribbled Lore 08-07-2010 11:06 PM

(( I would totally expect Maloch to be able to tell. So, yeah, no I don't mind at all! ))

I'm not a treasure hunter, Maloch, though I do think the inn is a treasure in and of itself. There's obvious admiration in her voice. Eleanor washes the mug and puts it away in a brisk manner; the kitchen isn't completely modern like the world Eleanor comes from. Rather it's like an old fashioned country farmhouse's kitchen and the sink is fed by well water. There's a wood burning stove with a stack of wood beside it that the witch doesn't think will ever diminish - no matter how cold it may be outside and how much wood they have to burn to stay warm. Off to one side there's a doorway leading into a cold room where butter, milk and the like would be stored.

Everything is fine, Grandmother, and for your information, Maloch, I am a witch. Eleanor wrinkles her nose up, continuing to speak, A naturally gifted witch with an itch to learn. I'm also not too bad at mending both body and clothing.

Nolori 08-08-2010 03:21 AM

Maloch

Well at least you'll be useful. Good with mending this? Maloch points to his head, but his shadowy form is so loose that it's hard to see. Realizing this, Maloch explains. The head? The mind? That would probably be more useful. Gods know that's what got the others.

----------

Agatha

What others? How long have you been here? How long have you kept Anika here?

----------

Maloch

I've been everywhere that matters. Twice. Anika hasn't. And, accuse me all you want, seer, but you've been here far longer than she has.

----------

Agatha

She only came a day after me.

----------

Maloch

Maloch doesn't respond to that. And she's the safest one here, thanks to me. You can stop your accusations any time.
His attention turns back to Eleanor. As for you, Miss Kingston, I'm glad that you like learning so much. If you're here long, you'll find plenty to learn. Though I've yet to meet anyone who was particularly pleased about it. Except me. His smile is audible in his voice.

Corporate Zombie 08-08-2010 12:40 PM

Asbjörn

A quiet grunt, as of some small effort, resounds from outside the inn just as Asbjörn hops through the door. His keen eyes scan the room to take the measure of the present company and in the process narrowly avoids a bashed elbow as the door continues to flap beside him. Startled, he moves a couple paces farther from the door, steadying the sword at his waist as chain mail clinks under his overtunic, and tentatively opens his mouth to speak. Greetings, fair gentles. He pauses, considering his words carefully. I have been traveling for many days and seek lodging. May I find it here?

Scribbled Lore 08-08-2010 12:55 PM

Eleanor

She listened carefully to what Maloch was saying trying to make sense of it all. Minds I cannot fix but brains I can.. and for that matter, Maloch, if you've ridden this ride twice now you ought to be able to forewarn us of the perils. Eleanor wasn't about to tell Maloch that he was creeping her out. Just then there came a thud and clank from the main room and the witch popped her head out through the doorway to see what was going on.

There in full armor there stood a man looking a bit confused. Eleanor boggled at what she saw and started laughing.
Oh! He looks as though he came from a history book! Grandmother Agatha, come and see our newest guest.

He did indeed look like he came from a history book and, perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the very history books Eleanor herself owned.

Nolori 08-08-2010 06:02 PM

Maloch
Pity. Maybe the big albino can. There's something wrong in his head too. Maloch gives a hollow laugh when Eleanor mentions warnings. That's not my job, miss. My job is to make sure it doesn't leave it's little hole in space and time. What it does to the lot of you isn't my concern.

----------

Agatha

Agatha tilts her head towards the sound of the new comer. The inn welcomes many strange people. You were lucky not to have been lost in the fog, young man. I would typically suggest that you move on from here as quickly as possible, but I worry that the fog is becoming too thick for any safe traveler.

----------

Maloch

I wouldn't call it unsafe. Physically, I can't imagine it would hurt at all.

----------

Agatha

I'll get you a key to a room. Agatha goes to the drawer and pulls out the next key. It will be just up the stairs. I have to ask that you not disturb room... what room is Anika in, Maloch?

----------

Maloch

3A. You'll steer clear of it, if you know what's good for you.

----------

Agatha

She hasn't had the best of days, today. Before you go to your room, I would like to apologize if you are traveling anywhere important. You won't be getting there any time soon.

----------

The Inn
As though in agreement with Agatha, the door shuts completely. Fogs seeps through any crack or opening it can find. Maloch's form becomes mostly visible, if wavering, as a tall shadow of a humanoid figure. Beneath the floor there is another rumble of sound and a groaning of wood. The inn shakes for a brief moment and gravity momentarily becomes confused. It settles soon enough, leaving the travelers with an odd sense of lifted weight, but they do not fly.

Save for Maloch, who never appears to fully be on the ground.

Corporate Zombie 08-09-2010 12:11 AM

Asbjörn

Asbjörn clenches his jaw at the sound of laughter. He is generally a man of fair humor, but mockery is rarely, if ever, tolerated in his land. He turns his eyes toward the older woman, his stern gaze softening imperceptibly. I am grateful for your hospitality, good lady, and will be certain to avoid disturbing a denizen of this establishment. He approaches the bar to scoop up the key with a leather-clad hand and glances warily to the tenebrous form that is so protective. But I must implore you further. He raises his gaze to meet Agatha's eyes, only to notice, rather surprisingly, that she is quite blind. I am aware of the untimeliness of my request, supper, of course, being long past, but is there still aught that is fit for consumption? He nearly starts as the door shuts, his mind having so recently become accustomed to the racket.

Scribbled Lore 08-10-2010 12:35 AM

Eleanor

Eleanor quickly sobered after her initial bout of wonderment and bemusement; as a sort of apology for laughing at the poor man, she curtsied to him and spoke to him saying, I'd be delighted to fetch you a meal, kind sir, if you'll forgive my nervous laughter. It's been.. quite a day for me, so far.

With that she turned back through the doorway of the kitchen calling out over her shoulder, Grandmother, would you like a midnight snack as well before we all retire? For that matter would anyone else like a snack?

Nolori 08-10-2010 07:58 PM

Agatha

Agatha smiles at Asbjorn's speech, but she turns to the violent slamming of the door instead. Her smiles fades.

Thank you, Eleanor, but no. I'm quite fine. I'll be off to bed, myself. Unless you feel at all uncomfortable with being left with Maloch.

----------

Maloch

Uncomfortabele? That hardly seems fair. They don't even know me.

----------

Agatha

That's the issue.

----------

((Ooc: Agatha and Maloch apparently have nothing to say! Sorry. Just posting to move it along, then!))

Meguzu 08-11-2010 12:48 AM

(( Wi-fi seems to be constant enough where I am that I think I can rejoin you guys =D I won't post until the night wraps up, but just to let y'all know. Hi Corporate Zombie! ))

Corporate Zombie 08-12-2010 12:34 AM

((Hello, Meguzu!))

Asbjörn

Bread and mead should be fine, lady. Some of the leftover meat, if you have it. Asbjörn eyes Eleanor suspiciously, his jaw settling into resolve, as she disappears into the kitchen. By the flaxen tresses of Snotra, he mutters. There be strange folk abroad. He withdraws from his belt, behind his back, a small, bearded hand ax and places it upon the bar in front of him. He then plops onto a barstool with a muffled clink. Fumbling around in his belt pouch, he begins to speak again. The welcome I have received this night, in so strange a place, has been both unexpected and great. For that I must again give thanks, and also repayment for I will be indebted to no one. At that, he extends one hand to Agatha, displaying the bow and arrow shaped brooch wrought of gilded brass wire, and eventually places it on the bar with a loud clack. It is the symbol of the warrior god Höðr. He watches over the blind that they not be susceptible to the trickery that befell him.
