Ares waited until all four of them were in the room before he turned to look at them. "I'm Ares, in case you don't know me already. I'm here to make you slightly less confused." He smirked.
Nika twitched with the urge to punch the god, but she restrained herself. "Ares..." Ares let out a huff that was half-exasperated and half-amused. "I'm getting there," he said to Nika. "You three are here to help her find these two people." He pinned up two pictures on the board he and Nika had set up in the living room. "The first one is Jake. He was looking after South America, and he vanished a month ago. This girl is Yi-Ling. She was in charge of Africa. She went missing two days ago on a routine hunt." "Two days ago?" Callyx frowned a little. "Shouldn't you have known about it sooner?" "I might have, except that my kin have a habit of going on hunts and not reporting in for a few days. I was only able to determine for certain that she was missing early this morning." Callyx fell quiet at that. |
Althea listened to what he said carefully, she wasn’t sure how she felt about the matter, but they were people and they deserved to be searched for “I want to know, why it’s us” She said. They were all so different from each other, power wise, and personality wise, so why were the four of them paired up with each other?
Zarek glanced over at Althea when she spoke, it almost sounded like she said it in a kind of rude manner, and messing with a powerful god probably wasn’t a smart thing to do. He nodded, well at least he would be able to say he helped people that would be a plus to it all. |
Ares blinked once behind his dark glasses. "Why you four? Well, Nika naturally because she's one of mine," he said easily. "Althea, I chose you because I thought you'd be a good influence on these three, fairly calm and even-tempered. Besides which, I've heard good things. Zarek, you were basically just chosen to help and make sure everything got done, keep a clear eye on things. And you, Callyx, are one of the biggest assholes I know that's not a god, so I figured you'd find some way to do something here. Besides which, it's just fun to throw you all together and watch you work." He grinned.
Nika rolled her eyes, used to his antics. "Ares, come on. Seriously. Case here." "You, dear girl, need to lighten up some." Ares shot her a mildly reproachful look. "Anyway, I can take you all there now or I can have a private jet ready for you later today." "To go where?" Callyx demanded. "The last place Yi-ling was seen, of course." |
“It still doesn’t sound like we’d make that great of a team” She said a bit skeptical “We’ve all come from different backgrounds, powers or not” She said. They might not even mix well together. She glanced over at Callyx, when Ares said he was one of the biggest assholes he knew that wasn’t a god; she had never seen the side of him that came off as an asshole was he pretending to be nice as some sort of act or something? Then turned her attention back to Ares “Did you, ever consider the fact maybe we didn’t want to do this?” She asked, she had come because her mother had forced her into it basically, saying it was her duty or something like that.
Zarek glanced over at Althea, she was either really brave or really stupid to be asking questions like she was, but then again he was interested in the answers to, he just didn’t want to be the one that accidently said something that pissed Ares off, besides he kind of wanted to help them out now, people’s lives were at risk he wanted to help them if he could. |
Ares shrugged. "Yeah, I know," he said. "I'm well familiar with the fact that you don't want to do this, don't want to be here, wah wah wah. Don't complain and just get the job home, and then you can get back to your precious normal life with your precious friends and family and pretend none of this happened. The sooner you get done, the sooner you get to go. Capiche?"
Nika couldn't help but snicker just a little at the fact that someone else besides her was getting reamed by Ares. |
Althea looked at him and raised an eye brow "I don't remember bitching about it, and you know since you want us to help shouldn't you be a bit nicer?" She asked. She could tell already she wasn't going to like him very much, he seemed like an ass, besides it's not like she couldn't leave, she didn't want to disobey her mother, but no one could make her do this.
Zarek glanced at her and then over at Ares and back at Althea "Don't you think, you should just let it go before you say something stupid?" He asked softly |
Ares laughed. "I don't do nice, and I don't ask," he said with a grin, still amused. "You've had it easy, kid, with your mother. You three have, actually. Ask Nika about what we've done sometime. You may learn to appreciate your lives more."
He crossed his arms over his chest, looking at the four of them. "Now, I'm done lecturing, and we need to get going. I suggest you all pack up a few things, since this may take a little while to resolve." Nika rolled her eyes and went into her office for a few moments, emerging with a pre-packed duffel bag, which she slung over her shoulder. Ares grinned, apparently proud of the fact that after a lifetime of this, Nika was prepared to leave at a moment's notice. Callyx bit back a retort about having it easy and instead just glared at Ares. He really did not like that god, and he rather wondered how Nika put up with him. However, he headed upstairs swiftly to grab his bags, since he'd kept them mostly packed. |
"Ha that's funny, because walking into danger is really a way to appreciate our lives" She said a bit sarcastically as she turned around and headed upstairs to pack, mostly because she didn't like him, and chances were if she stayed around she would probably say something she might later regret.
Zarek glanced back and forth between the two of them, wondering if he should say something, finally he decided against it, this wasn't his battle and he didn't really care about helping, although he did have a little issue with Aries's attitude. He sighed as he headed upstairs to hurry up and pack and get ready to leave, yay. |
Ares snorted at her and shook his head, watching her leave. He was half-tempted to show her how cruel he could be, but he didn't. Instead he plopped down in a black leather chair that appeared there moments before he sat. Ah the perks of being a god.
"Ares, you are an ass," Nika huffed. "Yeah, I know," Ares said with a smirk. "But you know what? She'll work faster for it, and the sooner you lot are done the sooner you can get back to your actual job." Nika sighed and shook her head, looking away from him and waiting for the others to be ready. Callyx paused for a moment when he saw Althea. "Hey, are you alright?" he asked, looking over at her. |
Althea glanced over at him "Why wouldn't I be okay?" She asked. She was okay, she just didn't like Ares at all and she was sure it showed. She didn't see how he could tell her she didn't value her life when he was sending her out into danger where she could die, how was that valuing life? "I just don't like him, he's a jackass" She said
Once Zarek finished packing, he was glad he didn't bring that much with him, just what he needed. He had hoped bringing less stuff would mean spending less time here, but apparently that wasn't how it was going to work out. All well the more he complained about it, the longer the job would take and the longer he would have to be away from home. |
Callyx held up his hands when she glared at him. "Sorry I asked," he muttered. "I know. I don't like him either. He's not very well liked among the gods, enver has been. I honestly don't know how Nika puts up with him."

Callyx grimaced. "I don't like the gods. I never have. I've been dragged out to a few... meetings, I guess they are, and I tend to not get along well with any of the gods. So from what Ares knows of me, I guess he thinks that I'm just an asshole halfling." |
Althea sighed some "I don't think he has any room to talk though, he's not exactly nice himself" She said. Maybe her mother had sent her here to learn something from all this, or something she was hoping soon enough she would rather be home "Whatever, I guess the faster we do what he wants the less time we have to deal with him" She said
Once Zarek finished packing he headed back downstairs, he could hear Althea and Callyx talking, they both didn't seem to happy about it, nor did they really like Ares much, well they were the stronger ones so having them around would be helpful. |
Callyx nodded. "My thoughts exactly. We just get it done and then we can go home." That would be nice, although he did like Althea. Maybe they could exchange mail, or visit each other once in a while. He had to admit it was rather nice to know someone else like himself.

"If we get out of it alive, then we can go home" She said, the chances of them probably dying on the mission was very high, not that she wanted to die sometimes she was just a bit of a negative thinker sometimes "And I bet after this is over, they will decided theres something else for us to do, it will turn into a never ending cycle" She said

"Maybe. It's hard to say, right now," Callyx said with a shrug. "Well, I don't know about you, but I'm ready to go, so we can get this over with and go home."
