The marble Tauna had pushed with her finger was pink. She was surprised that it could also be knocked out and not violate the rules of the game. She was also surprised at the woman's voice and slightly jumped. If this girl could see her, would the woman also be able to see her? If her hunch was correct then maybe... Tauna didn't want to risk it just yet, though. "Um... I don't know..." She really didn't know what to say to excuse herself...
Ally looked at her confused. If she didn't want to see her mom, than it was fine. She shrugged, "Alright. I'll be right back than." She smiled anyways. "I just want to say hi to my mom and let her know your here." She said, going down the stairs and catching her mom in the middle of a pile of laundry.
"Mom?" She asked, since it could have really been anyone in that giant pile of clothes. "Yes, Ally. Its me, come help me." She said, managing to move her boney arm out of the pile and towards her daughter. Ally laughed and took it, helping her out with a lot of effort. "What's up, Ally?" She asked. "Are you hungry?" "Nope, I'm fine. I just wanted to tell you I have a friend over. We'll be upstairs in my room." She said, shaking her head and smiling. Her mother grinned, glad to hear she had made a friend already. "Oh, thats great, honey. Alright, just go and have fun than." She smiled. Ally nodded, and went out of the room, stopping by the kitchen and grabbing a bag of chips on her way up since her mother was right on the part about her being hungry. When she made it to her room again, she sat back at her place and looked at Tauna, offering the now-open bag of potato chips to her. "Hungry?" She asked. |
Tauna sat there and practiced picking up the marbles she hadn't used with air and her hand. It was supposed to work as an illusion to seem like she was actually picking them up, but she still wasn't good at it. The marble was floating above her hand in mid air rather than appearing to be sitting in it. She dropped the marble back on the ground quickly when she heard Ally walking up the stairs. The marble rolled back into its original place at least... "Maybe a bit... Thanks." She saw the bag and was actually figured out a plan that wouldn't seem rude.
Ally scooted the bag towards her, letting it sit in front of her. "Well, you can grab one whenever you'd like. I know I'm starving since I've only had an apple and some berries today." Which made her think. "You know there's a lovely apple tree surrounded by berry bushes off the trail in the forest? It was weird how I got there, but very convenient. I'll have to show you sometime." She smiled, using her turn at the marbles game, and scoring another 3 pointer. "That gives me 6 points altogether. Your turn." She grinned.
"I... I actually know of that place. I'll go there sometimes when I need to get out of the cabin. It's really stuffy in there so fresh air is always nice." She pushed another marble towards the circles and somehow got it into the circle above the one Ally's was in. "How many points is that?" She reached her hand into the bag without her arm going diagonally and swiftly pulled out a chip. She popped it into her mouth just as quickly before Ally noticed it was floating or could be seen through Tauna's hand. Either way.
She giggled. "Thats 5 for you. Your winning." She pointed out, noticing that she had taken a chip, but not seeing it. Which made her take another chip since it made her think of food. When she rolled her next marble, it stopped right next to Tauna's last marble. "Now that 8 for me. Ohh, you might win." She giggled.
"Maybe... It's all about aim and power when it comes to pushing the marble it seems." She pushed a violet and blue swirled marble towards the circle and got it in the circle she got her first marble in. "See?" She grabbed another chip and did the same thing she did the first time. "So how many shots do we each get before the end of the game?"
"Hmmn, now we're tied." She said, looking down and counting how many marbles she had left. "Well, I have 1 marble left. You have two, from the one I knocked out of the circle earlier, so I go once more, and assuming you don't knock me out of the circle, you go twice more." She said. "Its a confusing game at first, I'll admit, but it consumes a lot of time when you think about it." She shrugged. Sing she was usually a lonely girl, games like 'marbles' and 'solitaire' were her favorite. When she took her turn with her last solid green marble, she landed in the fourth largest circle. "That gives me 12 points all together." She smiled, leaning back and looking at Tauna. "If you get less than 12 with your last two, you win." She smiled.
"Uh okay..." She grabbed another chip and popped into her mouth before shooting the pink marble again. It went into the same circle as Ally's last shot, just slightly hitting one of the other marbles. She wasn't sure if it was her own or Ally's, but that one didn't move from the circle in any case. The second marble she shot then just got to the center circle. "Um that makes it... 13 for me... Right?" She still wasn't sure how the points worked.
"Oh, yay! I win!" She smiled. "That was a good game, though. We should play it again sometime." She giggled, and took another chip. When it was in her mouth, she laughed, and held up her hand to Tauna, as if waiting for a 'high-five'.
"Huh?" This was the first time she saw that gesture. She'd been living alone for so long without any human communication. So she didn't know much about what people did nowadays. The house Ally lived in now, her house, had been abandoned a long time ago. Seemed like decades. And now it was occupied again. "Anyway good game. It would be nice to play again." She reached for the chip bag and forgot about the whole arm-going-through-items thing as she grabbed another chip, arm tilted downward. The bag didn't get crushed under it like it typically would if someone were to grab a chip the same way.
Ally laughed. "Its a high five. You put your hand here." She said, pointing to the palm of her hand. "In a clap, like this." She said, clapping her hands together, finding it very strange that Tauna didn't understand it. She watched as Tauna reached for the bag and didn't hear the usual crrrnnch that occurred when people grabbed for them. She tilted her head slightly to get a better view, and saw that some of the bag was going through her arm in an unusual angle. Her eyes grew wide, and she bolted onto her feet. "Woah! Look at your arm! How are you doing that!?" She asked, amazed.
She nodded as Ally demonstrated then got confused at her outburst. "Huh?" Tauna looked towards her arm and went pale. Then she blushed, but it was too light to really tell. "Um... Uh... It's an illusion?" She quickly pulled her arm away from the bag without grabbing a chip and placed both arms in her lap. She was embarrassed that Ally had seen that. Telling the truth now would be hard. And may be disappointing afterward with a bit of regret added on... Ally was young enough to believe in ghosts still, but just barely. In a few years or so she could forget all about them or tell hereslf they never existed. Most children grew out of that belief by the time they were 16 or 17 to 19 years of age.
Ally's eyes were still as wide as dinner plates. "T-That's an illusion!?" She asked. "Well, its pretty amazing, so if you could teach me, that'd be great." She laughed, sittin back down. "It just looked so... real?" She smiled. "To be honest, you looked like a ghost!" She giggled. "But you don't believe in ghosts, do you?" She asked.
"Ghosts. Me? Nah. They're just made up to scare people or make an interesting story during Halloween. Do you believe in ghosts?" She was hopeful that she did as she thought about how to answer the next question. "That trick? It takes a long time to master. Years even. I was taught it at a very young age... Toddler-hood if you can call it that." She giggled nervously. But was still hopeful.
Ally smiled, blushing slightly. "You don't? Oh, m-me neither..." She shyly said, tinkering with the end of her skirt. "B-But I do think it'd be cool if they did exist... I mean, don't you?" She asked, smiling. "And to be able to contact one? That'd be cool, too, right?" She said, still smiling. When she was told about the trick, she frowned. "Oh. Well, I'm not a very patient person, so teaching me wouldn't really be all that beneficial." She said, slightly laughing.
"It would be interesting to know a ghost and to prove they existed." She hid a smile regarding the situation that Ally was doing that right now, but didn't know it. "I'd want to meet one someday." She wasn't referring to Ally anytime soon. She was too young. That would be the only way to learn the trick, too, but Tauna didn't say anything, though. "Learning anything earlier on is a lot easier anyway. I didn't have patience either, but I learned to not get impatient over time." Tauna didn't even ask why Ally was stuttering.
Ally grinned. "I think I might have met one before." She giggled. "Well... I didn't see him, but I knew there was something there, maybe." She smiled, remembering her old house. "It was at my last house. One day, I felt someone looking at me, and another day, my earrings had been misplaced, and on another, I was called downstairs, but it wasn't my mom's voice and when I reached the place I thought I was being called from, there was nobody there. And another time-" She stopped, thinking she might be boring her with her stories. In all actuality, Ally did believe in ghosts. But she didn't want to appear childish in front of her new friend, so she denied it when Tauna did. "You know, we can stop talking about ghosts if you don't want to." She said quietly, sneaking another chip and popping it in her mouth. "I-I mean, since they don't exist and all."
"You thought you met one somewhere? It was a he?" She wondered about that. She'd been searching for something, but she couldn't remember what. "Where was this? Your previous house?"
Tauna was a bit saddened at the talk about not believing in ghosts, but she avoided it and tried not to fade away in the process. "Maybe you forgot you placed your earrings somewhere else after taking a bath or shower... And forgot..." She was curious about why she stopped talking though. She was curious about this other ghost if he was real. "It doesn't bother me to talk about it. It almost seems like you're scared or something... I've always liked ghost stories, though." |
Ally shook her head energetically. "Oh. no no no. I'm not scared, I like ghost stories too, Its just... I..." She frowned, and finally decided to tell her. "Alright, so I do believe in ghosts, but I'm not childish or anything, so... there...." She said shyly. "And I could have... but I find it more exciting to think he did it. And I don't know if its a 'he', but I've never really seen one, so I didn't know what it was." She shrugged.
Tauna smirked quickly as she knew Ally could see them and has. Quite recently. "But you believe you can see them, right? If you wanted to? Would you want to?" Tauna smiled at her then. "I don't think you're childish. Kind of reminds me of me. I don't like to admit things either. In fact... I... Also believe in ghosts..." She was still curious about the "he" ghost, but didn't ask.
Ally looked confused. "I hope I get to see one, one day. But I wouldn't know, since for all I know, I've never seen one before." She shrugged. "You believe in them, too!?" She smiled widely, glad to hear that she wasn't thought of as childish. "Oh, great!" She giggled. "We could play 'ghosts' together than!" She smiled. "My friend back at my old house made the game up." She smiled. "He would always be the 'ghost', though." She laughed. "He really liked to talk about them, he's actually the one who convinced me the were real." She smiled.
"Well that's good then. Ghosts may be real or not. It all depends on what people believe. Some people don't even have to have seen them to know they're real. Maybe they just meet a ghost one day somewhere. I don't know..." She was curious about this game, 'ghosts'. "Why would he always be the ghost? That doesn't seem fair... You can be the ghost when we play if you want. How do you play anyway?"
Ally nodded in agreement. "I'd be one of those people, too... Er... If I've never seen one." She laughed. "And the game? Oh, its fun!" She smiled wide, standing up and jumping on her bed. "Like, if I were the ghost right now, you wouldn't be able to see me, and I could do and say whatever I wanted." She stopped jumping on her bed, and scrambled off, fixing her pink blanket. "You, who would be the 'human' in that case, would have to pretend like you couldn't know that I was ever even there. Its more fun when the 'ghost' plays tricks." She smiled, moving to her vanity mirror, and tipping it up slightly. "See? Now, if you couldn't see or hear me, all you would see was the mirror tipping up." She giggled. "Its a fun game." She smiled widely.
"Yeah. It sounds like fun. I think I've play it before a while back when I was younger. I'd be the 'ghost' then and would play all kinds of pranks. It was fun." She still could if she wanted to, but not yet... She didn't want to shock the girl with her talents and be figured out yet. To Tauna, this was like a prank of her own. A friendly one, though. It would be interesting vise-virsa... "Okay how should we start?"
