"I thought you had the day off?"
Donnan paused in his actions. His fingertips were hovering over the roots and soil of a small, white potted flower. The words, ancient incantations of a spell, rested on his lips, ready to be spoken and activated. The voice behind him almost startled him. Almost. He had heard the near silent steps approaching from the end of the hallway just in time to sooth his nerves when the figure's vocals reached his ears.
"Watering plants cannot be called work when they reside in my chambers," he replied in a soft voice. He whispered then the spell of liquid, and a small amount of crystal clear water dripped from the pads of his fingers, as if their source leaked from inside his skin. "The correct term is hobbies."
Behind him his cousin, the heir of the woodlands, raise a slim dark brow. His long, chestnut brown hair was tied loosely in a bun on his head, his tiny crown glittering under the light of the sun that peeked through the treetops above. The elven brunette lifted his bright eyes to the openings of the sky. "Whatever happened to your canopy?"
"It is summer time." Donnan looked over his shoulder, drying his hand on the fabric of his shirt. "I do not need it."
"Donny, it rains the most in the summer," his cousin retorted, lowering his stare so their gazes met.
Donnan frowned. "That's Spring, Aliean. Summer is when it is hot."
"Oh." The look on the heirs face was priceless. It was as if he had just found out he was being lied to his entire life, that nothing would be the same anymore. "That must be why animals are more seen at that time of year!"
"Yes, because the rain and sun grows food and provides drinking water for them." Goodness, his cousin was dull sometimes.
Aliean nodded, looking very impressed with himself. Then he stopped and touched his thumb to his bottom lip. "Now... I cannot remember why I came in here to speak with you."
"You grew hungry?" Donnan tried. The heir shook his head. "You cannot find something?" Another shake. "Your father sent you?" Nope. "Myfather sent you?" Not that either. "You grew bored?"
"Yes, but still no," Aliean said. "Ah, well, I shall remember it sooner or later. If not it shall come up on its own."
Hopeless, Donnan thought with a small smile as he turned back to his watering while his cousin made himself comfortable on his bed, chattering away. Utterly hopeless.
