The kingdom of Estrelskye rested up in the tops of the highest trees in the forest. It was hidden perfectly among the leaves, branches and vines. The largest building that was up there, was a mansion-looking wooden house that housed the King and Queen of Estrelskye. The other buildings that were in the kingdom, were personal quarters of the subjects as well as businesses like a tailor, leather worker, and a large kitchen that cooked the meals for everyone. Many people bustled around the tree top kingdom, walking across rope bridges and standing on wooden ledges to get from point A to B. They walked across the bridges like nothing...no fear of falling or the ropes breaking. One individual in particular was heading for the forest floor. He went to one of the trees that harbored a hidden staircase and opened the 'door' and went down to the ground. He whistled shrilly and waited. In a flash of green and blue his companion Kyte shot from the tree he was perched in and landed on his shoulder. " Morning." he said stroking the head feathers of his friend. Kyte just warbled his response. Tirel was a scout for his kingdom. He was happy to serve his King and make sure that nobody or nothing got in past the boundaries of the Kingdom itself. Daily he went to eight different points that surrounded Estrelskye. North, South, East and West and all the points in between. He of course didn't do the scouting alone....he had three others who did the foot work, and four others who kept watch in the trees. Tirel headed to his first area of the morning. He searched around the area and held his bow ready just in case he needed to shoot quickly. |
Among the sound of the quiet winds blowing the leaves of the trees and the distant sound of birds a new noise was heard. It was the soft beating of wings against hair. The sound belonged to something a lot larger than a bird but much smaller than a dragon. It was traveling with decent speed between and through the trees attempting to be careful and not cause too much noise by snapping free limbs...and failing. The slight snaps in the trees could be heard from a distance by anything with ears good enough. It only flew another few minutes before landing on a thick branch.
Where it had landed was fairly close to the city, the leaves seemed to hide the place well. Luckily for it, or more accurately... them since a smaller figure was perched on the back of the larger, they had stumbled upon a man who outwardly showed he knew of this places whereabouts and thus the pair beat the information from him. Two pairs of eyes glared out across branches and leaves to try and find any movement..or guards or to see if there was some sort of magical force to keep things out. Because flying straight into a solid plane of nothing wouldn't be the most pleasant thing in the world. The smaller of the two, a dark skinned human, held up a hand to her forehead to block the sun from her eyes. From her point of view there was nothing she could see that could possibly get in the way of their plans. A city without guards seemed strange, they would have to proceed with caution. Before the human could make any more movement the larger of the two, a great black beast with the mane of a lion and claws as long as a humans hand, spread its wings and they were once again on their way to the great city... and all the shiny treasures inside. |
Animals were sounding off alarms to anyone trained to notice the difference in their sounds would hear. Birds were not singing, but calling in a sort of scared tone. The animals that had voices, were sounding off in a simular way. Tirel had cocked his head to the side, letting his good hearing pick up the sounds of the forest.
He acted quickly. Someone or something was coming towards the elven kingdom, whether they knew it or not, and it was his job to stop whatever it was. He slid an arrow from his quiver and docked it onto his bow to be ready to shoot once he saw the intruder. He rushed towards where the alarm was greater. When he got closer, he heard wings. At first he thought dragon, but no...the flapping of dragon wings was much heavier, much slower. This sound was quick...with a light bodied creature---well lighter then a dragon in this case. He looked up into the sky and saw something black, with wings stretched. He never seen anything like it before, but shot up at it anyway. He continued to shoot at the thing until it came down so he could finish it. |
