Two people go for a walk at night in the city of New York, for two very different reasons. James, a barkeeper, is out for something to chow on. The only thing is, his meals consist of people. James, you see, is a vampire, a fearsome creature of the night. He hasn't thought about relationships since a bad breakup a few centuries ago.

Enter Linda, a girl who went out for a midnight walk. Little does she know she'll change both hers, and James' lives.

What happens when a millennium old vampire falls in love with a human? Even though their love is forbidden by the laws of his world?

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

The young girl, Linda, walked swiftly through the streets of New York, heading towards the cafe for a nice cup of coffee. She let her hair flow past her as if it was made out of silk, and her pale skin shone of most of the moons light. Linda wore her white dress with flats and the slight peach color of her lips matched perfectly with her skin. Taking some more steps closer to her destination, she looked up at the night sky, seeing that it was fairly late. She lived alone in a house in the hills where it showed lots of light from the moon.

Linda walked inside of the cafe and looked around, and knew exactly what she wanted. Striding over to the register, she ordered a medium sized latte with fresh chocolate and a tad bit of caramel to add to it. Once she had gotten her cup, Linda took a coffee mixer and swirled the liquid in her cup and threw away the stick. Walking outside to the chairs, she sat down, legs crossed, enjoying the view. It was fairly quiet tonight but, it didnt feel right. Her instincts were telling her to leave while the rest were curious. She decided to stay much longer and see what was gaining her hopes up.

James

James sauntered down the street, hands in his pockets as he scanned the area for a lone person. He licked his fangs as the thought of feeding filled his mind, causing him to search faster. James was a vampire, a bloodsucking creature of the night. Or as his friend called him, an 'overgrown mosquito'. Jacob had no room to talk, as he was an undead bloodsucker himself. James chuckled lightly as he remembered the resulting argument from that one comment, culminating in a fist fight which soon degenerated into laughing, as all their fights did.

James pulled himself out of memory lane when his throat started to burn again. He hadn't fed in a few weeks, and couldn't take the burn any longer. A small flicker of remorse crossed his mind, for the unlucky human who was to be his meal this fine night. And a find night it was, a full moon, and clear skies, with a slight chill in the air.

James soon saw a pretty girl walking down the street, seeming to be in a hurry. Intrigued, he followed the girl, until, at his amazement, she went into a coffee shop. Coffee, at this hour? he thought as he entered the shop after the girl. She ordered a caffeine laden, drink, and seated herself. James walked up the counter and ordered a black coffee, before seating himself across the shop from the girl. He pretended to sip the coffee, watching her over the rim of the bitter drink.

She looks delicious... James though, as he settled on his prey for the night. Another flash of remorse crossed his face, this time for having to take the life away from such a pretty face. He shrugged to himself, and thought what he always thought when ideas like that came to him. It's the order of life... he thought, accidentally taking a sip of the coffee. He spluttered the black drink out, and started coughing like is had gone down the wrong way.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda tapped the rim of her cup, looking down. She felt....watched. Shaking that out of her mind, she quietly stood up and walked with the cup the faint click of her flats against the cement sidewalk. Linda slightly rubbed her eyes, trying to keep off sleep. She didnt want to go home. Her house had too many bad memories in it. Linda moved the hair out of her face, only resulting into having it fall in in her eyes again. She sighed and stopped at the main crosswalk in the downtown square. Not many people were here but it would still be easy to fade into the crowd. Linda was almost near the library but she heard a crash in the alley way near her. She stopped and looked. Linda blankly walked slowly into the alley, only to feel a forceful shove against the wall. Hearing voices she knew what was happening. She was being crowded around a gang that she had passed not only days before.

Linda tried to squeeze through the grip, but she was slammed into the brick wall again. She gasped for breath for that she was only to be kicked in the stomach then pulled up close to one of them. Linda couldnt see since it was so dark and she felt the man smile. She gulped, thinking this was the end for her. Linda pushed him off and heard a faint laughter around her. It felt alot more than just four people.

James

James frowned when a gang pulled the girl into an alley. She was his prey, and he wanted her untainted. With a sigh, Jacob threw away his coffee, still full, and walked up behind the person holding onto the girl. He tapped the mans shoulder, and launched a right hook at the man when he looked around. His strength had faded with time without feeding, but it still broke the man's nose. "Why are you hurting this young lady?" James asked, looking at the blood on his fist. He licked the crimson liquid off, and shot a look at the rest of the group.

They looked at each other, seeming to ponder whether they could take the lone man, and grinned. "You picked the wrong day to mess with us!" they yelled as they rushed him, en masse. Jacob sighed and clotheslined the first thug, knocking him out. The second threw a punch that connected with James' face with a crunch. He looked down at the ground for a second, trying to remember the last time he had been hit. His gaze returned to the thug, filled with bloodlust.

James pounced on the thug, and rained blows on the mans face. The sheer power of his punches, fueled by a fighting rage, scared most of the others away, leaving what seemed to be the two leaders. They ran forward, one wielding a pipe, the other had a knife. James disarmed the knife thug, and spun, jamming the blade into the gut of the pipe-wielding thug. With a cough, the man slid off of the knife, and stumbled back. Fear in his eyes, the pipe thug ran away, leaving the weaponless leader facing James. "Just leave." James said tiredly to the leader, as the man obliged and ran.

He dropped the knife, and turned to the girl. "You okay?" he asked, worried about the condition of his food.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda was stunned, seeing the gang members run off in such fear in their eyes. She coughed and looked up at the man who seemed a bit strange to her. Linda nodded. "Yes...im fine." Linda stood up and put a hand around her stomach, wincing a bit then stretched it out and turned to the man. "Thank you for helping me...it was too kind of you.." She retorted, with a smile. Linda wiped off the dirt on her legs and arms, still a bit shaken from the sudden experience. Looking at the dead bodies around her, she clamped a hand over her mouth. Some blood puddles were forming around the more injured bodies. She slid away from them, bumping into the man and backed away a bit.

"Im Linda by the way..." She said, holding a hand out to shake.

James

Jacob looked at the girl. "You are my prey..." he said. Before she could respond, he had bared his fangs and lunged at the girl with inhuman speed. His fangs sunk into her neck, and he held her there, drinking. The crimson flowed out of her veins and into his mouth, sating his thirst. Another twinge of regret hit him as he drank, but it wasn't enough for him to let go. Not now. He was too thirsty to let go anymore.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda gasped, feeling his fangs in her neck. She began to feel weak, but shoved him away as hard as she could and backed up into the wall. Putting a hand on her neck, she looked at the small bits of blood on her hands and looked up at him. She wasnt scared as she should have been, just shocked. "Y-You....tried to...drink my blood." She whispered coarsely. Her voice echoed in the alleyway faintly and she saw the look on his face. Linda shook more and bit on her lip, not sure of what to do now.

James

James looked back at Linda in shock. She was strong, strong enough to push away a feeding vampire. He shook the shock out of his head, and tried to regain his composure. "I did. And I would like it if I can finish my meal..." he said, casting out the low level compulsion that every vampire possessed. He smiled in anticipation, before it faded into a frown. The compulsion wasn't working. This girl is... different... he thought as he drew closer to the girl, intent on finishing his job.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

She looked at him and tried to walked more against the wall but it failed. She couldnt go anywhere, she was trapped between him and the wall. Her hand was still on her neck and it throbbed. "Finishing your meal meaning....killing me?" Her voice shook, and she didnt like the thought of it. What was the point anyways? Her life was a total piece of crap only to be used and be lied to, why not just let the guy take her? She closed her eyes tightly and leaned her head down, seeing that the man was in front of her. She put a hand out to push him away but again, failed.

James

James pushed the hand out of his way, not bothering to answer her question. He tilted her head gently, and was about to bite, before he noticed her expression. She's cute when she's scared... he thought. He returned to his bite, and found himself unable to finish the action. Confused, he backpedaled away. Looking at his hands, confused, he muttered "What's happening?" he said, shocked. He looked up, fear in his eyes. He had never felt this feeling before. All he knew was that it was connected to this girl, and wouldn't let him hurt her.

His fear grew as he stepped away. "What did you do to me?" he asked, his expression paranoid. He backpedaled again, and tripped, landing on his ass. He kept pushing away, until his back hit the wall. This girl was different. She had done something to him, without even doing anything, he was convinced.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda looked at him confused. She kept her hand placed on her neck and she stared at him. "I dont know what youre talking about.." She replied, still against the wall. Linda then took out her handkerchief and held it against her neck wound so it wouldnt bleed much more. What on earth was this guy talking about? She was baffled at how just ten seconds ago he was ready to maul her, and now he was afraid. This was just too confusing. She took a step towards him and bit her lip.

James

James tried moving farther back, the wall preventing him from getting any success. His fear had subsided a bit, but he was still paranoid of this strange girl.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda frowned and then sat on the ground in front of him. "What are you trying to get away from? I didnt do anything..." Linda retorted, waiting for her answer.

James calmed down slightly, and stopped trying to run away. He took a shuddering breath and looked at the girl warily. "You did.... I don;t know, something to me. I wanted to finish my meal, and all of a sudden, instead of wanting to kill you, I found myself wanting to....protect you." he gushed, surprising himself. That was the most he had talked in one breath in a while. Something, maybe the same thing that had prevented his feeding, made him want to please her, to bend to her every whim. He frowned and scooted a bit away from Linda. "And now, I feel compulsed to do whatever you want. What did you do?!" he added, the last part a demand.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda laid her chin on her knees listening. She was shocked. "Im pretty sure i didnt...." She muttered, feeling him scoot away. Linda just stayed in the exact place she was in. "Well, im telling you now that i didnt do anything. Im just a mere worthless human. How can i do something to you?! Your a strong race and your blaming me for it.." Linda said biting her lip again.

James

James looked at Linda, worried. The new want to help her forced him to crawl forward and pat her on the shoulder. "It's okay. You're not worthless..." he said, before shaking his head and backing away. "I have no clue what is going on..." he groaned, putting his head in his hands. "And you forget, humans are the stock of vampires. Without your kind, my kind wouldn't exist..." he mumbled, the sound muffled.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda gave him a yearning sound when he pat her shoulder. She then nodded and sighed. "I guess so....and your right." She replied simply. Looking at the cloth, the blood was beginning to stop. She then glanced at him. "I never got your name..." Linda said with a nearly-there smile. She then bit the soft part of her palm and saw a bit of blood come out. "Cmon...drink it. I want you to." She said, putting it up to his mouth.

James

James looked at Linda like she was crazy. And in his eyes, she was. First she did whatever she did to me, and now she's offering blood to a vampire. She should be running in fear. Or dead. he thought as he stared blankly at her palm. The scent started to waft through the air, causing his throat to burn and his fangs to poke their sharp heads out. "Why?" he asked simply, wanting to satiate his curiosity before his thirst. His fear had nearly vanished, and he visibly relaxed.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda sighed, once again her question was ignored. "Because i said so....?" She laughed. "Why else? And you seem like you havent fed in awhile. So take the chance while you still can." Linda said, offering again and putting it more towards his mouth. She dont know what changed her attitude about the entire situation but she felt a bit more comfortable and safe around him.

James

James frowned at Linda and shrugged. "If you say so..." he said slowly, before moving closer to her. He ignored her hand, and took her by the shoulders. "Bigger veins in the neck." he muttered in explanation, before sinking his fangs into her neck. It pained him slightly to hurt her, but that was manageable. He drank, and drank until he felt her heart flutter, signifying that she was close to death. Most of him wanted to keep drinking, to take her life, but there was the other, smaller part that disagreed. The smaller part had more of a pull on him, and he let go of Linda. He looked at her sleepily, as feeding always left him tired for some reason. "I'm James..." he said, just now remembering her question.

The feeling he got looking at her struck a chord in him, and he furrowed his brow, trying to remember where the feeling came from. A memory came to mind, of his first date, back when he was human. The feeling he had felt for the girl was the same as now, a need to protect her and make her as happy as possible, despite what happened to him. "Love?" he mumbled quietly to himself, completely forgetting Linda for a moment.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda felt the bite in her neck. She had her eyes closed tight, letting the pain wander through her. Once he had finished, she was already dabbing her neck with the cloth and smirked at him. "Nice to meet you James.." She said, stretching out her legs on the ground.

Standing up now, she was wiping the dirt off her bottom and off her legs, seeing that there were slight scratches from the earlier gang. Linda groaned and scratched the back of her head, looking at James after his quiet comment. Did he just say what im thinking he said? She thought, putting a hand on his shoulder slightly. "You ok?" She asked, wondering if there was anything on his mind that bothered him.

James

James looked up from his pondering. "I'm fine." he responded, rising with Linda. An expression of worry crossed his face, as he continued "Are you okay? I did drink your blood. A lot, too..." he asked, fully expecting Linda to fall over from blood loss.

☆ＬＩＮＤＡ ＣＡＲＴＥＲ☆

Linda nodded, feeling the slight headache come suddenly now. SHe put a hand on her forehead. "Eh, well...i guess ill be fine..." She replied, looking around and picking up her bracelet. Linda then almost had a limp leg from losing feeling in her legs but then regained balance immediately. She looked at him. "Do i look pale?" She asked, making sure that if she did, Linda would have to go back home and take her iron pills and such.

James

James looked her up and down, and nodded. "You look really pale. Even more than the usual from feeding..." he said. He licked around in his mouth, tasting the blood still there as an idea struck him. The blood tasted odd, less metallic. "Do you have an iron deficiency?" James asked, stepping closer to her.
