`Cexlan & The Cloaked Schemer
*Time skipping...*
Roxas sighed as the final bell rang. He'd been dreading this ever since yesterday. But he forced himself to put his books in his locker, say goodbye to his friends, and head to the classroom for his study session. He stood outside the door hesitantly before sighing again and knocking. Maybe Axel wouldn't be there. But Roxas knew better than to even hope for that. |
"Cong-in." The voice was gruff, almost irate.
Axel was actually trying to fight his hair back into a higher ponytail, bits and pieces hanging in his face, and when he'd swept those out of the way, more seemed to take their place. He had a hair tie in his mouth and was glaring at a half-graded essay, grunting with obvious frustration. "Cong-on, I don't hath all day." |
Roxas paused for a second more before slowly opening the door. When he saw Axel, he bit his lip to keep from laughing at him. It really was a funny sight. "Need some help?" he asked, mangaing to keep his voice normal as he closed the door behind him. He set his bag down by one of the desk in the front row and leaned against the desk.
Axel shot him a look filled with fire, and managed to half shove his hair into a proper tail, despite the ever-insensate lingering hairs at his temples. "No, that's why you're here, because you're the one who needs help. Go grab a desk."
Papers where pushed and prodded around until Axel found the identical worksheets he needed, before standing. "We'll start easy today." |
The smile faded from Roxas' face as he dropped into one of the seats. He really didn't need to be reminded about his bad grade. "...Ok. Whatever. Let's just get this over with." he said, resisting the strong urge to glare at the teacher. Did he really think he needed to start with something easy? He wasn't that stupid.
Axel came around to sit beside him, setting the work packet and pulled the book they were working on out of his back pocket, flipping through it. "Symbolism, first. I'll read you the passages here, and you answer those questions on there. All right? We'll go over them, see how you're catching on." Axel was personally indifferent to the Student's grades, but was inherently curious as to why Roxas was doing so poorly in his class. From what he'd found, Roxas wasn't a stupid person, and he'd done well in other English classes.
Roxas sighed lightly. He wasn't exactly great at symbolism. Which was weird because he understood it fine last year. But sometime over the summer, all the info in his head seemed to disappeared. "..Alright. Let's do this..." he said. He dug out a pencil from his bag and answered the questions as he listened to Axel talk.
Axel drawled on, with lacking enthusiasm, until the end of that section. He dog-eared the page and set the book down, before leaning to look at his answers. At some point, he pointed to one. "Why did you say that? What made you see that in that part of the novel?"
Roxas looked down at the answer that was pointed out. He shrugged. "Don't know. It just seemed like the right thing to put." he said, not really remembering writing that answer down. Not that he was going to let Axel know he wasn't really listening to the book. Even though he was trying too. His attention was just drifting.
"It's an interesting point of view," he sat back and thumbed through the book to that page. "I haven't heard that one yet, can I borrow your pencil?" He took it without asking, hunching over his desk to scribble in the margin of the poor, falling apart copy of the book they were reading. "Thanks."
Roxas was about to say no when his pencil was taken. He sighed again and leaned back in his seat, waiting to get it back. While he waited, he read through his answers. None of what he said seemed interesting to him, but if Axel thought so, then so be it. He was going to complain about it.
Axel handed his pencil back, and would repeat the over all studying style for about the next hour.
By the end, he'd be a bit exasperated, but not...completely disappointed. |
Roxas was glad when they were finally done. But in all honesty, he did feel like he learned something new. Or at least, the things he already knew where brought back out from his brain. He resisted the urge to stretch his arms as he looked hopefully at Axel. "So.. Same time tomorrow?" he asked.
