This is a Fruits Basket RP in which Kyo and Yuki fall in love. But of course only trouble can come from such a forbidden love as this.

Ugh... today just isn't my day, Thought a small gray rat as he dashed through an open field, a black cat hot on his heels. It's bad enough that I bumped into a girl in that crowd... and now I have to deal with this pesky cat? Oh, how I loathe cats... The rat made a U-turn, whisking away underneath the paws of the ebony feline. It gave a small mewl of surprise, reeling back and changing directions clumsily. The rat picked up speed as a familiar house made its way into view. Almost there...

He watched the cat try and catch his prey. Don't even bother, If I can't get him you cant. Kyo had been basking in the sun, laying on a thick tree branch when he looked down. He didn't know quite why he had looked down, but he instantly knew that rat was Yuki. Just seeing him filled him with hate. Even away from the house I'm not free of you am I? He looked away, trying to get back to laying around but he found it nearly impossible. Look at you. You have everything don't you? You'll probably get in and tell her everything that happened and she'll be all over you... He felt anger raising in his chest and tried to close his eyes and fight it.

The rat felt a paw bat at him. It struck him in the thigh and he tumbled forward, landing next to a tree. He knew very well that cats could climb, but he figured that he wouldn't be able to make it to the house even if he tried, so he quickly got to his paws and scrambled up the tree, landing with ease on the lowest branch, panting and out of breath. If I'm lucky, I'll transform back soon, He thought hopefully.

When he looked back, the rat had gone. It took him a little while to spot him on a low branch, trying to hide. That meant he was actually in trouble. A small smile broke across his face. That's when he would try next, when they were both transformed. He might have better luck, or at least break less. He watched the cat. It would find him soon. What if It chases him up there? What if It catches him? He couldn't let him be caught by something...I suppose if he really was in that much trouble...I would have to help him. He shuddered slightly even in the warm air at the idea. He didn't want to have to help him, but he didn't want him to get hurt. Unless by me.

The rat watched the black cat circle the tree, trying to find a way up. It clawed the bark testily, hissing at him occasionally. Finally, it sat back on its haunches, its muscles all bunching together. Then it leaped. It managed to grip the tree trunk in midair and quickly push itself upwards, scaling up the tree trunk slowly and carefully. As it got closer and closer to the branch the rat was on, the rat backed away, knowing that he was going to wind up trapped between the cat and the end of the branch.

Kyo watched, and watched the rat move back, trying to get away. He looked down and saw a branch a little bit bellow him and silently slipped down and stayed there. Now he could almost see the hunger in the cats eyes. Would the cat get him, or would he fall off? Maybe he would transform and fall to the ground. He smirked at the thought. He found himself almost enjoying what was going on, better then just lasing around.

Yuki continued backing up until one of his hind paws slipped on the edge of the branch. He squeaked in surprise and quickly scampered forward a bit, enough so that he was a safe distance away from the edge. I'm going to die! He thought as the black cat climbed onto the branch he was on, stalking towards him, crouched down in the hunter's pose.

He watched and realised that Yuki was having some real difficulty. When he had slipped and had to move forward, Kyo's heart had nearly stopped. He jumped down to the branch bellow, and hooked his legs around the branch, swinging down and grabbing the small creature, pausing to stick his tongue out at the cat before he swung back up, holding the other boy in his hands.

Yuki squeaked in surprise when he felt someone grab him. Luckily they were human hands and not cat paws. But the person who had saved him sure smelled an awful lot like a cat. "...Kyo?" The rat guessed without bothering to look up at his savior.

He wasn't sure what to say. He hadn't really thought past stopping him from being lunch. He may hate him, but he wasn't going to fight him now, when he was at such a disadvantage. "Yeah...ummm..." He racked his brains trying to think of something to say, something to justify helping him. He set Yuki down on the branch that he was sitting on and looked down at the ground, where the cat was sitting looking rather annoyed. "Try not to get eaten, I can't beat you if you're inside a cat."

"...Right..." The rat said quietly. "Thanks," He added curtly before rushing past Kyo, scurrying farther up along the branch. He just managed to land on one before transforming back, which had been the whole reason he'd ran from Kyo. Which was weird, because he usually wasn't afraid to transform in front of the other Zodiac members. "...Could you get me some clothes?" He called down to Kyo, trying not to act embarrassed.

For a minute, he felt like he should push him out the tree. I may have saved your life, and after all that, you expect me to fetch you clothes! He sat there trying to calm himself. He knew a fight wouldn't be worth it, and he was man enough not to start when one of them was at such a disadvantage. He glared at the other boy, and without speaking jumped to the ground and started the short few minutes walk to the house. He better realise this makes me better then him, he wouldn't do anything for me. He better realise he owes me too. Damnit...

Yuki sat there and watched Kyo walk off to get his clothes. ...Thanks... He thought, but he couldn't bring himself up to say it. And besides, Kyo was too far away by now. The black cat had wandered off minutes ago, angry that it hadn't been able to catch its prey.

The house was empty. Good. I don't want anyone to know I'm actually helping him. He grabbed some clothes from Yuki's room and went back to him. "Oh dear, been eaten have you?" He swung back up and threw Yuki's clothes at him. "Better be grateful rat." Kyo looked away from him, instead looking out at the horizon.

"...Thanks," Yuki said softly as he pulled his clothes on. He slid down from the branch he was on to the one below it, then hopped down onto the ground, landing perfectly on his feet.

"No ones home. Maybe you can sneak back without anyone asking you anything." He almost spat out the words and he wasn't even sure why. In a way...he was annoyed. He had helped him, helped him when he had taken everything away. Kyo wanted something, he wanted either a reason why he should have helped him or a reward. Why should he have helped, when his life had been taken away by that man.

"Okay, okay, don't get your tail bunched up in knots," Yuki muttered, starting towards the house. Why's he so pissed off? Wondered the rat. I didn't ask him to run a marathon or anything... but I suppose he wants something in return? Yuki stopped in his tracks and turned around. "I owe you one for helping me out, by the way."

He was almost ready to jump down and start a fight, but then he heard him speak again. He was shocked for a moment, then just nodded and looked away. He thought he would be happier if he got something out of it, but he felt odd. "Just...forget it." He didn't like the idea of being owed anyway...

"..." Yuki stared for a moment. That was strange. He had expected Kyo to instantly take up the offer. The fact that he didn't somehow irritated the rat. "...The offer's always open," Was all he said before he went into the house.

He didn't move for at least ten minutes. Just...stared into the distance. Why would you want to owe me anything? He thought to himself for a long time before getting up to go back to the house. He didn't wait to see if anyone was around, he just slipped quietly into his room. Some how, something felt tense in his mind between him and Yuki, and he didn't want to talk to Tohru either. Every time he thought he was getting on with her, he was reminded that she saw him as nothing more then a friend. Is that all I'll ever be to anyone? A friend or a waste of space?

Yuki had retreated to his own room. He wasn't sure whether Tohru was home or not, and didn't want to talk to her anyways. He was too bugged by the fact that Kyo hadn't asked for anything in return. He didn't know why it bothered him. Maybe just because it made him feel sort of useless. Maybe he was useless. After all, he was just a rat.

He sat around staring out the window for a while longer. Somehow, it always made things easier to think about. He got up slowly and knocked on Yuki's door. "Hey, It's me. Let me in." Anything was better then the awkwardness he was feeling. How could you hate someone, and want to be them, and feel bad being around them all at the same time?

Yuki jumped when he heard a knock at the door. Kyo? Why does he want to come in my room? The rat braced himself, just in case it was a prank or something. He cautiously opened the door. "Yes?"

He didn't look him in the eyes when he opened the door, he almost had to bring himself to do it. "You really don't owe me anything." He sighed and paused for a moment. "I hate you okay? We both know why. How can I hate you when you owe me? I don't need your charity." Part of him told him to walk away, but for some reason, he wanted to know what Yuki would say to him. He hated any of them giving him anything. He wasn't one of them, they had made sure he knew that. He was nothing, nothing they did was just because. It was charity because he wasn't as good as them. And It's all your fault.

"...Charity?" Yuki was puzzled. It wasn't charity; he simply owed Kyo for pretty much saving his life. "If it weren't for you, I'd be dead right now. And I'd be an immensely ungrateful person if I didn't owe you anything. It's not that big of a deal anyways; if you're guilty or something, you can ask for something simple, like a carton of milk." He shrugged. Honestly, he didn't get the cat anymore; one would think he'd be ecstatic at the fact that the rat owed him something for once in his life. But instead he was backing down and getting angry?
