Léan did not sleep easily. He tossed and turned, and eventually gave up on sleep, and took to exploring the territory. He learned that a group of sharks made its home nearby, so they would have to move soon. The island seemed like a better bet than anything else, now.
Adam slept for a few hours not very comfortably but he need this sleep non the less. When he woke up he stretch out and yawned. His back hurt sleeping like this two night in a row but it could not be help. Adam sighed looking back at the water and where he was. He fold up his towel and finished off his seaweed that he was given then waited for the merperson to return.
Léan didn't notice he was awake for a few more minutes. When he did, he resurfaced slowly, lazily. He was holding two big, nice-looking crabs--one of which he was eating. The other was alive, and attempting to pinch him. He had it in a secure hold so it couldn't. "I was wondering if you wanted this extra crab, once we get to the island," he explained, idly.
"Ohhh crab it looks mean but I know they taste good." Adam smiled. "So are you ready to take me to the island with you?" He smiled then stop in this thought. "Oh I should have asked you slept first and let you finished your meal first. I'm sorry what I said was a little rude."
Léan shrugged. "It is fine, really." He gobbled down the last of his meal, and then nodded, slowly. "I am ready to go if you are...if I assist you, you should be able to swim some of the way by my side." He had the crab to carry, after all...he couldn't fully cart him around all the time.
Adam grabbed his towel and tied it around his body and knotted it a few times. "Okay I have my towel on tightly." He looked over the sandbar making sure he got everything he needed off of it. Those he didn't have much only his towel and himself. Adam looked to the merperson and moved closer to the water. "But you only taught me how to float and kick to stay up right. I not sure if I can do this yet." He said as he place his hands on the sandbar and started to kick his feet once he was sure he won't sink he let go of the sandbar looking to the merperson.
"I will help you. Here." Léan offered Adam his free hand. He needed one hand to hold the crab--it was a large king crab, by the looks of it...probably plucked up from the ocean floor farther out into sea. If he loosened his grip even just a bit, it was threatening to pinch him with a vengeance. It looked furious.
Adam's hand took the merperson's hand shakily still he was not use to the water and he was trying to kick the best he could. Adam looked at the crab it was so big. People would pay good money back home to eat one of them. He laughed to him self he wonder what was going to become of him as he waited for the merperson to lean him to the island. "How big is the island compared to the sandbar?"
"It is uninhabited...mostly, it is a place where sea birds perch, and sea turtles," Léan informed him, as he turned in the proper direction and started to swim, probably in the direction of where the island was. "There is a bit of forest. It is maybe the size of...a big fishing vessel? I do not know what else to compare it to, unfortunately..."
Adam just tried to fouse on kicking his feet he had not gotten this move your arms and kicking thing down yet but he was moving his legs which helped alot. He was trying tried kicking because he was not doing right to use less engery but he was kicking enough to make him move. "Oh.... I see... How far is it?"
"A few miles. If you get tired, we can stop and I can carry you...but I would like you to try and swim on your own," Léan retorted, calmly. He knew this news wouldn't be so well-taken by the human...it was quite a ways away. But, Léan had no problem carrying him once he grew too tired to function in the water...
"Oh no... that soo far." He was really tried and was trying his best to swim but he was not sure how much longer he could keep this up. He looked back and could still see the sand bar in the far distence and sighed. To him that was far enough but they still had miles to go and he was worried if another sea animal saw them swiming like this would they attack them.
Léan wasn't worried about other sea animals. Most sea creatures, not including rays of any breed, were docile towards merpeople unless they sensed they were out hunting for a meal. After a long while of swimming, he noticed that Adam seemed close to passing out, and he stopped. He ducked underwater and hoisted the boy up onto his back, securely. "Put your arms around my neck...not tightly...and we can continue..."
Adam really was tried and was more then happy when the merperson went under him and offered him a ride. "Oh thank you" He wrapped his arms loose around the merperson and stop kicking. He yawned sleepy. "I never asked your name." Adam said softly. "You are helping me and I have been rude not to ask or even tell you my name. I am Adam whats yours?"
"Léandre. Please, call me Léan."
Léan adjusted him a bit so that they would both be comfortable on this journey, and then headed off in the proper direction. He was still clutching the crab, which was still alive and seemed to have given up in its determination to pinch and attack its captor. |
"Léan? I have never heard of that name before I like it." Adam said as he felt the movement of the water over him as he wrote on Léan's back. "Will you can able to fine a place to sleep on or under the island I will be on?" Adam was just making some talk trying to get to know the person who had safed him and who was now carring to an island to be safe on.
"Seeing as you claim that you need my assistance to reach a populated island, still...I suppose I will stick around for a while longer and nest nearby..." Léan's swimming was flawless and fast...he was like a dolphin in water. Then again, he had lived in water all his life...
Adam's fears where being eased as he was on Léan's back. He smiled sofly as he looked around but all he could see was more water. Adam saw fish fishing around and by them and he watched at how big some of them were. "Will the other sea animal bug us or attack us?"
"Only rays. If either of us were bleeding, there would be more of a risk...but we are not." Léan was amused by his fear...then again, humans were always wary of other creatures...it was an odd concept for him to grasp.
"Well good either of us is bleeding then. I don't want to get attack... " Adam softly said keeping his head above the water as they glide through it. Léan was really amazeing with how he move so quick through it and was able to do it while holding a crab and him on his back. That was impressives Adam thought.
Léan swam for quite a while longer, before the outline of a small island, with a few trees and a bit of forest on it, began to show up on the horizon. "That is it. There. There will probably be some birds there, but chase them away..."
"Why chase them away what wrong with the birds?" Adam asked Léan softly as he looked at the island and smiled. Soon he could be on dry land again this would be great. Adam was geting excited as he saw the island. "Oh wow I thought we would never get here I'm so glad your a great swimmer."
"They can get territorial," Léan said, simply. Once he reached the shallows, where he was sure Adam could stand, he leaned over and eased him off of his back. His tail swished back and forth, absently, as he toyed with the crab in his hands, which was now trying to pinch him again. "If you can make a fire soon, I can kill this persistent crab for you, and you can cook the meat..."
Adam looked at the Crab and had totally forget about it. "Oh yeah I forgot about him, he not hurting you to bad is he?" Adam slide off of Léan's back and stand up in the shallows. He walked on to the shore and looked around. He quickly piled wood, leaves up in a pile near the beach but not to close that the tie would put out the fire. The looked for rocks that seemed flat enough. He found rocks and kept striking them together over and over but no fire was being made and Adam was getting depressed. Those he tried once more and soon a spark caught on a leaf. It took a little bit but soon Adam had a nice fire going and he look back to Léan. "The fire is ready?" Those Adam forgot about the birds.
Léan hadn't forgotten. He was keeping an eye out for overly-aggressive birds. "Make sure you guard your food. These birds are fearless and will swoop down and take the crab from you if you are not careful..."
Gratefully, Léan finally smashed the crab's shell in, killing it instantly. Bit by bit, he slid the meat out of it, and held it all out to Adam once he was finished. Only the husk of the crab remained, and he let it float out to sea for the birds to nibble on. |
