~Neko~Sunday~
It was a bright and sunny day. All around were happy 1st graders. It was almost the end of the school year. And everyone was celebrating. All except for one. Six year old Cloud Strife was hiding in a corner. He didn't want to be celebrating. He just wanted to be left alone. And all the other kids left alone when he glared at them.
He noticed his friend, Leon, up ahead. And that instantly put him in a better mood. He got up and went over to him, smiling slightly. "Hi Leon!" he exclaimed. |
Leon really didn't see what all the fuss was about. Why was everyone celebrating the end of the school year? Sure, he was looking forward to summer break, but not enough to prance around like the other first graders. Hearing his name, Leon stopped frowning at a group of girls dancing around one another, and looked to Cloud.
"Hey Cloud." Leon greeted, letting his arms drop to his sides. |
Sure. Seeing his friend had made him feel better. But not for very long. Cloud could feel the smile fall from his face. He turned away so that Leon couldn't see that he was upset. He didn't want to get him worried.
"How are you today?" he asked, still not looking at him. He didn't want to have to face him. But he knew he had to. But not right now. He would deal with it later. |
"I'm bored." Leon said, watching his friend turn his back on him as he spoke. "What's up with you?" He asked, walking around his friend to stand in front of him. It was very strange behaviour indeed, Cloud had never turned away like this before when they spoke.
"Nothing's wrong!" Cloud said, rather quickly. He turned away again. He didn't want to have to say what was really wrong. Because if he did he would have to say goodby, possibly forever. And he couldn't face that. It was too hard.
Leon still wasn't pleased with the answer Cloud gave him and once again moved to stand in front of him. "There is, stop lying!" He said, folding his arms firmly across his chest as he awaited an answer from his friend.
"I'm not lying!" Cloud exclaimed. He glared at Leon for a moment before stopping and turning away. He felt like he was about to start crying. He did not want to do that in front of his friend. Or any of the other students. Then they would all think he was a crybaby. He wouldn't be able to live with that.
Lying and glaring at him? What had Leon done to upset Cloud? Frowning, Leon made an annoyed 'humph' sound and turned his back to his friend. "Fine. Then when you come over next I'll make sure you don't have cake for pudding."
Cloud felt bad about being rude to Leon. "I'm sorry. It's just....Hard to talk about." he said. He looked at the ground, clearly upset. He didn't like it that Leon was mad at him. It mad him feel bad.
Hard to talk about? Then it must be something pretty bad. Leon turned back around and looked to his friend, then let out a sigh. "Okay.. then forget I asked." He said, sitting himself down and watching the rest of his class prance around.
"I'm sorry. Really. But I just can't talk about it. Not right now." Cloud said. He said down next to Leon and watched the class. Being by his friend made him feel better, but not by much.
Leon just shrugged his shoulders as if to dismiss the whole thing. It wasn't nice to know that his best friend was hiding something from him, but he'd live.
Cloud sat in silence for another few minutes. He hated not telling Leon. But he didn't want him to be mad at him. Between those two things, it was tearing him apart. "We're moving!" he suddenly exclaimed.
Leon usually liked sitting in silence, it was one of the things he and Cloud had in common, but today's silence was an uncomfortable one. He opened his mouth, just about to ask Cloud if he wanted to go play a game, but then the blonde blurted out what was on his mind. "To where?"
"I don't know. Somewhere far away and I'll never get to see you again!" Cloud exclaimed. He really didn't want to have to go, but he wasn't given any choice.
Now he understood why Cloud didn't want to tell him. Moving far away and they'd never see each other again.. but who was he going to sit and sulk with? Leon looked upto the sky and then flopped back onto his back. "Well.. we could always write to each other."
"I guess....But that wouldn't be the same as talking face to face." Cloud said. He laid back with his arms crossed behind his head and stared up at the clouds, extremely depressed right now.
"I guess." Then they'd just have to think up another way to see one another though.. Leon couldn't think of any. Perhaps if he saved up his pocket money and went to visit him? No.. bus tickets were expensive!
Cloud looked around and sighed, seeing his mom coming up to the school. "There's my mom. I have to leave now. And I'm not sure when I'll see you again." he said.
Leon sat up as he he heard Cloud speaking and he frowned. So this would be the last time he ever saw Cloud? It was hard to believe. "... guess I'll see you."
"I'll try to come see you as soon as I can." Cloud promised him. Then he left with his mom. And didn't come back.
{{I'm going to skip now.}} -16 years later- Cloud sighed as led another group of giggling girls to an available table. He hated his job as a waiter. Though he did personally like the cafe where he worked. It was nice. When there weren't a bunch of girls who came just to flirt with the waiters. They annoyed him so much. But on the bright side, he was off in an hour. Then he could go home and sulk about his day. |
Leon heaved a sigh of annoyance as Yuffie burst into one of the usual speeches as they walked down the street. Aerith smiled politely and nodded in all of the appropriate places whereas Leon simply.. frowned. Why had he agreed to this? Oh.. that's right.. he hadn't. Aerith had wanted to go shopping for a new outfit for a date tonight and she'd dragged Leon along for his 'input and thoughts'. Along the way they'd met up with Yuffie and one outfit became a whole wardrobe.. with him holding all of the bags.
Cloud kept glancing at the clock, willing it to move faster. He wanted out of here. But, of course, that wasn't going to happen. It appeared the clock was going slower then normal. And the one person in the world he didn't want to see came in.
"Hi Cloud!" she exclaimed. "Go away Tifa." he told her as she followed him around. |
As if deciding that subjecting him to being the 'mule', the girls now decided that they wanted to stop for something to eat. Huffing, Leon was pulled by the sleeve into the nearest cafe and the three stood, waiting to be seated.
Cloud pushed Tifa into a nearby seat when he saw more customers come in. "Stay." he told her as he went over to them. He lead them to an empty table. Once they were all seated, he pulled out his notebook. "Good afternoon. What can I get you today?" he asked.
