(Okay I'm taking some liberties with the plot setup, just lemme know if you wanna change something.)
The entire dorm was crowded and noisy, which was perfect; Daisuke already had his stereo cranked to hide the noise he was making, but the mess of new students and the commotion of most of them moving in just made his project even easier to conceal. Students in residence weren't supposed to be nailing things into the ceiling, but Daisuke really wanted to try his new piece out. It was just a wind chime made of small, thick metal bowls that would hopefully mimic the sound of singing bowls. It wasnt as large or obnoxious as a lot of his other work, but it was too heavy to hang with a thumb tack or a cheap plastic hook, and it was a little complicated to hang.
Daisuke had to pause his work when a new student accidentally wandered into his room, and he turned the music down a little to direct her vaguely to her own building. She made him remember that he had a new roommate coming in today, though he hadn't looked at the name on the notice the college had sent him; he knew he'd find out when he moved in. It was the last week before classes, so mostly it was first year students moving in, but his new roommate might have been his own age for all he knew. Perhaps he was even as far along in his program as Daisuke was.
When the girl was gone he returned to his project, but kept the music down in case his roommate showed up.

Katsu made his way nervously through the crowded dorm. Even though this wasn't his first time being at college, it was still kinda overwhelming. The last college he went to didn't have as many people in the dorms as this one apparently did. But he took a deep breath, kept his gaze downcast, and pushed his way through the crowd of people, carrying his things behind him.
With his bags all in one hand, a guitar case in the other, he held on to a piece of paper as best as he could. 'Where's the room?...' he thought. He wanted nothing more than to find his dorm room, put his things down and just relax for a moment. He almost sighed in relief when he seen the dorm number. But he didn't because he didn't want to risk drawing any attention to himself.
Katsu raised an eyebrow slightly though when he saw his apparent new roommate nailing something to the ceiling. He clearly remembered this was against one of the school rules, but didn't really want to confront the guy right away. He decided to wait awhile to see his personality type before even risking it. The last thing he wanted was to have this guy angry at him. Especially if he had major anger issues.
"Um... Hello? Are you my new roommate?" he asked, his voice being heard just barely over the music playing in the room.

At first Daisuke thought that he'd imagined the sound of Katsu's voice; it was so quiet. He hammered the last nail in place and threw the window open before turning to make sure, and was surprised to find Katsu standing in the doorway. He jumped off his bed, which he'd been standing on to nail up the wind chime. The dorms were too small for all students to have private rooms, a fact that would probably disappoint the new kid. He turned the music off and approached Katsu.
"Hey," he said, brandishing his hammer to wave it slightly in greeting. "You moving i--?"
Daisuke paused suddenly when he got a closer look at the young man's face, his eyes widening in disbelief. He looked over Katsu's features quickly, telling himself that he must be mistaken, but he recognized each and every one of them. He had hardly changed at all!
"Katsu?" Daisuke cried, a wide grin spreading across his face. "It is you, isn't it? What are you doing here? You're not a student here, are you?"

Katsu had unconciously taken a step back when Daisuke waved the hammer around. For some reason, he thought he was going to be hit by it. It was a relief when that didn't happen and he smiled lightly.
He had opened his mouth to introduce himself to his new roommate before Daisuke said his name. A confused look crossed Katsu's face for a second. Did he know this guy? He looked him over quickly before the image appeared in his brain. Yes. He did know him. He smiled happily at Daisuke.
He nodded. "Yeah. I'm a new student here and by the looks of things, you're new roommate." he said, happy he wasn't stuck with a stranger. "How've you been?"

Daisuke laughed. "How've I been? Heh, that's kind of complicated, huh...it's been since high school, right? A lot's happened." There were a few things he would rather not share, the most significant no doubt being the realization he was gay. Daisuke wasn't exactly in the closet, but he'd never been in a relationship and most people didn't know. Yet.
"Up and down, I guess." He shrugged and tossed the hammer down on his bed. "Going pretty good now that I'm here, though. The program's great. No one telling me what to do, and I love the stuff I'm doing." Daisuke nodded at the wind chime, then looked Katsu up and down again. He'd grown into a pretty good looking young man. "How've you been? What have you been up to?" He looked around at the familiar dorm, and shook his head, laughing. "I can't believe you're really moving in here today."

Katsu smiled at Daisuke lighlty as he put his bags down on the empty bed. He sat down on the edge and listened to his friend speak, nodding lightly. He glanced up at the wind chime. It looked nice. And nailed to the ceiling... He decided against telling anyone about this, since it was his old-time friend and he'd hate to see him get in trouble.
"I've been good." Katsu said, running a hand through his hair. "Nothing much really has happened with me. I sat through my sister's graduation last year. Got a job.. And lost it." He laughed at this point, kinda embarrased. But it wasn't really his fault that he lost it. His boss was just a jerk. "Let's see... I learned to play guitar." His tone of voice changed ever-so-slightly when he said this. It went from regular happy to slightly happier.
He looked around the dorm room and still couldn't believe he was actually rooming with someone he knew. "And you better believe I'm moving in today. Cause I'm here and I ain't leaving."

"I didn't say I was unhappy about it," Daisuke grinned, glancing at Katsu's guitar case. So he played music now...that was a bit of a surprise. But he was glad to know they still had a few things in common; they were both obviously creative, and apparently both had a hard time keeping it together. Disuke couldn't even count the number of jobs he'd been fired from. "Anyway, do you need any help with the move, or is that all your stuff?" He glanced around at the small space. "Actually, I hate to tell you this, but I don't think anything much more than what you're carrying will fit in here."
Daisuke returned his gaze to Katsu. "Oh, yeah...is this your first year here?"

Katsu couldn't seem to wipe the smile off his face. He was so happy to be here and even happier that he managed to room with a friend. This was just great~ He thought for a second before shaking his head. "Dont' worry about it. This is all I brought with me." he said, indicating the few bags he had brought. "I didn't want to bother whoever my roommate was by bringing too much stuff, so I just brought the things I had to have with me."
His gaze stayed on his bags for a second longer before turning back to Daisuke. "And yeah. It is my first year here. I can't wait to get a good look at the campus." Sure. He's had a tour of it before, but the guide didn't really go into much detail about anything here and didnt' really show them a lot of places. So, Katsu planned on getting his things settled in and heading out to get a better look himself.

"Yeah? I think you'll like it here. It's a pretty laid-back place, generally. I'm going into my third year now, so I know this place pretty well. I can show you around if you want. I can tell what profs to avoid, too." Daisuke grinned as he took a seat on his own bed. That was important information around here. "What program are you going into here, anyway? Music?" He nodded at Katsu's guitar. "I'm in the fine arts program. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be specializing in three dimensional visual art, or whatever it's actually called."
Daisuke was starting to get excited. He'd had a lot of roommates, but he'd never really gotten along with any of them, and he was starting to think that having a friend in the bed next to his was going to be a lot of fun.

Katsu grinned and nodded. "Yeah. That'd be great if you could." he said. He was sure if he tried to tour the campus alone, he'd end up getting lost. Nobody would probably help out because he was a newbie. That's how it was at his last school. But then again, he didn't really know anyone there. Here, he has Daisuke to help him out.
He dropped his gaze to his guitar case for a second before nodding again. "Yeah. Music is my life." he said. There was no way he'd ever be able to survive if he wasn't able to play something on guitar. Or even piano. He had one of those back at his house but he hoped this school had one that students were allowed to play.
"I think you'll be great as an artist." he said, pointing up to the wind chime. "If you made that, at least. It's very well-done."

"Yeah? You know a lot about metal crafting?" Daisuke grinned teasingly. He jumped up and fiddled with the piece, elated by the compliment. "I don't even know if it'll work yet. Hey--!" He looked to Katsu sharply. "You're really into music? You know anything about singing bowls? That's what this is supposed to sound like. It's pretty heavy, though, so we'll need a pretty strong wind to see if it works. I really hope I hung it up well enough, too, it's hanging right over my head."
Daisuke dropped down again, apparently unable to stop smiling. "So what kind of music do you play? Do you write your own?" He looked at Katsu's guitar case again. Having some live music around was going to be nice. Daisuke loved hearing stuff by undiscovered artists. "Do you sing too?"

Katsu stuck his tongue out at Daisuke when he heard the teasing, just like he used to do when they were kids. He couldn't help it. If he was with anyone else, he probably would have forced himself not to do that, but now, his body worked faster than his mind. He jumped back ever-so-slightly when he was turned to suddenly though. He nodded slowly. "Yeah.. I know a bit about singing bowls." he said. "If you ever get a strong enough wind, I can tell you if it sounds right."
Katsu's expression turned thoughtful. "I play all types of music." he said, shrugging lightly. "There's no specific genre." He dropped his gaze down to the ground after saying that, embarassed now. "I do write some.. Just not guitar music. I prefer piano writing over guitar writing. It's easier for me to imagine when I'm writing it down." He shook his head slowly. "I could sing.. I just can't when someone's listening. Though a lot of people told me I should go perform onstage a few times."

"Maybe that means you should perform on stage," Daisuke suggested, once again in a teasing tone. He just couldn't help it. He was fascinated by Katsu's shyness, especially considering how good he probably was if he'd garnered such praise. Daisuke knew a few other artists who were the same way, apparently simply unable to accept praise for their work.
"So are you taking writing classes, then? Or performance, or both...?" Once again his eye was drawn to the guitar case. "Do you have any music here with you? Why don't you play something?"

Katsu shook his head slowly, a blush slowly forming on his face against his will. "No. I can't perform on stage.." he muttered. "I have really bad stage-fright." It was true. He never did even like giving a report in front of the class during any of his years in school. The second he had to, he instantly hated the class.
"My classes.." He thought for a second. "I'm taking both." he said, smiling lightly. He was looking forward to the school year starting. "And no. I don't have any music here with me.... But... I could still play something. If you pick a song."

Daisuke felt a lurch in his stomach when he saw the blush blooming across Katsu's face. Over the years Daisuke had always felt a special fondness for Katsu; despite any of his vices, Katsu had always been a good, sincere sort of person. There was an innocence about him that Daisuke found very refreshing.
He had never considered until now that the feeling might mean something more than friendship. He watched katsu carefully as the young man spoke, trying to understand his own feelings a little better.
"Any song?" Daisuke asked, thinking carefully. He tried to think of something Katsu would know. "Let's go old school. You know "Hurt"? The Johnny Cash cover?"

A smile formed on Katsu's face. "Yeah. I know it." he said. He reached over for the guitar case and took the instrument out very carefully. He took a few minutes to tune it so it sounded similar enough to the right music. He took a deep breath, shot an uncertain look at Daisuke and began playing.
And if was very quiet and barely audible over the music, but Katsu started singing along to the song. Part of him hoped Daisuke didn't hear him while the other half wished he did.
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
When he was done, he set the guitar to the side. "So... How was that?" he asked, not looking over at Daisuke.

Daisuke stretched out on his back as Katsu tuned his guitar, shooting the other man a grin when he looked to him, and then the small dorm room was filling with music. The sound of Katsu's fingers on the guitar strings seemed to fill the space completely, ensnaring both of them. But it was Katsu's soft, hesitant voice that really drew Daisuke's attention. He closed his eyes, straining to hear Katsu as he poured himself into the song, suddenly aware that his heart was hammering in his chest and his palms were beginning to sweat. He wiped his hands on his jeans, and it seemed that before he knew it the song was over. A thick silence replaced the music.
"That was..." Daisuke pushed himself up again. "Thanks. That was good. You really have an amazing voice...I never knew that."

Katsu shook his head. "No I don't. But thanks for saying it anyway." he said, his gaze on the ground. He bit his lip for a second before raising his gaze to look at Daisuke. He smiled happily at him as he pushed himself off the bed. "Let's go on that tour now~" he said. He wanted to get the tour over with so he'd be prepared for when classes start. Plus, he wanted to know where there would be nice quiet spots for when and if he ever want to be alone. Those kind of spots were hard to come by in his last school and he hoped there'd be a least one here.
He put his guitar gently back inside it's case and looked over at Daisuke. "... Unless you want to wait til later." he said. "Either way's fine by me."

"No, now's fine for me, " Daisuke smirked at Katsu's self-deprication. Did he really not realize how good he'd sounded? Either way, Daisuke slid off his bed and looked around at the mess on his side of the room for his shoes until he found them half-hidden under the bed. He yanked them on and the strode to the door pushing it open and waiting for Katsu to follow.
"Oh," he said, diggin into his pocket and producing a small key, "this is yours. Welcome home. I'm also supposed to tell you that you have to pay a ten dollar deposit on that at the financial office, but I never paid mine and no one seems to care."
Daisuke shrugged and grinned as he led the way out and locked the door behind them. "So where do you want to start? What do you want to see?"

Katsu smiled when Daisuke said that they could go on the tour now. He waited patiently while he searched for his shoes and his smile brightened when they were leaving the room.
He raised an eyebrow when he heard that noone came around for the key fee. He shrugged and put his newly aquired key into his pocket. He figured he'd hold off on paying for it as long as he could get away with it. Of course, he'll pay for it eventually. He wasn't going to not pay the money that the school could use to help boost one of their programs.
Katsu thought for a second. What did he want to see first? That was a tough question. "Uh... How about the music area. I want to see what I'll be working with."

"I guess that would be in the performing arts building, probably," Daisuke reasoned as he began leading the way toward the nearest exit. They had to weave their way through dozens of groups of people moving furniture and standing around chatting excitedly about the upcoming year. When they finally reached the stairwell Daisuke descended gratefully and threw the door at the bottom open, striding out into the sunlight.
"It's not usually that crowded in there," he explained, gesturing back at their building. "It's always the worst at the beginning of the term before everyone starts skipping all their classes and just avoiding campus. Hey, are you taking anything outside of music and performance? We might have some of the same classes."

Katsu made sure to stay close behind Daisuke as they made their way through the crowd of people in the dorm. He was extremely relieved when they made it ouside and away from the crowd. He was actually really glad it wasn't always going to be like that. He'd probably end up getting really claustraphobic one day and have a panic attack. Which is not good.
Katsu sighed in relief when he actually heard it was going to calm down once school started. "That's good." he said, looking around the campus. From what he could see, there weren't many people up and about outside right now. He figured they were all back at their dorms getting ready for the school year.
Was he taking other classes? He thought for a second then nodded. "Yeah. I'm taking psycology and other classes that have to do with the human mind. So if I don't make it in the music business, I could be a psycologist or something that would help other people."

Daisuke led katsu across the grounds, pointing out a few buildings here or there that he thought katsu might want to know of or that he had some sort of anecdote about. The performing arts building was about a ten minutes' walk, and when they finally stepped inside Daisuke glanced around uncertainly.
"I don't really know where we should start...I guess just the music theaters? I'm pretty sure those are this way." He gestured to the right and began leading the way, not completely certain that they were going the right way but sure enough to strike out. "You have any other music training aside from what you're gonna get here, or are you more self-taught? I was pretty much self-taught, except for...I don't know, maybe mechanics in high school?" He laughed. "You never took shop or mechanics or anything like that, did you? Why was that?"
