Space Academy Arcturus [HC-Gal-x-Lions]
[Any media used in this thread are property of their respective owners] Space Academy Arcturus Year: 3551 The Space Academy Arcturus, funded by the Interstellar Alliance, is a Military Academy home to thousands of students, hundreds of teaching faculty and an equivalent crew number to keep the ship running and in good condition as well as a military presence in case of emergencies. The idea of a mobile space academy had been hit upon many times in the past, however making a functional vessel for that purpose was always considered near-impossible until a joint construction project of Human and Tikarian engineering twenty-five years ago saw the birth of the first true mobile academy. The vessel was built to facilitate all races that boarded it, with dozens of large-scale internal facilities acting as the main teaching grounds for the many students inhabiting it. Language classes, Science, Arts and Crafts, Music, Drama being amongst the more mundane and well-recognized classes whilst with the advances in science and magic taught from other worlds there were many more classes created to adapt to different species or candidates with specific needs. Included in the facilities were relatively spacious and comfortable living quarters for students and faculty alike, military receiving slightly better-than-standard living quarters to match. Arcturus would thus set off around the galaxy to known worlds in friendly and neutral territories, worlds that were monitored by the Interstellar Alliance as non-hostile or otherwise potential candidates for allies, and worlds that, due to their underdeveloped status of not being space-faring yet, were placed under an Interplanetary Protection Pact, their development to be left uninterrupted and only studied from afar. However these worlds also served as prime tools where secluded parts of them could be used to study plant and animal life, often coming across more species and creature variations within safe limits. Other times the secluded areas chosen also served as training grounds and activity spots where camping and survival are taught. At the same time as being a large academy it did indeed serve the purpose of being a Military training facility as well, those students looking to be a part of the Interstellar Alliance Military could work towards that on Arcturus. And there is so much more to the Arcturus than some even suspect, given its flawless twenty years of service since first instatement, it has produced excellent soldiers and graduates that have gone on to integrate well into society, but what awaits this year? ______________________ Stars shine and we reflect Siegnes Eclaniste was an outcast. At least when it came to the other human students, where many of them had come here at the age of twelve upwards, she had appeared at the age of seventeen, having been accordingly taught before being brought on board and with only less-than-half the time left to go, living on the grand academy until she and others her age hit twenty-one. Not having lived there as long as others meant many things to the other students. She didn't fit in because she wasn't there at the beginning of her generation on the ship, they didn't know her as well, whilst they were already a community. The fact that she didn't act entirely the same as most humans made her confusing for those races still trying to understand the species, not to mention made her shunned by her own. And her odd appearance, no doubt the result of extensive cosmetic modification at the genetic level, a process frowned upon as much as Tattooing or cybernetics purely for the amnesty such things received. Yet what frustrated most was that she barely even noticed their less-than pleasant attitudes, seeming to phase past people as though their subliminal insults and dislikes that most would have caught onto were merely a fine mist for her to walk through. It was the first fortnight of the new year. And it was in this first fortnight that new students, especially the young, were assigned an older partner, some-one to go to if they felt alone, a friend to talk to or some-one simply to help guide them from place-to-place until they were capable of doing so alone. Seignes was sat in one of the observation decks, it connected to a nearby café, one of the many dotted around the ship for students to go to during break times, sometimes they even mingled with military personnel. Having real soldiers on board was a relief for some, even eye-candy for the girls that liked to pick out which one was cuter, but relationships were strictly forbidden. Such a thing would result in being expelled, or the object of a students affection being shipped off to a new position. It had happened plenty of times and never seemed to stop no matter what people did. Typical really. The silver-haired girl lifted the cup of coffee she'd gotten to her lips to take a sip. Synthetic foods had improved over the years tot he point that they could barely taste the difference, unless they were these strange, picky young men or women who seemed to believe the taste was completely different with the stubbornness of a mule. In the case of females there was often a great deal of claims that it was more fattening.. Perhaps if they just laid off the synthesized sweet-treats.. Seignes shifted a little in her seat to look at the few other students in the observation deck. They were avoiding her again.. She never did understand in the end, why people avoided her so much, her gray eyes returning to the stars outside, though her attention was grabbed by one of escort fighters outside doing fly bys and pulling simple tricks in space. Probably for the amusement of the children on board. He'd probably get reprimanded later.. But given that this last week had been quite dull she supposed he'd get off light, whoever he was. An odd realization, she wondered, that she didn't really know anyone on board. Oh she knew who the necessary faculty to see was, she knew the names of her teachers and fellow students she would be attending classes with, not that she spoke to them often, but none of them really spoke with her, no name simply jumped to mind the at she could think on and remember simply for herself. It wasn't a loneliness that bothered her, but that maybe it was something she could try to work on, if she ever got the chance for it. There were many more students she hadn't ever crossed paths with, perhaps one of them wouldn't be so distant with her.. Or was it the reverse? |
Nezero Wor'shy was the second member of her prestigious family to be part of The Space Academy Arcturus. She was a lithe, be-speckled girl, with simple brown eyes and a no-nonsense hairstyle that made it quite obvious she had been part of the daily routine of the ship for a long time. She was the younger sister of the well-known Interstellar Alliance Military Senior Officer, Officer Wor'shy, and thus, had the annoying task of trying to break out from his shadow.
Nezero was nearing her last years on the ship, she was 19 and had already finished all the basic requirement classes. Her dilemma, unfortunately, was not knowing what specialty she wanted to finish in these last two years of her station. Her brother, at her age, had already flown, and commanded, a so called "peace keeping" mission with great success. She had started her day normal enough, getting out of bed at 0500 and gracing her dorm block with her ever so lovely morning hair. Taking a vitamin and going about cleaning her room for inspection was supposed to be the highlight of her so-amazing day. She got ready quickly, sometimes speaking to girls who spoke to her first. They mostly asked about her brother, and she suspected a great many of them had a crush on him. She dressed in her year’s uniform, and entered the Café as she had every morning since she was twelve. Once again she was accosted by more admirers of her brother, and although she was greatly annoyed, she was polite and courteous to them, as to not look bad on her brothers reputation. She did not want to be known as the bitter, horrible sister of the famous Officer, who not only was rude, but disrespectful as well. After she was finally left alone, she sighed dramatically, taking in a great breath of air and letting it out slowly to calm herself down. She grabbed a cup of hot cocoa, most immature of someone her age, and went to find a seat. Her eyes fell on an odd looking girl, with long white hair who was sitting quietly by herself. Nezero watched as other kids walked by her and whispered. Was she a hybrid? Nezero had no idea. Hybrids weren’t as prejudiced against now a days as they had been with her growing up, so she didn’t understand the avoidances of the other kids. She was also very confused at the girls unfamiliarity. Nezero had been with the same people since she was twelve, yet she did not know this girl. She squared her shoulders, and walked over. She would not occupy the ship with someone who couldn’t be but a couple years younger, without knowing them. Once she got to the table, her resolve wavered a bit. She was trying to be so strong and brave like her brother, but instead she questioned herself, thus leaving her standing near a chair on the opposite side of the girl, staring at her a bit creepily. |
Seignes had been caught up in her own world as she stared out the window until she noticed the presence of another nearby. Her eyes shifted in a less-than-sudden manner, gazing up at the rather prim-and-proper student, she figured it a little odd, at first, that she was in uniform during the starting holiday, but then, maybe it was to keep with routine. But why was she just standing there? Seignes looked at the empty seat across from her, then back up at the other girl. She seemed a little older in appearance.. Seignes placed the coffee down and smiled calmly,
"It's my understanding that seats were fashioned for sitting upon, not standing beside. Unless occupied by another, of course," She mentioned, it was her own way of prompting the other girl to sit down, though she looked out of the window a moment, the fighter pilot had stopped his antics, no doubt he was getting an earful right now about show-boating. This thought brought an odd smile to her face, the kind a person tried to hide by forcing their face into a more serious look, but it was all too clear something was amusing them. Her eyes returned to Nezero, the colourless irises reflected in the light had a strangely strong look, more noticeable, perhaps because of her pale features and the silvered hair. It almost guaranteed that a persons eyes would be fixed to hers except when they weren't bothered by the oddities represented by her and other races alike. She grasped her mug of coffee again and held it closer, resting the bottom of it against her stomach but keeping it upright with her hands, "You are the first person so far to approach me because you want to. Would it be rude of me to ask what prompted you to do so?" |
Nezero was taken aback by this girls brazenness. She even looked around to see if the girl was somehow talking to someone else. When no other soul nearby appeared in her field of vision, she decided that the girl must be talking to her. "I am fully aware what the function of a chair is." she said with an edge of annoyance. She promptly took the offered seat, sipping on her hot chocolate and staring at the girl, somewhat with a hint of studying.
This girl is terribly strange... She thought, watching the girl randomly trying to hide a smile, when there was indeed nothing funny going on. "It is a bit rude." She said, answering the girls question, but remembering for her brothers sake that she had to be presentable. "But, it's not everyday I see someone your age that I do not know. Besides, you look highly different than most of us here, I guess I was just curious as to why that is so." |
The girls face remained mostly unaltered by the response, perhaps the small twitches that moved int he wya a normal person would but did not complete the full telling of an emotion. Her eyes continued to gaze in an almost lifeless way at the other girl though the presentation of her curiosity as to Seignes was enough for her to complete a smile again before looking at the window again,
"They say my appearance is the very manifestation of my genetic code, I was always meant to appear this way. Just as you were always meant to look like yourself. Is it so different?" She asked tilting her bad back a little whilst looking aside at Nezero, though reached up to take some of her own hair and hold it up to look at it, "I never really notice.. It's how I've always looked." She shrugged to herself and let go of them, turning to look more directly at her again, "As for not knowing me.. That is because they decided this year I could..-" She stopped, almost as if stuck on what she was saying, though continued on a few seconds later, ".. Attend as well.." She stopped again but it was a natural pause this time, drinking some of the coffee again, "I dont understand this.. Its such an oddly bitter drink, even with sugar.. Why do people willingly go for bitter things..? Or was this made for another race..? The scanner said I was compatible though.. Perhaps not one of my better judgements I will admit.." She wondered aloud before shifting her gaze to her right wrist. There was a solid white band, almost like a bangle, tied around the wrist of her glove, a soft flashing blue light signalling something. It was a personal Holo-Communications and Universal Translator, often shortened to a H-Com. With so many cultures to explore and so many languages to understand such devices were created to send wave-based information to the ears and mind of the wearer, translating the words of others. It was a common device recognised by all who used it, in fact it was a primary tool used in teaching, computer handling and in some cases even hacking. Various modules and upgrades could produce a wide variety of other effects but hers appeared to be a standard fresh-off-the-production-line unit. She put the cup down and pressed the blue light, instantly bringing up a cylindrical bracer of blue light that spanned the length of her forearm, this changing shape and eventually revealing an image that anyone would be able to tell was a new message waiting for her. She opened it and shifted her arm to privately view it, the word Introductions! staring back at her before her mouth opened a little and she immediately placed her left hand on her head, "Oh.. Oh right how forgetful of me..!" She stated, pressing the blue light again, the holographic device fading out as she looked in Nezero's direction again, "I forgot to introduce myself.. These things sometimes slip my mind. The name I was given is Seignes N. Eclaniste, the N is for Noé." |
Nezero watched various emotions play across this girls face and studied them silently. "This is why my drink of choice always has been that of the sweeter variety. I suppose it's a sign of adulthood to drink something you find unpleasant." She had chosen not to question the girls previous statements about her genetics, as she had already been quite rude. After a few more moments, she started looking around the Cafe at the other people. More than a few kept glancing over at them with curious expressions. Nezero was quite confused as well, as she didn't understand this type of attention. Shrugging it off she took a drink of her hot chocolate, setting the cup down and watching the girl as she talked. She seemed interesting enough, a bit defensive, but otherwise a breath of fresh air from the types that Nezero had usually grown up with.
As the girl received a call, Nezero tried to pretend the table she was at was very interesting, to at least give the girl the illusion of privacy. As the girl finished the call, Nezero looked back up and listened to her introduction. "Seignes, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am Nezero Ritis Wor'shy." She said simply. "If you don't mind me prying, and I'm sorry if I am, but why is it you are just starting now? Or, excuse my wording if it's inappropriate, why is it you are being allowed to start now?" |
"They said I wasn't ready before recently.." Seignes smiled calmly, her eyes closed as she seemed to picture in her head, "They were worried I wouldn't do well.. I promised I would be fine. They still worry about potential failure.." She opened her eyes to look at Nezero, tilting her head a little once more, "Nezero Ritis Wor'Shy.." She started, seeming to question something in her head before speaking once more, "I have seen that others gather around you, and talk to you often.. Why is this..?" She questioned with a slightly blank look, she really didn't know, that much was certain,
"That is.. How did you put it.. If you dont mind me prying?" She repeated Nezero's sentence, she understood the meaning, but it was almost as if she'd never used it herself, she seemed to pick up on it well enough though. It was interesting in its own way that a popularly followed girl was sitting opposite from one the others avoided distinctly. The others didn't know whether to approach or stay their distance, or what to expect from the situation, Seigness faced it all with a divine calmness, no attitude, a method of speaking that made her seem rude, yes, but offence was about the last thing she could mean to cause, not that the others really recognised this, "They say I should try to.. Interact with others..? My attempts have caused a few problems I believe.. Is there something I am doing wrong..?" Seignes asked, looking at Nezero more intently, "I was wondering if it was something you knew that I did not. A way to bring others to you..?" |
Nezero scoffed at Seignes, finally coming to the end of her drink. "I do not bring others to me." She said with a hint of bitterness. "They all crowd around me because my brother is Senior Officier Wor'shy, and they hope that I will put in a good word for them in a romantic sense. I have no friends that do not hit on my brother. In fact, you are the first female I have encountered in years who did not immediately recognize my last name."
Nezero sighed heavily, as if thinking of how to word her next statement without seeming blunt. "You're social skills do not scare me off, nor your appearance. Maybe it's because you are new, yet an older student that makes others retreat? Being different is not a blessing among this particular age group". Nezero took off her glasses, laying them on the table for a moment and letting them self clean. "I've become quite annoyed with the constant groups of people, but I must not speak in a manner as to offend, or my brothers reputation could be effected." |
Seignes listened to the other girl intently, shaking her head softly when Nezero mentioned her not recognizing the name,
"I'm not prized for my knowledge of people or the worlds and races.." She replied, drinking the last of the coffee and making a disdainful face before putting the mug down, "Its shameful to waste something.. But I certainly wont have another.." Seignes mentioned, putting her mug aside and looking at the glasses on the table for a moment while processing what Nezero had told her, the social skills and appearance werent a problem to her? But others certianly seemed bothered by her.. "They say that being different is what makes your special.." Seignes finally stated, her brow furrowing, "But the others seem to dislike differences.. People are confusing.." The girl finally looked back up at Nezero, leaning forward with her arms folded on the table, "But you are not so bothered.. They say that some-one who is accepting of my differences would be a potential friend.." She smiled a little once again, a faint hopeful look on her features, "Would that mean you would be mine? I have none to name or speak of. They had their reasons for isolating me, but their concerns have lessened since then, it is good to be out amongst so many new people, there's so many different beings to see, things to try and people to speak to.. Though I'm still trying to get the hang of that last one.." |
A small smile cracked upon the otherwise stoic face of Nezero. How could someone so bluntly just ask to be a friend? The bluntness of it amused her quite a bit, and she coughed to cover up a slight giggle that she was afraid might bubble out of her throat. She thought the question out thoroughly, but thought the word 'friends' was a little immature of someone in her position. "How about... allies." She stated, tucking a piece of her brunette hair out of her face and behind her ear. She didn't know whether a handshake would be appropriate at this point in time, so she refrained.
|
Seignes tilted her head in a slightly confused manner for a moment, staring at Nezero as she drifted off into her own little world again, she remembered things like this, studying for long hours to try and understand things she didn't, sometimes she'd get even more confused, especially with the english language and how so many things could meant he same thing and the same thing could mean so many,
"It falls under the same meaning.. Doesn't it..?" Seignes asked, her eyes blinking as she looked at Nezero again, curious, "Allies and Friends.. Is there a difference I'm missing..? At least in practice they seem the same.. Though truthfully I've never practised, I only have theory.." The odd girl looked out at the window, but then seemed to freeze up again before turning around sharply the other way to look over her shoulder at a nearby balcony, this followed by her getting up over to it so she could half jog-half run over and lean over it to look down at another area linked to the observation deck on a lower level. Younger children were playing in a large court, they couldn't be heard because of the thick crystalline buffer between the two areas, but she smiled all the same, imagining the sounds in her head, "I've always dreamed of playing with others.. Ever since I could first understand.." She stood taller, hands still ont he rail at the edge, they were one level above another area where more older students were and there were more eyes staring at her from across their level. She turned, leaning against it calmly and looking over at Nezero, "Do you play, Ally Nezero?" she questioned, tilting her head with a slight smile, she figured putting her desired title as a prefix might be the right thing to do since it was what Nezero had requested. |
"Ah yes, it can be the same meaning, but it's a bit more." Nezero added, following the strange girl to the balcony. "It also means, that I've got your back in a rough situation. My word is my bond." She said, clicking her heels and saluting the girl in a playful manner.
Nezero raised a brow at the wistful look in Seignes' eyes. "Play?" This word was almost foreign to Nezero and she had to run through the equivalent of it in her head. "Oh... well I've trained, that's a form of playing isn't it?" She smiled, looking down at the kids. "You know, Capture the Base, King of the Planet, Shoots and Lazers?" She asked, wondering if any of those games rang a bell to Seignes. |
"But how would you have my back..? It's quite firmly attached to the rest of me.." Seignes responded, looking over her shoulder and turning a circle a moment trying to view it before going the other way, "It is still there is it not..?" She asked in an almost rhetorical fashion before reaching over her shoulder to pat at it while looking at Nezero oddly, though after a moment to down the concept in her mind she took on an oddly nervous face,
"O-oh.. It was a metaphor..! Forgive me.." She placed her hands in front of herself and bowed softly. Once she stood straight again she placed a hand behind her head with a soft grin, "I can be so slow at times.." Seignes titled her head then, "I cant say I recall any training simulators with those titles, I was placed in such things as Youth Learning, Language modules, Social Conduct and Situational Adaptivity.." She looked aside, down at the other children again, "They said it was to," She paused, seeming to try and get it right in her head before she spoke again, "Enable me proper function in real world environments. Though I'm afraid I didn't complete them very well, so many things still confuse me.." "Well you're certainly not doing too badly," A voice came from not far behind Nezero. It was the Chief Medical Officer, Mr. Grantham. He was a human, no taller than six feet, chin-length brown hair with faint grey streaks beginning to show and a pleasant face. Dressed appropriately in his medical uniform. His voice sparked something in Seignes as she immediately rushed over to him and wrapped her arms around his torso, "Doctor!" She cried much like a child would with the elation of seeing their parent after a long time, "Woah, easy there Seignes." He stated calmly patting at the top of her head as she quite happily snuggled into his chest, though she let go then, looking up at him with a smile, "I made a new.." She paused, placing her finger to her lips before moving it away, "Ah, the word was Ally!" "So I see.. And none other than Miss Nezero Wor'shy herself.." The doctor chuckled, looking over at the elder girl and smirking wryly, "How curious.." |
"Dr. Grantham, sir" Nezero said, saluting him appropriately. She was a bit shocked that a supposed patient of Dr. Grantham would be so forward as to hug him. It was quite shocking indeed. She stopped her salute and tried to smile back in a polite manner. "If you'll excuse my forwardness, Doctor, but why is that curious?" She asked, looking over at him with a brow furrowed.
((Sorry I couldn't think of anything longer to post D: )) |
[It's alright :P just dun keep me waiting so long! :gonk:]
"Well its been deliberated as to whom we should trust to be Seignes' greeter, seeing as its her first time, and of the candidates, noble sons and daughters, military families all, I made it a point to float your name in particular to the top." He smirked, the silver-haired girl looking between the two curiously, but fairly clueless in expression, "Seignes needs some-one who is down-to-earth, so to speak. Not some silly child who happily paints their words with pleasantries.." He looked over his shoulder, the other kids were still keeping their distance, whispering among themselves or not even paying attention, chatting as they always did. Dr.Grantham looked at Nezero again, "Its a duty that will reflect on your profile very well, I'll tell you more another time, but for now.." He changed attention to Seignes again, "Lets see then? How are you?" He asked, the girl happily holding her right arm up to him. The doctor took her arm gently, producing a medical scanner, no larger than his palm, several blips of light shifting on the surface, producing soft-light lasers that ran along Seignes' arm, "No pains or stiffness?" He asked, Seignes shaking her head, "Nope! I'm still good, doctor." She replied, not shifting as he squeezed the wrist first, then at her elbow and shoulder, "It's been three weeks and no incident, this is a good sign." He replied calmly, the smile on the girls face only brightening more, "Just make sure to call me the moment something happens, I'd rather it never happen but we can never be too sure," He added mildly, something about it seemed routine, suggesting he'd been taking care of her a lot longer than this, and considering he never left the ship it wasn't conceivable he could have been diagnosing her off-station. The doctor then looked at Nezero with the kind of gaze that spoke of purpose, "Keep an eye on her, Miss Wor'shy, I'm counting on you, is that understood?" |
Nezero's chest puffed with his words of "recommendations" and "duty". She listened on, hiding her confusion on to what he was actually proposing. Was Seignes sick? She sure seemed very well watched by the doctor. Nezero wanted to ask, but as the doctor was talking, she refrained from interrupting. "Yes sir!" Nezero shouted at his question, saluting him again and then relaxed. "Although, since we are allies, she will be keeping an eye on me as well." She stated, adding a rare yet husky laugh at the end that not many got to experience.
When she was sure the Doctor was finished talking, she turned to Seignes. "Are you sick?" She asked, raising a brow. "I mean, are you okay?" She rephrased, a look of concern washing across her face. |
The doctor smiled, amused and a little thankful that Nezero was willing to accept the duty, there were a few more reasons for why he'd chosen her for the candidacy but he'd keep them to himself as he patted Seignes on the head once more, the girl grinning in a way that no doubt reflected her personal happiness. The link between them was probably a little more than doctor and patient.
Seignes looked over at Nezero when she asked her question then rephrased it but then shook her head a little, "Not now..? Do I look unwell..?" She wondered, checking her arms quickly, nothing though, atleast there was nothing different yet. "She has a history of illness. Nothing contagious, its a defect that is unique to her." Dr. Grantham stated mildly, "We've been trying to correct it for some time. Beyond that, she's as healthy as any other girl her age." The girl beamed proudly again, placing her hands on her hips, "You two are very lucky." Dr. Grantham smiled as he backed off, "Now I have to return to work." He adjusted his uniform calmly and turned, pocketing the medical device. Seignes waved to the doctor but then returned to Nezero, that odd lookon her face again, spelling a certain confusion, "Lucky..?" She wondered, but shook it off and crossed her hands behind her, "Where should we go, Nezero? I haven't found any places I really like yet, I do kinda miss being with the doctor while he's working.. But I think that's.. What's the term..? Home sickness?" She sighed a little but then shrugged to herself then, seeming to get excitable as she thought of more things to ask and say, "Well anyway! where do you like going? Dr Grantham said there's a HoloLibrary facility, or can you show me one of your favourite training games? Are there any pretty views of the ship? I've never seen the outside of it very clearly.. I bet its beautiful!" |
Seignes was talking a mile a minute and Nezero smirked trying to take in all she was saying. She had never had an actual conversation with a girl near her age that didn't involve her brother, so she found it very much like foreign territory. She was actually at a loss of words. Or rather, she didn't know where to start. She felt excitement well up in her chest, of all the things she could help this girl experience. She figured the easiest thing to start off with would be a nice, safe, beautiful view.
"Everyone is lucky in their own way." Nezero said wisely, nodding her head. "I am glad you are not sick." She added, surprising herself with the truth of her words. She had just met this girl and yet she did find that she was very glad the girl was not in any weakened state. She smiled again, her mouth not used to using such muscles, and started to walk away from the balcony. "Come on, I know a great place with a view." She stated confidently, turning around and hoping Seignes followed. |
Seignes smiled when Nezero stated her relief at the strange girls health, but she remained quiet for now, head shifted tot he side at an odd angle again when the older girl mentioned she knew a great place. The prospect was all too alluring as Seignes trustingly fell in line besides Nezero, hands clamped together behind herself as she walked. There was contentment upon her face again, not overly happy, but certainly not upset, she simply seemed stable.
Her curiosity as to what exactly the other girl was going to show her was nagging at her mind but the fact of the matter was she'd be seeing it soon anyway, why ask about it? She barely even noticed the other girls giving the two strange looks, seeing Nezero hang out with the other unnatural girl was probably going to start some rumors, but that was simply the way life was in a school environment. Siegnes remained oblivious to these less-desirable aspects, for which she was probably as lucky as Nezero had suggested. Once they'd cleared the doors tot he cafe area, Siegnes lifted her right arm again to activate the H-Com, again the royal blue bracer of light shimmered to life around her forearm as she scrolled through it to check the settings and various other things, after a moment the blue color changed to a purple one instead, the text turning white so as to be readable. She then changed to what looked like a 3D map that displayed their current location, it had begun recording their journey from the Cafe, perhaps so Siegnes could use it again later should she forget. Seignes put the device into standby again, hands folding behind her as she looked aside to Nezero, "Have you ever been off Arcturus?" She asked then, head tilted again. |
Nezero didn't respond at first, she had indeed been off Arcturus, she just didn't remember it. She was far too young to recall the trip, and she wasn't even sure where she had gone. She had known it was something to do with her brother, like to watch some kind of Aeriel combat training mission he was participating in as a new flier, but she really had no idea where they watched it at. She only knew this had occurred because her family always talked about how it was where her brother got his start, and how they had hoped that making Nezero watch it would make her more inclined to join the ranks of the fliers as well. It hadn't.
Nezero contemplated this and then finally answered, knowing she had probably taken up a lot more time in thinking of the answer than she would actually answering it. "Once, I think. I don't remember it. My parents talk about it sometimes, they said we went to an actual planet to watch him fly his first space fighter." She shrugged as if it wasn't that big a deal. "I grew up here..." She finished, walking through another door off of the hallway. She stopped before she reached a door at the end of the hallway. "Now, I'm about to show you one of my favorite places to come and think. I have the key card to get in, which isn't always given out to people." She puffed her chest out importantly, swiping the card. She walked through the door, beckoning Seignes through with her. As she looked forward she took a deep breath, it was a room filled with plants and flowers from all over different planets they had encountered. This was one of the few places on the ship where she really got any kind of privacy. The flowers were arranged by category, the ones that grew like normal plants, sun and water, were on the left, while the more carnivorous variety were on the right. "Look at this view!" Nezero gushed, pointing out over the room to the big bay window with the artificial sun shining behind it. "Have a look around, just stay near the left side because the meat eating plants are on the right." She explained, walking down the steps into the artificially made greenhouse. |
Seignes made a soft gasp, eyes wide and jaw agape at the very sight, trying to take it in as she wandered in almost aimlessly. She'd never seen anything like it in her life, not that she could remember, everything seemed so extraordinary, all the vivid colours and even the lush smell of the many plants and aromas they released, she looked about at them all quite eagerly, almost oblivious to Nezero's warnings about the carnivorous plants and wandered to the left at first.
She reached a hand out to pet the flowers of one plant gently, fingers able to feel the smooth, silken texture of the petals, however she then wandered to the right hand side, and one could see the more hostile plants beginning to react to her presence, however they seemed to come to an odd pause as she got closer, slowly relaxing again, this only inciting a giggle from Seignes as she looked closer to one in particular, not unlike earths venus fly traps but the jaw was four-angled and alot tougher thanks to evolving in a more dangerous environment. Seignes patted the base of it, the belly where small animals were commonly digested, before wandering away again, still looking around in disbelief. "Its so beautiful..! I've been in simulators of gardens but this is so much better.." She stated in an almost dream-like manner, still in awe of it all as she made her way back to Nezero, hands together again, "I can see why you'd like it here so much, there's so much life, but its so peaceful..!" She rested her head upon her hands, positively glowing under the artificial light, an odd radiance of sorts, but perhaps due only to her unusual appearance, "Thank you Nezero," The girl smiled, "I've never had so much to enjoy, I certainly never believed I'd see anything like this.." |
Nezero watched Seignes browse, her smile still plastered along her face. She had never shown another soul this place that wasn't already mandated by her flora teacher the previous years. "No!" She shouted, as Seignes wandered over to the carnivorous plants. "You'll get.... hurt?" Her sentence tapered off, and her mouth went agape as the plants seemed to calm down when Seignes came near. How is that possible? Nezero thought, not bothering to hide her shocked face. I've seen that Biozure's Cactus take off a researchers hand in a matter of milloseconds! She finally closed her mouth and narrowed her eyes. There was something really suspicious about this girl, and being headstrong she decided that beating around the bush wasn't the way to go about it.
As Seignes came back, Nezero looked at her. Really trying to examine and see what made this girl so odd. ""I'm glad you liked it, really, but how did you get those plants to act stable? I've been coming here for years and anytime anything made of flesh came near, they attacked without bias." She shook her head, was this girl some kind of alien plant species? She had heard of them, but had never seen any. |
Seignes looked at Nezero in something of a confused matter. She certainly seemed concerned all of a sudden, but Seignes really didn't understand exactly why, at least until Nezero stated the viciousness of the plants. The silver-haired girl looked back at the plants a moment, then back to the older girl, head tilted as she tried to understand it herself before shrugging softly,
"I don't know..? I just knew I could." She stated almost bluntly, but looked back at the plants again, "They're really meant to be that dangerous..?" She wondered aloud, seemingly just as confounded as her new friend before she finally gave up on trying to figure it out, "I always have certain feelings like I can do or cant do things, like there's some-one real close giving me a hug or pushing me away. Like.." She put her finger to her lips, trying to think of an example before snapping her fingers, "Like the General!" She stated, "I try to talk to him but I feel all scared, so I always hide or stay away when I can, but with Dr Grantham I always feel like I can talk to him. Don't you get that feeling too?" The General wasn't an ambiguous term on Arcturus. There was a man, General Stratholmé, another human on board. He oversaw the military side of things on the ship, he was a man with a hard look about him, almost unpleasant at times, but he'd done a good job of protecting the academy, so people wrote off his bad attitude as personal issues he had under relative control. Few people actually willingly talked to him though. |
Nezero shuttered a little bit at the mention of The General. She had seem him way more in her life than she had wanted too. She respected the man, but her fear of him was just as evident. Nezero had the feeling that he wasn't above doing certain things to get his way, and even though she had no proof of it, she was sure he had at some point. Nezero didn't really know what to say, as she was still very much shocked that Seignes had no harm from the violent flora. She was silent for a moment, trying to arrange her words carefully.
"To be honest, not unless you count the basic conscience everyone should have, no. What you're describing sounds a lot more... material than that." She looked over at the plants again, her brow furrowed. "Does the Doctor know this? Is that why you have to see him so much?" Nezero asked, shuffling her feet. Oh my gosh is this girl insane? Have I befriended one of those mental patients? Why would the doctor want me to watch her if she was so unstable...? Nezero thought morbidly, her lip twitching a little bit with a need to frown. |
"I dont get it.." The girl replied as to Nezero's analogy of her feelings, but when she questioned about Dr. Grantham she nodded, "The Doctor says I was born with special abilities.. Oh! I guess this is one of them?" She wondered, giggling a little and placing her hands under her chin "I can make mean plants nice! Think its like my magic? The doctor says that's one of my greatest abilities."
The thought about why she had to see the doctor so much then interrupted her train of thought and she frowned, seemingly confused again, "Well I dont know..? I've known the doctor my whole life." She replied, folding her hand sin front of her, "He's always been taking care of me, he says I'm incomplete and its why it hurts so much sometimes. He always says that one day he'll find what I'm missing, but I really dont know what he means.. But until then he said he needs to take care of me. Maybe that's why he was so worried about me being away..?" She pondered this quietly to herself, though looked at Nezero, before lowering her head, "Or is it because I'm so different..? I try to make friends but no-one wants to be near me.. Its okay if you want to leave too.. I'll just go back to the doctor.." The girl quietly turned back towards the door, slinking towards it. She supposed it was to be predicted. No-one seemed to want to be near her, they always did whisper behind her, did everyone react like Nezero? It didn't make sense. She really thought she'd been making progress for the first time. At least one person to be a friend. Its all she wanted. |
