Uchiha Itachi was the newest teacher at Konoha Academy. The youngest as well. Despite his age, and lack of tenure, the mans reputation preceded him. At 26, he'd been teaching for 5 years already, and had never had a single student fail his class. Not for underhanded techniques of false grades either. Scores on standardized tests rose infinitely in the students he taught, and though he was known as a strict educator, most of his pupils had very little to say about him that was negative. 'Stern, quiet, lacking a very clear sense of humor', those were the words that circled behind him, followed swiftly by 'thorough, understanding, and patient'. It didn't help that he was attractive. Being so young, in shape, and a member of the prestigious Uchiha family, he was one of the most eligible bachelors in the region. Or he would be if he didn't seem so frigid towards his female colleagues. Many women had been left dejected and refused by him, after their bold advances were shot down with little emotion behind his eyes or voice.

He wasn't teaching to find a wife.

After a scandalous incident at his previous school, in which a female student attempted suicide after he effectively shut down her attempts at seducing him, Itachi resigned from that particular institution and finally applied at the one school he'd been wanting to teach at since he himself had been a student. Konoha Academy. It was the best in the region, and he would know, having attended the private school when he was a youth. Honestly, he'd been surprised when they'd hired him, knowing that the recent event at Suna High had been big news. Headmistress Tsunade knew Itachi, though, and had faith in him, hiring the young man against the councils wishes. She had problem students who needed a teacher like him.

So at the start of the new term, Itachi was there, settled into his classroom, and prepared for this new adventure. Of course, he had no idea what was coming his way. As he usually did, Itachi was in his classroom almost an hour prior to the bell ringing for class to commence. He enjoyed the quiet solace of an empty school. It was relaxing to him. And even though, as he relaxed in his chair, he did not smile, there was a serene calmness about him. Eyes closed behind a pair of thin, wire rimmed glasses, he took in a deep breath. Dark brown, nearly black, eyes opened just as the bell rang, and the young educator stood, turning to the backboard to write out his name. He wasn't incredibly tall, but at 5'11, for a Japanese man, he was an imposing figure. His body looked lean and hard under his black slacks and white dress shirt that fit him snugly. Slowly, students began to filter in, and his stoic face hardened just a little, into an expression that meant business. He wasn't going to allow any delusions of him being a friend or someone to be taken lightly. He was a teacher, and a damned good one. Waiting until the second bell rang, Itachi finally turned, and looked over all of his students, watching them settle, and look right back up at him curiously. Finally their was silence.

"My name is Uchiha Itachi. I'll be your new homeroom teacher for the rest of the year. I have high expectations, and an open door policy. I expect every single on of you to get an A in my class, and all of your other ones as well. I don't care if I don't teach that class, if you're failing a subject, I will step in and change that. I'm 26 years old, and I also attended this school when I was your age. Are their any questions before I take roll?" His voice was soft, a subtle velvet. He didn't need to yell to command their attention, his voice drawing and captivating all on his own. Most of the students stared at him in surprise.

Naruto Uzumaki mumbled lightly in his sleep as the sound of an alarm blasted through the dorm room. He hit the snooze button a few times before he actually managed to turn it off. He rolled over and was planning on falling back asleep, but the light flashed on and his eyes closed tighter to block the invading light. He pulled the blanket over his head, wanting to get a bit more sleep before he had to get up, but the blanket was pulled off him. That was when he sat up and shot a glare at his roommate and best friend, Sasuke Uchiha.

"Hey! What's the big idea anyway?" he asked, his glare faltering as a yawn overpowered him. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and rubbed some sleep from his dark blue eyes. He stretched his arms as he forced himself out of the bed.

"Get out of bed. You're not being late again." Sasuke said, already dressed and ready for the day. It was amazing how Naruto hadn't noticed the light coming on earlier. But then again, he wasn't really awake until the alarm went off.

Naruto whined and pulled some clothes out of his dresser. "Yeah.. Whatever." he said, getting dressed. He ran a hand through his hair quickly, not in the mood to actually get around and brushing it. "It's not as if it's going to make a difference. I'm basically failing everything anyway."

It was true that Naruto wasn't the smartest guy in the school. Plus he was a huge troublemaker in the school, so that didn't help with his wanting to be in class. He only went to class in order to goof off and have fun with friends. He could honestly care less about his grades. But now that he thought about it, they were getting a new teacher today. New teacher means new possibilities of getting on someone else's nerves. The though brought a smile to his face.

"Alright. Alright.. I'm ready." Naruto said, grabbing his bag and following after Sasuke to their homeroom. He took a seat in the back of the room, glancing at their new teacher's back. He raised an eyebrow lightly when he heard what his name was and shot a glance at Sasuke. So they were related? This was just getting better and better. He tipped his chair back and rested his feet on his desk as he rested his hands on the back of his head.

"I bet I could fail out of this class." he said, seeing what was said as a challenge. If this 'Itachi' thought he could make Naruto pass, then this would be a great opportunity to prove him wrong. Even though he didn't like failing, but he figured it'd be worth it just to prove a point.

Itachi had not missed the comment from the young blond. His eyebrows raised curiously, and he walked around his desk to lean back against the edge, his ankles crossing casually as he grabbed his folder for roll call. He'd collected notes from the other teachers on the students he was to have. The longest set of notes he had were beside three students. Haruno Sakura, Uchiha Sasuke, and Uzumaki Naruto. Haruno he had already identified to be a young pink haired girl, sitting right up in front, paying rapt attention to him with glimmering green eyes. Immediately he was disgusts. She was noted to be smart, incredibly so. Especially in biology and other sciences. Sasuke he already knew well enough, to skip over his notes. The boy was his own snot nosed brother. Their was enough bad blood between them, though. Ever since their parents accident, and Itachi enrolling Sasuke in this school rather than raising him at home.... Things had been strained.

Uzumaki Naruto. Class Clown, trouble student. There could have been a file folder for all the notes and warnings he'd received about this kid. And from the physical description, there was no doubt this was the one who'd spoken. "Uzumaki Naruto." He called out, his black eyes landing right on the boy. Setting his folder back down, Itachi stood up straight and walked over, his long legs carrying him easily over. One strong hand lifted the blonds feet from the desk, dropping them down onto the floor, before he stepped behind Naruto, pushing his chair in until the desk met his sternum. "Sit properly, do not speak out of turn, and do not underestimate me." He said in a calmly stoic voice, having leaned down to speak directly into the blonds ear.

Finally, he stood up straight again, and headed back up to the front, taking attendance, before getting right into the lesson. Most of the students started out the class actually a little afraid of this new teacher. But as he worked, speaking to them, it became clear that he was much easier to talk to than he came across. He explained things easily, and thoroughly, in ways that everyone could understand. Even some of the students he knew to be lacking in fundamentals. Apart from Naruto and Sasuke, Itachi was confident.

Naruto had had a confident smile on his face, thinking that Itachi couldn't hear him. That would help him start with his plans of disruption and as stated earlier, failing the class. His gaze drifted across the classroom while the teacher grabbed the roll-call folder to see who all was in his homeroom again this year. It was the same every year, but he was always on the look-out for new students to befriend. His attention finally came to a stop on the back of Sakura's head. Now there's a girl who's hard to get. One of the only reasons Naruto goofed off in class was to get the attention of the one girl he really liked. The other reason was because he loved to have a good laugh and have everyone around him laugh, either with him or at him, it didn't really matter. But no matter how hard he tried, all Sakura did was look at him like he was an idiot.

His attention was called abruptely back to Itachi when his name was called and the smile faded rather quickly from his face. It appeared that the new teacher had heard his little comment. He wasn't scared though and the smile came back onto his face just as quickly as it had disappeared. He watched as Itachi came over to him. His feet made a semi-silent thump on the ground upon contact and Naruto felt the air leave his lungs as his chest hit his desk. When he heard that stoic voice, one that was very different from Sasuke, the blond felt cold chills run down his spine.

Normally he wold have taken that as a sign to back off, but for some reason, that only made him more determined now to actually fail this class and prove this new guy wrong. As soon as he was walking away, Naruto scooted his chair back from his desk so he had a little room to breath. The smile was gone from his face now and he spent the rest of the class time thinking of ways to annoy Itachi. He went through his prank book mentally, wondering which ones would work and which ones wouldn't... The best way to find out would just to try them all, right? The thought brought the smile back to his face by the time the bell rang, signalling the end of class.
