Yumiko has been friends with him since they were little. But after his family's death...he went into total shock leading him to go a bit wacky, Yumiko being a popular girl is often questioned about why she hangs out with the loon, but she just gets angry and tells people off. Yumiko ran out of the house as she grabbed the car keys. She was running five whole minutes late and she still needed to pick up Ulric! "Crap..." she muttered, just as she was about to lock the house she realized she had forgotten the lunches. Rushing back and nearly tripping she made her way back to the kitchen. Grabbing the homemade lunch boxes she rushed out again, she started up the car putting on her seatbelt as she drove out onto the street.

She let out a deep breath of sigh as she made it to Ulric's house. She smiled to herself at the thought of her childlike best friend. She left the car on idle as she ran out of her car and knocked on the door, Yumiko waited patiently as she waited for Ulric to come out so she could drive them both to school. This was their usual routine, she loved the smile that he always gave her in the morning.

Yumiko tucked her soft brown hair behind her eyes, she raised her eyebrow and rolled her amber golden eyes. Was her best friend sleeping in again? "Yooooo! Ulric!" she yelled as her forehead pressed against the window trying too peer in from the outside. She pouted and rang the door bell once as she jumped up and down slightly, Yumiko was known to be an impatient, jittery young woman.

Ulric was sleeping in again and only woke up when he heard Yumiko yell. He quickly jumped up and cursed, "this isn't good." he said as he got up and pulled on a shirt. He didn't care if he worse his pj pants to school, it had become a usual thing for him. He then slipped on his sandles in a hurry and picked up his bag. He then walked over to his window as he slugn his bag over his shoulder.

He then hopped out the window and closed it behind him. He smiled when he saw Yumiko, "hey, sorry to make you wait. I kind of just woke up." he said as he looked at her and smiled. He then wrapped a arm around her and started to lead her out of there. "now come on, schools a waiting." he said as he lead her towards the car.

ONce they got there he hopped into the passanger side and yawned a little bit. "so what are we going to do after school today?" he said since that was the only thing he really cared about anymore. He loved spending time with Yumiko and he always looked forward to what they did after school. It was the only time he felt like his oldself anymore, where he was the boy she remembered instead of this messed up guy he was.

Yumiko shook her head, "I think I will buy you an alarm clock for your upcoming birthday Ulric" she said teasingly. She raised an eye brow as she saw him in his PJ's again. Thankfully she had a pair of school uniform in the trunk of her brothers car, Yumiko watched as Ulric hurriedly jumped into the passenger seat. She calmly made her way to the trunk lifting it open she grabbed the slightly dusty pants out.

Yumiko blushed as he put his arms around her and literally dragged her down his pathway to her car."I figured you would be just waking up" she said with a sigh. She laughed, "since when have you cared about school" Yumiko said sticking out her tongue. It seemed that Ulric was always super excited in the morning but as the day dragged on...his mood seemed to get worse and worse.

Jumping into the driver seat she threw the pants too Ulric. "You're going to get suspended if you show up in your pajamas everyday Ulric." she said in a slightly worried tone. It was like she had suddenly been morphed into Ulric's mother, father and best friend all into one. She drove slightly over the speed limit as she thought about his question.

"Well, I don't know...anything you want to I guess. We can go watch a movie, or have dinner, a sleep over or just be lazy and lie on the beach looking at the setting sun" Yumiko said shrugging. "Oh! Ulric! Did you finish the science assignment?! Its worth ten percent of our mark!" she asked him worried. Ever since the accident her smart straight A best friends mark had dropped significantly.

Ulric smirked, "if you get me a alarm clock it iwll be smashed in a week." he said and ment it completely. he would take a bat to it and then burie it in his back yard. He then leaned back in his seat and smirked, "and I never cared about school. Not in a long time." he said since he stopped caring when his dad died. HIs father had been the one to get him to do everything and encouraged him to do better. But now that he was done he couldn't handle it.

He then smirked as he switched out of his pjs and into the pants, "and I would be happy if I got expeled, school is unimportant and it is a waist of time. I would prefer to be at home anyways." he said as he looked at her and wished he didn't have to go. It was a waist of time and the kids teased him and his dead dad most of the time. It was half the reasons he went crazed.

"how about if we go to the beach for a little while after school and relax." he said as he smiled at her and coudln't wait for school to be over. When he heard about hte homework assinment he smirked, "it was a waist of time so I didn't do it. Its not like it is going to help me anyways." he said as he looked at her and relaxed. Everything exept for spending time with her was a waist of time.

He sighed when he saw they where at school and looked at her, "guess it is time for us to go in." he said and already you coudl see his mood changing. It was like he had been on the top of a rolercoster and was now headed down to the bottom. By the end of the day he was probably going to be in the priciples office or off to the guidence counceler. He didn't really care, they where like friends to him, only friends he hated.

Yumiko rolled her eyes, "I know you would never smash anything that I give you" she told him smugly. "I'm your best friend...well...at least I hope I am." she told him giggling. "H..HEY!" she said blushing as she closed her eyes briefly. "I threw the pants at you so you could change in the boys BATHROOM Ulric West! Ever heard of one?! Its where you change clothes!" Yumiko's cheek were burning. Sure he was her best friend and they often went to the beach together and what not...but he was changing his PANTS!

Sighing she rolled her eyes,"Yeah well...you have to go to school because you're graduating this year! And then...you and me...we're heading to University" she said grinning. "And if you aren't there...I'll be lonely and sad...unless thats a part of your plan and you like seeing me sad..." she said guilt tripping him. Yumiko loved to make him feel guilty, especially when he talked about dropping out of school. She reached over and messed his already messy red hair, she loved the colour of his hair she giggled softly as she made the turn too school.

Yumiko nodded, "Yeah, I would love that." she sighed as she imagined the feel of the water droplets on her skin. She loved the salty smell of the sea and the feel of the white sand between her bare toes. She frowned, "You..didn't do it...?" she asked softly, she shook her head. "Oh Ulric..." she muttered as she parked the car in their usual parking spot, underneath the cherry blossom tree.

She got out of the car and stood beside him. "OH wait! Before you go," she walked around to the back passenger seats and grabbed her bag and the homemade lunch box. Blushing she shyly gave it too him, "I've been noticing that you didn't have a lunch for the past few days so...I...kinda made you one so you wouldn't be hungry...it has all your favourite things" she told him laughing.

She sighed, "since we have science third and then lunch...please please finish the science assignment..please Ulric" she asked him pouting as she locked the car and slung her side bag over her shoulders. Yumiko didn't want him to fail any class for any reason!

Ulric smiled at her, "your right I wouldn't, you are my best friend." he said and then looked down at the ground. he treasued everything that she gave him, he made sure they never broke and stayed in mint condition. He could never break them, they where from the one person who cared about him. He then smirked, "hey, it would take to long if I headed into the bathroom." he said as he looked at her and smiled.

He then nodded and smiled at her, "dont worry, I wont let you go alone to the university." he said and looked down at the ground, "it is just hard is all." he said softly and it was very hard. After his father died it was like he had a hole in his chest and he felt like there was nothing to live for. But thanks to her, he could live nad slowly he was gaining his sanity back. But it was very slow.

He then shook his head about the project and knew she was diapointed. But in truth he had a little episode yesturday and coudln't of done it. If you looked in his house you could tell and if he hadn't worn long sleaves today you would be able to see as well. When he got the lunch he looked at it and then smiled at her, "thanks, you know your too good to me." he said and ment it. He was hopeless and yet she helped him.

He then nodded as he took his bag and started to walk to school. "dont worry, I promise I will have it done." he said and always kept his promises to her. Even if he spazzed when he did this he would finish it.

Yumiko giggled, "I'm glad you treasure everything" she smiled softly. The truth was, ever since she was little she had also cherished all the small presents her best friend had given her. She rolled her eyes, "It might have taken longer but at least you wouldn't have scarred me for life you pervert" she said teasingly. She stretched out her back as both Ulric and Yumiko made way towards the school.

"You better not Ulric! Or else...I...I won't go either" she told him pouting. "And you know I'm serious when I say that Ulric!" she said sighing. "I know its hard Ulric...but you have to try. You have to try hard, Ulric...you're smart, I know that for sure." she said smiling. She frowned as she linked her arm through his, "So...promise me that from today..you will try your hardest!" she asked him eagerly.

"H..hey...Ulric...is something wrong? I called yesterday night...but you didn't pick up...I was going to tell you if you'd seen my favourite sweater because I couldn't find it anywhere." she said softly. She tilted her head as she thought about where she could have misplaced the sweater. Yumiko smiled, "I'm only good too you because you deserve it Ulric, and you know its true." Yumiko whispered.

Yumiko looked at him gleefully, "You will?!" she smiled and hugged her best friend tightly, "Oh thank you Ulric! If you need help ask me anytime okay?!" she told him grinning. She still had her arms linked with with Ulric as she slightly dragged him down the school path.

Urlic smiled at her and chuckled, "hey if you remember our parents use to bath us together." he said and frowned at the thought of his parents. But at least he hadn't lost her, if he had he probably wouldnt' be here today. SHe was the only thing that pulled him down to the world, she was his anchore now.

He frowned when he heard that she woudlnt' go if he didn't. They had always stuck together and they probably always would. "I promise I will work the hardest I can and you know I always keep my promises to you." he said as he looked at her and knew he would have to do good. He would try his hardest from now on for her till he couldn't so that she coudl go to the university.

He frowned when he heard her and shook his head, "sorry, I was having one of my breakdowns again. It was really bad this time." he said softly and he was now glad that she had a arm around his. He could already feel another breakdown coming on and it would even be worse then the last time. he then nodded as he looked at her, "your the only who thinks that anymore." he said and smiled slightly.

Ulric smiled as he hugged her back and was glad for the gental touch on him. "no problem and I might take you up on that help." he said as he looked at her and continued to follow her. He knew that once she let go of him he was going to breakdown and have one of his fits. She was the only thing that could keep him grounded for a long period of time.

She blushed, "Yeah well...we were small then...and we weren't...you know...developed" she said blushing again as she made hand quotes around the work "developed". She gave his arm a small squeeze, "you miss them more than anything, and I know how hard this is for you. I miss them too...they were like my parents too you know.." she whispered sadly. She rubbed her eyes and shook her head, she looked up and gave her friend a small smile.

"I knew you would!" she said giggling. "Thanks so much!" she said giggling, "Trust me, you can do this. And...remember when my grand pa died? You told me that he was watching me every night, well...your parents are watching you every night...so make them proud. You know they would have wanted you to follow your dreams Ulric" she said kindly.

Yumiko frowned, she took his arms....when ever he had a nervous break down he hurt himself. She carefully lifted his sleeves, Yumiko winced, her face full of worry. "Ulric!" she cried out, "why?!" she muttered. Her eyes were full of pain, she sighed and shook her head. Her fists clenched up as she dragged him to the nurses office, knowing him he wouldn't have even half the brain to properly cleanse it.

Yumiko looked away as they both sat in the nurses office, she didn't talk to him. Her brows were scrunched, her face was in a frown. Her mind was blank, he knew how much she hated it when some one inflicted pain on themselves or even on someone else.

Ulric nodded as he listened to her, "I know it is just hard." he said to her softly. He knew that they where looking over him but when he was at home it just felt empy, like he had nothing to live for. He hoped that he could get over this soon but it felt like it would drag on forever. He only had her and no one else, maybe he would do better if he got out of his house or something.

He looked away when she looked at his arms and knew she was dissapointed at him. He wished that he could make her proud of something but sometimes it was just really hard alone. He let her drag him to the nurses office since he knew she wouldnt' leave him alone till she did and the nurse sat him down on a table. She started to clean his arms and spoke a few things but he wasn't listening. He hardly ever listened to her anymore, only his best friend.

"I am sorry, it was really bad that time." he said softly and he woudln't look at her. He was horrible to himself and it only hurt her in the end. "I was thinking, maybe I could stay at your house for a little while. It doesn't help that i am at my house alone. I need to get out of there for a little while." he said softly and hoped taht she said yes. He needed ot be close to her just incase he got really bad.

He nurse soon said he was done and he slowly got up and off the table. Slowly he looked at Yumiko and his eyes pleaded for her to say yes. He then looked down at the floor, "and I did it because I couldn't handle everything. I couldn't handle being alone in that house, being surrouned by there memories and everything else." He said softly and didn't look at her again. He knew that she would probably have a better life if he just left her alone. He was the insane mental child, she was the popular and didn't need him and all his problems.

Yumiko had curled herself into a tiny ball on top of a chair, she had her arms wrapped tight around her legs and her chin rested on top of her knees, her lips trembled slightly. "You...are...s..so inconsiderate sometimes" Yumiko said, her voice shaking slightly. She looked at him, her amber eyes had a slightly disappointed look in them. She sighed once again as the nurse finished, she nodded a thank you towards the nurse.

She still hadn't said anything to Ulric, she looked at him. Yumiko couldn't help it, she wrapped her arms around him and hugged her best friend. "Ulric you know that you're more than a best friend! You've been there since we were little...and...and...if I lost you!" she was in the middle of her hysterics.

Yumiko was still hugging him, to think of it...he was like a brother too her...more than a brother...it was hard to describe what he was too her, all she knew was...he was damn important. She looked up, her golden eyes still brimmed with tears. She nodded, "I think it would be the best if you were staying with me" she whispered. "Ulric...you know thats not the right way...you know you can always call me when you need something...you should have talked to me instead..." she whispered, Yumiko finally broke free from the hug. Wiping her eyes she managed to give Ulric a small weak smile.

Ulric frowned when he heard her and had to agree with that statment. he was inconsiderate sometimes and sometimes he just wanted to get away from everything. When he did he usually ended up hurting himself and ending up here with her like this. He wished that he could just be the guy he had been before.

When he felt her arms around him he hugged her back and knew what she ment. He wouldn't be able to stand it if he lost her either and he would always be here for her. As he hugged her back he saw some kids stareing at them and knew that she was a werdo for haning out with him. But he oculdn't help it sometimes, he just couldn't handle everything all the time.

He then nodded and looked at her, "next time I promise I will, I will talk to you." he said as he looked at her and wished he didn't cause her so much sadness. "I also promise not to hurt myself anymore." he said as he looked at her and smiled a little bit at her. He would make sure that she didn't cry for him again, he would make her proud of him. She was important to him more then anything else now.

"You better come and talk to me..please" she whispered. She knew people were watching but she couldn't care less, Yumiko glanced up at the clock. They were already fifteen minutes late, "I..I think we should to class now" she muttered. Yumiko started to walk out of the nurses office receiving several different looks from different people...but as usual she ignored all of them.

She wiped her face again, and gave Ulric an assuring smile. "We'll make everything right again, okay?" she said tilting her head slightly as she told Ulric. Yumiko hurried to her locker, she took out all the folders she needed and put her lunch in her locker. This was going to be a long day. The only thing she looked forward too was the beach and watching the sunset go down.

Ulric nodded and followed her out of there silently. He said nothing as he followed her and kept his head down so that people wouldn't notice him. He didn't want Yumiko to be known by having the insane friend. But he was just hurting inside and no one knew it. The dead of his parents pleagued him every day and it hurt him constently, no one knew that pain in the school. Only he did.

He hten nodded when he heard her say everythign would be right again. Hopefully she was right about that and he would be his self again. He headed to his locker which ment being away from Yumiko but he had to. he slowly made his way to his locker and stuck everything in there and got his folders out. He then closed it and slowly made his way to his class that he knew he wouldn't pay alot of attention in.

Yumiko walked by Ulric and waved a final good bye to him as she headed to her history class. She sat down at her usual seat, next to the window. She looked outside, her pencil tapping against her head as she thought about the question that sat in front of her. She had to write a five page essay on it, the question was 'How has the revolution of the world affected humans?'. The question itself was pretty easy, the revolution caused differences, cost inflations, poverty and what not.

She knew what to write...but she didn't have the heart to work today. Yumiko sighed, she heard the class bell ring surprised she looked up at the clock. It was time to switch already? Yumiko could not believe it, she shrugged to herself and went to her next class..math..ack. She hated math, usually Ulric was the one who had helped her with it.

Ulric sighed as he watched her go and then headed into his math class. He was determined to do good for Yumiko, he had to to make her happy. He forced himself to write notes and try harder. The class felt like it went on forever but after a little while he heard the bell ring and he smiled at little bit. He gathered his stuff and headed out of there and hoped that he could do good in his next class before he had a break down.

He smiled as he headed into history and his teacher smiled at him. They where friends and The history teacher understood that he was having a tought time. But he nagged on him sometimes and he hoped that today wasn't one of his be annoying days. He would break down if he did and he didn't want to have to go and talk to Yumiko just yet. He sat down in his chair and started to take notes right away and tryed to work on his project.

Yumiko had seen Ulric while switching classes, she had given him the usual wave and smile. She made her way to math and worked on the problems like usual, she didn't get a question or two and decided to just skip over them. Finally...the bell rang! It was time for science, she wondered if Ulric had finished the homework. Knowing him...he had probably forgotten so she had taken half the period to copying her answer in scraggly boy hand writing.

She saw him as she walked into the science room, he was sitting in their usual seat. She took a seat beside him like always. "Here" she whispered. "Write your name on it" she said with a soft smile. Yumiko put the homework on his desk and took her own assignment out, "Hopefully he'll think that its your writing..and not mine" she whispered to Ulric.

Ulric was worryed about not going to turn in his homwork. But then Yumiko came in and saved him. He looked down at the homework and then looked at at her. "thank you, I have no idea how to repay you." he said as he looked at her and then wrote his name on it. She was truely the best friend he ever had and he never wanted to lose her. He then smiled at her, "and dont worry, you can copy my handwriting perfectly." he said in all truth.

He then waited for her to take her seat next to him. He then looked at her, "so how has your day been going os far?" he asked since he knew that she probably wasn't to happy about her first two classes, he knew her. But so far his day had been going okay, no breakdown yet. But he knew that he was going to have one soon, he could feel it.

Yumiko smiled lightly, "You don't have to repay me. You're always here for me and that enough repayment...trust me" she said with another sincere smile. "Well, it doesn't take much practice to copy your writing" she said jokingly trying to lighten the mood. "My day...its been...okay history was easy but math...god I hate math so much! Hey that reminds me..can you help me with something in math?" she asked him shyly. "How about you? How has your day been?" she asked him?

She could feel the eyes of everyone in the class on them, she rolled her eyes. "What do you have after lunch?" she whispered too him. In all honesty, she did not feel like going to class lunch. This day was not going well at all, she sighed. She only had physical education after lunch, that wasn't much of a class anyways.

Ulric smiled at her, "of course I can help you with math. I am a wiz at math and you know it." he said and for once sounded a little bit like himself. He leaned back in his chair and smiled at her, "my day has been good, so far. Nothing has triggered a breakdown and I am trying more in school. So in other words it is a great day for me." he said as he smiled at her and knew that she would be happy about that. She was always happy when he didn't have a breakdown or anything like that.

He then thought for a second and smiled at her, "I think all I have is a study hall. Why do you ask?" he asked as he looked at her and smiled. If she was thinking of skipping the rest of the day he was all in. For he had a feeling that osmething bad was going to happen today. With all the eyes that where looking at them he could feel one pair of unfriendly eyes that weren't to happy to see him talking to Yumiko.

She giggled, "I'm glad at least you still have interest in math" she said winking at him. Yumiko gave him a surprised look, "Your day...was GREAT?!" she said squeaking. "Wow! That's amazing to hear Ulric!" she gave him a big grin. She nodded when he said he had study hall, "Well all I have is gym...want to...skip the rest of the day?" she asked him tilting her head.

"I'm...really not in the mood to run around outside.." she said with a shrug. "I guess we could take our lunches to the beach early, and how about ice cream?" she asked giggling. Yumiko sighed and put her head on her desk and turned it too the side and looked up at Ulric, there was a small smile on her face. She was glad he was having a wonderful day today.

Ulric smiled when he heard her, "yeah I know that is great for me." he said and nodded at the idea of getting out of here. "sounds like a plan to me. I dont really want to be here in general so I will happily escort you to the beach at lunch." he said as he smiled at her. Being able to leave early with her would make his day even better then it already was. He smiled at her and couldn't wait to get ouf of here now.

He then nodded as he leard her gigle and loved it when she did that. "Ice cream sounds wonderful now so lets get out of here when lunch comes around." he said as he looked at her and smiled down at her. He was glad to have her as his friend and hoped that her day would get better.

She smiled again, "I knew you would escort me!" she gave him a big grin. He was like her teddy bear, big, cuddly and kind! "I wish I had thought of this idea before...I would have skipped science all together" Yumiko realized that she wasn't paying attention to the teacher...but she really could not care less. Talking to her best friend was better any day! Yumiko fidgeted with assignment sheet in front of her, she had never been the rebel kind...she wondered what it would feel like to be a rebel.

"Hey...I just had an idea Ulric! Can we...can we be rebels for the rest of the week? I mean like...showing up too classes late, wearing just what ever too class! You know what I mean right?" she said giggling. "Pissing off the teachers and what not!" Yumiko had a strange glint in her eye. Yumiko shifted slightly closer towards Ulric and put her head on his shoulder.
