Suyash watched them leave, then made sure to lock his door. At the very least, Bridgette was tolerable. That wasn't enough to keep him from wanting the whole group gone, though, and thus with a heavy sigh he attempted once again to sit down and enjoy his dinner--which was now cold.
Of course Stacy wouldn't hear of leaving...."They won't eat me. I'm important," she said shooing the two of them out of her trailer and back to their tents. "Well we tried." said Sam. "Hope we don't die."
The next day, Suyash was up early and feeling a bit better. He was sure that the humans had left already, and thus he went to work without any worries. He had a fairly simple job of arranging books in the town's small library. He liked things nice and quiet, after all.
Stacy saw her mantis from the other day and wasted no time in following him. "What is your name Mantis?" she asked pushing the microphone in his face, From behind her Bridgette gave him a sympathetic look. "I'm so sorry, " she mouthed.
"My name is Suyash and I would rather you leave me alone," Suyash grumbled. So much for having peace and quiet...
"It seems that Mantises are an unfriendly species by nature. " said Stacy smiling at the camera. "They are unpleasant and unwelcoming and their culture not particularly rich."
Suyash glared at her. "Who can be pleasant around such an obnoxious creature?" he hissed. "And I will have you know, our culture is beautiful! At least we know how to mind our own business!"
Stacy motioned for Bridgette to cut. "I can get way more obnoxious than this, but if you give me an interview and some info about your culture then maybe I'll leave you alone." she leaned forward and grinned at Sayush, daring him to take her up on her challenge.
"I would rather just eat you," grumbled Suyash, "especially if it is somehow possible for you to be more obnoxious--and if I don't, then I am sure someone will."
Stacy flipped her hair back. "I'm stronger than I look, I carry a weapon every where I go and if anyone touches me I'll put a bullet in their face, so there!"
Bridgette chuckled, the camera was still rolling and she'd just caught a nice bit of film....it could be handy later.... |
Suyash shook his head in exasperation and left his desk to go and put away a small stack of books. "What do you even want to know?" he asked after a moment.
"Everything, Your habits, your diet, what you do for a living, your religion and that's just a small part of it all." said Stacy,
Suyash snorted. "One question at a time--and politely, if you don't mind," he answered, wishing he'd had more books to alphabetize just to keep himself from having to face her.
"Ok then firstly, what is your religion?" asked Stacy. She was already rehearsing in her mind what she would say on screen and if he summary didn't fit it could be edited.
"I haven't got one," said Suyash. Like humans, beliefs among mantises differed between individuals. Suyash himself had never taken an interest in religion, and now that he was being questioned by this human, he was glad of it.
Stacy nodded, that worked, mantises held no beliefs in a higher power as such a concept was beyond them...she could work something out of that. "And what is your hobby?"
"I tend an herb garden," Suyash replied shortly, walking past her to go and sit at his desk again. Surely there couldn't be too many questions left; then he could be left alone...
Boring...no need to say mantises have hobbies.... "What is your favorite food?" asked Stacy.
"I happen to be very fond of cat," murmured Suyash. "I like it with a lot of spice..."
Stacy made a face...Mantises are not above eating the pets of human beings...she made a mental note. "Ok what is your favorite form of entertainment?" she asked,
"I like music," said Suyash. He sat very still, waiting as patiently as he could for her to finish questioning him and leave.
"What kind of music do you like best?" asked Stacy.
"I like more traditional music, string instruments..." One of Suyash's antennae twitched. Someone was coming toward the shop. He was grateful for the potential distraction.
Mantises have not moved towards a modern lifestyle as they are not very much evolved inspite of their forms. "I think that's enough for now, but I'll be filming you later." said Stacy, "Thanks for your time."
A female mantis--taller and more broad than Suyash--entered the library and gave Stacy a look as she passed. "What is that doing here?" she whispered.
Suyash could only shrug and shake his head. He certainly hoped Stacy would be gone soon. |
