“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.” The land of Arania has been under the rule of a corrupt government for generations. Few knew what really happened behind the closed doors of the government facilities, but for those few it was a knowledge that ate them up from the inside out. And so the resistance began. Xenzales(zen-zahl-ays) they were called, a name commonly given to traitors of the state but they wore the name proudly. The resistance formed, free of social barriers but not of social oppression. Inclusive but excluded they carried out their attacks on the government. Peace was not their goal, but freedom was and they understood the sacrifice that was the cost of freedom. The Xenzales rose, and in what they called the Days of Hope, fought bravely in the face of a much greater opponent. “In all things it is better to hope than to despair.” In this world there is more than just the race of fragile humans. There are those who wield magic, those with powers of the mind, those with forms of animals and those with the blessings of the universe. Please use the definitions below as a reference or guide to these incredible beings and other aspects of this strange world. Ryn pulled out his sword and stabbed it into the ground near the campfire. Faction Nine of the Xenzales was under his command but now they'd lost communication with his commanding officer, which meant nothing good. In fact, it was all very bad news. A messenger unable to get to a Faction meant the Facility was blocking all paths, whether they realized it or not. Either that or the messenger was intercepted meaning the information was compromised and any orders would be further delayed. Ryn was too restless to keep sitting around camp. The fire smoldered and smoke still rose, although no one would think anything of it seeing as they were in the crator of a volcano that smoked often, but never blew it's top. "Lei, knock it off." He spoke sharply. Lei had been scouting for him, but the mysterious girl usually tried to sneak back into camp unnoticed for practice, but Ryn wasn't in the mood. Lei dropped from the tree branch she'd been stealthily moving along. Her face was in a bit of a frown as if her fun had been ruined. She patted the dust off, then stood up straight and placed her arms across her chest so that her hands rested on the opposite shoulders, her arms forming an 'X'. It was customary to speak to a higher ranking officer about official matters in this stature, although it was a formality often forgone. Lei had been added to Faction Nine because she wouldn't stop following Ryn, and like a lost puppy that turns out to be a prize hunting beagle, she provided to be useful. Her powers made her a good scout, and her training made her an invisible one. "Reporting, sir. The surrounding area is completely quiet. In fact, it seems unnaturally quiet and a quiet made by the absence of many animals as well." Lei unfolded her arms and sat on a stump next to the fire. "The lava energies are quiet too." She added, notably calm. |
Sniffing the air, the orange eyed male continued on his way. "Oh Kiki," he said with a sing-song rhythm to his tone, "where art th... oh there you are!" Crawling on all four over to the stuffed cat, which looked a lot like a fox, Melik giggled his gay little laugh.
With his nose still dragging across the ground, Melik's nose bumped into a tree. "OWWWWW!" Howling in pain, the rusty haired male rose to his feet and jumped around like the spazz he was. Holding his now bleeding nose, he stumbled down a hill. As his speed increased due to his kicking and flailing (and sheer luck of not crashing into another tree), he found himself airborne. Eyes widening, he shirked as his hands wrapped around the cat figure. "Kiki, this is it. This is our final adventu-oof!" A crash landed was predicted, but, to his surprise (and might we add luck), he collided with a softer substance. "I LIVE!" Squeeing with pure joy, he rolled off of the object the absorbed his fall. His left eye twitched as he looked over at the blonde he collided with. "Oops," was all he was able to stammer out. |
The campsite sounded louder than when Amaki had left it and for a moment her pace quickened; that is, until she heard the commotion and realized that the group wasn't under attack. Sighing, the girl had a feeling she knew who the culprit was too. With her left hand on her hip, she lifted her right to massage her forehead lightly; she had a feeling she was going to be in for a headache.
Her hand then instinctively went to her eye patch, though she knew it was there, she just had to verify it. Looking towards the horizon she noted that she had a little while until dawn yet, so she was safe without her goggles. Her footfalls, though as light as they were, still tapped along the volcanic crust. She wasn't loud, she rarely ever was, but the sound could have been heard to those that were paying attention. Nearing the camp, the fire cause the older woman to wince a little bit before indeed finding the red haired 'boy' as she called him, giving Ryn an apologetic look. "How do you expect us to survive if you keep falling on us?" She asked in a bored tone as she walked over to the child-like male; grabbing him by the collar of his shirt she then lifted him to his feet. Her statement was merely a guess seeing as she had been the victim last time. Her exposed blue eye then fell onto Ryn as she said, "No action along the eastern rim, nor the southern. Wherever the forces are they're either hidden." With a shrug she then added, "Either that or we have a sloppy messenger." |
"D'awww. Amaki-ka-ka is a poop." Crossing his arms over his chest, he continued to act more like a child. The feet stopping, chest crossing, pouting lip, and the watering eyes, they were just a handful of Melik's many "great" features. Had someone actually known his age, they would have been appalled at his behavior. Not only was he 23, but he was also the oldest member of the current troop. It was a good thing he was so darn cute, or else they group might not tolerate his nonsense. Then again, did they really have a choice? After all, he was on their side, and, unknowingly, his powers would prove to be beneficial to the team.
Cocking his head, Melik wandered over to Lei. She, or at least Melik believed, would be the nicer one of the bunch. She seemed to have that childish nature within, unlike the other two grumpy members who were huddled around. Amaki posing as the greater of the two evils. Ryn, the man he just flatted, seemed to have a calmer demeanor, but only because he was accustomed to Lei's exotic routine. Sure enough, Melik lost interest in the whole "watching" and "scouting" endeavor. No, that was too simple a task for him (or perhaps it was too easy to get distracted for him). Either way, Melik shrugged as his boredom set in. Thankfully, being a witty fellow with a wild imagination, he was act to hatch himself a new idea to keep him out of trouble (as if that were possible). "Amaki-ka-ka, why won't you let me brain your hair?" His eyes widened as he looked up at her with awe. "I'm telling you, I'm really good at... oh, pretty!" Eyes sparkling, Melik blushed when a blue-winged butterfly floated past him. "Amaki-ka-ka, if you were a bug, you'd be that butterfly." |
Ryn was suddenly hit from behind, although from the shout that happened a split second before, he knew it was just Melik. "Can we be done with the silliness for today? And Melik, be quieter. We can't risk being found." Ryn lifted himself off the ground and patted the dirt away. "You're telling me we simply have a messenger gone missing? There is nothing unusual going on?" Ryn was not convinced. He crossed his arms and started into the coals that was last night's fire. "That Messenger was supposed to be our order to return to headquarters. But now we don't have it and we risk being caught, and I don't have the manpower to send a messenger to headquarters. Our faction is the smallest, most bizarre as it is. Are we sure there isn't some holiday we're forgetting about?" Lei stifled a giggle as Melik landed on their Faction Leader, Ryn. She watched Melik intently, his antics amused her. Amaki didn't have as much patience for Melik though. She twirled her own long purple hair that was tied back in a ponytail. "Here Melik, you can braid my hair if you want." She said while untying her hair. It seemed silly to do, but she knew Ryn would be grateful because it would keep Melik busy for at least a little while. "Where are the twins? Have they come back yet?" Lei asked, tilting her head a little. |
"I win again!" Lexi said to her brother, a succesful grin now spread across her face. "Aww, no fair! You cheated! REMATCH!" Kyle said angerily, who had now lost a thumbwar they'd been doing for the 7th time. "No, we were suppose to back with the others by now. C'mon!" She reminded her twin. "Pleeease, one more time? It'll be really quick!" Kyle begged. "Fine, one last match, but then we go. We don't want to get in trouble." Kyle quickly nodded.
Lexi and Kyle then continued to the group, Lexi quickly beating Kyle. They both stopped when they reached the others. "Sorry it took us forever. Kyle was being a bit stubborn." Lexi explained nervously. Kyle growled, "It's not my fault your a cheater!!!" He complained, before the siblings were screaming and yelling at each other as they always did. |
Amaki pursed her lips slightly; for being a year younger than her Ryn certainly had things together, though it irritated her that he seemed to hold her with such little regard. "According to what I have read, there has never been a holiday on this date, so if there is then it is a new one. What would a holiday do with dispatching a messenger anyway? If we are needed back then the messenger would be sent regardless."
The girl was trying her best to ignore the rust-haired male, he definitely was not the mature one of the group that was for sure. Her eyes darted to the insect that was in question before falling to the child-like male. He really was a lost cause it seemed; it made her wonder if he actually completed his patrol or not. When Lei jumped in at Melik's request the blue haired female was relieved. Hopefully that meant he would leave her alone for a little while. There was a commotion coming from the other end of camp shortly after the assassin had asked about the twins. With how much noise they were making and the lack of detail to the mission, Amaki settled on the thought that, "Either they weren't really looking, or they didn't find anything." She then rubbed her eye patch as the noise of the group was starting to bug her. She had been much better on her own, but there were some in the group that could do what she could not. Shifting her weight to the other foot her blue eye fell upon Ryn once again. "If the messenger was truly intercepted then scouts are going to be coming for us, who knows what that will be though. So either we wait for them or we move. Either way we aren't guaranteed that we are going to live. So what's the plan?" Of course Amaki had been running plans through her head since the issue arose, but she was not the leader therefore she did not have the authority to decide. |
Kyle and Lexi stopped their bickering, listening to the conversation as if they had a clue what was being talked about at the moment. Kyle and Lexi never really had a clue about anything that went on with the place, and if they did it'd be very rare. Lexi's eyes widened as she heard something about scouts coming for them.
"Oh, pick me, pick me!!" She called out, now jumping up and down. "I say we take a gun, and shoot everyone, and then we win. Guns always win, ya know." She suggested, with a smile. Kyle listened to her sisters idea, and nodded, obviously approving of the idea. "Oh! And we could use a flame thrower!!! We could burn things! Wouldn't that be soo cool! I once heard of these people who can eat, and spit out fire. Maybe we could do that!" He said, now both Lexi and Kyle excited at their outrageous ideas. |
Ryn chuckled lightly at one of the twin's suggestion. "Guns are nice, but hard to come by." He commented before turning back to Amaki. "I don't think headquarters would've been blind enough to give away a location within the message however if the messenger had a loose tongue we're in trouble. They'd send more than scouts after us too. I dislike being on the defensive though. It's almost morning, which means if we're going to move we need to do it fast, or get ready for a fight." "No, no, no, no, we're down three faction members since the last fight. We'd do better to hide the equipment and hide ourselves until they're certain we're no longer here if we ever were." Lei interjected. Ryn looked at Lei with a raised eyebrow. There's no way we can hide with Melik and the Twins, at least not within earshot. Amaki, any ideas?" Lei rolled her eyes and waved at the twins. Lei stifled a giggle as Melik landed on their Faction Leader, Ryn. |
Amaki had to let out a slow breath of air to keep herself calm from the twin's comments. She assured herself that if they listened to them they were sure to be killed. She thought about it though; and while Ryn was right, headquarter wouldn't be that blind, she did not know the messenger so therefore she did not trust them. Lei was even being logical about all of this, which surprised the girl slightly.
To say that the blue haired girl was relieved that Ryn had asked for her opinion on something would be an understatement. Her mind went through her venture beyond the volcano as quickly as it could, tracing over every detail that she could recall. There was one thing of great importance that she had found during her little trip. "Not far from here there is a cave. It is nestled along the cliff side and hidden among the trees. There was a cool breeze and trickling sounds coming from within though I heard no voices, and from as far as I ventured in I did not see anyone." She had found the cave complete on a whim too. Amaki thought she had been hearing things; a breeze and water to be exact, so she followed it. The cave seemed, well, as hospitable as as cave could be so she figured she could report it if the information was ever needed. |
Rose ran through the woods scenting the air. She loved her fox form though it did have a big flaw. She had to have clothes stashed everywhere. This form was too small to carry clothes with her, and it would slow her down too much. Her speed was her greatest strength. The silly humans had a problem with naked women running around. She finally could scent humans and fire. She stopped and looked around trying to see where she had left her things. Finally she put her nose down and sented for the cloth. Her eyesight was not the best in this form. She found her way to her things and shifted her form. She quickly put on her wrap dress. She could shift while wearing this and still be able to get free. She had tried other tighter clothing but it was much more difficult. She had gotten used to shoes though. As soon as the brown dress was tied she straightend it so it rested perfectly just above her knees. She slipped on her boots and tied up her hair then walked towards the camp.
|
Ryn nodded as he heard what Amaki had to say. He looked around at the group, then pulled his sword out of the ground and wiped the blade on his pants before sheathing it. "We don't have much time. Start packing things up. If it's heavy or unnecessary, bury it in the woods. Amaki, Lei, grab what you need and go to the cave. Lei can see what the human eye cannot. The rest of us will pack up camp and erase all signs that we were here recently and hopefully we'll only be a half hour behind. If the cave does not work out, we continue down the mountain and go west. Without orders, the farther from the Facility we are, the better. Tents and cots come with us, any other furnitue, bury it." Upon hearing Ryn's orders, Lei picked herself up and went to one of the tents and grabbed her pack. She was always ready to go, but that had simply been part of her training. Her dark purple eyes surveyed the tent for anything else she might need. She wondered if Ryn would be able to handle Melik and the Twins by himself, but remembered how calm of a person he was. It wasn't her job to take down the tent or pack anything else. She opened the flap of the tent and slipped back outside and waited for Amaki. |
((O.o Who is Rose? A new character or was there no profile sent? *doesn't want to leave a new person out* >.<))
Amaki nodded curtly before looking over to where Lei once was, though she had disappeared into her tent. "We will get there and I will run a perimeter check while Lei searches inside. If we run into any trouble I will send her to notify you." The girl said before turning and walking towards her own small tent; inside there was a neatly packed bag, the sleeping bag already rolled and tied to the bottom. The blue haired girl never liked staying in one place, heck, it was a miracle that she had been with this group so long as to get to know them a little bit. Emerging back into the still cool, though warming air her exposed eye fell onto the small assassin girl before looking back towards the blond. "Keep them safe," she told him, though it was really a redundant statement. "If you run into any trouble, do not hesitate to come get us." She then turned and began walking, waving Lei to follow her. Looking back once more as she was walking, her eye fell onto each member that was staying behind as she said, "All of you stay safe." |
The twins listened closely to Ryn's orders. They both nodded, before heading to one of the tents. Lexi knelt down, placing anything that was hers or her brothers in a brown pouch that she always wore around her waist.
"Aw, sis, this is going to take to long," Kyle complained, "Why don't we just duplicate ourselves, yah know. It'd go by so much faster." Lexi didn't protest, and decided to go along with, even if they weren't suppose to be using their powers at the moment. "But let's start small, don't want Ryn to see." Lexi whispered, before they duplicated them selves. Lexi looked at the other thems that stood infront of them, making sure that they did everything right. She nodded in approvement, before the four went to work. |
((Rose sent me a profile but I accidently deleted it along with 50 'you've been outbid' messages, Rose, please resend it! ^.^;; I'm really sorry.))
Ryn kicked dirt over the smoldering coals and walked to his tent. He returned Amaki's concern for their safety with a small smile "You and Lei stay safe too. Don't forget to trust her, she might surprise you." He added quietly. He then walked into his tent, folded his cot and attached it to his already packed backpack. He threw it out of the tent and within five minutes the tent was flat and folded on the ground. He noticed there seemed to be more twins than normal but actually didn't mind because they were being very helpful. Lei glanced around the camp, before turning to follow Amaki away. As she walked, she retied her long purple hair although a few strands still managed to escape. Her short stature made it so she had to walk faster and she was tempted to just swing like a monkey through the trees but figured it would be better if she stayed on the ground. She sighed, Amaki was a very quiet person and not very tolerant of banter or chat so it was sometimes hard to learn about her. Lei was positive Amaki wouldn't tolerate a Mind Connection but she didn't talk either. Lei twisted her lips back and forth in thought. She remembered back to the first time she met Ryn. Ironically it was in a bar. He was meeting someone in secrecy, but she couldn't tell who. She recalled making eye-contact with Ryn before he left the bar and that was all she needed... Lei came back to reality. She shook her head a little as a headache came on. "Something... isn't right..." She said quietly. |
((Oooooh, ok XD))
Amaki stopped suddenly, saying something wasn't right in a time like this was all that it took. It was all that it usually ever took anyway. "What do you mean?" She asked, her voice dipping down to a lower and quieter tone than usual. She tried to peel her ears more in order to listen to their surroundings, but she only caught the rustling of the leaves as the dawn wind blew through their branches. She was much more alert now than she had been, her worry drifting more towards the others. "Are the others alright?" Ryn's advice played through her mind, though he didn't have to tell her to trust the shorter girl. The void elementalist always expected those she was working with to be able to handle their own load; those that could manage that were the current survivors. Even though Lei and Melik could act silly, as well as the twins, Amaki knew that they were decent fighters, well capable of taking care of themselves. The two were about half way to the cave when Lei had spoken up; if they were needed back with the group then they would be fine to head back. If there was a group on their way towards them, if just one they would be fine, she was sure of it. Plans were playing out in the woman's mind as she made her multiple escapes. Depending on the size of the group would determine her plan, but until she had more information, that was all she had. |
Rose walked into the camp and noticed everyone was packing up. She looked around trying to figure out what was going on. If they were moving at least she didn't have to pack up a tent or much stuff. She had a couple of bags of stuff but they were always packed and weren't really things she couldn't leave behind. They were just things she had collected and liked. Mostly shiney things and colorful things since she liked how pretty they were. She didn't sleep in a tent because they made her feel trapped. "What's going on?"
|
Ryn turned quickly but relaxed when he saw Rose. "I was wondering when you'd get back. We're moving to a cave off the side of the mountain. The messenger is two days late and our Faction is compromised." He spoke quickly. "Help us take down Lei and Amaki's tents, they're scouting ahead to make sure the way is clear." Ryn motioned to one tent while he went to Amaki's tent and began folding it up.
Lei had also stopped and she grabbed her dagger and pulled it out. There was an awful bitter taste in her mouth and her head pounded. She spat, trying to relieve her mouth of the bitter taste. "It's magic. Black magic. The air is saturated with it." Lei coughed, "We need to get to the cave, I'm completely useless against black magic." Her eyes started tearing and burning. |
Rose nodded at Ryn before running over to the tent he hand motioned at. She looked it over carefully. She had taken down tents a few times but it was still complicated for her. It wasn't her fault that her parents had liked to run as foxes more then humans. Finally she started pulling the tent down and packing it up. I wasn't that late. Go for a little run and people complain. At the same time Lei spoke she scented the air. It was bitter and it made her sneeze. It was so thick that she couldn't smell if there was anyone near. "I'm done here."
|
Rather than waiting for whatever Lei was sensing to be upon them, Amaki rested her right hand on the girl's back as her left gripped the hilt of one of her blades. "It is not much further from here. We are about half way there. What can you tell me about what you are feeling?" With her hand rested carefully on the girl's back, she began leading them towards the cave once again, though this time in a quicker manner. Amaki wasn't a cold person, well, she was, but she was more cautious. She knew what happened in her past and she didn't want people to get close to her just to lose them again; that was why she came off so cruel and quiet most of the time.
((Lei and Amaki had left the main part of the group; they aren't near Ryn and the others at the moment ^^;; )) |
((sorry fixed it, I knew that but for some reason I still responded. Guess I need to go to bed.))
|
Ryn finished folding up the tents and tying them to his pack. He then grabbed a handful of items that were not as important and went into the woods to hide them. When he came back, Rose seemed to be done. "Rose, did you see anything strange while you were out?"
Lei coughed again. "I'm like a magnet to black magic, but it acts as a poison to me. This may be why the forest has been so quiet. Animals don't tend to venture near black magic." Lei gripped her dagger fiercely as she pushed through the bramble. She spat again, her saliva black and bitter. She slipped into her mindsight and searched in all directions. "The magician doesn't seem to be around but this magic was done with skill. It's like a web covering the middle of the mountain." Lei coughed again but her legs never missed a beat. She could tell the magic was getting less intense, but it was still there. ((It's fine, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. I've made some big boo-boo's in my RP history but oh well. ^.^)) |
Rose had gone over to her own bags and swung them over her shoulder, and the tent went on her back. She listened to Ryn's question then thought about it. At the time she hadn't noticed anything but thinking about it know she could think of something. "I didn't smell anyone. There were old traces of animals but nothing current. The animals have left this area. There were no sounds of animals either. I didn't smell any humans either till I got back to our camp. I did smell something kind of bitter though. I don't know what it was. I've never scented anything like it before."
|
((Is okie dokie, I just didn't know if you realized it ^^))
Amaki's brows furrowed together as the forest began giving way to a clearing that led to a cliff. "Do you know if the camp is in danger of detection?" She asked, her concern once again going to the group. Veering off to the side a little bit, the girl led them dangerously close to the cliff side. There were trees growing thickly once again, like the forest was starting up, but melding into the cliff. Hidden amongst them was the side of the cave; the path to the opening only allowing one person to walk at a time it was so thin. The blue haired girl urged the younger one forward as she looked behind her; they weren't being followed as of yet. "Once we can verify we are safe here, we can retrieve the others." |
