Signe shifted a little as Tier began to wake with everyone else, his tail beating against her leg. She grumbled, an arm appearing from beneath her cocoon of blankets and shoving the animal a little. There was a mutter that could have been "stop it" but it was hard to tell. Either way the loyal hound took the hint and jumped off the couch, making his way to the kitchen for his breakfast.
Thor raised an eyebrow to his brother then looked to the couch to see that Signe was still sleeping. He nodded his understanding and walked into the kitchen to see what was being cooked. He stood over Cass' shoulder, looking into the pot. "What are you making?" He asked, his voice quiet. |
Loki took his time getting up, stretching out and relaxing for a little bit before he went in search of food. He didn't need food, but it was nice.
"Beef stew," Cass replied quietly, glancing back at him once. "It won't be ready for a couple more hours." She shrugged, unconcerned, and stirred the contents again. |
Thor nodded, satisfied with that answer. He knew of stew and it was usually very good. But that was back in Asgard. He had no way of knowing what anything would taste like here. But if their alcohol was good then surely their food would have to be as well.
"So you are Cass, correct? You and Signe are...sisters?" He asked, curious about what the relationship between the two was. They certainly acted like sisters, but they didn't appear anything alike. Then again, neither did he and Loki. It took twenty more minutes of she small noises from everyone moving around to finally stir Signe from her slumber. She rose slowly, keeping the blanket wrapped around her like a cloak. She shuffled into the kitchen, her eyes barely open, working on autopilot. An arm appeared from the layers of blanket to a mug from the cabinet and start the coffee maker, even as her head bobbled to the side as sleep tried to take her again. |
Cass already had coffee in the pot for her, though she didn't have the mug out. She just steered Signe to the coffee, putting out milk and sugar for her too.
"Not exactly," she replied carefully, looking back down at the stew and stirring it a few times. "We're not related." "And yet you live together?" Loki raised an eyebrow at her, watching Signe zombie around. That was kind of funny, actually. "She took me in," was what Cass settled on saying after a few moments of silence. Hopefully they'd leave it at that. |
Signe blinked sleepily at the coffee pot for a minute before filling her mug. A little sugar was added with a dash of milk before taking a sip. Instantly there was a change in her and she shuddered a little. Turning she started to make her way out of the kitchen, coffee mug clutched in her hands like it was a lifeline.
"Same way I took you two." She muttered as she squeezed between them. "Now out so she can cook." Thor raised a curious eyebrow as he watched Signe shuffle passed them into the kitchen. She hardly seemed to be awake, but she was moving, so he guessed that she had to be. But it was amusing to watch her move around on autopilot. He turned his attention back to Cass. He wondered, briefly, if they were lovers. But they slept in separate rooms, had separate cars, and had no terms of endearment that humans seemed to be so fond of. Whatever their relationship neither wanted to talk about it, as Signe was trying to push him out of the kitchen with her head. "Do you just make a habit of taking in others who have no where else to go?" He asked, only partially joking. "Yup." Was Signe's only reply before she shuffled over to the couch, sitting down and taking another sip of coffee. |
Cass rolled her eyes at him and went back to her cooking, leaving things alone to simmer and reduce for a while. She glanced back at Signe and made sure Tier was fed before she looked at the two gods.
"There's extra coffee, if you would like some, or we have some cereal I believe," she said courteously. "I'm fine," Loki said, politely declining and moving out of the kitchen to give her room to work. He watched Tier for a moment before he made up his inflatable bed, pushing it upright against a wall so it wasn't taking up so much room. The area was cramped enough as it was. |
"And waffles." Signe called, her voice still heavy with sleep. She took a long swallow of her coffee then, finishing the rest of the mug. Almost instantly her eyes seemed brighter, her body more responsive to the world around it. Slowly, Signe was starting to wake up.
Thor followed the other two into the living room, taking a seat at the other end of the couch from Signe. He watched as the dog jumped up between them, sniffing him briefly before slinking over to his mistress and resting in her lap. Whereas the woman had only been moving on autopilot before she seemed more alert now. He wondered what it was that she was drinking. "Finally back in the land of the living?" |
Cass glanced at Thor before summarily dismissing him. Again. "You want waffles, Signe?" she called, already starting to get the necessary ingredients out. She didn't ask either of the others, though. She wasn't used to guests, and Thor was starting to rub her the wrong way.
Loki picked up on tha first and snickered a little, tempted to tease his brother. But he didn't quite dare, instead just sitting quietly and watching the others. It was far too amusing to disregard. |
Signe's eyes cut over to Thor briefly, still not awake enough for a glare but she was working on it. She held her stare for only a moment before looking away. "Not a morning person." She explained with a shrug before pushing herself to her feet, leaving her blanket behind, and walking into the kitchen. "Waffles sound delicious." She said to Cass, starting to pull down plates for all of them.
Thor only grinned at Signe, hoping his natural charms would smooth things over. But she only stood and walked away, which left the god perplexed. Normally all he had to do was smile and say a few sweet words and he had the women of Asgard eating out of his hand. But these two were different and almost completely ignored him except to glare or threaten him. Looking over at his brother he spotted a familiar expression. "Don't you dare, Loki." He said in warning. |
Cass nodded and got down the waffle pan, making the batter quickly and easily. She figured she must have had some cooking experience before she'd lost her memory, since she was so comfortable in the kitchen. But she didn't say anything, just setting up the first one to cook and getting out syrup.
Loki smirked but didn't say anything. He could be smart on occasion. Besides, he didn't much feel like fighting Thor right now. "Smells good," he commented to Cass with his own smile. Cass blinked. She thought that was the first compliment she'd gotten from Loki. "Thanks." She made a mental note that Loki would get the first waffle after Signe. Since Signe could eat two when she was hungry. |
Signe had to pause while setting out everything to refill her cup of coffee. She was beyond tired and didn't like being awake so early, even if fresh waffles were involved. She drank half of the mug before going back to her work, making sure they had enough forks and things.
"We're going to have to go shopping later." She said, mostly to Cass. "They can't stay in those clothes forever." Thor sniffed the air, smiling. He wasn't used to the smell, but it was nice, homey, comfortable. Slowly he stood and walked to the edge of the kitchen, watching the girls work. He noticed Cass reaching for something on a higher shelf and stepped behind her, grabbing it easily and handing it down to her with a small, but honest smile. "Can I help you with anything?" He asked. |
"Yeah, I know. Well, that shouldn't be too bad, as long as there aren't many people around." Cass grimaced.
She blinked, however, when Thor handed her the big plate she'd been looking for easily. "Um. I don't think so. Thanks." She smiled a little at him and slipped back over to the waffle maker, pulling the first one out before it could burn and putting it on a plate. "There you go, Signe. I'll have another couple done in just a minute for you two." Loki watched Signe zombie around the kitchen. She really wasn't a morning person, apparently. As proven when she dropped a butter knife. Snatching it before it could hit the ground, Loki handed it back to Signe with a nod. The little apartment was smelling really good, with the mixture of coffee and waffles. He was still rather surprised that humans could do something this nice. |
Signe blinked and took the knife from him. For a moment she forgot that he was a god and was overly surprised by his sudden movement. "Oh. Thanks." She said slowly turning back to the cabinet that had the food. She grinned happily as she was presented with the waffle.
"Thank you." She said with a happy grin before taking her plate to the couch. Sitting down happily she began to eat her breakfast. Thor nodded a little, moving out of her way. He stood back and waited, looking on with a smile at the sheer happiness on Signe's face when she got her food. Quietly he chuckled to himself, amused at how happy something as simple as a piece of food could make her. Humans could be so adorable sometimes. |
Cass made two more waffles and handed them over to Loki and Thor. "There. You usually put butter and syrup on them, in case you weren't watching Signe." She made sure they weren't about to stab each other and get blood in her kitchen before she went back making waffles. Signe would probably want at least one more, and Thor looked like he could eat a lot if he put his mind to it.
Loki followed her instructions, cutting off a bite from one and blinking. He hadn't tasted anything like this on Asgard. It was different, and still warm, and he kind of liked it. "Thank you," he said politely before returning to polishing off his waffle. Just because he was little didn't mean he couldn't eat almost as much as Thor. |
It took Signe only a few minutes to have her plate completely cleaned. She licked her lips of the excess syrup before standing and walking back into the kitchen. She hit Cass with her hips, scooting her friend out of the way. "You eat." She said as she took over mixing more batter for waffles.
Thor took the final waffle with a smile of thanks and a bob of his head. He took a seat by his brother, taking an experimental bite before his eyes widened in wonder. This....was one of the tastiest things he had ever had. It was delicious! Beer and breakfast. These were two things that humans seemed to have perfected since his last visit. "This is delicious. Thank you Lady Cass." He said in between taking bites of food. He was considerate enough not to try to speak with his mouth full. |
Cass snorted when she was bopped out of the way, but she took her own plate and sat on the couch to eat, not quite finishing the whole waffle. She fed the last few bits to Tier, making sure Signe wasn't looking when she did.
"My pleasure," she replied to Thor, going into the kitchen again to put her dish in the sink. As soon as everyone was done, she'd get the dishes washed. Loki finished off his waffles as well, licking his lips clean. Those were amazing. He'd have to figure out how she'd done it so that he could find someone to make them back in Asgard. Everyone would love them. Not that he really cared about that part, he just wanted more waffles. |
Signe noticed how quickly the two gods were eating and was quick to make a few more, putting one to the side for herself to enjoy later. When Cass finished with her one she just sighed and shook her head. "Cass this is why you are only skin and bones. You don't eat nearly enough!" She lightly scolded as she set two new waffles in front of each god. "I can't help but wonder if you were a super model or something. Even Tier eats less than you do." She scoffed as she sat down with the final waffle. Quickly she grabbed the syrup before either of them could finish it off.
Thor was wise enough to keep his mouth shut on this new subject. He had learned long ago never to voice his opinion when a woman's size was brought up because nothing he said was ever right. Instead he turned his attention to the food that had been placed in front of him. He said his quick thanks before digging in. |
Cass rolled her eyes, though she was amused. "If I'd been a super model, someone would come looking for me and I wouldn't be quite so muscled as I am. I could have given you a good brawl if it had come to that, remember."
She glanced over at the other two and noticed that they were, probably wisely, keeping silent. So she just chuckled and started to wash the dishes. Loki blinked. he hadn't expected a human, especially not a female, to be quite so logical. But she made sense. Which was more than he could say for his brother half the time. |
"Yes, because I make a point of fighting hapless girls who show up on my doorstep with amnesia." Signe said with a roll of her eyes and a playful smirk as she worked on the last half of her waffle. She noticed Thor give her a half hearted glare for beating him to the syrup and she just smiled before handing it over to him. "Besides Cass," She continued once she had swallowed her next mouthful. "it hasn't been two months yet. There's still plenty of time."
Thor smiled and took the syrup with a thanks before going back to his breakfast, looking back and forth between the two women as they talked. His brow raised in confusion at the way they spoke. It took him a moment and he looked over at Cass with wide, disbelieving eyes, the smallest of frowns pulling down his normally happy face. "You don't know who you are?" |
Cass shrugged and leaned back against the counter. "Yeah, I have no idea. I woke up in the middle of the street and stumbled into her." She noded to Signe. "I had my purse on me, and that was it."
"That does not sound pleasant," Loki said quietly. He couldn't imagine waking up and not knowing who he was. Of course, it was a little more dangerous for a god to not know who he was and what his powers were than for a human. |
"Only thing her purse had was make-up, some change, and a folded up name tag that said 'Hi my name is Cass'. It was really handy, that. I started asking around about local conventions and meetings but no one had gone missing, nor from any of the local hospitals. So we are at a loss. I still keep an eye out for missing persons reports but things have worked out pretty well." Signe explained with a shrug as if this were the most natural thing in the world. But, given her current company, it sort of was.
"No, it doesn't." Thor said, a new found determination settling in his features. While there really wasn't much he could do while he was stuck here on Earth, he was determined to help her find out more about herself. Maybe if she could find something familiar it would help her remember. |
Cass just shrugged. She was over it. She didn't much care anymore. She'd figure it out.
"I'm not all that concerned. If no one's come looking for me or put out any missing persons reports then what kind of life did I even have?" She had a point there. That was... kind of sad, actually. But he didn't comment. He just stayed quiet, finishing up his waffle and letting Cass take his plate to wash. |
Signe frowned. She hated it when Cass talked like that but had quickly learned that there was no reasoning with her when her mind had been made up. The older girl knew how important family was from her own experience of not having one and she was determined to reunite her new best friend with what she was missing.
Looking up at the thunder god she just shook her head, hoping that her expression properly conveyed that the subject needed to be dropped. If not she was certain a coffee cup to the head would. But, being as great a distraction as he was, Tier chose that time to start barking at the door, pawing at it pitifully and looking back at her with the saddest eyes he could muster. "Ugh, dog. Alright, alright. Let me get some clothes on." She sighed as she pushed up from the table. Thor had opened his mouth to argue with her about how important she had to be to someone, but he caught the look that was being cast at him from across the table. He caught Signe's eyes and understood that this was a trail that she had been down before to no avail. The god frowned but kept his silence, rising and taking his plate to the kitchen. He turned when he heard Tier barking and snickered as Signe swept off in only partial annoyance. |
Cass finished washing the dishes contentedly, humming to herself as she set everything out to dry. Then she looked back at Tier and chuckled, shaking her head. She'd go with Signe, but she figured someone needed to stay and take care of the two gods.
"Anything you need me to do?" she called after Signe, watching her vanish into her room. Loki watched the two with some interest. They were rather interesting, for humans. He'd admit that much. They certainly hadn't been what he'd expected. |
"Not really." Signe said as she came back out of her room, dressed in jeans and a light, long sleeve shirt. "We have to go get them clothes later so if you want to shower or anything go ahead. Or let them shower. Or something." She said with a shrug as she grabbed the leash from the post next to the door. Tier was instantly jumping and running around in circles, stub tail wagging frantically. "Okay okay okay! We're going we're going! Don't wet on the carpet!" She said as she opened the door, practically grabbing onto the frame so she wasn't dragged down the stairs.
"I'll be back!" She called before shutting the door and running after her dog. Thor blinked after Signe as she disappeared out the door, being pulled by her dog. The woman cared for her animal as thought it was her child. He wondered if that was normal for humans or not. But he shrugged it off, turning his attention back to Cass. "Do you need help with anything?" He asked, trying to be polite. Plus he hated having nothing to do. |
