"This is nothing like home..." Vincent admitted. "Everyone got along with everyone in the camp when those cruel drill instructors weren't around. We stuck up for each other so no one really got singled out. I never realized it could be so painful to feel singled out."
Half of him was just telling her how he felt while they other half was just talking to himself. |
She looked a little worried "I'm sorry. Just ignore him, he doesn't deserve to use words." She said it to be half comforting but half serious at the same time, her brother was very cruel with words sometimes, but she could say the same about herself, so she added "But then again I could say that about everyone...." She was confusing herself at this point and gave up after that. She sighed, angry at herself for saying things even she couldn't understand.
"I can believe I just called that place home," Vincent said with a slight laugh. He was glancing at her at that point to see if she would react at all. When she didn't react he re-situated himself so that he could look at her, though he couldn't stare.
She smiled and laughed with him "Well we all have different idea's of home..." She said softly. She noticed he moved but she was used to ignoring little things like that by now.
Vincent finally got up and opened the window. A few animals came in and nestled themselves next to him when he returned to his spot. "You should talk to your brother," Vincent said after a moment.
She vaguely thought about the animals and wondered why they were there but pushed those thoughts out of her mind and nodded. "I'll do that now..." She said, standing up and walking out into the hall. "Benjamen...." She sang in a stern tone "Where are you?" She added in an eerie silence. He shifted on the bed in the smaller room and she went in. "Benjamen..." She said angrily "What's your problem with Vincent?!" She demanded, not giving him a chance to talk at all "He never did anything to you." She was talking at a rapid, angry pace and it almost frightened Benjamen "Or me. If anything he's helped you! You should be grateful of him, not angry with him! So you need to step up and apologize, or back down and shut. Your. Mouth." She finished with a glare on her face and arms crossed. He was stunned and looked at her with a dropped jaw and wide eyes "Don't you see how much happier you were before you ran away?! Before you killed everyone?! BEFORE YOU RUINED OUR LIVES?!" He got angry quickly and stood up, shouting down on her, abusing his height to be more menacing to her. She didn't even flinch at his yelling and anger, she was used to it. "YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T THINK OF IT FIRST AND YOU COULDN'T EVEN BEAT YOUR BABY SISTER!!!" She shot back with venom in her voice, "GET SOME RESPECT OR LEAVE!" She yelled, then turned back and slammed the door, shaking the room.
The animals had done a sufficient job in blocking out the noise. He was presently making sure one of the animals was alright since it had fallen off the bed. This care towards animals had just begun recently and it was starting to bother him in a way, but he couldn't help it.
She sighed and walked down stairs, bored to death she opened a book and started reading. About halfway through she heard a door open, but only vaguely enough to define the sound, and not respond to it. When she finished the page she finally turned the book over and found the title, it was a book called "Oscurità" Which she dully noticed meant darkness, "Hmm..." She said, thinking hard, trying to remember why the sounded so familiar, but she couldn't put her finger on it, so she gave up and went back to reading it.
Vincent was resting for the most part and hadn't heard his door open at all. He was in a peculiar state at the moment, not quite awake but not quite asleep.
Benjamen came down and walke doutside, while Risa continued to read and ignore him, absorbed in the book, almost done with it, within hours of when she had started the novel, and she was amazed by it.
A small animal had managed to get into the house and it was now bounding up the stairs to door that was cracked open. When it jumped on Vincent's bed he woke up. He yelped slightly from shock but then started laughing.
Her head shot up at the yelp and she ran upstairs, but when she heard laughter she slowed down to a cautious walk. She knocked lightly on his door, tilting her head a little when it slid open and she saw him with so many small animals.
"Oh hi," vincent said when he noticed Risa. "Apparently they like me." He was smiling at the moment and the animal that had come up, a squirrel, went over and sniffed Risa's foot. When it was satisfied it tried to climb up her leg but fell down so he just sat there staring up at her. "He likes you."
She laughed a little and picked up the squirrel "How cute!" She said, petting him with one finger "Why is this?" She asked curiously to Vincent.
The squirrel chattered slightly and it almost sounded like a laugh. Vincent was turning slightly red from embarrassment and looked down slightly. "I think it's because.. I kind.. of you... you already know." He stopped what he was saying so he wouldn't make more of a freak out of himself.
She tilted her head slightly, confused by his mumbling "Vincent, what? I can't understand you when you mumble, silly!" She said with a little laugh. "I don't think I do know." She added, still confused but now smiling.
"I think you're beautiful and smart and I like you," Vincent finally blurted out, though not loud enough for anyone but her to hear. A few of the animals seemed to laugh at him while others hid behind him as if displaying his emotion. One even fell off the bed because it was trying to back up so much.
She bit her lip and turned red and stumbled back a little "I have to...go..." She said, not being able to think of any legitimate reason to leave and stumbling out, dumbfounded.
The room went silent and Vincent was still in a slight amount of shock as to her reaction. Maybe she didn't like him, maybe he didn't even belong here. A few of the animals had calmed down completely and moved so he could lay down.
After a while, once she had gathered herself, Risa went back and knocked on Vincent's door for the umpteenth time that night. "Vincent, I just wanted to apologize for earlier, I was being an idiot, I know." She said quietly to the door.
"You know you can come in," he said in a calm voice. He was relaxed at the moment and would rather get an insult to the face than through a door.
She reluctantly opened the door and walked in. "Well..." She shrugged "I'm sorry I walked out before, I was being an idiot, like I said. I..don't really have...anything else to say...." She finished awkwardly, biting her lip.
He sat up and looked directly at her. He studied her face for a moment before looking away. "Tell me," he said after a moment. "What do you think of me?"
She looked down "Well...I think you're very smart and sweet but you have a bad temper that is sometimes offsetting..." She said truthfully, avoiding eye contact, not wanting to hurt him, "...but I like you too...." She mumbled after a few minuets.
He laughed slightly when she said he had a bad temper. "Well I guess two bad tempers would go together than?" he asked, feeling a bit relieved. He wasn't bothered by the truthfulness but he tried hard not to have a temper. "In what respects do I have a bad temper?"
