As Verona and Sebastian's speed increased, Verona found herself gripping to him tighter as they sped down the dirt path. She felt a sense of freedom, that never in her life had she thought possible.
The desolate dirt road had never seemed so inviting..

As the two wound in and out of things, Verona's mind wondered back to Eric.
Why had he kept saying that his father was, 'ill'.
It wasn't possible, nor the truth, as she had just seen him.
And why did he want to marry her so badly?
Verona wasn't the key to the city, she wasn't that important. There were many more young women who were much more valuable in stature, and riches.
It wasn't like she was perfect, or even that beautiful.

Verona popped back into reality, to notice that both her and Sebastian were slowly down as they neared a small, and abandoned looking shack.
Verona thought it was deserted until a small, and old looking women came from the door.

DelilahHeart 03-27-2008 10:21 PM

"Sebastian," Helen said flustered as she came to the horse. "Where is Ezekiel?"

She looked angry for the most part and she would have to ask about the girl later. She knew who Sebastian was but she never imagined he'd find a girl that was at his previous status and get her.

It clicked at the moment she saw Sebastian come behind them a few moments later. He looked exhausted and when he slid off the horse he went straight to Sebastian's horse.

"Verona," he said with a slight smile. "I stayed here for the past few nights. Isn't in nice?"

Of course it wasn't that nice. It was just a small hut though could be considered a shack to some. As it led into the side of the small hill. It was a comfortable abode with decent furnishings but there were only cots and no silk sheet covered, goose down throws like back at home.

simple 03-27-2008 10:36 PM

Verona immediately jumped into Ezekiel's arms with a smile,"It is much better than being with Eric."
When Ezekiel sat her feet onto the ground, Verona glanced around her surroundings, seeing that this seemed to be the only house around for at least a good mile.

"So," she said smiling pleasantly at the woman. "I am Verona Byers."

Curtsying to her politely, Verona could feel a slight bit of hatred towards her, although she seemed baffled as to why.

When the woman didn't bother to curtsy back, Verona blinked, and turned to stand back next to Ezekiel.
She tried to reach his ear, but failed.
"I don't think she likes me," she whispered, only audible to Ezekiel.
"She doesn't seem very nice.."

DelilahHeart 03-27-2008 10:41 PM

"Trust me," Ezekiel whispered. "She's just not used to our culture."

Helen had been very perplexed when Verona curtsied for her. She wondered why such an act was given to her. When she watch them whisper to each other she became even more confused.

She approached them at that point to inspect Ezekiel's face to see if there was an danger inflicted upon him. When she was satisfied she looked over Sebastian's face and arms and then finally stopped at Verona.

"Well Verona," she said with a slight smile. "My name is Helen but you can call me whatever you'd like. Old Hag cannot be something you call me."

When the introduced was done she turned slightly to lead them into the small hut she had so they could be somewhere that was a bit more comfortable than where they were now.

((what season and month is it in the roleplay? I think the outskirts should have some characteristics of a desert though have a few areas where there is a ton of green))

simple 03-27-2008 11:09 PM

Following Helen and Sebastian, Verona and Ezekiel made their way to the small hut.
At least now, things seemed a little less mechanic.

Things also felt better to Verona. The wind and are didn't seem quite as heavy and thick compared to the air back home was. And now, she was with Ezekiel, and that of course made everything seem better than it actually was.

As they walked through the door, Verona found herself cringe at the condition of the place.. It looked very run down, but yet somehow on the clean side..
Needless to say, she didn't like it very much.
However, if this is where Ezekiel had to stay, that was where she'd be.

DelilahHeart 03-27-2008 11:15 PM

Helen admired the way she had cleaned the place up after they'd left. She consider it to be in its neatest design at the moment though she could not possibly get some of the dirt from the floor.

She went into the kitchen then and began to form a fire so she could cook some food. She had other ways of preserving the food than the ways that were in the city. The cold damp area of the cellar was used as a cellar to preserve things though they did not last as long as in the city.

When she came back out she had a tray that had a few glasses filled with water and some biscuits that would suit a small appetite for a while.

"Oh good," Ezekiel said when he saw the water. "I've been thirsty a while."

He immediately took one of the glasses and drank some water. It was disgusting but he wouldn't say anything since she essentially saved his life.

simple 03-27-2008 11:24 PM

Verona smiled sweetly, and shook her head,"No thank you." She honestly did not feel the desire to partake of any food or drink here, but later if she got thirsty enough, she would have to breakdown.

She began to search for a place to sit down, and ended up finding a small, leather looking chair.
She smoothed out her dress, and sat down onto it slowly with a smile, maybe it wasn't so bad here.

As Sebastian took a biscuit, Verona was reminded of her hunger as her stomach growled, though she'd rather not have any of the food here.
"Um, Helen?" Getting to her feet, Verona smiled, and took one of the slightly browned things on the plate.
"I changed my mind," she said.

When she bit into it, she was surprised to see that it actually tasted quite good, and didn't make her stomach churn as she thought it would.

"It's good."

DelilahHeart 03-27-2008 11:35 PM

"Well of course it is dear," Helen said a bit shocked. "It's not like I have the worst living conditions possible."

Ezekiel had even been slightly surprised by Verona's actions. He took a biscuit also though he had no doubt before that it would be fine, he was assured when he took a bite.

"Thank you Helen," he said after swallowing. "Do you have anything other than water here?"

"If you're talking of ale or any other liquor, no. I do have goat's milk. It would be fresh and Sheila, the goat, is just behind the house." Helen responded.

Ezekiel just nodded slightly and hid his disappointment. He could go for something hard to be sure he wasn't just dreaming about Verona being there.

simple 03-27-2008 11:51 PM

Laughing a bit at Ezekiel, she pushed him, and then took another bite of her delicious biscuit.
She knew he had been hoping for something on the strong side, and even if Helen did have something of that sort, Verona would most certainly have not let him drink it.

"So Helen," she asked. "Umm, how many beds do you have here?"

It had been a bit of a burning question. It didn't seem like this place had anymore than two, if even that many.
And that meant, people would have to shared beds, or sleep on the floor.
Verona was sure that would be quite strange, and uncomfortable for someone to be sleeping on the floor.
But, if necessary, she wouldn't mind sharing one with Ezekiel of course.

DelilahHeart 03-28-2008 12:02 AM

"Oh dear," Helen said suddenly. "I never truly thought about beds. I'm afraid we only have three cots at the moment."

She seemed to run back somewhere to get the extra bed set up. When she came back she seemed a bit busied. She barely noticed the expression that Ezekiel was making. He was half-smiling and looking quite nervous about what his family.

"You can have the cot if you'd like," Ezekiel said gently.

He had a gut feeling she would hate living here after a while. He would hate seeing her leave but he knew he couldn't go anywhere else really. Any city would have enough information circling about how his family was almost killed by him.

simple 03-28-2008 12:12 AM

"It's okay.."

Verona could feel little butterflies in her stomach again, it seemed as though she wanted to share a bed with him..

"We could share," she said quietly, her face red.

Of course, she didn't mean in that way, but still.. She would be close to him, and that would be enough to last her forever.

"I mean, we don't have to, but I was just saying... Because I just don't want you to sleep on the floor... I mean, it wouldn't be like that! I mean.. uhhh.."

Verona was only spinning herself in circles as she tried to explain herself, but nothing seemed to work very well.

DelilahHeart 03-28-2008 12:22 AM

"I'll sleep on the floor," Ezekiel said noticing how she was acting.

In a way he was concerned for her due to her actions at the present moment. He was just ignoring how Sebastian was laughing at the two of them for such a petty conversation.

It was always in their society that it was not right to be promiscuous though Ezekiel may have crossed the line once or twice.

"I want you to be as comfortable as you can me," he said with a slight smile. "I think it would be more comfortable for you if you had the bed to yourself."

((sorry it's short))

simple 03-28-2008 12:31 AM

Verona sighed and pulled her knees to her chest..
Now she just felt stupid.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.

Sebastian still laughed as Verona sunk her face into her arms.

The strange feeling sunk into Verona as she hid her face from everyone, including Ezekiel, who seemed to spurn her very idea.

(Mine's shorter.)

DelilahHeart 03-28-2008 01:34 AM

Ezekiel looked confused when she sunk down to the floor. Seeing her face in her arms he glanced at Sebastian who almost immediately stopped laughing.

He sat down next to her and stared at her for a moment before looking around the room again. He wouldn't move as long as she was like this.

"It's fine," he said after a moment. "I just don't want you to feel awkward that's all. If you want to share a bed, we can."

It was more of a suggestion than anything. He already knew the beds weren't as comfortable as at home but they suited him well enough.

It was at about this time when Eric when to check on Verona again. When he found her not there he became enraged and fairly confused. The scoundrel took her away, wherever he was.

simple 03-28-2008 01:45 AM

(Bwahahaaa! Death to Eric!)

Looking up to Ezekiel slowly, her lips were in a pout as she spoke, "I just.. I don't want you to have to sleep on the floor because of me.. And I didn't want to be a problem or anything, so I thought it might be convenient or something... I mean I didn't mean it like that.."

Her cheeks turned bright red again as she hid her face.
"If you want to sleep on the floor, you can, but I don't want you to be uncomfortable because of me.."

Verona's face remained under her messy blond hair, and her arms as she tried to fight the blush within her cheeks.

Though she had always been the mature one when discussing things as such, the subject still made her reluctantly blush.

DelilahHeart 03-28-2008 02:19 AM

Eric wasn't sure what to do in the present situation. He could make an announcement about someone being kidnapped but his father would be a better person to do that. The target was easily placed at that point and it would most certainly draw Ezekiel home.

Ezekiel hadn't thought about the welfare of his family when he took Verona away from the city. He adored being with her and absolutely loved her. When he saw her turn red he couldn't help but shake his head slightly.

"Verona," he said. "Trust me. It wouldn't be uncomfortable for me."

He would in no way even dare to tell her his experience with a few of his 'friends' in the past two or three years. He was ashamed of it now that he'd met Verona and realized it was just a foolish attempt to find love.

simple 03-28-2008 02:27 AM

Looking up slowly, Verona smiled weakly, "Okay.."
She just had not wanted to seem as though she were trying to seduce him in some way, although, most people would have laughed at the thought of her trying to seduce anything..

Smiling a bit wider, Verona giggled at herself, and then began to get up slowly.
Her dress was sure to be filthy after this, and the terrible part was, she had no extra clothing with her, which would present a bit of a problem later on..

Sebastian looked as though he was attempting to suppress a laugh from the other side of the room, but Verona stared at him blankly, a look of almost distaste upon her.
Motioning for Ezekiel to get up as well, she turned back to him with her happy-as-ever smile.

DelilahHeart 03-28-2008 02:34 AM

When Sebastian saw the distaste he stopped. He wondered for a moment why she hated him. Since he'd come here he'd learned to be more... sensitive and tended to take looks like that a little personally. He left after that, leaving the two alone in the room while Helen prepared a room for them.

Ezekiel stood up as he was motioned to and took Verona's hands with his own. He loved seeing her smile and it formed a smile on his lips as well.

"You know," he said. "You are a very silly girl sometimes."

Announcements was what was on the minds of the townsfolk as the bell began to ring again and Winslow Singston was driven towards the town square for the second time that week. He was flustered with the disappearance of his son's bride to be.

simple 03-28-2008 02:53 AM

Verona smiled upon Ezekiel taking her hands.
"And you," she began. "Are too serious." All traces of a smile left her face, as she tried to imitate him.
"See, this is you!" Pulling her face into a pout, or almost scowl, she stuck her nose into the air and began to strut around like she was drunk.
"That is what you did when I tried to talk to you before the bar, you were just so mean! I even tried to shake your hand!"

Acting as though she had stumbled on something, she fell onto the chair and began to fake snore.
"And then," she said jumping up. "Maria came and got you. Of course, you weren't in a chair, you were in the floor."

She had given him a play by play look of how he had acted, and she giggled at her accuracy. It was only the truth.

DelilahHeart 03-28-2008 03:05 AM

Ezekiel looked a bit angry by her imitation of him. He crossed his arms and looked the other way with a slight. He wasn't scowling or smiling but his lips just formed a hard straight line for the most part.

He didn't want to snap at her like he would anyone else. Half the reason he drank so much was so that he could avoid changing and getting more scars. He already had a few from before Aldous wasn't able to make the special healing mixture. There was one on his back from his father and one on his arm.

It was the entire reason he always wore long-sleeves. It just bothered him when people saw the scars and asked how he got them. He usually made up the bar fight story but he was getting sick of it.

"Verona," he said in a strained voice after a moment. "Don't do that again."

simple 03-28-2008 03:12 AM

"What," she snapped. "Do you not enjoy seeing how you act when you are drunk? If you can't handle it, I honestly do not see how that is my fault. If you didn't drink, you wouldn't have had to see that."

Crossing her arms, she was practically glaring up at him now.
She could tell that he was quite angry about her little skit, but he shouldn't have been, especially since it was the way he seemed to act, only a little less goofy.

"If you have a problem with it, then don't drink."

Looking up at him, her eyes were a bit softened, but still, her face seemed hostile.
Though yet, it still wasn't as mean as she'd hoped, it seemed to be more of a pouting face than anything else.

DelilahHeart 03-28-2008 03:21 AM

Ezekiel didn't respond when she snapped. He closed his eyes slightly as he felt the pain in his side come to when he squeeze his arms slightly into his stomach. He grimace then and moved his arms.

He found a wooden chair to sit in and slumped down in it. He groaned slightly as he hit the bruise again and shifted so he couldn't hurt it. It still hurt a lot and he knew she wouldn't understand what it was like to get thrown around like a bear while you were in the form of a large feline.

"I guess you wouldn't want to see the consequences of me not drink," he responded in a bit of a vile tone. "Or maybe you'd blame it on the fact that I drank."

He had his sleeves pulled down and he almost rolled them up to be more comfortable but he didn't. It would have been awkward at that point so he just shifted again.

((poor Ezekiel and Verona))

simple 03-28-2008 03:31 AM

(I know!)

Standing in front of Ezekiel, she peaked an eyebrow.
"That did not make a lick of sense," she said with her hands on her hips. "And that's fine! If you want to be like this, then maybe I'll go back and marry your brother! Then maybe you can go back to drinking since you love it so damn much!"

Moving away from him immediately, Verona was crying as she left the building, shocked with herself, not only for fighting with Ezekiel, but for cursing.
She began to walk the way she had came, throwing Ezekiel's jacket off as she sobbed and walked.
And after a moment, the tears overcame her, and she sunk into the dirt road.
She gasped for air as she sat in practically the middle of the road, the cool air blowing gently against her body.
Never had she imagined herself acting like this, never.

DelilahHeart 03-28-2008 03:46 AM

Ezekiel was stunned by what she said. He looked weakened for a moment. After she walked out Helen had returned. Upon seeing Verona missing she began to beat him over the head with a pillow.

"You foolish boy," she said. "Go out and apologize for whatever you did now!"

He whimpered slightly and dodged another shot at him. When he got outside he looked both ways down the street and then went on the path towards town.

When he found his jacket he didn't stop to pick it up. Rather he just started unbuttoning his shirt so she'd have something to protect her from the sun and wind. He didn't mind, he probably deserved it.

"Verona," he said when he reached her, a slight tremor of fear in his voice. "Please put this on. Please."
With his shirt off the claw marks of a bear were revealed on his back along with a few smaller from when he'd gotten in a fight with Veronica. The bruise didn't look any better so all in all he looked like he wasn't as high and mighty as he sometimes presented himself to be.

Essentially he drank to forget what his father did to him and what he did to himself. It was really the only escape since finding joy would solve nothing and would only cause problems.
