((I see you pop up online and lurk here, and then you keep vanishing. >.< Are you ever gonna get MSN working? I thought you downloaded it last night. =S ))

The cat opened its eyes and stood up, slinking out of the car and trotting up to the door. He sat down in front of the door , staring up at it and meowing to be let in. 'I can't believe I'm doing this...'

True Jelly Oh! 05-07-2008 03:51 AM

Brodie went after the cat, the fact that it already recognized their door as a way into the warm house only crossed his mind for a second. Probably something all stray cats learn after a while, he opened the door and went in ahead of the cat, the light shaded blue wallpaper greeting him familiarly. He was about to head upstairs to his own bedroom, when he turned and saw the little stray.

"Mom?" he called into the kitchen where Brodie's mother was undoubtedly putting away groceries, "We have, like, a cat bowl or something right?"

"No, just use some old Tupperware or something," the reply came, "But keep it in your room for now, it should get used to the place." Brodie looked back at the cat, wondering if it would follow him up the stairs. "Well," he said to it, "C'mon, ya little...cat," He shook the bag behind him as he went up the stairs. He wondered how easy it was to tell a cat's gender as he opened the door to his room.

((I'm a lurker by trade. I've been trying to get better about that, but I need to leave the room sometimes. It's not easy having as many siblings as I do.

And MSN's being stupid on my computer. It keeps doing the "sorry, we couldn't install these thingies." My computer's dumb like that. I already have Yahoo messenger on it so I think MSN should've worked.))

Insane Cricket 05-07-2008 04:01 AM

His tail twitched in irritation at being called a cat, though he followed up like an obedient pet. Bitching at himself mentally, he darted into the boy's room and hopped up onto his bed, sitting down and staring at him with those bright yellow eyes.

((It's easy to tell a cat's gender. XD Shozii is a tomcat. I actually have a tomcat who doesn't spray. I love him to death. He doesn't act like a tomcat, so we just leave him intact because he's healthier that way. Plus, he's an inside cat, so it's not like he's going to father any kittens.

EDIT: True, I keep sending you messages and they keep getting sent back to me. But I keep getting yours. Damnit...

EDIT2: Never mind... o.o))

True Jelly Oh! 05-07-2008 02:27 PM

Brodie stared back at it, he didn't know if his mother would like the cat being on his bed. She did tell him to keep the cat here, and there aren't many a cat would rather be in here, right?

"But I swear to God, if you poop on something," he turned and closed the door, dropping the bag onto his desk nearby.

Insane Cricket 05-07-2008 09:24 PM

He shot the boy a look that clearly and angrily said, 'whatever', and he curled up in a ball where he sat, covering his nose with his tail.

((Sorry it's short. He was fighting me.))

True Jelly Oh! 05-07-2008 11:13 PM

Brodie opened the door again and called downstairs, "Mom, I'm not hungry!" and closed the door before she started insisting that he had dinner with them. He wasn't that tired, just tired enough to not want to sit through another awkwardly silent meal, or an awkward conversation at the table. He was already grounded after all, a talk about it seemed a bit unnecessary.

Turning back to his room he sighed, "Now it's in my bed." He didn't like the idea a pushing the little animal off so he thought he'd just sit down next to it for a little while. He need a bit of non-awkward silence anyway.

((Should we skip to the next day?))

Insane Cricket 05-08-2008 12:24 AM

His ears twitched and he looked up upon hearing the boy griping about him being in the bed. He was looking after the ungrateful little brat, the least he could do was give him something soft to sleep on. Letting out an extremely low growl, he stood and jumped from the bed, crawling into the darkness underneath it.

'If I ever find out who ever started those myths about sleeping with cats, I swear I'm going to dig up their soul and torment them. If only for the fact that I have to sleep on the floor tonight,' he thought in irritation, his ears twitching a few more times.

He laid his jaw flat on the floor between his front paws, his body perfectly straight behind him.

((I was thinking about fast-forwarding to about two in the morning, rather than the actual next day. I had something planned, though if you want to go to the next day that's fine. Either way.))

Amurita 05-08-2008 02:24 AM

((Ahh...i really haven't been feeling like writing lately. I'm gonna force myself to finish this now so i don't have it hanging over my head.))

Adalia had managed to make her way onto the top of the ambulance. She stared intently as the footing beneath her as she wondered how Linton Connor was to die today.
---
Linton Connor squirmed as he watched the two ambulance workers silently converse with each other while the ambulance rocked back and forth from the force of the people outside. He jumped slightly as he could have sworn he heard someone land on the roof. As the two men finished their conversation and moved towards the politician, Linton clearly knew that he would not like the decision they had made.

Before they even could say a word to him Linton said to them, "I knew it, as soon as the situation changes, people show their true colours."
In response, one of the men through a white blanket on top of Linton. "Here use this to cover yourself." he said as the other man as well as himself took a pair of blankets for themselves.
"Here's the plan." the other man continued. "We're not gonna pretend that we like you, but we were asked to escort you out of the hospital so that's what we're going to do." He paused for a moment to see if Linton had anything to say.
"I-" Linton began, but was soon cut-off by the man as he grinned and continued.
"Make sure to keep yourself covered under there, so that the press won't be able to tell who's who. We'll both stand on either side of you as we try to make a path through the mob. As soon as we make it through them we'll split into three opposite directions. They won't know who's who and be forced to split up, giving you the perfect opportunity to make a run for it."
The two men had big smiles on their faces, obviously pleased with themselves.
"I'm sorry to break up the party, but I think you've forgotten something." Linton said as he pointed to his shoulder. "I'm not getting far with this injury."

One of the men put his hand on the handle of the door, "Don't worry about it. We already called the police they should be here any moment and put a stop to the chase."
"Personally, we would like to just wait for them to arrive," the other man continued, "but we didn't think you'd rather just end up on the evening news instead." With that he pulled the sheet over Linton's head.
---
There was a sudden commotion below as a door of the ambulance burst open and three figures who could only be described as wearing cheap halloween ghost costumes burst out. With the element of surprise the ghosts managed to push some of the press out of the way and begin a path through the crowd. Somehow they reached the edge and then split up as they began running in three directions.
---
Linton ran as fast as he could with his injury, trying to ignore how ridiculous he felt. He wondered what Alexander, his son, would say if he were to see him right now.
---
Adalia watch the event in fascination as she asked herself which ghost she would reap as sirens were heard in the background. Noticing that one of the ghosts seemed to have some red bleeding into it's sheet she decided to follow that one.
---
As daylight faded, Linton Connor realized that there was no longer anyone following him. "It actually worked..." the man mumbled to himself as he pulled his disguise off. "I can't believe it."

After finding a trashcan to dispose of his disguise, Linton looked around and realized he was in unfamiliar territory. No, not unfamiliar, it was a place he had been before. But this was a place that he would not easily find a cab to get out of, not even a ghost sheet could help him now.

At this hour, there was not many people on the street. Linton couldn't decide if this was a blessing or a curse. As he walked down the street the man failed to blend into his surrounding as he had decided to change back into his suit before he left the hospital. Then, without warning, Linton found himself dragged into an alleyway and staring into the faces of three angry men.

"Well, well, well..." the man in the middle, who was clearly the leader, said. "If it isn't Mr. Linton Connor. A normal man would not have come back here, but I suppose that a man of your stature doesn't learn his lesson after he gets shot the first time."

The largest of the three men grabbed Linton by the cuff of his shirt as he lifted the man inches above the ground. "Now, now, big fella." Linton said to the man.

Directing his next response to the leader, Linton pleaded, "I've really learned my lesson this time. You've all helped me out so much in my career, I've just come this time to tell you all that I'd definitely pay you back. Just give me some ti--"
Before he could finish, the third man slapped his face so hard that blood came out of his nose. "No one said you could speak." was his simple response.

The leader smiled at Linton. "I've already given you so much and now you want even more? " The man turned and walked away. Before he left the alley Linton heard him say, "Excuses are for the dead."

Linton closed his eyes shut, the only thought running through his head was that he could not die this way. Without thinking Linton struck with all his might, kneeing the large man holding him in the groin. Before the man fell, Linton used this opportunity to catch the other man off guard.

When both men fell, Linton stood over their bodies for a moment not believing what had happened. After what had seemed like an eternity to him, Linton forced his feet to move. He didn't know where he was going, all he knew was that he had to get out of here fast.

As Linton Connor ran out of the alley he heard a loud bang which he had heard before, and felt the same explosion in his chest that he had experienced three days ago but on the opposite side. His vision blurred for a moment, but he still forced himself to run. He just kept telling himself that if somehow he kept running he would live.

But gradually, his pace slowed and he couldn't bear the pain anymore. Just before he fell to the ground he could have sworn he saw a hooded girl standing before him. Staring straight into his eyes.
---
After the mobsters had confirmed the status of Linton Connor, they fled the scene of the crime. When Adalia was sure that no one else was around, she lifted Linton's torso up and leaned him against the wall of a building. Using her hand to close his eyelids, it looked as if Linton had just fallen asleep - if you took away the blood.
She sat beside him and waited patiently. Her hand went to her chest as she felt an odd feeling that she hadn't felt for a long time. Deciding to ignore it, she moved her hand to reach for her pocket watch. "9:24 pm. Linton Connor died."
--
"What? Dead?!" came a surprised response beside her. Adalia stared straight ahead of her ignoring the voice she heard. "Listen to me." it persisted. Dragging himself in front of the girl, Linton Connor continued. "Let me tell you something miss. Three days ago, I was shot in the shoulder and the parametics said I wouldn't survive but guess what. I'm still here."
Adalia stood up, and acted as if she still did not hear a word.
Linton decided that she needed more proof to believe him. "And just a moment ago, I was cornered by some mobsters, but being the man I am I made my way out of it...but then..."
The girl looked him straight in the eyes, "But then...?" she prodded.
"I-I don't remember what happened, but I got away." he quickly finished. Taking a closer look at the girl in front of him he asked, "Hey, have I seen you before?"
Adalia gave him a sly grin. "The only way you could have seen me is if you are dead. For I, Linton Connor, am a reaper."
With a serious look on his face, Linton put a hand on her shoulder. He then laughed very loud, much more hardy than Adalia thought he would have when imagining a laugh from someone with his pale skin and thick rimmed glasses.
"My dear, I have met many odd people throughout my career, but never have I met one who claimed to be a reaper."
Adalia brushed his hand off her shoulder. "I'm not claiming anything. I am." She then pointed her hand to the body beside her, "And how do you explain that."

Linton was silent for a moment, and then let out a nervous laugh. "You take this really seriously don't you. Even hiring a body double."
"You just don't get it do you?" Adalia said, a hint of impatience in her voice. "Look at his wounds and look at yourself. There is no way I could have gotten this accurate."
Linton remained silent, crouching down and quietly observing the body.
They both were caught off guard by screams coming from the street across the road. One of the people in the group fumbled to take out their cell phone and call the police.
Linton moved toward them and tried to reassure them that it was all a joke but for some reason they all seemed to ignore him. Within moments the police arrived with the parametics who took care of the body. No matter how much Linton tried to get their attention, they seemed to take no heed of him.

"Give it up!" Adalia finally said to him. "No matter what you do, they can't hear you. The only thing they see is the body that you've left on this earthly plane."

Linton backed away from the reaper, "Stay away from me, you, you freak! There's no way I'm going to believe you!" He began to run away from her but Adalia had already anticipated this and grabbed his arm.

"I'm sorry, but I can't let you do this. It's time to go Linton Connor."

And finally, Linton Connor name's disappeared from the List.

((momentary period of siblings-not-on-the-computerness!))

Brodie tilted his head, it seemed as if the cat responded to what he said. It might have been trained...No, that would mean it had an owner. And Fate doesn't seem to like me enough for me to be able to just return the thing. He lied down slowly, pulling the covers up over himself. "Goodnight," he said to no one in particular.

((Two in the morning sounds fine, but Brodie would be asleep.))

Insane Cricket 05-08-2008 03:28 AM

((He won't be asleep for long. X3 ))

"I looked all over for you. What the hell are you doing here?" asked a hushed voice, the man glaring at the man sitting on the desk. He was trying to stay quiet so as not to wake the sleeping boy.

"Watching over this ungrateful little brat. He doesn't really seem to give a shit if he lives or dies. But Andrew wants him alive, so I conned my way into the house."

"And how did you manage that?" His eyes could easily be seen in the dark room, the same as Shozii's. The only way they could properly see in the dark was if their eyes could be seen.

"Shifted into a cat," he grumbled, looking away.

"So you're his pet now?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the wall next to the open window. "Brilliant. Never thought I'd see the day when Death was an emo teenager's pet."

"Shut it."

True Jelly Oh! 05-08-2008 03:45 AM

Brodie groaned, feeling himself turn over just barely awake. Eh? Voices.... After a few seconds of the low words drifting to him, he woke up a bit more. Opening his eyes slightly, he could barely make out unfamiliar shadows across the room. He realized it wasn't daytime, and that those shadows-

"Wha-" Brodie, somehow in waking up, pushed himself forward, off the bed and onto the floor. With a low thud he hit the carpet. Hitting the ground made him wake up fully, he had to remember what it was exactly that woke him. "Holy-" Brodie frantically scrambled into an upright sitting position, holding his arms in front of him as if it would shield some attack. "Who's'er!?"

Insane Cricket 05-08-2008 03:52 AM

"Oh yeah, thanks a lot!" Shozii growled, quickly shifting back into a cat and sitting on the desk, turning his brightly colored eyes upon Brodie. He meowed loudly, though innocently to distract him.

"Idiot. That's what you get for conning your way into a kid's bedroom," Zaitsu hissed, shifting into a raven and perching on the desk next to the cat, focusing his bright red eyes on the boy as well. He let out a loud caw and took flight, leaving the room and perching in a tree nearby, staring through the window at the cat on the desk. They'd have to continue their conversation later, as he and Shozii wouldn't be able to understand each other thanks to their different forms.

True Jelly Oh! 05-08-2008 04:08 AM

Brodie lowered his arms at the sound of a loud 'Meow.' That didn't stop his heart from beating a thousand miles a minute, he darted across the room to flick on the light. The light revealed an empty room, empty, of course, except for a small black cat that sat unassumingly on his desk.

"Jee-zuz..." he sighed as he lowered his head. What am I, eight? "Jumping over the gap between my bed and the door because there might be a monster under there." But, man, was that a vivid dream. He could've sworn there were voices, people even. Rubbing his eyes, he felt how tired he suddenly was as soon as the sudden wave of adrenaline passed.

There was a knock at his door, "Brodie? I thought I heard something." He opened the door wide enough for his mother to see him, "I'm fine, Ma. The cat just- I dunno, it must just woke me up. I'm going back to bed now." His mother looked a little uneasy, but she left.

Closing the door and offing the light, Brodie dragged himself back to his bed. After a second of thought, he threw one of his pillows to the ground. "You sleep, too, kitty-cat-thing" he said through his pillow, "...don't wanna..wake up again..."

Insane Cricket 05-08-2008 04:29 AM

The cat meowed again, only softer this time, though he didn't move.

After a moment, the raven flew back into the room, landing next to the cat and watching the boy in silence. He'd wait until Brodie went to sleep again if he had to, but he needed to talk to Shozii, and the reaper was stubborn and wouldn't leave yet.

He turned his bright orange eyes from the boy to the raven and mewed at it.

True Jelly Oh! 05-08-2008 04:55 AM

What Brodie guessed to be random noises the house made at night went unnoticed for the most part. He fell back asleep quickly.

((*doesn't know how to make falling asleep any longer*))

Fullmetal Phantom 05-08-2008 10:23 AM

((Sorry I haven't posted...been very busy with getting ready for this trip.

And whee...now I get to go into one of Hideto's flashback dreams! ;p He has these a lot...surprising he's not a little emo brat. But he's too obsessed with appearances for that. >w>;

...and yes, I do like writing horror and stuff like that. And the original language he's speaking in is pretty important in this, because he talks in his sleep. What he's saying can frequently be heard in reality. >w>; I will translate. And I won't directly quote anyone else.))
Pain...such intense pain. A deep, throbing pain in his head...he hardly knew what happened; all he could remember was creaming, seeing his friend fall...and the next thing he knew, he was on the ground with this terrible headache. He grasped his head, hoping to make it stop...though it only made it worse as his fingers touched a large...soft spot. No wonder he'd blanked for a minute...no wonder it hurt so bad. Now almost as bad as the pain is his head was the nausea he felt. Someone needed to call an ambulance...and fast.

Suddenly he realized...ordinarily, if there were an accident while Haruhi were around, she would have run right to him. She seemed oddly silent...too silent.

He rushed around to the other side of the tree and spotted his friend lying there, completely motionless, apparently unconscious. Ignoring the nearly unbearable pain in his head, he knelt down next to her and grabbed her hand, trembling so hard that he felt he would liquefy at any moment.

"Haru-chan...samero!" he demanded, squeezing her hand and ignoring the worsening pain. He was beginning to feel dizzy...very dizzy...this was definitely a bad sign. But at least he was conscious and able to walk...or would be able to if he could stop shaking. "SAMERO!" Tears began stinging his eyes as he continued shouting. Suddenly he noticed the unnatural bend in her neck, and let out an ear-shattering scream.

"OGIRO! SHINUNA! HARU-CHAN, OGIRO!" he demanded, not wanting to believe that his friend could possibly be dead. They were both only five...it was impossible! "Ogitekureyou..." He felt as though he couldn't breathe; his chest seemed to be ready to explode.

He didn't know what happened, but soon he was surrounded by people...paramedics shouting, the noise only making the pain in his head worse. everything was shut out to him, though - all that mattered to him was waking his friend. She couldn't be dead...she just couldn't be.

Suddenly, he felt himself being pulled back. He struggled against the worsening pain and dizziness, desperate to reach his friend, though it was obvious that he was weakened...even such a small child should have been able to fight much harder. "ORE O HANATE!" he demanded, gasping for breath after completing the sentence. he knew he would hate himself for being so rude later...but right now, it didn't matter. Nothing mattered anymore but reaching his friend. "Haru-chan...sametekureyou..." he squeaked out again, watching as the paramedics did nothing to help her...they knew it was already too late, but he just didn't want to believe it.

The next thing he knew, he was on the ground again, after being released for just a split second...he didn't know if it was the stress or the injury, or perhaps the combination of both that left him unable to stand...but either way, he couldn't support his own weight. His vision was growing blurry...he felt he would pass out at any moment. As his eyes slowly started to close, he could have sworn he saw a figure standing over him...a woman, dressed all in white, with eyes that matched his almost exactly...the woman from the photos! His mother...even without knowing her, he recognized her. Either he was dying or delirious...or both.

"O...O'kaa-chan...?" He weakly raised a shaking hand, reaching for her, laughing deliriously as everything faded from view. The shouting quieted down shortly after. It was ending...he knew there was a good chance he wouldn't wake up this time.
Hideto jolted up in bed, tears still stinging his eyes. He looked around at his surroundings...he wasn't in a hospital. He was still in the doctor's guest room...was that good or bad?

It must have been all the speaking of death earlier that put the thought in his mind...must have been. After all...he had even mentioned this incident. Even just that brief mention WOULD be enough to leave it in his mind. Maybe he should have gone back to the computer for a distraction for a little while...but then again, he hadn't even realized he'd gotten to bed yet. The day was so exhausting he probably would have passed out on the keyboard if he'd tried.

She was a good person...never did anything to hurt anyone. She was probably in a better place now...thinking of this brought some comfort. But suddenly he realized...that image of his mother. He thought nothing of it then...but with all he'd been learning, he realized that maybe there was something more going on that he hadn't realized before...

No. It was probably nothing.

((Ooh, foreshadowing. :O Yes, I'm thinking of possibly bringing in a new character after my trip, if more humans have joined. >w>; On to translation:
Samero - Wake up
Sametekureyou - wake up please, in a selfish pleading sort of way.
Ogiro - another way of saying "wake up," this one with emphasis on physically getting up.
Ogitekureyou - Very similar to "sametekureyou," but with the same emphasis on physically getting up.
Shinuna - Don't die
Ore o hanate - "Let me go!" in the way you wouldn't want to say to a stranger. Very informal and rather harsh; pretty rude in certain situations...including that one.))

Insane Cricket 05-08-2008 10:40 AM

Once the boy was asleep, the cat smacked the bird in the head with a strong paw, knocking the animal off the desk and onto the floor with a soft 'thud'. A chase and small battle ensued, though it was a relatively quiet scuffle.

Bird and cat battled fiercely with each other, ending with the quiet sound of a man's voice accidentally breaking past his lips as he was pinned to the floor.

"Get out of here," Shozii hissed, glaring down at Zaitsu underneath him.

"I can't. I'm supposed to stay by you," he whispered back, struggling to pull his wrists from Shozii's grip, where he had them against the floor by his ears.

"Who ordered you to stalk me?" He put more pressure on his knee, which was also on Zaitsu.

"Who else?" He squirmed a bit, Shozii's knee uncomfortably close to his biological valuables.

"Go back."

"I have nowhere else to go. Sleeping on park benches will only get me more stares, and Andrew took my keys so I can't even sleep in my car. I don't have anywhere to go."

"Tough luck. Get out of here before the kid wakes up again."

True Jelly Oh! 05-08-2008 02:00 PM

((*wondering whether or not Brodie is supposed to wake up again*))

Brodie was dreaming. It was a rather normal dream, him just walking down the street, an occasional elephant would walk by. Except for that weird scuffling noise one of the elephants made as they passed. And then there were the people on the other side of the street, he could hear their voices but not any actual words. One of the voices sounded slightly familiar...

Insane Cricket 05-08-2008 02:10 PM

((Yeah, he's supposed to. ^^;; ))

"Mind getting off of me now?"

"Go back to Andrew."

"I told you, I can't--" His words quickly changed into a loud, painful sound that was quickly muffled by the orange-eyed man's hands against his mouth, clamping it shut. Shozii had moved his knee directly onto Zaitsu's groin, forcing all of his weight down upon it.

"Shhh!" he hissed, digging his fingernails into Zaitsu's face as he held the young man's mouth shut.

True Jelly Oh! 05-08-2008 02:26 PM

With a small gasp Brodie's eyes snapped open, 'I'm not dreaming?'((Happy?)) No, this time he was sure he could make out the silhouette of at least one man and some lump under him. His heart dropped into his stomach as realized they were here the last time he woke up as well.

"What-ah, Who-who are you? Who's there?" he ventured a small demand as he prepared himself to get hit. 'God, pleeease don't let him kill me...'

((Seriously though, please feel free to go point out mistakes and such. Otherwise, I'll never learn.))

Insane Cricket 05-08-2008 02:38 PM

((I haven't slept yet, so any mistakes won't be pointed out until later. @[email protected] ))

Shozii's head snapped up to look wide-eyed at Brodie, his eyes still glowing brightly in the dark.

Zaitsu seized his opportunity and kneed the older man in the groin, before pushing him off, sending him skidding sideways across the floor like a ragdoll. "You're an ass, you know that?"

"And you need to stop listening to Andrew's warped views on life and death," Shozii growled, curling up in a ball in pain.

He stood up and looked over at Brodie, his red eyes glowing the same as Shozii's. He scoffed lightly and once again took the form of a raven, perching himself on the desk.

Shozii groaned, though he didn't shift back into a cat; he was in too much pain to conceal himself in such an innocent form.

True Jelly Oh! 05-08-2008 11:40 PM

Brodie stared at the two, particularly at their eyes. He hated how quickly these strange happenings were coming at him lately. He propped himself up on his elbows and watched the red-eyed one change into a black bird and land on his desk. He looked back to the other one. The glowing orange eyes heped him match the voice to a face. "You-you're"-'Ah, I don't think I got the guy's name'-"Doctor Cozu's friend, right?"

He'd guessed earlier that the guy was about as normal as he thought the doctor would be. This pretty much proved it for him.

Insane Cricket 05-08-2008 11:43 PM

"Friend is what he would call us. We're not friends," Shozii replied, slowly sitting up. He shot a glare at the bird as a scoffing sound came from it.

"I guess innocent little meowing isn't going to save my ass this time," he sighed.

True Jelly Oh! 05-09-2008 12:15 AM

'Innocent little...' He had to think for a second, 'He couldn't be'- Well, the cat did seem a lot smarter than he thought they could be. So, this guy was a cat, but that didn't really explain one very important thing, "What exactly are you doing here?" Brodie asked as he pushed himself into a sitting position, "Not, like, here in general-just why are you in my house?" He really hated the idea of explaining this sort of thing to his parents.

Insane Cricket 05-09-2008 12:51 AM

"Because Andrew wants you alive and you're being an ungrateful, mopey little emo boy," Shozii replied, getting to his feet.

The raven shifted back into a man, sitting on the desk with his arms crossed over his chest. "I still find it amusing that you were willing to play the boy's pet."

"Oh shut up, will you? You're just a worthless bird."

"And you're just a stray."
