True Jelly Oh! 06-01-2008 02:46 AM

Brodie's mouth hung open slightly, as if he were going to say something. He was ready to say something, anything that would come out, he just couldn't seem to figure out what it was he could say. 'Damn, how do I argue with that?' The small, uneasy pause was enough for him to realize that he couldn't really argue with that, it was a bit too right.

With an annoyed huff he hid his chin in his folded arms on the chair's back again. "That's not fair," he murmured and looked sideways out the window, "The way you talk, you've probably never lost anyone you really depended on."

Andrew looked up at the door when he heard someone knocking. Slowly rising to his feet, he went to the door and pulled it open, ushering Tobias inside and closing the door before someone could see her.

"What is it?" he asked quietly, locking the door and returning to his seat on the couch.

"Yes, I have," he replied with a sigh. Quickly, he finished up his sandwich and rolled over onto his stomach, sliding his lunch box back underneath the bed. "I lost my parents and my sisters. Electra and I are the only members of our family remaining."

Tobias leaned against the wall beside the door. She had vanished through the door just in time, as her fluffy tail was now swishing behind her. She took a moment to compose herself before coming to stand beside the sofa, "Sorry if I interrupted something Andrew... I guess I was just nervous. It's supposed to be my first evening at the hospital and I'm so nervous I can't even hide myself properly..." She leaned against the sofa arm and sighed, "I'm scared...."

Yume_no_Yume 06-01-2008 03:12 AM

She smiled as she continued to tip toe around the kitten. Not bothering to look up, she replied, "I always had a way with animals when I was alive. I remember animals following me home, and I had to beg my mother to keep them, jst so they could have a place to belong..."

Insane Cricket 06-01-2008 03:21 AM

"You didn't interrupt anything. I'm just very worn out," he replied with a sigh, leaning back. "I'm having trouble disguising myself as well, though it's from exhaustion rather than nervousness. Would you like some help appearance-wise?" he offered.

"Did you ever belong anywhere?" he asked quietly, straightening himself in the seat and watching her through the mirror on the turned down sun visor.

"I don't really see how that's any of your business," Amani growled, shooting Zaitsu a glare. He knew exactly where this was going to lead to.

Merrihop 06-01-2008 03:24 AM

Tobias folded back her ears softly, then knelt to pat Andrew on the shoulder, "I guess a little help would be good, but I don't want you to overexert yourself. Are you alright?" She rested both of her hands on the arm of the sofa, watching Andrew with her large brown eyes.

Yume_no_Yume 06-01-2008 03:33 AM

She looked questioningly at Amani, before looking at Zaitsu in the mirror. "I haven't felt like I belonged in a long time...although I suppose I did when I was at home, surrounded by my family of pets... Why do you ask?"

Insane Cricket 06-01-2008 03:47 AM

"As alright as I can be, given the fact that I work in a hospital and don't get nearly enough sleep to hold this human shape. It's getting to the point that I might have to quit, or somehow make myself less available so I can get as much sleep as I need..." He sighed and pulled himself to his feet, his appearance immediately shifting into something less humanlike. His ears becoming long, slender and pointed.

His eyes turned slitted like a serpent's, his hair instantly growing down past his waist. His body seemed to completely change its build as he took on his full height, rather than the height he was as a human.

"You always worry about me, Tobias. But save your worry for those that need it. I'll be fine after I get more rest." He placed his hand on her shoulder, an electric blue aura forming around it as he helped calm her. Almost immediately, her disguise reformed around her, concealing her true form.

"We don't have anywhere to belong, that's all," Zaitsu replied with a sigh, closing his eyes again and resting his arm over them to block out the light.

"We belong where we are, Zaitsu," Amani replied angrily, turning into the parking garage of their own apartment building.

Tobias took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, glancing up at Andrew and smiling gently, "Alright then, but be sure to take care of yourself." Even though she knew it was Andrew doing it, she did feel more calm. She hugged Andrew softly and smiled, "I'm still a bit nervous, but... I hope things will be ok..." She stepped back and brushed her now brown hair back, "Is there anything you think I need to know? I still have a few more minutes before I need to catch the bus."

Insane Cricket 06-01-2008 04:05 AM

"Steer clear of Dr. Brickston. He'll make your life hell. And you need to know now, you can't save everyone. You have to pick and choose, and pray that you chose the right life to save," he said, sitting back down. His entire body ached from maintaining a human form too often.

Merrihop 06-01-2008 04:10 AM

Tobias nodded softly, "Is Dr. Brickston going to be in the maternity ward? They've put me on the evening shift with the babies..." She smiled, an expression that seemed to reach all the way to her toes. It was clear she was very happy to work with the little ones.

Her expression changed after a moment though, "Andrew how can there be a wrong life to save?..."

Insane Cricket 06-01-2008 04:15 AM

"He prowls for newcomers to harass..." His eyes trailed up to hers, an almost sad expression on his face. "There can be a wrong life to save. Some will turn into great people and help others, and some will become murderers and rapists. You have to pray that you somehow save the ones worth saving, and not those that'll hurt others."

Merrihop 06-01-2008 04:19 AM

Tobias whimpered quietly, looking down at the floor, "But I can't know that... and doesn't everyone deserve a chance at least? I mean... I'm going to be looking after newborns, Andrew... little ones who haven't had a chance left... " She bit her lip. She knew Andrew was more experienced than she was, but she was starting to feel terribly afraid of what might happen. Could she handle this, or had she made a terrible mistake?

Insane Cricket 06-01-2008 04:28 AM

"Sometimes you can tell, even when they're just born... But if you're worried about it, get Eirose to help you. Given his experiences in life, he'd be able to sense these things better."

Merrihop 06-01-2008 04:56 AM

Tobias nodded quietly, then took a deep breath and turned her eyes up to Andrew, an attempt at a smile on her face, "I'll give him a call then. I hope he's alright with coming with me... He seems to be sleeping a lot lately..." She had to chuckle a little, thinking of her husband snoozing the day away.

After a moment, she exhaled audibly and nodded, "Alright... I guess I'll go for my first shift then! Wish me luck!" She waved a little and turned to head out the door, knowing full well she'd need more than luck. As she went down the stairs, she pulled out her cell phone and dialed home, waiting for Eirose to pick up the phone.

For some reason, Adalia found herself back in the same room she had occupied moments ago. After escorting Kay to egypt, she returned to the place of the girl's death. As a reaper, Adalia had seen that people could die in many ways: old age, natural disasters, illness, murder, accidents and so on. But in the end, these souls had all been of normal humans.

When Adalia had been returning from egypt she found herself experiencing regret. As with other deaths in the past, she always tried to end the ordeal as soon as possible. But with every step she took she felt her curiosity grow, her mind replaying the events of the morning in her head. So now, she was back in that small studio apartment, her eyes locked upon the black gem sitting on the vines which encased a lifeless body. The reaper walked slowly toward it, her hand reaching for the black stone which had enraptured her thoughts.

As she reached across the purple flowers which had sprouted from the vines she felt a dull throbbing in her head. She tried to ignore it, but within seconds, the dull throbbing increased into a tormenting pain. Before she could even touch the gem the reaper fell to the floor, her hands desperately clutching at her temples. Her vision became blurry and her energy felt drained. As she fought against the pain. she could not even manage to keep herself hidden from the world any longer.

Finally, the pain ended as she passed out and the world vanished from her sight.

"Well, if you don't feel like you belong Zaitsu, why do you stay? Or do you belong, and you simply do not realize that you do?" she asked, somewhat slowly and quietly, looking once again upon the small kitten in her lap.

He looked up from the notebook he was writing in, looking over at the phone across the room. Setting down his pen, he slowly got up and made his way over to the table the dock for the wireless phone rested on, picking the phone up from the dock.

"Hello?" he asked after turning on the device and putting it to his ear.

When he'd returned to his apartment, he found the reaper unconscious on the floor. He snatched up the blackened gem from his sister's body, hanging it on a cord of silver and placing it around his neck.

Shifting into a large brown and tan wolf, he crouched low next to the reaper's face and let out a loud warning growl. He wasn't pleased with this person invading his home.

"There's nowhere that I belong, so why not stay? I stay where my brother is. We belong together, though we don't belong anywhere. It's...complicated..."

Merrihop 06-02-2008 12:10 AM

Tobias' face lit up when she heard Eirose on the phone, "Hello sweetheart... I was just on my way to the hospital, and I came by to see Andrew. I'm so nervous I can't hold a disguise..." She sighed a bit. Had her ears been visible, they would have been laying down against her head, "I was wondering... Eirose... could you come with me to the hospital? It's my first shift and I'm scared... And Andrew was warning me about there being right and wrong people to save... and that you might be able to tell..." She tapered off, clearly feeling terrible about the prospect of letting an innocent child pass away because of what they might become, "... I need some help..."

Insane Cricket 06-02-2008 12:28 AM

"Alright," he replied, glancing out of the window. "Would you like me to meet you there?" He understood that his wife was nervous, and though he felt that she could do it without him, he knew that just being there would comfort her.

Merrihop 06-02-2008 12:32 AM

Tobias smiled softly, nodding a moment, "That would be nice... I'm at the bus stop already. I shouldn't be too long getting there...." She waited a moment, taking out her bus pass and climbing aboard the public transport vehicle, "I'll see you soon, alright?... I love you." She smiled again, before quietly closing her phone and tucking it into her purse as she took a seat on the bus, glancing up at the route chart to ensure she knew when she was going to get off.

Insane Cricket 06-02-2008 01:05 AM

He smiled softly and put the phone back on the dock. Pocketing his keys and cellphone, he locked up and left the apartment, heading out of the building and down the street. Contemplating on which form of transportation to use, he settled on a bus. He himself had no concerns over carbon emissions or other such things, though his wife had rubbed off on him a bit.

Yume_no_Yume 06-02-2008 01:06 AM

She smiled, shaking her head. "If I didn't already know, I'd be questioning who was the younger one here. You're reasoning is kind of childish, don't you think? I mean, how do you know you do not belong anywhere? Have you been everywhere in order to know that for a fact? Because if you don't, and if you haven't, I wouldn't be saying it, at least in that way," she said, laying her hands in her lap, her fingers laying still.

Merrihop 06-02-2008 01:12 AM

Tobias got up and off of the bus in front of the hospital. It wasn't the first time she had been there, but somehow it seemed bigger now than before. She brushed her hair out of her face and sighed, turning to glance around and wait for her husband to arrive. She still had time before she was late, but she was anxious for him to arrive.

Insane Cricket 06-02-2008 03:28 AM

"We only belong where our home is. Our home is gone, therefore we don't belong anywhere. I don't really expect you to understand it..."

"That's enough. End of discussion," Amani said angrily, climbing out of the car and grabbing his back from the backseat. He slammed the car doors shut and headed for the elevator.

Zaitsu sighed and sat upright, opening the door and getting out. He grabbed his bag from the backseat and offered his hand to Tessan. "Are you coming in with us as well?"

After a small passage of time that he swore should've been longer, Eirose stepped out of the bus in front of the hospital. Ice blue eyes looked upwards, glancing around until they met a warm shade of brown.

Even though the weather was warm enough, he wore a long-sleeved over shirt, as he often did. He much preferred warmer temperatures. "You didn't let me say 'I love you' back," he called in mock-annoyance, though the slight smirk on his face showed that he was only giving her a hard time.
