Your gymnasium meaning is different then ours then. My grade was divided into a couple of different programs, depending mainly upon what they were allowed or chose. In my school whichever program or study path you were in would decided mostly what sort of classes you were in, with the hardest being AP and IB. Although when it came to our foreign language that's where we had more of a choice. I enjoyed my Latin class, however the same could not be said for my French one. XD And I'm my own type of nerd. XD

Nerds are always their own types. You barely have the same kind of... XD
And no, the language packet in our country is not all that full with choice. You are forced to do languages you hate... Untill a certain year when you can pick which you don't want from the same assortiment.
In my case the first 3 years I have... Primary, Dutch (own language) Secondary, English. I enjoy that class because I'm a sadist... ^^; Since the others need to practice weeks for one test and I practice 15 minutes a year. o.0
My third is a shared French and German... Both I don't consider enjoyable. Latin and Greek at fourth place, I enjoy Latin and loathe Greek... =.= Both I can't use so I count them as 4th, else I'd consider Latin my third, since I'm best at that one. :P So 6 languages for school because I am at Gymnasium, 4 for people at HAVO.
And then Japanese, totally my own little language <3 Only a few schools teach Spanish, and you need to take special courses if you so desire learning a different language.

In some sense that's true, although there are those that are rather similar still. XD

My middle school only offered Spanish, but that was again in a different state and size then my high school. If I had taken middle school here I would have had a lot more choices. My high school alone offered French, Japanese, German, Russian, Latin, Greek, Chinese, Dutch, Spanish, English, and one other one that I can't remember. I chose though to take a year of French, which I loathed with a passion, and for the remainder years Latin. I'm not sure if they offer all of those language classes anymore, since it's been a few years since I've been in high school and some were on the verge of getting cut by the time of my graduation. I think though there might be a bit of an exaggeration towards how much you practice however. XD

How much I practice? o.0 Sweety, I barely make it through each year with all those languages. Can't wait untill my 4 year... Then I can drop French, German and Greek.
I wish I could follow Japanese on my school... Or Spanish. I'd kill for those two >.>; I learn them from anime, but learning them seriously but would be way better.
Latin had hopefully been a nice addition to your college, since it's not easy. All those words, exceptions and what not x.x XD

Lol I still doubt that it's only 15 minutes a year, that's my point. XD A Japanese class is indeed a nice one, however unfortunately I wasn't able to join it since my middle school didn't offer it, and the prerequisite for it was in one particular middle school. I've been learning mine mostly through a combination of friends, anime and through a dictionary. XD

Latin was indeed nice to have for college, especially for my science courses. For me it wasn't too hard to learn words as well as the endings, tenses, genders and so on of the words. However I do also know that I'm far from being an expert on them and still have quite a bit to learn. :sweat: But then that's life, a never-ending lesson. :XD

I'm a tech school nerd! We have honors average and special Ed classes. Then we're split into one of 13 shop classes (culinary carpentry hvac graphics...ect.) for 90 days of the school year :)
