You awake with a crash from outside, tiptoeing to go look, you are terrified to see that a swarm of rampaging monsters took over your tiny village, making short work of the flimsy walls guarding it from the usually harmless pushovers that kids your age took pleasure tormenting in the summers. Those are no pushover though, you realize as you see them butchering Ferdinand, the village's blacksmith and the best fighter in the area. Scared for your life, your hide until all goes deathly quiet. All is -too- quiet...

You go outside with cautious steps and a panicked squirrel-y look in your eyes as you explore the ruins of what was once know as you village. Looks like you lucked out but, after a brief headcount of the survivors all whose skills was even more than “mediocre, really...” seems to have either been kidnapped or killed. The leader of the horde of monster apparently the dreaded necromancer Nox, according to the town's most average gossip, Millicent. You are safe for now, but those... bad... terrifying... nearly invincible... fiends must pay! So you decided to get on a journey to do just that!

Gratefully there seems to be something left of the competent townspeople's works as there is scraps of papers in their house describing how to go about making things and killing others. Sweet! Now to learn to do it all and not get killed by giant rats or something...
