What about animals having an affinity for certain elements? Like they would work better with their owner if they had right element and it would be difficult to harm them with that element?

Not quite, I was thinking that like the human's some animals would have an affinity for certain elements, but they wouldn't be able to use the ability on their own, someone would have to give them some of the magic.
I dunno, the idea of a fire horse just popped in my head XD

ah your looking at Elemental animals. Phonix, fire horses, water horses, golems, Air Sylphs, Fauns. undines (little water creatures), and such like that.
